Site Search Index Automation

Is there a way to schedule site search to re-index the site on a given frequency, such as once a day at 12 AM PST?
I assume not.  Is this feature in the roadmap for future development?

I'm pretty sure the system does not automatically reiindex products and web app items...  If I add products to the system they do not show up in the site search results until 20-60 min after I manually push the button to re-index the site.

  • Will Site Search Index Image "alt" tags

Well, that's the question. Will a site search set to type "Entire Website" index image "alt" tags or, as a plus, PDFs?
    Thanks!

    Hi,
Alt tags are not searchable, but pdfs are!
    Kind Regards,

  • Search index - and high availability

Running Search on WFE(A) and APP(B) server - with this topology.
The company relies heavily on the Search Index - so a reset of the index isn't always an option, and the re-build takes a lot of time, so in order to avoid a index reset.
Is it possible to build a server X that holds the Index copy for server A+B and then when a reset is necessary on server A+B - tell SP2013, it now have to utilize the index that "sits" on server X, while rebuilding is done on server A
    + B?
Can I build a separate index for a specific content source/site collection? - so the content source
e.g. "http://contoso.com" are in search indexY and the "http://contoso.com/sites/" is in IndexZ   - and that way only reset indexZ and not touch indexY?
Does a second "Search Service Application" contribute/solve any?

    Hi,
1.Yes,you can add a new index partition consists of server A and server X(replica) , and add another index partition consists of server B and server Y(replica). For more information, you can refer to the article:
    http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/jj862355(v=office.15).aspx#Search_Index_Part
2.No,you cannot. But you can reset index at site level and list level.
    https://support.office.com/en-US/article/Manually-request-crawling-and-reindexing-of-a-site-9afa977d-39de-4321-b4ca-8c7c7e6d264e
3.No, you donot need to create a seacond "Search Service Application".
    Thanks,

  • Quick site search Question

OK... So I've asked a website to re-index the site search, about 8 hours ago,
But it's not picking up a lot more stuff. I've got really specific things that should be quite unique. e.g. I'm searching for W4S1 Industrial Switch which is a Web app.
Some web apps are indexed, others not.
Is it a site cache thing?
What should I do? Any tutorials on this? :-)
    Cheers, Dave

My bad david. I thought you were referring to sitemap.xml. In case of site
search it is indeed 1h and if the item is still not coming up you should
    contact support.

  • How to make site search module work?

    Hi guys
I am working on a sample site http://webmar.businesscatalyst.com/index.
I had insert a site search module but anyhow when i search for any query and click the Go button, it will go the searchresult page but nothing get displayed.
I do had placed a {module_searchresults} in the page content area of searchresult page.
How I populate by search result page?
    Thanks
    Andy

Andy make sure you index (re-index)your site
Modules > Site Search > Re- Index button
If site is a sample site ( demo mode ) I am not sure if it will index with new changes to the way demo sites works. Give it a try it may be ok internally, but wont index with S E unless live site
Good to re-index if made changes or added content

  • Site search servlet...urgent

Iam developing a site in JSP, where I need to incorporate a site search, which will index and search the internal site based on a search query. If anybody has the source code for a site search servlet, please let me know. I need that urgently.
    Thanx in advance,

If you want a fast solution you need to add the meta tags or all the html-free content of the site to a database and use that to perform the search. You can then build a program to index the site once per day or whenever it is updated, whichever works better for you, and enter all the data into the database. If your search has to go through the metatags for every search you will find it ends up being slow. Also, if it is not searching the page text it will miss pages and this can be annoying for users when they know a page they want to find has a piece of text in it, but they can't search for it.

  • OT: Google Site Search & WWW Search

I finally got Google to recognize my sitemap! (No easy task,
    made lots
of mistakes). I then went to Google Free to get what I need
    for both
site search & www search. (I'm not entirely sure if the
    two are

    Just waiting
    for stats now)
The site itself sits inside a frame as it's mirror. So, I
    know I have to
reveal the true URLs. That's the one I entered into the
    Google field to
    go to the next step.
There are no pages in our index for "yoursite.com"*
    * We cannot perform SiteSearch on this domain(s).
Please remove/change the domain(s)entered, or select
    WebSearch only,
by leaving the domain(s) field blank.

This works very well too, it's a PHP engine using Google's

  • Site Search Functionality

I am looking for a way to search the entire site using an internal search engine. Is there a custom control, or can IIS do this? I'm starting from scratch here, so any information will be helpful.

No no no, I'm just looking to do a plain old site search of content. Part searching is done in a control I believe, and we even have some custom searching for specific types of parts.
What I'm looking for is for somebody to type in the phrase "foo bar" and get a list of results that are related to "foo bar" in order of relevance, much the way Google does with the web (or even a specific site via the site: modifier).
Perhaps my question begs too simple an answer, but I can't seem to figure out what it is. Since this is my first IIS-based site I'm managing, it's possible there is functionality built into it that takes care of it, so I thought that Web Tools might have something instead. One other thing to consider is that Web Tools uses dynamic content based upon values of get variables (I believe pageDetail defines page content), which may or may not interfere with search indexing.
Be not confused: my question has nothing at all to do with SEO or ranking on popular search engines, but is related solely to an internal search engine, if said engine even exists.

  • Site Search Issue

I am using a nifty simple site search created by Satadip Dutta and I
have it working for my site when I use the search button on my
search.htm page, but I would also like for the search box and button
to be on every page so when the user types something in and clicks the
'Search' button it takes them to the search.htm page and shows the
results. Currently it goes to the page but it won't show the results.
    Here is my html:

I'm not all that good with JavaScript (IMO, it should not be required for a site or page to function - only for enhancement), but I looked around for this search script by Satadip Dutta. That name comes up all over the place, though.
I am surprised you're not asking him. He is the in the best position to answer your questions. Or at least ask on a forum where you got the script, if there is one. It seems not enough people here have used the script to help you out.
Or you might consider an alternative. I've used ZoomSearch by WrenSoft http://www.wrensoft.com/ quite happily on a small site. It has a scaled pricing structure, starting at free.
And, of course, there are lots of other alternatives.

  • Site search limitations when using Spry Widgets

Currently evaluating search tools to work with Spry
accordion, tabbed panels and so on. Apparently NONE of them do.
This is a big problem. Our site uses mostly Dreamweaver spry
    widgets.
I have tested the very highly rated zoom Search from WrenSoft
and also expect problems with Google Search and Atomz (based on web
    research I have done).
If one searches for a word residing in one of the spry tabbed
panels, accordians (there could be many layers on a single page of
course), site search engines correctly take you to the page but
naturally does not open the correct tabbed panel (Zoom Search
doesn't understand DW code of course). Just presents you with the
default panel. User would have to dig through all panels on that
page to find the text. Our users need these nice interfaces. This
is reality. Also some of the Java script in Wrensoft that
highlights search words conflicts with existing Java script within
Dreamweaver. I've worked around some of it but the core issue is
the landing on the page and opening the correct tab. The question
is can anyone suggest a search engine tool that will work with
Dreamweaver Spry widgets or suggest something else. This is a huge
disincentive to use Spry. Perhaps build pages without Spry to
specifically go to after search? Sound like a lot of work.
    Thanks

This is not an issue specific to Spry, it's an issue with
other JavaScript solutions that show and hide content, and it is
also an issue if CSS is used show and hide content.
If you have a way to obtain the search terms from the search
engine page, then you might be able to handle this (based upon your
description, the WrenSoft JavaScript finds that info out), but then
you'd also have to have a search engine built within your page that
will search through the page and figure out what tab the searched
term(s) are on, and then show that tab, but then what happens when
you have terms on multiple tabs in a tab group? You'll have to
determine which search terms are more important than other terms.
There is code available that will allow you to open specific
tabs using the showPanel method. Check out the API for the Tabbed
    panel:
    http://labs.adobe.com/technologies/spry/articles/data_api/index.html
And perhaps take a look at the code for this page (check in
    the linked JavaScript file):
    http://labs.adobe.com/technologies/spry/samples/tabbedpanels/tabbed_panel_unobtrusive.htm
    http://labs.adobe.com/technologies/spry/samples/tabbedpanels/tp_unobtrusive.js
As the Spry code is namespaced to specifically prevent
conflicts with other JavaScript code, it would be good to know what
those conflicts are so that others can be aware of them to try to
    prevent them in their pages.

  • When I open a new tab it does not bring up my homepage. It brings up another sites search engine page.

When I click on the new tab button, a small cross, it opens the new tab, but displays another sites search page, not my homepage. I cannot find where to tell it to open my homepage on all new tabs that are opened from the tab bar.

The basic Firefox build has always opened a blank page when you open a new tab.
Maybe some add-on you installed modified that feature of Firefox which now opens all tabs in a different page. Here's what you will need to do.
Open Firefox -> go to Help Menu -> select "Restart with Add-ons Disabled"
Firefox will close then it will open up with just basic Firefox. The tabs will now be opening in a blank page. You can Enable the add-ons again and check if its working properly.

    Hi there,
I used the ODT to make an app-v package of office 2013. However when I try to load the mlcfg32.cpl it displays the following error:

  • How do I get PDFs to appear in the site search results?

I have read that the BC site seach will show PDF files in its results - http://forums.adobe.com/message/5077569.
I have added a PDF via the media dowloads and added the litterate to a test page via the module {module_literature,a,}. I then reindexed the site, however when I search for something I do not get any results.
The site search is set up to search "Entire Website (including Secure Zone)",
Any ideas why this doesn't work?

    Hi Dean
PM me the site url and few details as how you are trying to search as it should work fine.
You can create media downloads and then in site search if you use keywords such as download name then it should return the result with links corresponding to media items.

I just upgraded my BC subscription to webMarketing and I am wanting to add a site search box to my site but I am having troubles with the directions found on the Adobe Website: Business Catalyst Help | Add a site search box.

Open the template in editing mode by selecting Site Manager > Page Templates, and choosing the template from the list of templates. My BC Admin page has "Site Manager" on the left - but when I click it - it only shows "Web Forms" and "System E-mails" I have no option for "Page Templates".
So how do I get "Page Templates" to show up.  I'm pretty sure my "webMarketing" subscription allows for a site search box...maybe I am mistaken.
    Thanks for any help!

The editor is that of the WYSIWYG editor in the BC admin itself.
The important thing to know is Muse is NOT BC, it is not the only thing you use to make a BC site, far from it. IT is a really basic tool to build basic sites. The instructions you will find on the BC docs will never reference the way to do it for Muse, just BC, or you can use your own code editor.
So you need to go login to your website admin and then you will find the pages, templates etc.
