HI Ed:
I am not sure if its my machine, but whenever I look at the "threads" on a post, my browser freezes for at least 3 minutes before returning the page.
Thank you
Daniel

this can be closed -
when I turned off the option "Use HTTP 1.1 through Proxy Connections" the issue dissappeared.
If I turn that option on, my screen keeps freezing for SEVERAL minutes.
Thank you
Daniel

  • Since 3.6.16 upgrade last night, nearly every site freezes! How can I roll back?

Last evening, Firefox upgraded to 3.6.16 automatically. Since that upgrade, nearly every site fails to load completely, and Firefox freezes! News sites, Facebook, every thing I used to have access to! What is going on, and how can I roll back from this garbage upgrade?

Hmmmm, two days and several reboots later, everything now seems to be OK. In the words of Billy T James, "Api puckertif Ino..."...

  • Secure (HTTPS) sites freeze Safari

Safari works fine on all HTTP sites but the blue bar freezes before the S on HTTPS sites, won't Quit, have to Restart or Reset. I tried removing com.apple.safari.plist, Caches/Safari, Library/Safari, Repair Disk Permissions, Resetting Safari and problem persists. I created a new account and Safari works fine. I am using OS 10.4.6 and Safari 2.0.3.

    Hi
    try this -
Drag the file /HD/Library/System.keychain to the desktop ( as I recall, this will make a copy, rather than move the original )
Now trash the original file. ( think you'll need an admin password, but don't worry if you're not asked for one )
    Try Safari once more......
This has worked for a number of users experiencing https problems/freezes after 10.4.6.

  • Web site freezes

I made a nifty new site for my students to access. It has a blog, some photo stacks, a few pics of me, nothing super fancy.
The first day they needed to use it, they said it loaded very slowly and a fair number said it froze their computers.
    Ideas?
    thanks,
    jd

    Well, my home address is:
    web.mac.com/mrmathman
And then from there you click on RCHS to:
    http://web.mac.com/mrmathman/MrMathMan/RCHS_stats.html
I'm sure they're connecting in all varieties of manners from home. I suppose it is the second address listed above that they are freezing on.

  • FF 14.0.1, Multiple issues, new tab button broken, sites freeze, unstable, more..

I can't load the some random pages, the new tab button next to the farthest right tab clicks but does not open a new tab... <ctrl>+T does work still.
Pages that load in other browsers time out or otherwise fail to load since the 14.0.1 update.
    General instability of Firefox.
sometimes the browser is slow to load, even though there is no problem with the connection or site. (verified by quickly opening opera or chrome, loading the same page in those browsers while FF is still trying)
This is the saddest release of Firefox ever.
Please fix my browser of choice.
Opera looks better every day, as Firefox keeps getting worse.
I remember not to long ago when a running instance of Firefox was ~28MB of RAM, and even a slow leak would not top 100MB in a day's browsing....
Now it starts with several hundred MB's before the home page is even loaded...
    Sloppy.
Programmers thought they were slick and convinced Mozilla Foundation a bigger footprint would be more stable... look what's happened... more code to sift to even find problems..
I still need IETab v2 just to be able to use all sites I want.... hasn't Firefox got enough intelligence to figure certain code is used and switch to a different rendering technique?
At least we have IETab v2 when we need it.... it would be nice to not need an addon to make up for a lack of functionality in FF. (Yes, I know Microsoft uses non-standard HTML... and I also know after years of that same code being used that Firefox COULD see that and accept it as something that must just be accepted)
Those pages may not be in compliance with W3C standards, but who wants to live under a dictator anyway... deal with it.
Firefox keeps getting bigger and less desirable, with less reliability... Trim the fat... I'd take stability and reasonable functionality any day. I sorely miss FF 3.X...

    Hi,
Please try the [https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/reset-firefox-easily-fix-most-problems Reset Firefox] feature via '''Help''' ('''Alt''' + '''H''') > '''Troubleshooting Information'''. Hopefully most of the issues will be solved.
(To revert to the previous profile you were using, close the new profile (i.e. exit Firefox), start Firefox and choose the '''Default User''' profile. While the [https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/profile-manager-create-and-remove-firefox-profiles Profile Manager] is open, you can also delete the newly reset profile (the one containing random numbers), or the former profile, as the case may be). If the reset is okay, it would be a good idea to delete the old profile as otherwise it would be left intact with the previous data until deleted.

  • Meetup site freezes computer

Are you familiar with this site:  Meetup: find your people - Meetup
I have contacted their adminstrators, however they want me to send them a snapshot.  Since the keyboard does not work when problem happens this is not possible.  I thought perhaps someone here has run into the problem.
It seems to be related to accessing the full calendar feature.  The picture on screen will break up and then nothing works.  I have to completely power off the computer.

From the Safari menu bar, select
Safari ▹ Preferences... ▹ Privacy ▹ Remove All Website Data
    and confirm. Test.

  • Going to Facebook & Apple Support sites via Top Sites Freezes Safari

Over & over, if I try to access FB or Apple's Discussion page, I get the swirling ball of doom, it remains spinning until I close & reboot Safari. What could be causing this totally inconvenient response from what should be a convenient feature? Thanks...

    Saxman --
I understand from another thread that this is ONLY when
using Top Sites to access them. Using a URL or other access,
you have no problems. Is that correct?

  • Web site freeze (some links doesnt work)

www.irc-galleria.net and choose some user and try to go in albums and so on.
mouse picture wont always change and when it change mostly time when u click nothing happens.

    Hi,
Please try a '''Ctrl''' + '''F5''' refresh. You may also have to [https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/remove-recent-browsing-search-and-download-history?redirectlocale=en-US&redirectslug=Clear+Recent+History#w_how-do-i-remove-a-single-website-from-my-history Forget About This Site].
If the problem persists, you can reset Firefox and start afresh.
To save a listing of the add-ons, important modified preferences/settings etc. to quickly replicate the previous profile, please '''Copy all to clipboard''' (on the left of the reset button), and paste it into Office Excel, or OpenOffice/LibreOffice Calc, or notepad. However, it would be a good idea to check for the existence of the issue immediately after the reset.
The Reset Firefox feature can fix many issues by restoring Firefox to its factory default state while saving your essential information.
Note: ''This will cause you to lose any Extensions, Open websites, and some Preferences.''
To Reset Firefox do the following:
#Go to Firefox > Help > Troubleshooting Information.
    #Click the "Reset Firefox" button.
#Firefox will close and reset. After Firefox is done, it will show a window with the information that is imported. Click Finish.
#Firefox will open with all factory defaults applied.
Further information can be found in the [[Reset Firefox – easily fix most problems]] article.

  • Downloading a PDF from any site freezes before finishing and never returns.

On many websites I have trouble downloading PDFs. It gets about 3/4 through then hangs and does not finish. Internet Explorer, my backup, has no problem. It may be my machine or our network but I don't know how.

If you backup is bootable, boot into it, and see if the issue persists. As for the slowness, see:

  • Recent Safari problems - YouTube crashing (Flash?), Gmail not loading, freezing, etc.

Two days after the new retina MBP was released, my Safari (latest version, running on the latest MBP with Lion) started acting up.
Crashing when trying to watch/load/pause a YouTube video — it simply cannot do it. I have an SSD drive, mind you...
Gmail often doesn't load, but stalls when the loading bar is 95% done.
Websites often freeze when I am browsing, scrolling, and so on.
Very frustrating! I have been forced to use Chrome for watching YouTube videos instead.

For YouTube. Try troubleshooting the Flash plugin which is required for most YouTub content.
    Quit Safari.
Open System Preferences > Flash Player then select the Storage tab. Click: Delete All
Now uninstall the Flash plugin then reinstall new >  Troubleshoot Flash Player | Mac OS
Very important to uninstall the currently installed Flash plugin first.
Relaunch Safari From your Safari menu bar click Safari > Empty Cache
    Now try a video.
BTW... if you have the ClickToFlash extension installed, that can prevent Flash based video from streaming. It can also be installed as a plugin in /Library/Internet-Plug-Ins.
And check to see if Safari is running in 32 bit mode. Right or control click the Safari icon in your Applications folder then click Get Info. If the box next to:  Open in 32 bit mode  is selected, deselect, quit then relaunch Safari.
As for Gmail. From your Safari menu bar to of your screen click Safari > Preferences then select the Privacy tab. Click:  Remove All Website Data. Quit then relaunch Safari. Try accessing Gmail.
For sites freezing, try deleting the cache associated with Safari. Open the Finder. From the Finder menu bar click Go > Go to Folder
Type this exactly as you see it here:   ~/Library/Caches/com.apple.Safari/Cache.db
    Click Go
Move the Cache.db file to the Trash. Test Safari.

  • Re: Problem using APEX Site

I seem to have problems using my hosted APEX site since installing a new installment anti viral software on my computer . I have to repeatly
push the buttons. Often the site freezes up. Also the response time is slow. I was however to access the site from another computer Could it be that a virus has entered into my computer causing the problem, or is a problem with the site itself?
    Yours Michael Stone

    Hello Michael,
If you can access your site from another computer (with no or other anti-virus software) without any problems, your site seems fine.
Maybe you can configure your new software not to check certain sites (like your APEX site).

  • Time machine backup freezing up

I had my time capsule full last month so my two computers kept getting an error when trying to do its scheduled backup. I went on and deleted one of my backup images to make enough room for one computer to use the hard drive. Then for computer one I plugged in a second hard hard and it backed up with no problem.
Computer two is still set to backup wirelessly to the time capsule but every time I click the option to "backup now" is sits/freezes in the beginning phase "Making backup disk available". Looking at the available space I have : 313.92 gigs of 497.96 gigs free. At this point I have left the computer on for hours, also there is no canceling this process, I can't even do a hard quit; I have to hold the power button to turn off computer.

Try a "full reset" of Time Machine, per #A4 in [Using Time Machine with an Airport Extreme Air Disk|http://web.me.com/pondini/Time_Machine/Airport.html] (or use the link in *User Tips* at the top of the +Time Machine+ forum).

  • Printing to HP PSC1300 Series shared by Windows XP

I have configured my macbook to print to a HP 1300 PSC printer on a Windows network. I have downloaded all the drivers and they appear in my printer list - and I have configered to print to the printer (a HP PSC 1355) on the network. When I print my macbook is happy and the print job arrives in the PC (running XP) queue fine - then it sits - freezing the Windows print queue.
The printer makes a few noizes but then nothing !! I can print to the printer on the USB - but not on the network.
Help !! I love my new MAC and want to beleive it is a Windows problem - but maybe not.

It's me again. I have found after a bit of experimentation that the HP 1100 Series driver works fine with this printer. All I can assume at this stage is that it's a problem with the driver ...
    Cheers,
