Site-wide find and replace

Is it possible to do a site-wide find and replace on a site built using Portal?

It can't be done. The only way to edit your site's html pages is to do it after publishing them. They don't exist per se in iWeb, particularly the HTML snippets except what you're able to edit by clicking on them. But there is not global find and replace in a site, only within a page.
What are you needing to edit and change and why?

  • Find and Replace Across Multiple Sites

    Hi,
    Just wondering if anyone knows a way or a piece of software
    that enables you
    to Find and Replace code, text etc across multiple sites?
    I am using DWMX2004 and I can do it on a per site basis but
    not multiple
    sites at once.
    Any idea's???
    Thanks

    You don't have to define a site, Blue, just select a folder
    to search.

  • Find and Replace Issue Help Requested.

    Hi all. I've been digging around for a couple of days and
    can't seem to figure this one out. For starters, I have already
    looked at the Regular Expression syntax and tried the MS word
    clean-up option, but no luck. We have about 1,500 pages of content.
    They are in DNN, so the pages are created dynamically.
    Unfortunately, the page content was written in Word and then dumped
    in DNN. We are trying to clean up the pages. We are grabbing the
    content from Dot Net Nuke and putting it into Dreamweaver 8.0.2.
    Then we are manually cleaning out things like:
    <?xml:namespace prefix = o ns =
    "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:office" />
    and
    <P class=MsoNormal style="MARGIN: 0in 0in 0pt"
    align=left>
    We are using the Find and Replace funtion in Dreamweaver to
    clean out these commands, but I know from the documentation, there
    is an easier way to clean these pages.
    Bottom Line: Since the pages are dynamically built, I know I
    have to grab the page content and put it in Dreamweaver manually
    and then put it back in DNN, but I am trying to find a way (using
    Regular Expressions or something) to look for all the little
    variances of MSO, <?XML, etc. in a straight shot. I would like
    to find a way to use a wild card to look for all tags that have MSO
    or Microsoft or ?XML in them and then replace them with a null
    value. From what I can tell, the Find would have to use a wildcard
    because the advanced find features don't carry what I am looking
    for. Something like Find \<?xml * [<-wildcard] to \> to
    grab the entire tag. The Find tag command doesn't work because the
    tags I need aren't listed. Also, because the content is dynamic, I
    can't do a Fins and Replace against the entire site for these
    commands, but it would be nice to "Find" all of these items with a
    single pass since the "Replace" value is always null.
    The wildcard syntax and multiple Find instances are the main
    questions. The wildcards seem to be character or space specific.
    Sorry for the long explanation - I just don't want to waste
    anyone's time typing responses to things I've already tried to do.
    Thanks in advance for any help. This is my first time back in
    the forums in about 4 years.

    Glad that it did the trick. Just to help you understand what
    I did,
    there are two main sections, as follows:
    <\?xml[^>]+>
    and
    <[^>]+(?=class=Mso)[^>]+>
    They are separated by a vertical pipe (|), so they simply act
    as
    alternatives.
    The first one searches for <?xml followed by anything
    except a closing
    bracket until it reaches the first closing bracket.
    The second one is more complex. It begins with this:
    <[^>]+
    This simply looks for an opening bracket followed by anything
    other than
    a closing bracket. What makes it more intelligent is the next
    bit:
    (?=class=Mso)
    This does a forward search for "class=Mso". It's then
    followed by this
    again:
    [^>]+>
    That finds anything except a closing bracket followed by a
    closing bracket.
    The bit that you need to experiment with is (?=...). It's
    technically
    called a "forward lookaround". The effect is that the second
    half of the
    regex finds <....class=Mso....>.

  • Find and replace by text and style

    We have a fairly large RH HTML project (300+ topics so far)
    most of which have a specific heading in Heading2 style. We want to
    change all of these to a style based on Heading2, but not use the
    Heading2 style b/c we don't want them to show up in the TOC. I have
    created a new style and can obviously open every topic and manually
    select and change each one - but I'm hoping that one of your RH
    gurus will tell me an easier way. Is there anything comparable to
    MS Words Find/Replace that will search the whole project for a
    specific word in a specific style?

    RoboHelp's Multi-File Find and Replace (in the Tools tab)
    should be suitable for this job, and you can control each
    occurrence as you choose. (Where this RH utility fails is when your
    search string might sit on more than one line, which won't be the
    case here.)
    You'll run two replacement passes (spaces added to < &
    > tags for proper viewing in this forum):
    Replace < h2 > with < p class=YourNewStyle >
    Replace < /h2 > with < /p >
    The < h2 > and < /h2 > strings will never be
    split between lines, so RH will catch every one.
    BTW, Add me to the list of FAR boosters; it'll let you change
    case, change file names, etc., etc., etc. Great tool!
    Good luck,

  • Find and replace Dreamweaver mx 2004 problem: not opening saved queries

    Dreamweaver mx 2004 is not opening saved queries! I use find and replace often and uses to save code replacements to reuse
    it. But now when I open the saved query I have 2 situations:
    1) comes completely blank
    2) or only shows truncated text or code in fields.
    I opened the dwr file in text editor and seems to be fine, I mean information saved is there.
    Tried recreating cache, or deleting caché, tried saving new or overwritting existant ones, tried saving into a completely different location,
    tried in other site definition. Nothing seems to work...

  • Find and Replace text string in HTML

    Opps... I hope this forum is not just for Outlook. My Html files reside on my hard-drive. I am looking for VBA code to open specified file names ####File.html and then find and replace text strings within the html for example "####Name" replaced
    with "YYYYY"
    I drive the "####File.html" names and the find and replace text strings from an Excel sheet. I am an artist and this Sub would give me time to paint instead of find and replace text. Thank you!

  • Find and replace text in multiple Photoshop files?

    Hi there,
    Let us say I have six Photoshop files: 1.psd, 2.psd, ..., 6.psd. All of these files contain the word “LoremIpsum” in random text layers, within each document. Is there a way I can search for “LoremIpsum” in all documents and replace it with “Dolor Sit Amet”, all in one go? This is just an example, I need to replace various words, not just one.
    I have tried "batch find and replace" software (including powerful tools like Power Grep) but they do not work with psd files… Is there a javascript of external plugin for this kind of task?
    Thanks!

    You’re welcome, advice given here is free.
    If you want to donate something nonetheless you could do so over at

    Many of the same people used to contribute there as here and I for one have benefitted considerably from their generous advice on Scripting issues.
    A Script can read (or create) txt files, but I do not have a lot of experience with this.
    This might work (amend the line »var theTexts = readPref ("….txt", false);« according to your txt-file’s path):
    // replace text elements in type layers;
    // 2013, use it at your own risk;
    #target photoshop
    if (app.documents.length > 0) {

    function readPref (thePath, binary) {

        var theText = file.read();
        file.close();
        return String(theText).split(",")
    In this case the comma is used to split the text into Strings in Arrays, if your search/replace texts include commas you could use something else, I guess.

  • Find and replace characters in file names

    I need to transfer much of my user folder (home) to a non-mac computer. My problem is that I have become too used to the generous file name allowances on the Mac. Many of my files have characters such as "*" "!" "?" and "|". I know these are problems because they are often wild cards (except the pipe). Is there a way that I can do a find and replace for these characters?
    For example, search for all files with an "*" and replace the "*" in the file name with an "@" or a letter? I don't mind having to use the terminal for this (I suspect it will be easier).
    Is this possible? Does anyone have any suggestions?
    Thank you in advance for any help you may be able to provide.

  • Why does a find and replace method remove whitespace?

    I have method that searches for a string in a FM document and replaces it with a variable. If for example, there was a string foobar that I wanted to replace with the variable barfoo. Then, I expect this text:
    Lorem ipsum dolor sit amet, foobar consectetur adipiscing elit. Vivamus sed purus urna, ac tristique tortor. Nam auctor tellus non enim pulvinar a vestibulum neque tincidunt.
    To be changed to this text:
    Lorem ipsum dolor sit amet, barfoo consectetur adipiscing elit. Vivamus sed purus urna, ac tristique tortor. Nam auctor tellus non enim pulvinar a vestibulum neque tincidunt.
    However, while the text does do the replace it also removes the whitespace between the variable and the text that appears right after the variable so it actually looks looks like this:
    Lorem ipsum dolor sit amet, barfooconsectetur adipiscing elit. Vivamus sed purus urna, ac tristique tortor. Nam auctor tellus non enim pulvinar a vestibulum neque tincidunt.
    Why is the find and replace method removing the whitespace and how do I prevent that from happening? The method is provided below.
    function FindAndReplaceString(pDoc, findString, replaceVariable)
        if (typeof pDoc != 'undefined'&&typeof findString != 'undefined'&&typeof replaceVariable != 'undefined'&&pDoc.ObjectValid()&&findString.length>0&&replaceVariable.length>0)

                    var varLength = newVar.TextRange.end.offset - newVar.TextRange.beg.offset;
                    tr.beg.offset += varLength;
                    tr = pDoc.Find(tr.beg, findParams);

  • Enabling tabbing to controls on DW CS 4 Mac in Find and Replace

    I have used Dreamweaver on Windows for many years. I'm now working on the Mac.
    I have configured OS X Leopard for improved keyboard access to UI controls. This allows me to tab to dropdown (or popup) menu and use the keyboard to quickly select menu items. I realize this is a personal preference but personally I'm more productive this way. This setting affects the OS and appears to work in many applications. It doesn't appear to work in Dreamweaver CS4.
    I work on one PHP project that has hundreds of files. I routinely need to use Find and Replace to search in "Selected Files in Site" but often need to only search in "Current Document", so I'm routinely switching between these options. I'm also routinely toggle the "Use regular expression" option. On Windows I could change these settings without having to use the mouse. I could quickly tab (or shift-tab) from the "Find:" and "Replace:" text boxes to the "Find In:" and "Search:"  Dropdown Menus or the various "Options:" checkboxes, but find that one the Mac I have to use the mouse to change the dropdowns and checkboxes.
    Have I missed a Dreamweaver setting or a magic keyboard shortcut that would enable full keyboard access to DW's Find and Replace and other Dialogs?

  • Reformatting files in Dreamweaver: Batch series of .dwr files (find and replace) consecutively

    I have to do complicated reformatting of an entire site. It's been simplified to a series of find and replace tasks for each file. Each find and replace string has been saved as a .dwr file. Currently I have to load and execute each .dwr file.
    How do you batch process or automate this task in Dreamweaver? In other words, queue up a series of .dwr files to be executed consecutively?

    OK here we go.
    This example, a simple Dreamweaver  Command Extension, will execute two Find and Replace commands in one go. (It can be any number of Find and Replace commands.)
    The first command replaces "the" and "this" with "phe" and "phis". The second command replaces <ul> ... </ul> with <ol> ... </ol>. (These of course can be any Find and Replace.)
    You need two files: a HTML file (for the  UI) and a Javascript file (for actions). I named them "Find and Replace Test.html" and "Find and Replace Test.js". (They can be any name.)
    Find and Replace Test.html
    <!DOCTYPE HTML SYSTEM "-//Adobe//DWExtension layout-engine 10.0//dialog">
    <HTML>
    <HEAD>
    <Title>Find and Replace Test</Title>
    <script src="Find and Replace Test.js"></script>
    </HEAD>
    <BODY>
    <form>
         <p>Are you sure?</p>
    </form>
    </BODY>
    </HTML>
    Find and Replace Test.js
    function canAcceptCommand() {
        return true;
    function commandButtons() {
        return new Array("Go!", "doIt()", "Cancel", "window.close()");
    function doIt() {
        dreamweaver.setUpFindReplace({
            searchString: "th(e|is)",
            replaceString: "ph$1",
            searchWhat: "document",
            searchSource: true,
            useRegularExpressions: true
        dreamweaver.replaceAll();
        dreamweaver.setUpFindReplace({
            searchString: "<(/?)ul>",
            replaceString: "<$1ol>",
            searchWhat: "document",
            searchSource: true,
            useRegularExpressions: true
        dreamweaver.replaceAll();
        window.close();
    Basically you can call any number of this pair of functions in the script:
    dreamweaver.setUpFindReplace(findAndReplaceObject);
    dreamweaver.replaceAll();
    Place these HTML and JS files in this directory:
    Dreamweaver App Directory/Configuration/Commands/
    Then in Dreamweaver, open "Insert" window. (You need to have a HTML file open in order to make the Insert window active.) At the top of the Insert window there's a category dropdown menu  ("Common" etc.). Do alt + click (ctrl + click) - then you'll see an item "Reload Extenesions" at the bottom of the dropdown. This will load this extension to DW. (Alternatively you can restart DW to load the extension.)
    Now it's ready to run the Extension. Open a HTML document you want to modify. Go to "Commands" on the menu bar. At the bottom of the dropdown there should be an item "Find and Replace Test". Select and enjoy
    Notes
    This example is set to perform the Find and Replace on the current document. You can change the scope to the entire site, or the selected files, etc, just like in the Find and Replace dialogue box. The API doc is here: http://help.adobe.com/en_US/dreamweaver/cs/apiref/WS5b3ccc516d4fbf351e63e3d117f9e09bcf-7ed a.html
    You can use dreamweaver.setUpComplexFindReplace(xmlQueryString) command instead. xmlQueryString is basically <dwquery> ... </dwquery> in your .dwr files, you can copy from your .dwr files. However xmlQueryString needs to be one continuous string (no line breaks), which can be a pain The doc: http://help.adobe.com/en_US/dreamweaver/cs/apiref/WS5b3ccc516d4fbf351e63e3d117f9e09bcf-7ed 9.html

  • In Edge Code can i do a find and replace?

    In Edge Code can i do a find and replace on multiple lines of code or just a single line?

    You can't do it on just one type of file. However, you can do find and replace in selected files. Ctrl-click to select the targeted files in the Files panel, and then choose Selected Files in Site from the Find In drop-down.

  • Dreamweaver CC generates one of 3 error messages when using find and replace on Win 8.1 64 bit.

    Dreamweaver CC generates one of 3 error messages when using find and replace is used more than twice in succession. "While executing onLoad in bc_afterSave.htm, the following JavaScript error(s) occurred: At line 188 of file C:\Program Files (x86)\Adobe|Adobe DreamweaverCC|Configuration|Shared|BC\JS\bc_sites.js": out of memory"
    or
    While executing runCommand in File_Save.htm, a JavaScript erroroccurred.
    or
    While exciting getDynamicContent inAdressURL.htm, a Javascript erroroccirred.
    Any thoughts - I end up closing DWCC and reopening. Will work for two additional Find and Replace before the error messaged\s popup again.

    Thanks Jon. I tried all of those solutions before posting. Same problem. It seems that the problem is tied to DWCC. Do not have the problem when using DW6 on Win8.1. When running DWCC on a Win7 pc, we get the same error message. When running DW6 on Win 7, f&c works fine. It seems to be a bug in DWCC. DWCC works flawlessly on our Macs.
    The same steps apply to DWCC, you just need to choose the CC folders rather than the DWCS4-6 versions that the page talks about. The layout of CC's folders hasn't changed from the older versions which is why, I think, Adobe hasn't updated the troubleshooting page as of yet.
    As Nancy mentions, a 38,500 page site is sort of ridiculously large for a static website, that could be part of the problem, but your response quoted above leads me to think you may have tried the troubleshooting steps in the wrong version of the program. Could you confirm that?

  • Where is Find and Replace?!?

    I have been using DW 8 on my computer (Apple OS 10.4.11)
    successfully for about a year. Just this week the Find and Replace
    function stopped working. I can press Apple + F and I get nothing,
    no popup windows or anything. I can go to Edit>Find and Replace
    and I get nothing. If I go to Edit> Find Selection I get the
    popup window, but it doesn't have anything in it and I don't see a
    way to get the Find and Replace screen to popup from there. I have
    restarted my computer and DW several times. Anyone know how to fix
    this?

    Try this:
    1. in SiteManager, EXPORT the current site's definition.
    2. REMOVE the site.
    3. IMPORT the definition you just exported.
    Better now?
