Site Not Recognizing Player

This is most likely a run of the mill question. I have scanned through the other posts, but what is there doesn't seem to apply. Maybe I just missed it.  Anyway, I downloaded Flash Player (and Mcafee Security Scan) from the Adobe site. It said it was a sucessful download. Yet, the site I go to that requires it says it's not there. So,  I down loaded again and the same thing.
In looking in my control panel, it shows Flash Player Active X, but no size applied. It's my understanding that this means it's there. There is nothing in any of the systems folders or programs folders regarding Flash Player. So, is it there? The McAfee is there and runs fine. Shouldn't I be able to just open Flash player like I would Adobe reader or anything else? There are no shortcuts or anything on my desktop!
I am using Windows XP Professional and Internet Explorer. I even tried restarting the computer after the second download.

Hi G, Good job, you can do that with that file as from what I have seen it installs the latest version. It doesn't work all of the time, but you had the correct files other than the one you were able to remove.
I do want to caution you on McAfee. After reading this I don't think you would be wise in keeping this on your system.
You really don't need it and it will conflict with Norton, as they will be fighting over control, not a good idea.

The rule on Security is one Anti-Virus and one Firewall. Norton most likely have already disabled the Windows Firewall and installed their own, so you are ok on that.
That was a good idea going back to the Flash folder. Whenever I am updating Flash Player, I download the Uninstaller and the Installer to my Desktop, & disconnect from the Internet. Then I disable my Anti-Virus and disable any apps in the sys tray that use Flash. After I run the Uninstaller, I Reboot, & check my Flash folder to make sure there are no files at all, then I run the Installer and Reboot. Then I check all of my files to make sure all are there, check to make sure the Shockwave Flash Object is correct and enabled. Then reenable whatever I disabled and connect back to the Internet. I have never had a problem, and always have a clean Uninstall and a clean Install.
You can keep these instructions for the next update of Flash Player:-)

    This is very little information to go on but this sounds like your domain has expired. Go to where you purchased your domain and check that it has not expired. Either that and your using your email setup in business catalyst to go into your site (development url - YOURSITE.businesscatalyst.com/admin) and check your domain is still set up correctly.

    I recently transfered one of my websites to a different external hard drive from the one it was on (it has since been deleatd from the old drive.  I have the .ste file but now when I open DW and try to load the site, there is no content.  All my files are there but the icon's for them now look like an html list rather than a DW icon - like it's not "authenticated" or something.  It seems like this should be an easy fix and I hope it is...
    Can anyone guide me on this?  Please...

    The icons are not an issue. All of mine have Firefox icons
    but open in DW. I open them from DW just fine, but to open them in DW from the folder I DO have to right click and select DW to open with. Still not an issue.
    The .ste file was likely made when everything was still on the first drive, and it tells DW to look for the root folder there. It's probably useless at this point.
    If you go to Sites and Manage Sites. You can edit the location of the root folder to the new drive and your files should show in the DW library.

    trying to help my son set up Linksys WRT546. Wireless works fine if Security Mode is Disable, but when I set to WEP and enter a password, generate and save, and then try to sign on the network, I keep getting invalid password. I can then switch security mode back to Disable and name appears w/o password protection, but at least works. 
    Why isn't the password I am entering on the Wireless Security site, not recognized?

    Hi,
    If you are gonna use WEP, just type anything in the PASSPHRASE field and then copy the KEY 1, because that will serve as your PASSWORD. If you use 64-bit WEP, it will generate a 10-character password as you can see on Key 1-4. But, if you want to use your own password and not let the router generate one for you, please select WPA instead. Please refer to the link below.

    prior to this difficulty, I had installed windows media player to access video clips embedded on news web sites etc, and everything worked fine, video usually streamed right into the media player, not saving a file to the desktop, but merely playing in a window....
    to solve the software install problem above, I returned to the apple store & they suggested and helped me accomplish an archive & re-install of the OS, and afterwards, the problem software installed properly...
    since the archive & re-install of OS 10.4.3, my windows media player is not recognized as a valid plug-in by safari.
    when I click on a video link (embedded), a seperate window appears that describes my need to install windows media player 9 for mac (and it's already in my app's folder), when I download the file to attempt re-installing media player, stuffit doesn't seem to un zip the file after double clicking on it, no app file appears on the desktop to mount in the apps dierctory?
    if the video link is not embedded, I can cntrl-click and save the file to the desktop and it will play normally, but if the file is embedded I have no means to see the news clip etc?
    also, for those video files that are not embedded, instead of playing directly via streaming, when a link is clicked, the file downloads to the desktop before playing?
    these aren't huge problems (well when trying to view an embedded news clip it is!) but any help in trying to return to normal behaviour would help!

    thanks for the link, but I wa really looking into making the win media player function as it had before I had to archive & re-load OS 10.4.3
    I use the player infrequently, but it drives me crazy when I'm looking @ a news page w/an embedded video and can't merely click it's link & see the clip!
    any thoughts on why I can't get the win media player sitx file to un-stuff and possibly re-install win media player to allow safari to recognize it as a valid plug-in?

  • Can't download flash player - 'Disk image not recognized'

    2,4 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo
    I'm trying to download and install the lastest adobe flash player but having a little problem. It downloads without any problem but when I come to double click it it comes up with the following warning/error message.
    The following disk images couldn't be opened. Reason - Not Recognized
    I have no idea why this has suddenly come up.
    I've complete uninstalled Adobe flash player and tried to reinstall it but it still hasn't worked.
    I've also tried to open the 'install_flash_player_osx.dmg' file in Disk Utility but it says its 'Unable to attach'. One thing I have noticed is that the Disk write status is - Not mounted, read only
    I'm not sure what this means. If someone could help me out I would appricate it very much.

    Not certain what other issue may be the cause of the symptom(s) you've stated above, but there is a link to try & get an Adobe flash player plugin for Snow Leopard 10.6.8 through this page. Also note the comments by users there who relate experience, and an apparent link to a recent beta version(?)

    While other system maintenance may need to be done for the computer to see any update correctly, there also is a chance the file may not be the proper one. Several exist at the Adobe site, some are not compatible.

  • Ipod Touch 3rd Gen - not recognized by computer or itunes.  Shows cable pointing to itunes logo.  Can't reset it.  Doesn't work at all.  Have tried all the supposed fixes on the apple site with no luck.  It suggested asking other users !

    I have a 3rd Generation ipod touch that is not recognized by itunes or my computer.  My itunes works with other apple devices I own.  I cannot reset the ipod touch and can never get to the screen where it is supposed to show a red battery to turn it off.  I can't reset it.  Have tried to use the suggestions on the apple site to no avail.  Any suggestions ?

    From my experience, the only way you're gonna get a PC afflicted with this disease to work with a 5th gen nano is to roll back to an earlier version of iTunes.  Those affected have been exhausted by this ongoing issue.  To update or not to update?  And I always say never update unless you have to, and turn off all that auto update mess!
    I have two core2duo lappies running 32b vista.  My workflow dictates 32b fyi.  One is acer aspire running itunes v 11.1 (.0.126),  5th gen nano was originally formatted and works just fine on this machine to this day.  My other is the bigger badder lenovo thinkpad and the 5th gen will NOT mount using any version of itunes past 11.0 (.1.12)  Windows mounts it just fine.  itunes is not having it.  no shirt no shoes no service.
    I have both a 4th and 5th gen nano.  The 4th gen works great on both machines, I even successfully tested it with the latest version (11.1.5) before subsequent deletion on the thinkpad!  Weird huh?  I think my next experiment might be to restore my 5th gen w/ a Mac and theeeeen plug it into PC itunez.
    I'm at a loss on the thinkpad.  Scanned for intruders.  Cut the Lenovo bloat.  Executed system and reg maintenance.  Took down msconfig to a safe mode + itunes level to attempt to resolve possible sw conflicts but to no avail.  NO NO NO.  Every single dang port, every time on the thinkpad.  Has me feeling like others might get the same treatment by the next itunes update.  :|
    So in summary for me:
    5th gen nano and thinkpad are a NoGo on 11.1^  last working version for me = 11.0.1
    5th gen nano is working on an acer aspire 11.1.0  but no way in the world am I updating
    4th gen nano is kicking 5th gen nano's @zz so what would make me want to buy a new ipod?

    Perhaps I owe you an apology.   Having re-read that downloading from HP was unsuccessful I feel uncomfortable.  Can I suggest you update your 10.6 system (as noted in your profile) to 10.6.8 (if it is not already there) by using the
    Mac OS X 10.6.8 Update Combo v1.1 combo update plus any software updates that then apply.  

  • 5530 music player not recognizing new songs

    hi all,
    new problem for me. the nokia music player is not recognizing new music. it just files them under unknown. the files are properly tagged. the only way to get it to recognize the files is to format the sd card and put the music back on the card.
    also after deleting music, the player still has the files in its unknown folder, even after updating the music library.
    very frustrating as i use the phone everyday as my main music player. this problem has only turned up in the past couple of weeks, with me changing nothing else on the phone.
    any advise?

    Hi, just try up this found somewhere-
    You can do this to rebuild the library as it is corrupted.
    Restart your device and then refresh your library. If this doesn't help then;
    Connect the phone to your pc/lappy and put in 'Data transfer' mode.
    To delete the library files:
    - Ensure you can see hidden files in Windows Explorer:
    Windows Explorer .. Tools .. Folder Options .. View
    Select "Show hidden files and folders"
    - Connect the phone to your PC using the USB cable in "Data transfer" mode
    - Find and rename (or delete if you're really brave) files with names like:
    E:\private\101FFC31\mpxv1.mpd
    E:\private\101FFC31\pcv5.mpd
    E:\private\101ffca9\harvesterdb.dat
    (assuming the phone's mass memory / card has been connected as E)
    Note that the folder names may be different and the files may have prefixes - eg: mpxv1.mpd could be called abcmpxv1.mpd.  Basically, you need to search under the Private folder for any files that look similar.
    Now just refresh the Music Player library and the job is done.
    This will take longer than normal as it's a complete refresh, but it should now work.

    I just did the auto update so that Firefox 17.0 was installed. Anyway, for whatever reason, Youtube only seems to notice that my Adobe Flash Player add-on exists when it wants to. At the moment, it's not recognizing it, so I can't play videos. I've had to close out my current sessions of Firefox to get it to recognize the Flash Player, and then even then it's a crap shoot. What is going on? How can I fix this? Flash is one of the most basic programs needed in an internet browser, these days.

  • My Toshiba Satellite p775-s7320 not recognizing the CD/DVD player (ODD)

    Hello all,
    I am having the problem as listed in the title in that my toshiba satellite p775-s7320 is not recognizing the built-in CD/DVD player anymore. I have the latest Bios upgrade from Toshiba. The last time this worked was earlier this year during the summer. Nothing abnormal or apparent has happened to the laptop to change anything internally, except the Bios upgrades.
    Interestingly enough, there is power to the CD/DVD mechanism and the open/close features work perfectly, but the Bios can't "see" the ODD. So because the Bios doesn't see it as being attached, and the System doesn't "see" because the Bios doesn't, it doesn't matter that the Open/Close function works, because putting a good CD in with data on it is of no value.
    I was considering trying to revert the Bios to an earlier one, but simply trying to load the older Bios through the Windows Bios software is a No-Go because the software won't allow me to go to an earlier Bios flash.
    I'm at the end of the line with common options, other than trying to switch out the Cd/DVD for a brand new one. Something I don't want to do if I can avoid it, but I would as a last resort. As well, loading a fresh image is out of the question as I have too much accumulated software on my harddrive and don't really think the problems stims from that.
    Otherwise, any other solutions may be worthwhile to try. I would really like to flash the Bios to an earlier time when the machine worked well, but I dont know how.
    Thanks for taking a look. BTW, I have removed and replaced the current CD/DVD several times with no change in recognition by the Bios.

    Try the Microsoft fix-it : http://support.microsoft.com/mats/cd_dvd_drive_problems It is used to fix problems with CD or DVD drives. (Note This Fix it solution does not support Windows 8.1.)

  • DOD access card certificates not recognized when trying to access web sites with a card reader while older version of firefox did.

    In the past I have been able to access web sites that require certificates pulled from a common access card inserted into a card reader attached to my Mac. Since I have updated to the newer version of Firefox, the sites that I am trying to gain entry to are not recognizing either the card, card reader or those certificates. If I use Safari or my work computer, the sites recognize my card and certificates and I am grated entry. I would use Safari but I like the format of Firefox for the specific tasks that require the access card. Just looking for a solution. Firefox does open other sites just fine. It's just the ones that require the card, reader and certificates.

    My OS is windows 7 Ultimate. There no Service packs listed Microsoft don't have one for it yet. My brower is Internet explorer 8 version: 8.0.7600.16385. My firewall is not causeing problems and the popup blocker didn't even activate.

  • Windows Media Player 11 - Zen Vision:M Not Recognized Anym

    I've installed WMP, which is told to be especially very well with Vision:M, and nothing recognizes my Vision:M now.
    It's shown up as a Portable Device (with a new icon), with it's Name "Creative Zen Vision:M", I connect, it asks me what to do. Windows Media Player, Vision:M Explorer or firmware updater I've just downloaded doesn't see the player connected. Each time I connect, it appears to be something different on My Computer. Sometimes the device's name with ZVM icon, sometimes Zen Vision:M with portable icon. And it even thought it's a camera or scanner and put it there!
    What's going on?

    Any chance of posting or PM'ing me your wmsetup.log file? So far I've seen one and that was a total install failure, so isn't the same problem you had.
