Site to site VPN timing out

I have a printer as the sole client on one end of a site-to-site VPN, and the tunnel times out. There is no ability to generate traffic from the printer, so I am looking for anyone that may have a solution to this problem.
Printer end - ASA5505
Other end - Cisco VPN router.
TIA !!
Dave

Hi Dave,
You can try enabling  IKE DPD  deap peer detection (Keepalives )  on the router , in ASA   is enable by default , Im not sure on the routers. This feature must  be enable on both ends to work.
Isakmp keepalive
http://www.cisco.com/en/US/partner/products/ps6120/products_tech_note09186a00807e0aca.shtml#solution07
http://www.cisco.com/en/US/partner/docs/security/asa/asa80/command/reference/i3.html#wp1842584
If the above does not do the trick you could try to snmp monitor the printer fomr the far end , if you have  a snmp  network monitoring tools such as Network Performance monitor or others out there  , and the printer supports SNMP you could  setup snmp monitoring . The snmp monitoring tool  pools regulartly from the device  on its  status  thus maintaining  your L2L tunnel up at all times while the printer is iddle.

  • Every time I try to open my TD Bank site I get a "timed out" message. This is the only site where this happens. Why?

I have been in touch with the bank support and they had me change the proxy setting and this helped once and then the problem returned.
I have gone paperless and I need to access these sites to run my business.
I work on a Toshiba laptop using Vista. This problem has only occurred in the last couple of months and I have been using this banking site for a few years.

  • 30EA1 Dead UI on timed-out connection

This version still has 2.11's "dead UI" behavior on a closed- or timed-out connection to the Oracle database.
I contend that fixing this behavior is more important than any new feature work. It's bad to waste a person's time, and that's what this behavior does. I'd guess recovery from a timed-out connection I just had took seven minutes.
Heaven forbid I should have to make coffee... ;-)

    What HWHC said.
    Environment:
    * Mac OS X 10.6.4.
    * SSL VPN over my cable modem to our campus network
    * Oracle 11R2 on SuSE
    * Connections panel is not "pinned," that is, I summon it by clicking a tab to the left of SD's window.
There are two, maybe three bad UI behaviors related to connectivity:
    * Dead UI (this thread): lost connection, time-out, lost network or VPN timed out. 2.11, 3.0EA1.
I simulated this scenario last night by:
    - Authenticate to the DB.
    - Open a package declaration.
    - Leave SD untouched until this morning (required wait time is much less than overnight).
    - At 6:36 this morning, close the editor window.
    - Summon the Connections panel (which still had the connection's schema open).
    - Click the connection name.
    - The UI froze: the esc key did not dismiss the Connections panel, no clicks were accepted, clicks in SD's menu changed the cursor to the beachball.
    - Do other work. At 6:44 I saw the connections panel finally close, and from then on I could work with it.
If you have time, you switch to another task; if you don't, you use OS X's Force Quit, like HWHC says, and potentially lose work. That's data loss.
Someone was so troubled by this behavior that s/he wrote a "keep alive" plugin. Obviously it's a risk to install a bit of code not vetted by Oracle, so I haven't tried the plugin. Clearly this isn't a rare phenomenon.
    * Bonking SQL editor in 30EA1, maybe 2.11:
    - Open connection
    - Open a package
    - Leave SD alone for maybe 10, 15 minutes.
    - Then navigate the open package. Attempts to type produce a "bonk" sound -- on the Mac, meaning "No."
    - Oddly, I can open other packages but still experience the bonk behavior.
    * Smaller annoyance in 2.11, 30EA1: Connections panel schema tree and its context menu get out of sync about connection status. An idled connection name might not offer a Disconnect menu option until you click another connection, then click again the active connection to get the disconnect option.

  • Urgent - Site to Site VPN - sequence of reply and timed out

We have a Site to Site VPN with another company that hosts an application server. If I setup a ping -r from my windows computer to their server i will received about 150 successful ping replies then 13 request timed out and this repeats endlessly. We have both triple checked our settings and are not aware of any changes at either end that was made.
Any help in troubleshooting would be greatly appreciated.
    Thanks
We have an ASA5505 and they have a Palo Alto product.

thanks for the two replies. Our ASA5505 does have a IPS module -
ASA 5500 Series AIP Security Services Card-5 ASA-SSC-AIP-5 but I have turned it off . This peer has two subnets and we have the issue pinging to hosts in both the subnets. The main issue is when we are connected to the application on their end we get disconnected after two minutes, the ping i am using as a test which validates we are having packet loss.
debug crypto isakmp 255 & debug crypto ipsec 255 show no issues and in adsm i select monitoring , logging debug and view i don't see anything specific blocking traffic when the pings time out.
    any other ideas/suggestions appreciated!
    thanks

Some Flash-based games can take more time than to load, so you may have to increase the timeout on crash protection. See [[The Adobe Flash plugin has crashed]].

    Hello darkhawk,
Thank you for the recommendation.  I somewhat understand what a MS DOS disk is, but I'm not sure how to go about creating one. I've seen where you can use a program, like Rufus, to create a usb one  - but I'm leery about using 3rd-party programs (especially ones I'm not familiar with). I've come across a couple of 'how-to' tuts, but they didn't clarify what files (if any) I would need to include on the disk (for my particular situation). Right now I don't have any blank cds, nor any extra flash/thumb drives - wish I did, but hadn't needed these for years. There has only been one other time where I needed to re-install Windows, but that was over 15 years ago - I did it through BIOS, reformatting my drives, and then reinstalled via the Windows XP disk. Windows 8 is an entirely different breed, which has left me feeling a bit stumped, at times. If there was a way I could perform it (successfully), similar to the first time I did it years ago, I'd give it a try - but at the same time, I'm a bit reluctant, because if it doesn't work, then I'm stuck without any internet access to get further help.
Ask and ye shall receive. This should be doable in Windows 7 and Windows 8 on another PC. I recommend using a USB Flash drive like in this tutorial, but I'm sure you could use something else.
If you want, you could also use Hiren's BootCD to make a bootable CD with many options and programs on it (I keep one, just for certain situations) that will allow you to do the same things.

Also very useful for sorting out virus's as long as it's downloaded and made on another PC that is virus free......

  • RDWeb Site Timing Out Seemingly Random

We have a local cloud environemt the three session hosts, two gateways, and three connection brokers for all sorts of load balance and fail resistance. We have a rather annoying random problem that is plaguing our end users.
The RDweb site is timing out at random intervals, some within 5 minutes and others with multiple hours. I have gone into IIS and set the timeout for both private and public to six hours but still some are timing out short. I have also set the sessions to
never end unless they are idle for 6 hours as well. Any ideas on a setting I overlooked?
I also looked at the gateway and make sure the Authorization polices were set to 6 hours as well for idle sessions.
    Server 2012 on all machines.

    Hi Matthew,
Thank you for posting in Windows Server Forum.
From when you are facing this issue?
Is there any latest update which you have done?
If that’s the case, then please restart the server for proper working.
Have you find any related Event log on the server side when this issue happens? If so, please let’s know the detail including the Event ID.
Please enable RD Keep Alives on your server and then restart it.  To do this logon to the server as an admin, Start-Run-gpedit.msc, in the left pane navigate to the following:
    Computer Policy\Computer Configuration\Administrative Templates\Windows Components\Remote Desktop Services\Remote Desktop Session Host\Connections
    Configure keep-alive connection interval, select
Enabled, change the Keep-Alive interval to 2 and Restart your server. After this check the connection and verify whether there is any difference.
    Hope it helps!
    Thanks.

  • Connection has timed out on my mac. I think my e-commerce site has been hack

It is really slow I get the same message for both. I own a Mac and have never had to change settings before like a firewall or connection issue. I can connect to any site accept my very own. Is this the work of a hacker?

Temporarily disabling the Anti-Virus/Firewall software on the computer should rectify the network connect timed out issue.

This message "The connection has timed out" only happens when i attempt to log on to my blackboard account for college. All other log in' work fine.
