Site Studio vs WebCenter Sites

All,
Which product is better suited for web-content management capabilities? SS comes as part of WebCenter Suite - Content. But i'm looking for why there're 2 product lines for WCM.
Is Sites going  the way forward?

SSXA is more a part of WebCenter Portal - esp. the Content Presenter Display Templates based on SSXA region templates.
Why both Portal and Sites?
Not an easy question, because there certainly is an overlap in the functionality and use cases. On the other hand, there are obvious differences, too - Sites mark well in 'marketing-type' site creation projects, whilst Portal (the front-end platform for the Fusion Apps) has features to support the portal specifications (creating/consumptions of portlets, mash-ups).
From licensing perspective, you can go with the WebCenter Suite Plus license (containing everything), from technological/architectural perspective you always have to consider if either Sites or Portal are a better fit.

  • How to set one of the elements in contributable mode to non editable in oracle site studio

    Hi,
I am using oracle site  studio and webcenter content. In contributable mode for a cdf I have a static element and 4 columns in that(4 elements). I want to enter data in all 4 columns and after that I want to make one of the column as non editable. Is it possible? If yes, kindly let know how this can be achieved.
    Thanks in advance

If you don't need to actually display the non-editable region in the editor, then you could do the following:
Add all 4 elements to the region definition.
    Add your content/data.
Remove the non-editable element from the region definition.
The content/data will still be stored in the CDF and should be retrievable.

  • Webcenter -Content can be socialized ???

    Hello,
We are work on POC and here I need your suggestions and help.
We have an application using Site Studio and Webcenter Content. Our application shows different electronic products in each secondary page. Its working fine.
Now we want our user to communicate. They should be allowed to express their experience and feedback. I looked into OSN - Conversation feature. I liked it!!
what is our requirement and plan::
    1. We can have one small portlet where we can show latest conversation.
    2. If user want to express they can log in and add their comments.
In different words, if you have used/ seen the Facebook application, currently we see one portlet on right top, which shows all the updates of your friends. Similar things but in my case we will show all the conversation related to the product. So if I am looking at Iphone product, we get all conversation only related to the Iphone. Once I switch to different page lets suppose Samsung 4S product page then we should see only conversation related to Samsung 4S product.
    Suggestion need??
    1. So do we have any connection with webcenter content and 'Oracle Social network' in terms of implementation.
    2. How can I selectively bring the conversation feature in my application?
    3. Do we have OSN downloadable tool available for POC?
    4. Please lets us know any development document available?
Please let me know if you need more information.
    Thanks,
    MAK

    Hi Srinivas ,
Yes , ECM can be integrated with Oracle EBS (enterprise business suite) and other Oracle Apps as well like Peoplesoft , Siebel etc .
Details can be read from the following link : http://docs.oracle.com/cd/E23943_01/doc.1111/e17953/toc.htm

  • Region Template in ContentPresenter - JDeveloper

    Hello together,
is it possible to use a SiteStudio Region Template in the Content Presenter, when I add the Content Presenter in JDeveloper to a jspx page.
Here is a screen shot from the properties:
    http://s14.directupload.net/images/140122/fxmb3mog.jpg
    The senario:
I use a query to select a Contributor Data File from the Content Server and now I want to select a suitable template from the Content Server as well.
What do I have to do? Is this senario actually possible?
    Thanks for your answers.
    Lukas

    Hi.
In official documentation Creating Content Presenter Display Templates - 11g Release 1 (11.1.1.8.0) you'll find following:
Oracle recommends that you use Content Presenter ADF templates to integrate Site Studio and WebCenter Portal instead of Site Studio region templates. The recommended flow is:
Develop region definitions in Site Studio
Develop ADF templates referencing region definitions using JDeveloper
Publish the templates and import them into Portal Server
Use Content Presenter to render the content and to enable users to contribute content
    Why recommends this way?.
    Performance and caching.
Site Studio will be deprecated in the future.
Integrates perfectly with ADF / Portal in terms of Framework, access and allows you to pass parameters / variables.
    When to use Region Template?.
When you have do internal or use complex functions of UCM.
As backward compatibility with old Region Templates built in Site Studio.
    I hope it helps.
    Regards.

First of all, I think you are in a wrong forum. This seems to be WebCenter Content
The list of components is available here: About Site Studio for External Applications - 11g Release 1 (11.1.1)
However, the error you get states something about indexes. You may have to re-run the Indexer after new components are enabled and the server restarted. See Managing Search Features - 11g Release 1 (11.1.1)

  • Site Studio Content in a Java Class

    Hi Gurus,
I would like to know if there's some Webcenter Content Service ou some Webcenter Portal interface, service, class ou data control to consume the content from a Site Studio Contributor Data File in my custom Java class.
Obviously I can request the XML from some URL and consume as any XML in Java, but if there's some way to abstract this implementation I think that would be a best practice,
eventually Oracle can do some change in XML patterns and if I use some service I don't need to worry about this.
There's in a Site Studio service called WCM_EDIT_DATA_FILE that I thought that can help, but this works in browser request, but no in my custom java service.
It's possible test this service in this way:
    http://<host>:<port>/cs/idcplg?IdcService=WCM_EDIT_DATA_FILE&dDocName=<dDocName>&IsSoap=1
I know that this thread are related with Webcenter Content, but I think that is more possible that someone from Portal already did this.
    Thanks for help

Never mind. I resolved this using a ResourceBundle, thanks to another posting on this forum. I must say, the oracle documentation for this feature is scant and erroneous.
How does one go about accessing a java resource object from a java class loaded into the database?
I created a.properties file and loaded it using loadjava.
Next I wrote a class in which I try to load the resource:
    import java.io.*;
    import java.util.*;
    public class C {
    public static void load() throws Exception {
    Properties p = new Properties();
    p.load(Thread.currentThread().getContextClassLoader().getResourceAsStream("a.properties"));
I then published method load as procedure p.
When I execute p, I get the following error:
    SQL> exec p
    java.lang.NullPointerException
    at C.load(C.java:5)
    BEGIN p; END;
    ERROR at line 1:
ORA-29532: Java call terminated by uncaught Java exception:
    java.lang.NullPointerException
    ORA-06512: at "QSI.P", line 0

    Thanks

I have Jdeveloper Studio 11.1.1.3.0 installed on my machine. I have installed the RIDC and Site Studio extensions in Jdeveloper using Help -> Check For Updates -> Source -> Install From file. I used oracle.ucm.wcm.jdev-11.1.1.zip and oracle.ucm.ridc.jdev-11.1.1.zip for this. These extensions got installed without any error.
Now when I am trying to create a new connection using Oracle Content Server Connection as connection type I am getting following error.

    Hi Pravin ,
SS with JDev provides you to create the SS Connection which is to be added to your project . We do not need a Oracle Content Server connection for that . To be able to do it you will need to install the Webcenter Plugins which will be available from :
Check For Updates -> Source -> <Online> - Select Webcenter Framework and Webcenter Portal .
Once these are deployed , then you will be able to create oracle content server connection .
    Hope this helps .
    Thanks

  • How to link to a file in UCM with content presenter site studio template

    Hi,
I have Webcenter spaces with content presenter showing Site studio content.
In this site studio region I have an element for rich text (html)
Now we want to create a link in this text to an existing document in UCM.
The question is how achief this?
There seems no standard functionality for doing this.
    Any suggestion is welcome!

  • UCM placeholders/sites in WebCenter

I'm wondering if/how Site Studio sites can be utilized in WebCenter.
There are few wonderful functions that can be gained from Site Studio:
    - data files, ie. ability to assign a query on the document repository
    - secondary page, ie. ability to display the content of the document formatted by the pre-selected style (DynamicConvertor)
    - contributor's mode, ie ability to make on-site modifications using WYSIWYG online editor or native desktop applications - this is also linked to a) show differences and b) approval workflows
    - plus one can use Desktop Integration Suite and Folders to integrate easily Office environment with content repository/site
To my understanding WebCenter provides similar functions (Data Controls, Content Presenter; UCM's contributor's mode has one important advantage - the CheckOutAndOpen component allows one-click opening the document, which I was told is not on WebCenter's roadmap).
However, if I have a site written in the new UCM 11g SSXA (JSPs), will I be able to move it easily to WebCenter environment? Will I be able to reuse fragments/regions/placeholders defined in my site in other WebCenter pages? Could some point me/write a "cookbook" how this can be obtained?
    Thanks.

If you are using the new version of WebCenter (11g PS3) you will be glad to hear that you can easily use site studio fragments in a webcenter portal application.
From this patch set, the content presenter has gained a lot in functionality. You can easily select the fragment you want from site studio and use this in webcenter. You even have the possibility to inline edit the content in webcenter when using site studio fragements.

  • Upgrade Content Server and Site Studio

    Hello Everyone,
We are trying to upgrade both Content Server and Site Studio from 7.1 / 7.2.1 to
    10gR3
    1) Instead of updating existing instance we Installed new 10gR3 instance
Exported folder structure archive, layout files and data files from old instance
    2) Imported into new 10gR3 instance.
    3) Tried to upgrade sitestudio websites
    4) Its created a project file but not adding any SiteStudio section properties
(ex. primaryURL, secondaryURL, IncludeSectionInNavigation etc.), if I open the site in
designer, it shows just blank site structure without any templates associated and all sections are disabled.
    Any ideas on this??
    Venkat

    Hi ,
If you are displaying the data from spaces only then all the operations like creating a web content , editing it etc can be done from Webcenter spaces itself .
    Thanks

  • Problem previewing Site Studio Data Files

    Hello,
I'm building a JSF webcenter application, which has lots of content that's going to be published using Site Studio.
Using Site Studio Designer, I have created:
    - An element definition (WYSIWYG)
    - A region definition that contains just the element above
    - A region template, that simply outputs the element (<!--$wcmElement("Element")-->)
    - A placeholder definition, associated to the region definition and region template above
    - Several Contributor Data Files, all of them associated to the region definition above
    On the webcenter application:
    - Content is shown using WCM_PLACEHOLDER (along with the templateDocName param)
    - A link that points to the WCM_BEGIN_EDIT_SESSION service is exposed for the authenticated users
    Additional UCM configuration:
    - UCM accounts are activated
    - Data files are categorized under the accounts created
    - There are Workflows to approve modifications on the data files
Everything is working fine, but when reviewing content on the workflow for approval/rejection, the content itself is not displayed. Instead, it gives me the following error message: *"Region template is unavailable"*. I can see that this is the service being called to get the HTML rendition:
    http://<server:port>/cs/idcplg?IdcService=SS_QD_GET_RENDITION&coreContentOnly=1&dDocName=PIO-HOME-SERVICOSGRATUITOS&dID=45601
After enabling the trace for "sitestudio" itens, the following gets logged:
    SSXA_GET_CACHE_SYNC_INFO [dUser=sysadmin][IsJava=1] 0.03409299999475479(secs)
         !csUserEventMessage,weblogic,ds-imesp-dof2.lab.kaizen.com.br:16200!csFileServiceReferredToBy,http://<server:port>/cs/idcplg?IdcService=REVIEW_WORKFLOW_DOC&dDocName=PIO-HOME-SERVICOSGRATUITOS&inQueueRedirect=1!csFileServiceUserAgent,Mozilla/5.0 (Windows NT 6.0; WOW64) AppleWebKit/534.24 (KHTML\, like Gecko) Chrome/11.0.696.65 Safari/534.24,GET intradoc.common.ServiceException: *!csSSQuickDiffRegionTemplateUnavailable*
         at sitestudio.quickdiff.SSQDFileServiceHandler.qdPrepareDelivery(Unknown Source)
         ... 28 more
Am I missing something? Do I have to configure the region template somewhere else?
Any help would be much appreciated, since I can't find any documentation about this error!
    Thanks,
    Tomy Inhauser

After 2 days trying to fix this problem, I finally posted it on the forum. 10 minutes later, I found the cause: the content item SS_DEFAULT_REGION_TEMPLATE, which is checked-in on the installation of the Site Studio components, was missing on my environment! (ie, someone deleted it)
Although it is clearly not a bug, it would be very nice for the error message to show the name of the region template that's unavailable, since these "system files" are not protected!

  • Jdeveloper vs Site Studio

    Hello,
I installed all of the software which I believe is needed to create a website from scratch. I am stuck trying to figure out if I need to use JDeveloper or SiteStudio to create a simple hello world home page. Off the OUCM tab under WinXP is Site Studio. Off the WebLogic tab is Jdeveloper. Which is the correct workflow?
    Thanks,
    Jim
P.S. any links that demonstrate the correct workflow?

You can follow the manual available at http://download.oracle.com/docs/cd/E17904_01/doc.1111/e13650/ssxa_creatingsites.htm#sthref327
(this shows how to create a simple home page from JDev)
Take a look at this link if you find something useful for Site Studio: http://www.oracle.com/technetwork/middleware/content-management/tutorials-084061.html
(however, once you get the principles, you should be able to do it yourself)
I'm wondering why you post to WebCenter forum? Of course, even with WebCenter you can create a simple "site" - check here http://download.oracle.com/docs/cd/E21764_01/webcenter.1111/e10273/toc.htm

  • Error in Web Location path when importing Site Studio Backup Archives

    Hi,
Webcenter Content version 11.1.1.5.0 running on Linux.
I have successfully (according to the archive logs) imported two Site Studio Backup Archives: Ravenna Hosting and Site Studio Samples.
I've not had a problem before with these archive files (installed successfully on my local Windows installation of 11g), but on our DEV server the Web Location path is incorrect.
Somehow the archive process has introduced the below directory structure:
    /mdaw/mdax/~edisp/
    Example expected location: .../groups/public/documents/wcmwebasset/oracle_logo_15h.png
    Imported location: .../groups/public/weblayout/groups/public/documents/wcmwebasset/mdaw/mdax/~edisp/oracle_logo_15h.png
    - The sites are visible but with broken images
    - The Site Studio Assets can be seen in Site Studio Designer
    - The Web Location path on all content items is incorrect and points to the wrong path
    - Archive has proven to work before (same physical file) and the path information within it appears correct
Copying the files results in the images appearing but obviously the Web Location defined within the content items is still incorrect.
Whilst Ravenna Hosting site looks OK after copying the files, the Site Studio Sample site is totally broken.
Obviously the underlying import issue needs to be resolved - has anyone come across the underlying issue (the insertion of an incorrect directory structure)?
Has anyone any advice on a solution so I can re-import the archive with the files being written to the correct Web Locations?
    Thanks in advance
    Edited by: user615721 on Aug 25, 2011 12:26 PM

The issue is the result of a new feature introduced in version 11.1.1.4.0 called the 'Dispersion Rule'.
All legacy archive will hit this in the future release, but there is a work-around documented here: http://blogs.oracle.com/ecmarch/entry/working_with_the_new_fsp_dispe

  • WebCenter Sites and UCM integration

    Hi,
Can any one help me to integrate WebCenter Sites with UCM.

There are a number of approaches to doing this, and it totally depends on the version of UCM you're using (and the version of Sites too for that matter).  Have a look at this presentation that Bex Huff and I gave at Collaborate last year.
