Site name won't index on google

Hi,
My website was recently verified, and a sitemap was submitted. It is now indexed on google, however, only the page names are indexed on google, not the name of the site that was I put into inspector in the site name tab. When I verified the site, I verified it under
http://web.mac.com/maplesbydesign/iWeb/
Maybe instead, I should have verified the entire url of the first page
http://web.mac.com/maplesbydesign/iWeb/Maples%20By%20Design-%20Japanese%20Maple% 20Nursery%20and%20Arboretum/Welcome.html
Not really sure.
So I guess, how do I index the name of the site, not just the pages?
Thank You.

  • Oracle APEX site unable to be crawled by Google crawlers / SEO?

    Hi,
Has anyone been able to get their APEX site (static or dynamic) indexed in Google?
Obviously the session_id in the URL is a problem, but setting this to 0 and providing a site map should suffice. However lynx still has a problem with my static site - error "Alert!: Unsupported URL scheme!", I'm trying to find what APEX throws out that causes this and whether the same is a barrier to Google bots indexing APEX sites?
    Some niggling observations:
    - I do a lot of searching on Oracle related content and very seldom do I get back hits on asktom.oracle.com ... I'd expect more.
    - Google "site:www.shellprompt.net services" and the Services page does not get returned...
    http://www.shellprompt.net/pls/apex/f?p=112:4
I'd expect that shellprompt would want that page indexed!!

  • Change site name in google

    Hello,
I have published my site trough iweb on my mobile me account. When I look up my site on google it shows "about". How can I change my sites name?

Is the first page of your site named About? If so change the page title to something else in iWeb and republish.
Or, use the free iWeb SEO Tool to give that page a new title that you would want to show up in the google search.
It can access the site on your iDisk, add the title tag to the About page and save it. SEO remember the tags it has assigned to each page of your site so it can be easily reapplied with just one click of the button after any edits and republications are made.

  • Site name on Google

When my site comes up in a Google search, it's name is "Home" rather than the site name. Same is true on the Safari "Window" list once the site is up. How do I correct?

    Hi there,
names/titles of pages are changed in iWeb itself, go to the page and see where "Home" is written in the content of the page (in which textfield). Then type the new name you'd like the page to have. Publish. Visit your site on the net or in folder to see if it changed.
Google will not take up the new name instantly... It really takes quite a long time sometimes until google updates it's entries.

  • I have problems to place my site on google. It still says business-catalys and not the site name.

I have problems to place my site on google. It still says business-catalys and not the site name. What do I need to do?

    What is your site address?

  • Why my iweb website is no longer getting indexed by google?

I have had my website for 2 years and it was showing up on google with no problems. Now my site is not showing up on google and I dont know why.
I have verified the site, I have resubmitted the URL. I have requested reconsideration, but I just need to know why my site that stop showing up on google.
.Google mention that .mac blocks googlebots from indexing the site. What should I do to fix this probelm. (url:www.noticemagazine.com)

    In order for search engines to find your site you need to have text content. They don't know what your site is about if there is no text content on it. I have went through your site and you should do the following;
    1) Get ride of your "click here to enter site" page (the Welcome_.html page)
Never EVER use your default page in this way. This is called a splash page and provides no value to your visitors since they need an additional click to find your page and it provides no indication to search engines about what your site is all about. Your default page is the most important page on your site, use it to link to the most important pages on your website and to have your important keywords.
    2) Your title tags NEED to have your most important keywords
Your title tags (what you see at the top of your browser) need to have your most important keywords . They should be 60-120 characters long, unique for every single page and describe what your page is all about. This is one of the most important things for search engines. Not only do they use this to learn about your website content but its also what users will see when your site is listed in Google's result. Do you think someone will click a link called 'Welcome' when they do a search in Google, or "Notice Magazine: Lifestyle and Fashion Advice" (for example).
    3) You need more text content
All of your pages are mostly images, you need more content that search engines can properly index. Imagine you were searching for text in a Word Document and it was just an image, you wouldn't find anything. This is basically what Google does too. Most of your text has been converted to images because you use non standard fonts in iWeb. In iWeb, open the fonts palette, and select 'Web'. Stick to those fonts.
    4) Link to other pages on your site using your keywords
You need to link between your pages on your site using keywords you want to be found with. Anchor text (the text you click to follow a link), is used by Google to rank your website. Tip: Do a search for click here in Google, look at the top result and notice that click here is not found anywhere on that page. Its because so many people link to that first result using the term 'click here'. (Its Adobe Reader's page for those that do not want to search).
    5) Get a real domain name AND real hosting
MobileMe is NOT meant for commercial sites and should never be used for it. A real host with a real domain name (that includes your keywords) you will outrank the same website hosted in MobileMe (even with domain forwarding. Any kind of domain forwarding is not ideal for search engines because of how redirects are handled).
    6) Create and submit an XML Sitemap file
Not only will this help with you rankings, Google/Yahoo/Bing provide a Webmaster Tools account that will provide feedback on why your site may not be in Google.
    7) Speed up your website
You are using too many high quality images on your site which is making it extremely slow. Reduce the quality of your images and optimize your HTML/CSS/Javascript code so it loads faster. Not only does this provide a bad user experience for your visitors but Google will not index a slow loading page as much as a faster loading page. Also, Google announced just a few days ago that the speed of a website's load time WILL become an important ranking factor in the VERY NEAR future.
Having a real web host will help with the speed issue.
    8) Redo your navigation bar using text and include your keywords in each link. iWeb's javascript navigation bar does not allow search engines to easily find all your pages on your site.
    9) Get links from third party websites. Post on forums, use twitter, facebook, blogs and other social networking sites. Links from other websites are a very important factor for how well your website ranks.

  • How do I remove old web site when publishing new site with same URL in iweb? Hit replace when publishing new iweb site (so we could have control over changes) but new site name is attached to old via a / after our www address we want to keep.

I hit the replace when publishing the new iweb site (so we could have control over changes - last one was not an apple based site) but new site name is attached to old via a forward slash and underscore after our www address. Makes it very messy with a very long web address.  Original address now followed by iweb site name followed by name of first page? Went for iweb as not that computer literate - all going so well?! Cheers for help in anticipation. Have to get off to work now but be great end to week if we could be sorted tonight. Rupes

Well yes of course, if you try and publish through iWeb there won't be an option to publish without your site folder which is exactly why I told you to download Cyberduck and use Cyberduck to upload your site to your server having published your site from iWeb to a local folder.  That is what you need to do if you don't want your site name to be included in yoru url.
It would have been easier also if you had used Cyberduck initially to connect to your server and delete your old site yourself - at least that way you would have deleted the correct files rather than relying on your hosting service to do it and doing it incorrectly.
Download Cyberduck and then select the publish to a local folder option from iWeb and then use Cyberduck to upload your site to your server, but rather than uploading the whole site folder and separate index file, upload ONLY the contents of your site folder and then your url will be http://www.domain.com/page_name.html.
    It really isn't rocket science!

  • Where can I download firefox 3.6,firefox 4 is terrible ? I used to be able to put a key word in the address bar and go straight to the site now I get a stupid google search. I really hate firefox 4 if I cant go back i will use another browser .

Its all the little things I don't like about firefox 4 mainly the layout and the search.I thought my browser would get an upgrade, this is complete downgrade ,I never went with firefox for speed .I went with firefox because i hate toolbars and I loved the fact I could put tpb only in the address bar and go straight to the pirate bay or ww.bbc.co .uk by typing bbc

The change between Firefox 3.6.* and Firefox 4 is how location bar search works. In Firefox 3.6 it uses Google "Browse by name" search. With the browse by name search, it performs a Google search and if there is a clear match it will take you to the site, otherwise it shows the Google search result. With Firefox 4 it just performs a Google search if you type something which is not recognised as a URL.
To get the Firefox 3.6 behaviour on Firefox 4 you need to change a hidden preference.
    # Type '''about:config''' into the location bar and press enter
    # Accept the warning message that appears, you will be taken to a list of preferences
    # Locate the preference '''keyword.URL''', double-click on it and change its value to the link shown below
    [http://www.google.com/search?ie=UTF-8&oe=UTF-8&sourceid=navclient&gfns=1&q= http://www.google.com/search?ie=UTF-8&oe=UTF-8&sourceid=navclient&gfns=1&q=]
If you prefer, you can also do this by installing the Browse by Name extension - https://addons.mozilla.org/firefox/addon/browse-by-name
Firefox is highly customizable and you may be able to customize it to meet your needs.
If you do not like the new UI, you can make Firefox 4 look and behave more like Firefox 3.6, for details see http://www.computertechtips.net/64/make-firefox-4-look-like-ff-3-6

  • Change site name

i've published my iWeb site to a folder on my desktop.
    Not to the web yet.
Because for some strange reason, each time i publish (save) my site to
a folder, the folder name always has an underscore at the end.
I did NOT put an underscore at the end of my site name.
On the list inside iWeb, the Site name at the very top does NOT have an underscore at the end.
And my domain name does not has an underscore at the end either.
So I don't know where the underscore at the end of my site name comes from
after I've published to a folder.
It's like this: Before I publish, in iWeb it's www.xxxyyyzzz.com
After I publish to a folder, the folder name is www.xxxyyyzzz_.com
When open the pages in the folder to test how it would look on the web, it has the underscore at the end of the name in the web address bar too. This is weird, I can't figure it out.
I don't know how to fix this except to duplicate the site in iWeb (which does not have an underscore), and publish that one. Maybe it won't have an underscore after published to a folder.
How do i do this without screwing things up.
So, how can I just get rid of that mysterious underscore and I guess change the
name of my site so that it doesn't have an underscore at the end?
Like I said, i haven't published to the web yet, just to a folder in my desktop.
    thanks!

sorry, my bad ... i guess i didn't explain it right.
when i said my domain name, I meant the actual name of my website,
when it's on the web. I thought that's called the domain name.
I use this same name, without an underscore, for my site in iWeb, and
i also name the folder that I publish it to the same name.
For example, let's say the name of my actual registered website is www.yahoo.com
so, in iWeb, the Site name on top of the list I've named "yahoo"
And the folder on my desktop that I publish to is also named "yahoo"
But for some reason, when I publish my "yahoo" site to my "yahoo" folder,
the folder name changes to "yahoo_"
I guess what i need to know is it safe to rename the folder that I publish to?
Say, it now has an under score. Is it safe to rename it without the underscore,
or will that screw up anything?

  • Yahoo Answers search results won't connect from Google search

When I do a Google search that has a result from Yahoo Answers, if I click the link in Firefox I can't connect to it, but I can from Chrome, IE, Safari, etc... For example I did a Google search for "yahoo answers" so that the general home page was the top result. When I click the link or open it in a new tab, the tab/site name change to the redirect string but the site's contents never load. This is the string that displays in the address bar:
    http://www.google.com/url?sa=t&rct=j&q=yahoo%20answers&source=web&cd=1&sqi=2&ved=0CGMQFjAA&url=http%3A%2F%2Fanswers.yahoo.com%2F&ei=QMsAUKG9AqfE2gXch-2NCw&usg=AFQjCNFto79smHDfZ7VbbGSA4-PlJwF1EA&cad=rja
I can copy this string into any other browser and Yahoo Answers open, but it doesn't in Firefox. I can also go to answers.yahoo.com directly through the address bar and the site opens correctly. What is wrong with Firefox?

I was able to determine that the Disconnect plugin was interfering with my ability to connect to the search results from a Google search. I'll contact the creator and see if they are aware of this issue.

  • What's the error?  Longtime site not being picked up by Google

This site has been up for a year and is not being picked up by Google. What is the problem?
    Any suggestions much appreciated.
    www.elspethcameron.com

+(sorry for my english, it usually is better than that I think/hope)+
    Ok... Let's see...
www.elspethcameron.ca is just a forwarding url with cloaking (masking, masking the real url) enabled so it's not dynamic it doesn't change when visiting different pages. It is listed in google
    http://www.google.ch/search?hl=en&q=site%3Awww.elspethcameron.ca&btnG=Search&met a=
but there is no content under this url because it is just forwarding visitors to the real website, just like a link would do that.
The real website is, at least partially, on google with its content as you can see here
    http://www.google.ch/search?hl=en&q=site%3Aweb.mac.com%2Felspethcameron%2F&btnG= Search&meta=
The other parts of the website are not indexed by google. I think that is because google is not able to crawl the nav bar because it is javascript rendering. You could make a second nav bar by your own and put it on the bottom of the page. Simply add a text field and put normal links in it to the other websites. Google will then follow them next time indexing your page.
In addition to that you should watch the thread I posted before. Note that by making your sitemap you don't use www.elspethcameron.ca but the real url.

    Cédric

  • IWeb Publish to FTP: Double Site Name

My attempt to mount an iWeb site publishing via FTP to my commercial host server on my acquired domain name josephscriven.org works well EXCEPT when it is up on the Internet a redundant duplication creeps into the URL. After clicking on or entering josephscriven.org the website comes up beautifully but the URL is listed as http://josephscriven.org/Home/Home.html.
Changing the "Home" to anything else does not help as then the new name is simply duplicated.
    Any thoughts out there?
    Thanks

I ran into that as well. Even worse, the redirect that iWeb set up to send site visitors to the subdomain that it stored the actual site files in didn't work in some browsers, including Microsoft Internet Explorer, which accounts for roughly 80% of site traffic on most of my sites.
I just bought a Mac, so I set up a simple test site, just to help me get the feel of it. If you have access to your site via FTP. I had to use my PC for this, since I am thus far unfamiliar with any of the FTP programs available for a Mac, but I'm sure they will work well enough once I figure them out.
Anyhow, if you access your site through FTP, you can move your site files and folders down one level, back to the command line for your domain, and everything should work fine, without the silly redirect.
The only glitch I had in this is that the Index.html file that was used for the redirect that iWeb set up capitalized the first letter in the file name, whereas the index.html file used in the site itself was not capitalized. When I first did that, I would get a 404 upon trying to navigate back to the index (home) page of the site using the navigation menu. Changing the site index.html file to Index.html fixed that problem, as you can see in http://www.pinegrovealpacas.net/.

  • Dreamweaver CS4 - Existing Site Name Changed in Manage Sites

Please help me! I have an existing site name from Manage Sites become slightly different site name from original.
For example, existing site name was fashionstars, now become ftp://fashionstars, with ftp:// in it. ( It happen when I did some try and error approach to do certain task, or press the wrong buttons etc) Is there any possibility to change back to original name fashionstars and how to do it? Otherwise I won't be able to upload files to remote site because of different site name appeared in Manage Sites.
Should I remove the modified site name ftp://fashionstars and recreate a new site name fashionstars and copy all exiting files from local site folder to new fashionstars?
    Regards,
    SSYYDD

Additional information, I use MacBook Pro to run Dreamweaver CS4.  The existing site has 150 MB file size, hundreds of files, so to recreate new site name, it has to start to create all manually, will take a long time. Is there any other ways I can recreate site fashionstars without to start all over again?
I am very worry about this, it may not be able to fix it. My website is stuck, won't be able to upload files any more.
Another problem is that I lost the SITE DEFINITIONS for fashionstars or htp://fashionstars . When I go to Manage Sites to edit site of ftp://fashionstars, it goes to CONFIGURE SERVER, not the SITE DEFINITIONS for fashionstars or ftp://fashionstars. Please help me.
( note  that I use the name fashionstars as an example only, not my real site name)
    Thank you.

Tried to change "Welcome" so when you type in webpage "millerstalemusic.com" and it opens main search page, you see the site, but it says "Welcome" the search page.  I want it to have site name, valid info, instead of simply "Welcome."
Site can not be found once I change "Welcome" to another name...
Changed name from "Welcome" to another name.  Google wants "Welcome" or can't find my site.  I do not want "Welcome" to be the first thing seen on search page when searching with my website name for my site.  Why can't Google find me?  Changed name back, and worked, but #@!*?!!,
What to do?  Yes, I "Double Clicked" and all that, but internet is insisting "Welcome" remains...
How does Google recognize my site?  I was told it can take 2 months or longer for Google to discover I don't want to have
    "Welcome" as my main Keyword!
    Help!

    hi,
I saw your website the page is named just welcome and it appears as welcome on google search.
The title of your webpage just needs to be changed and nothing else.A Title of your web page is what appears on google findings and it is the title that appears on the top most bar of browser window. On the top most bar of browser is written apple - support. and this is what will appear on google findings. 'Apple - support'
If you know HTML, just change the title.
I dont know but I think Google takes about less than 2 days to find your site thruugh its robots maybe even faster. My site appeared as i checked it - after two days and i didnt go and list it in addyoururl.
