Site Plan in Illustrator - Tips?

I'm creating a site plan for a campus using Illustrator - anyone have any good examples or ideas on how to make it really pop?  I'm using gradients instead of flat green fills for grass, transparencies and shadows on the trees - basically gradients everywhere instead of just fills - any other ideas?
Thanks.

c,
It is rather difficult to give any advice without seeing what you have. And trying to make something really pop may really be overdoing. Sometimes simple stands out and complicated is just messy.
In any case, the best place to ask is the Illustrator forum:

  • How to create noise texture - Illustrator Tips

Hello. I saw this piece of art on one of the Illustrator tips & techniques section, and was wondering if someone knew how to create this "noise" texture in Illustrator?
What I've had to do in the past to get a similar effect was to complete my illustration in Illustrator, then bring that artwork into Photoshop and paint over the desired areas... but this looks a lot nicer than the results I've gotten. If this can be done in vector, that would be another plus!
Does anyone have any insight they could share on this?
    Thank you!

    You are welcome.
The site of which that tutorial is a part (HERE) has a lot of good tutorials, including a few more about adding texture in Illustrator.

  • Can you convert your desktop site plan into the phone & tablet version w/o re-creating the pages?

Can you convert your desktop site plan into the phone & tablet version without re-creating the landing pages? This seems too extensive to have to re-design each page?

    Cwsnell,
On your nav bar there is a shorcut to other pages.
The most effecient way I have found to do this from the phone layout,
click on the page icon shown above
type in the name of the page (and select the desktop version as indicated by the icon of the monitor)
select all on that page (CTRL A / Command A) and copy (CTRL C / Command C)
revert back to the phone layout page and paste (CTRL V / Command V)
then resize, delete what you dont need, make any other edits and your done!
There is not a way to copy a page entirely over.  The mobile version should have less information and less imagery to enable fast load times.

How can I send a site plan to client for approval?

    Hi Chirptile,
There is no specific option to send only the site plan to someone for review. But you can send the locally saved .muse file via email and your client can open that file in Muse to review.
Please clarify further if I misunderstood in any way. Also you can contact us here Contact Customer Care -> click on 'I Still need help?. Contact Us' and then chat now for any instant help.
    Hope that helps!

    Spot Colors... o Tintas Planas...,

  • Muse Site Plan Question

    Hello out there!
I'm a self taught (well, still frantically learning) "designer", so if this question is super fundamental I apologize
I have grand plans for this site I'm building but I can't for the life of me figure out how to layout the planning stages! What I would like would be something like this:
    HOME
    (with only two buttons
    Interiors & Exteriors)
                                                                                                   INTERIORS                                                                                                          EXTERIORS
                                                                                    (HOME)                                                                                                                                          (HOME)
ABOUT                    PORTFOLIO                 CONTACT                     BLOG            EXTERIORS                                   ABOUT                    PORTFOLIO               CONTACT                    BLOG             INTERIORS
The Crew                       Bathrooms                                                                                                                                   The Crew                          Whole House
Why We're Cool              Kitchens                                                                                                                                       Why We're Cool               Windows
Are We Right For You?   Basements                                                                                                                                   Are We Right For You?    Doors
                                                                                  Other Rooms                                                                                                                                                                         Historic Restoration
However, when I put it in Muse menus don't work out & pages need new names (I feel like Atreyu in Never Ending Story...)
Like I said I apologize if this is super fundamental, but google has yielded zero results
    Thanks!
    Vanessa

Actually, Muse does allow two pages to have the same name, just not the same filename.
By default the filename is generated from the name the page is given in Plan view, so that's whether the duplicate name restriction comes from. If you go to Page Properties you can turn off this automatic behavior and make the filename whatever you want as long as it's unique for your entire site.
Every page has the name used in the menu (and Plan view), the title used in the browser tab and search results, and the filename. By default Muse generates the title and filename from the name entered in Plan view, but you can override that in Page Properties.

  • Site to learn Illustrator basics from the beginning

    Is there a website were
I could learn Illustrator from the beg
    gining. Starting with the basics.

    carbootsupplies,
The Helpfiles, which has replaced the manual of former versions, is not a bad place to start. You may use the Index and Search features to enter areas of particular interest/need, and/or you may go through (a part of) the whole Help. You should try things, not only read about them.
This forum is also helpful when it comes to unintelligible parts, and to get past especially difficult tasks.
Apart from that there is a number of books/sites to learn from, in some cases for more experiences users; some sites are free.

  • Best way to import Site design in illustrator to Dreamweaver

I have graphically designed a web page in Illustrator and
wish to import it into Dreamweaver to add hyperlinks and such so
its coded properly (i have no experience in coding or web design
prior to this). The menu buttons are already a part of the design
in Illustrator, would they need to be sliced seperatly in order to
    create hyperlinks?
What would be the best way to go about all this?
    Thanks very much
    Jamie

    bump.

  • Join Paths

Let me select multiple paths, and where the endpoints occupy the same position (or within a user-definable distance), choose Object > Join Paths.
I work with DWG site plans within Illustrator frequently. When these files are imported, complex paths are broken into line segments. It is not uncommon to wind up with several THOUSAND line segments in a single site plan. Having to select the endpoints of each of these segments and join them is a real drag (sorry).
I know the the illustrati call us former FreeHand users whiners, but this is a feature FH had for years.

    + 1
I'm using illustrator mainly to make manuals from autocad plans. so I'm on pc for sure.
    Rick Johnson from Graffix
    http://rj-graffix.com/software/plugins.html
did a wonderfull job with it's "concatenate and assimilate plugins", and also with an extended and very useful selection menu.
Unfortunately he doesn't seems to be able to compilate the plugin for Ilustrator cs4 pc.It's a shame, I have to keep my old cs2 in order to do the job.
I don't understand why this kind of feature doesn't exist in illustrator, after  more than 14 versions.
We are using more than 520 layers and the workflow :"select two point then join ..is pitifully slow". It's simply madness
    (please excuse my poor english)
Illustrator is importing very well autocad files..so why don't go further ?
