Site problems in various browsers.

I've completed a rough draft of my family's business site on iWeb. I've successfully published it to MobileMe and have even transferred it over to their Yahoo! domain.
Everything looks fantastic in Safari; however, things aren't so great when using Firefox and IE.
Firefox:
1. The shadows and reflections are missing. Based on what I've read, I'm assuming that's a common problem.
2. My home page is incorrectly spaced up top. There's a small gap between the top of the page and the background. This does not happen on any other page in the site. This also does not happen on Windows Firefox.
3. My Contact Form (which I based on Yahoo!'s HTML) is missing the send/reset buttons. This is not the case with Mac's Safari. The buttons are missing in Windows Safari.
IE:
1. The shadows and reflections cause the page to load unbearably slow - even with a high speed connection. There aren't that many effects to begin with. The site loads so slow that I'm unable to navigate to other pages and check things out.
Any idea how to get the site to work well with browsers other than Safari? Any suggestions at all?
Thank you.

1. The shadows and reflections are missing. Based on what I've read, I'm assuming that's a common problem.
Solution:
1. Add all the decoration to the image.
2. Select the image and type Cmd-C (copy)
3. Open Preview.app and type Cmd-N (new)
4. Type Cmd-C (copy)
5. Go back to iWeb and type Cmd-V (paste)
You now have a single image with all the decoration. The filesize of the image is usually the same as all the individual parts. BTW, the reflection is created on the fly by the browser. MSIE is rather backwards when it comes to this kind of technology.
And while in Preview.app you can save the image as pdf. Instead of going back to iWeb and paste, you now can also go back to iWeb and drag the pdf on the page. The scaling is very good.
2. My home page is incorrectly spaced up top. There's a small gap between the top of the page and the background. This does not happen on any other page in the site. This also does not happen on Windows Firefox.
Didn't see it, but the background on the different pages goes up and down slightly. Can't tell why. I usually tweak until it's perfect.
3. My Contact Form (which I based on Yahoo!'s HTML) is missing the send/reset buttons. This is not the case with Mac's Safari. The buttons are missing in Windows Safari.
Increase the height of the HTLM Snippet box. Drag down at the handles.

  • Browser problem.(All browsers across users)

    Hi,
    I have a really annoying problem through all browsers I have installed(Chrome, Firefox 5 and Safari), and I really have tried so much to fix it.
    Basically the problems are with examples...
    http://www.avforums.com/forums/index.php - on this site nothing happens when I click login/sign up in the corner or when i use search, it's all glitched.
    http://www.fileserve.com/file/h7PVh6Y/3DTotal-Lighting.La.Ruelle.3ds.Max.MentalR ay%26VRay.by_instantloader.rar - here I can't click on log in again, the countdown doesn't start when I try free downloader and other buttons do nothing also.
    last example
    http://www.geocaching.com/ - where it says enter your postal, location, etc...that stays when it should just disappear when i go to type in it, and when I do get my location typed it won't search anyway.
    so any ideas whats the problem here? none of these are issues on my macbook, just the imac, really irritating. i think it could be some java thing i have to delete somewhere, but i can't find it, someone told me to go /library/caches but nothing was there anyway
    cheers guys

    I didn't have any problems with those sites with Snow Leopard v10.6.7 / Safari 5.0.5 or Firefox 3.6.6.
    When you experience problems with multiple browsers on more then one user account, it's time to check the startup disk.
    From your admin account, launch Disk Utility. /Applications/Utilities.
    Select MacintoshHD in the panel on the left then select the FirstAid tab.
    Click: Verify Disk  (not Verify Disk Permissions). If the startup disk needs repairing, follow the instructions for Using Disk Utility to verify or repair disks

  • Problem with various programs freezing/not working

    I'm not sure if it's a problem with the computer itself or with the software, but perhaps someone on here can help me.
    For about a week now I've been having problems with various programs on my iMac. These programs include iTunes, Force Quit, Shut Down, Safari, Finder, and certain functions on the keyboard.
    The problems I've been having revolve around the programs freezing up when you either first try to operate them or after opening the programs and trying to click on things within the program itself.
    A good example: I haven't been able to use iTunes past the point of opening it up. Once I try to play a song, it freezes up and the rainbow wheel comes up and just keeps on spinning for eternity, or until I manually reboot the computer via the power button.
    The volume controls on the keyboard don't work at all. When I first boot up the computer, I can press a volume button and the symbol will appear on the screen, but the level won't move up or down and if you press it again after that disappears then it doesn't reappear.
    Force Quit and other applications tend to stay on the screen after you click the quit button or other end/cancel button and won't go away until iMac is rebooted manually by button on back.
    Safari gets stuck on occasion depending on which site I go to. It happened once when I went to MySpace.com, but only cos of one of the flash sites they were advertising. I went to the same site an hour later and it was fine since it was advertising something else. I have a job site I can't access because when I click on the 'jobs' link to look for a job, it gets 3/4 of the way through the upload and freezes.
    And right now I can't tell you which model I have since I can't access the 'About This Mac' info, other than to tell you it's the 20" with 320 GB with Leopard software, Mac OS X v10.5. It gets regular updates.
    So... if there's anyone who could help me, I would greatly appreciate it.
    Please note, I don't have Apple Care since I can't afford it yet, and I just bought my computer in October 2007. Thanks!

    Using a IP191 monitor, have random horizontal streaks on display - have no problem with other browsers; also no problem with FF on other family PC's.
    These "streaks" appear to be area of too high frequency scanning; they can be cleared by scrolling up and/or down.

    hello, maybe that's an issue with hardware acceleration - please try [[Upgrade your graphics drivers to use hardware acceleration and WebGL|updating your graphics driver]], or in case this doesn't solve the issue or there is no new version available at the moment, disable hardware acceleration in the firefox ''menu [[Image:New Fx Menu]] > options > advanced > general''.

  • Previewing site design in other browsers.

    How does one go about previewing  the site design in other browsers as one is working / building it?.
    ie. Is the Muse Browser the best and only way with out full publishing or uploading the site?

    Hello,
    Choosing File-->Preview Page/Site in browser makes the site visible on the default system browser.
    So, in order to test the file on different browsers, the default browser of the system can be changed and the file can be tested.

    I have run Regedit and found two instances of z:rc204D Content\iPad Media\Pictures in keys My Pictures
    These were in

    and
    HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\Explorer\User Shell Folders
    Redirecting these to the default MY PICTURES on the c: drive has allowed the installer to run and almost complete the process to the point of installing the files and putting an icon on the desktop.
    It now whinges with Error 1923. Service Acrobat Update Service (AdobeARMService) could not be installed. Verify that you have sufficient privileges to install system services.
    I am the only user of the computer and DO have full privileges. I get the same response when I run the installer program as An Administrator.
    What else does it require to allow it to install properly?

  • Problems with site displaying in different browsers

    Hi,
    I have made this site in dreamweaver CS3 using one of the default templates when you make a new documents. On Safari and Firefox (and I think on recent IE browsers as well) it looks fine, however on IE6 and IE7 it messes up completely, and the content in the middle frame is pushed right down to the bottom of the page. You can view the site here: http://www.flat29.com/ (and check the source code there too)
    I have tried a number of different things to fix the problem, but I have no idea what is causing the issue, so its difficult to troubleshoot! Any help with this would be massively appriciated!
    Thanks
    Dan

    Unfortunately you have paid the penalty for using one of the templates which ships with Dreamweaver. They are amongst the most awfully constructed pieces of shite I have ever come across. They are not written for the novice to understand but by some twatt that has their head up their arse.
    Now I'm going to give you a few simple steps (which Adobe should have f_cking done before they released these pieces of crap) which will provide a stable approach.
    Step 1) Move your 'mainContent' <div> to directly after the end of your sidebar1 </div>. You can do this by selecting the 'mainContent' <div> tag at the bottom of Dreamweaver design view then switching to code view where you will see all of its code selected. Cut the code.
    Step 2) Go back into Dreamweaver design view and next select the 'sidebar1' <div> tag along the bottom of the window. Now switch back to code view and scroll down the page until you come to the end of the highlighted section of code i.e. (the end of the sidebar1 <div>)
    Step 3) Place your mouse cursor right after the closing </div> tag of the 'sidebar1' <div> and paste back in the 'mainContent' <div>.
    Step 4) Amend the css in your css style sheet for the 'mainContent' css selector to as below:
    .thrColFixHdr #mainContent {
    float: left;
    margin-left: 14px;
    display: inline;
      background-color: #000000;
    width: 404px;
    Thats it!
    Don't worry about IE6 no-one much uses that anymore.

  • Various Site Problems

    http://jobs.oracle.com/
    Code is as follows:
    <!-- Copyright &copy 1995,1998, Oracle Corporation, All Rights Reserved. -->
    <HTML>
    <BODY>
    <title>HTML META tag refresh</title>
    <meta http-equiv="Refresh" content="0;url=http:/jol_ext-jolap-dad/plsql/jol_www_pages_pkg.jol_intro">
    </head>
    </html>
    Seven lines of code total, containing four problems ... not a great impression.
    1. Comment contains &copy ... html character codes aren't necessary in a comment, and even if they were, it's missing the terminating semicolon to make it valid.
    2. First tag after <html> is <body>, when it should be <head>
    3. The content of the meta refresh lists the URL as http:/jol_... I'm not sure where to start with this one. It should either be a relative URL (i.e. url=/jol_ext-...) or an absolute URL (i.e. http://jobs.oracle.com/jol_ext-...). This is some horrible attempt to do both, and ends up doing neither.
    4. The second to last tag is </head>. While this is half correct, since the meta tag should precede the closing </head> tag, there is no corresponding opening <head> tag, so the tags are mismatched. According to the order in which tags were opened, this "should" be </body> (which would also be wrong, for a different reason.
    [5. This isn't really an error, but a nitpick. An http response code 301 should probably be used in this situation instead of a crappy <meta> refresh. Or, even better, just put the actual content in the web site root directory ... no redirect needed. If you do insist on using a meta redirect, the title of the page should probably be something more display-friendly, such as "Redirecting, please wait," instead of a low-level implementation-specific note.]
    Then, when I went to report this problem, naturally I go to www.oracle.com -> Contact us, to find a "site feedback" link. As others have pointed out before [ http://forums.oracle.com/forums/thread.jspa?messageID=1735536 ], no such link exists. However, in visiting the "Contact Us" page, an HTTP authentication message appears for login.oracle.com. I tracked this down to the "image" /corporate/contact/dotted_horizontal.gif ... which actually results in an HTTP 302 temporarily moved message, redirecting the browser to https://login.oracle.com/pls/orasso/orasso.wwsso_app_admin.ls_login?site2pstoretoken=v1.2~5426~A2B7981364[...]
    This is further complicated by the fact that [apparently] this page prompts Opera for http authentication, and loads a regular web page for Firefox and Internet Explorer. Regardless, it's at least slightly broken (probably in at least two ways).
    For being "the information company," Oracle really needs to work on how their information is presented.

    Thanks. I googled for oracle site feedback, and this was the closest I could find.
    I was a little curious, so I investigated further on the http authentication point.
    I simulated the HTTPS session, and discovered that, in fact, the server did respond differently based on the User-Agent string (ugh, browser discrimination ... one of my big pet peeves). When I used the User-Agent string from Internet Explorer 6 (Mozilla/4.0 (compatible; MSIE 6.0; Windows NT 5.1; SV1; .NET CLR 1.1.4322; .NET CLR 2.0.50727; .NET CLR 3.0.04506.30)), the server responded with a 302 Moved Temporarily page. However, when I used the Opera User-Agent string (or a made-up string) (Opera/9.20 (Windows NT 5.1; U; en)), the server responded with a 401 Unauthorized HTTP response (and WWW-Authenticate: BASIC realm="Single Sign-On").

  • Recently I am having various problems on various pages.

    In the last few weeks, I have noticed some odd problems. Some of them are.
    On Google, or any other page where I do a search for images, or there are numerous images, the firts few load fine, but most don't load at all. For instance... If I do an image search on Google, the thumbnails for the first 50 or so show fine. Then there are rows of image placeholders with only an occaisonal image displayed. I have tried in other browsers, and both Chrome and IE have no such problems.
    Also.
    On some sites that require Adobe Flash Player to be installed, I get a window saying I have to download and install it, even though I already have the latest version installed. I have tried uninstalling it and then reinstalling it, but it hasn't fixed the problem.
    And on a lot of pages, I am noticing formatting errors when they display.
    I also have major issues installing web apps. Lke the Automatic Troubleshooter here, it will not install. I can click the button, but nothign happens.
    I have tried doing a complete reinstall of Firefox, as well as all of the various Adibe players, Java, and MS Silverlight. But the problems are only getting worse. And I have already disabled all but the most important plug ins and extensions.
    Any help is appreciated.

    '''Try Firefox Safe Mode''' to see if the problem goes away. Safe Mode is a troubleshooting mode, which disables most add-ons.

    * On Linux you can open Firefox 4.0+ in Safe Mode by quitting Firefox and then going to your Terminal and running: firefox -safe-mode (you may need to specify the Firefox installation path e.g. /usr/lib/firefox)
    * Or open the Help menu and click on the '''Restart with Add-ons Disabled...''' menu item while Firefox is running.

  • IWeb 08 site problem viewing in Explorer on PC

    Hi guys, anyone out there please whose able to advise this old geezer who's just created his first ever web site using iWeb 08?
    I've created my site on my Intel 24inch iMac, and using one of the templates iWeb gave me. It's a simple site. I saved it to a folder on my iMac so that I could test it. All works well viewing it in Safari on the Mac.
    However, when I try to view it using Explorer under VISTA (as I assume most people visiting my site once it's published WILL do) I have problems. Although the site opens fine, the navigation 'headings' which are used by the reader to work their way through the various pages, are hidden at the top of the screen behind Explorer's menu bars. So, although they can see my Home Page, they can navigate nowhere further.
    What am I doing wrong? I'm getting balder by the minute trying to work it out! (lol)
    Please email me at [email protected] ?
    Regards, Dave

    Hey there bud! iWeb '08 and internet explorer work together kinda funny. iWeb is awesome in other browsers it seems. Here are some fixes that I learned of. Im no expert, so I'm not sure why you must go this route- but I have done a few sites and these rules worked for me:
    1) Make sure all lines, (even those around boxes & picture frames) are greater than 1pt. I use 1.25.
    2) Try not to overlap the boxes. On some sites I created this made IE lock up.
    3) Stray away from transparent boxes. Only one of my sites worked well with them.
    4) Stray away from shadows if at all possible. Your page will load faster.
    5) Stray away from lines, your page will load faster if you just use boxes.
    Once again, I am no expert, but this is the advice that I found and tried when I had the same problem. Good Luck!

  • How do you stop 'Transferring Data from...' in toolbar on first page of a website - eventually stops but takes a minute then loases some images on a site when complete - other browsers are fine.

    Only happens on index page of website - Firefox repeatedly says 'connecting to site/transfering data from site in the status bar for about a minute before finally 'done', then some images on the index page are missing. All other browsers are fine - how do you turn off this problem in Firefox - there is nothing to download on the index page, already displayed but can't continue unless you jump to another page in the site. Searched web and many references to this but no definate answer. Code is same on all pages of site, just the index page which hangs.

  • Sporadic site problems in IE 6 & 7

    Hi,
    I've got a site that's almost ready to launch...except that
    it frequently hangs up IE 6 and 7 the first time you try to open
    the site. Once it has hung IE and IE has been shut down, after that
    it will come up OK... Works fine in FireFox. I built it out using
    Dreamweaver page templates built by my design firm. I am not a
    coder, by any means, but by now I've had some focused consultation
    from people with much more coding expertise. We've made some
    changes and while the site is working better, it's still not what
    you'd call reliable. I'm wondering if some of you would be willing
    to take a look and let me know your results; specifically, does it
    come up the first time you try? what browser and version are you
    using? If it worked, does it seem fast enough? and whether or not
    it works for you, do you see anything in the home page code that
    looks suspicious? Have you seen this kind of problem before, and if
    so did it end happily?
    This is a pre-launch site:
    http://76.12.90.122/index.html
    Thanks for any feedback you can offer.
    Marge

    Hi Joel,
    Taking a quick peek at your markup, it looks like you are
    using spry:region/spry:detail region attributes on <table>
    and <tr> tags. You can't use them on those specific tags
    because IE doesn't support a writeable innerHTML property on those
    elements. We've tried to document the list of unsupported tags in
    these docs:
    http://labs.adobe.com/technologies/spry/articles/data_set_overview/index.html
    http://labs.adobe.com/technologies/spry/articles/data_api/apis/region.html#spryregion
    http://labs.adobe.com/technologies/spry/articles/data_api/apis/region.html#sprydetailregio n
    but I know lots of folks miss it cause there's so much info
    in those docs.
    In your particular case, the solutions are easy ... in the
    case where you use it on a <tr>, it looks like that
    <tr> only contains on <td>. Move the spry:detailregion
    attribute on to the <td> and things should work for that
    particular part of your page.
    In the case where you have a spry:detailregion on a
    <table>, you'll probably have to wrap that table with
    something like a <div>, and then put the spry:detailregion on
    that <div> instead of on the <table> itself.
    Let me know if that fixes things for you.
    And just a note on sites like this ... it takes us a while to
    figure out what is wrong because we often have to piece together
    your page by downloading the assets manually because browsers don't
    always save everything when you save the page locally ... other
    folks might find it easier to jump in and help if there were a
    minimal test case that was zipped up.
    Hopefully in your case that won't be necessary. :-)
    Btw, your page is looking nice!

  • Site problems in Firefox and Internet Explorer

    Here's my site: http://davesnowgraphics.com/DSG/Home.html
    Created in iWeb '08. Here is a list of problems. Solutions welcome.
    1) In all browsers: links to internal pages open up in a new window or tab. As an internal link, the option to "Open page in a new window" is not even available. I therefore assume that they should open in the same window, but most open in a new page or tab.
    2) In Firefox (both Mac and PC) the text spacing is messed up. Throws spaces in the middle of words and generally stretches text or letter spacing, making text returns seemingly at random. The fonts are all supposedly web safe (Trebuchet MS and Times New Roman).
    3) Site is TOTALLY jacked in Internet Explorer. Transparency of linked images dumped, making intended graphics solid white. Also on the PC (I don't have the Mac I.E.), my text gets hijacked by random text links with those annoying pop-up boxes that lead elsewhere.
    Is it possible for an iWeb-generated site to work in commonly-used browsers, or do I have to learn Dreamweaver?

    Okay, so I did some code experimentation and solved everything in my last post inquiry.
    Seems the entire line *onclick="window.open(this.href); return false;" onkeypress="window.open(this.href); return false;"* needs to be removed from the javascript that iWeb generates when you have a link associated with a graphic. Pain in the butt, but it works.
    Also did extensive searching for title= and manually changed the following text to what I wanted it to be.
    I'm interested to know if these issues are resolved with the iWeb '09 update. Anybody know?
    I also removed the graphics that I was using as links on the cubes. I put simple square shapes in the middle of the cube sides, made them transparent and assigned the link to them. They don't map the entire cube side as a link, but enough to make it functional. Also, for some reason, the fact that they're native iWeb-generated shapes and not placed graphics, they open up in the same page without having to delete the code line mentioned above.
    Still no solutions to the following I.E. issue in my initial post.
    I have the site open on my PC right now in IE. If you go to About > Services, the words "Business", "communication" and "Project Management" are green with double underlines. If I roll over them, I get a popup window with an advertisement for GameVance. What's up with that? Is that a setting in my local Internet Explorer properties that I need to disable?
