Site wide update of navbar changes

I have a published website created in Dreamweaver mx2004. I
want to add new entries to the left navigation bar, which is a
multiple row, 1-column table. Is it possible to change it once and
have it take effect for every instance of the navbar in the site?
I'm hoping so as there are about 30-occurances of it and the
thought of manually changing each one is daunting. Thanks for any
help.

Use a template -
or better still server side includes
either way will involves some work, but next time you change

  • Custom masthead and navbar automatically update changes site wide?

    I'm using iWeb 1.12. I designed my site from scratch using a blank, white iWeb template. It's 1000 pixels wide. I made my own horizontal masthead which spans the full width of my site and below that a custom, thin, horizontal navbar the same width as the masthead made with just hypertext links. My site (and masthead and navbar) will always stay the same width.
    I know going forward I will want to update the masthead look and feel and add more links across my navbar. Is there a way to create a master page or master elements or something similar that will automatically update my masthead and navbar on all the sub pages when I make a change?
    How would something like this be accomplished?

  • DreamWeaver CS3 - How to excute a site wide change...

    I am using Dreamweaver (DW) CS3. I have updated a few pages
    which had the ending of .HTM. After the modification to the pages
    the ending of the file names were changed to .ASP. The pages work
    well in their test environment.
    OK, so the pages were known by the site with the file name
    extension of .HTM
    The file name extension is now .ASP
    How do I update very page in the site so that they no longer
    look for the old file name but the
    new name, which ends with the extension of .ASP?
    Thanks!
    Happy New Year!

    I would also suggest that you never rename your files like
    this outside of
    DW. By renaming them in DW's File panel, you allow DW to
    manage the links
    automatically.

    When I republish my site the updates save to a different folder within public_html so it cant be viewed..... How do I change this?
    My site is up and running but if i make changes on iWeb they get put in a new folder within the public_html folder. I then click on this and they are all showing in there but i have to manually move them to the correct folder for them to be shown on my website. The folder that is made is always named whatever I enter into the SITE NAME section on the screen where the ftp information is entered.
    How can I get the updates to go directly into the public folder without it make a new folder? I have checked the settings but there isn't much I can see.
    ALSO......
    The names of the folders come up in the domain bar... how do i change this?
    thanks

  • Changing font color site-wide??

    Hi,
    I am trying to change the color of my font and my links
    site-wide. Is there any easy way to do this?
    Thanks,
    David

    You would need to add those to a stylesheet that was linked
    to all the
    pages, not just in the head of a single document.... 8)

  • Strange problem with changing external links site-wide

    Hi, i'm having a problem that i just cant work out; i'll describe whats happening and would greatly apriciate any help anyone can give.
    when i type in an external/absolute link in dreamweaver sidewide change link function i keep getting a message saying it cant find any links with that name ("no links to.....found".
    i've tried creating a simple link in my index.html like http://google.com then searching for that so i know its there and dreamweaver still tells me that http://google.com, www.google.com, /google.com and every other variation i can think of doesnt exist. In addition to that when i search for broken links and click external links to try changing them there, the search function finds the links i'm looking for and lets me type in the new link i want but when i hit enter it reverts to the old link.
    at first i thought it was a problem with my copy of dreamweaver but i downloaded my site to a hard drive and tried on my uni computers copy of dw cs3 and cs4 with the same outcome.
    i have about 1000 of the particular link in my site that i need to change and really dont want to do this manually, if anyone could help i'd be extremely grateful.
    thanks, Andy

    note: although it seems straight forward i also followed youtube guides on defining my site and changing the links to make sure i hadnt missed something obvious.
    although it still maybe something obvious i just cant see it and i've been googling to find out if other people have had this problem but couldnt find anything

    Boy what a screw job when the program freezes in the middle of site wide folder name changes.
    Then you never know what did get changed or not until you wade thru every possible one.
    And you cant just redo change the folder name, cuz the folder name did change.
    Further, every attempt locks the program.

  • HTTP status code returned by site-wide error handler is 200 OK?

    I'm using a developer install of ColdFusion 11. I set up the following page at http://localhost:8500/test/index.cfm:
    <cfthrow type="application" message="This is an error">
    When I visit that page, the HTTP status code returned is 500, as expected.
    I then created the following page at http://localhost:8500/error.cfm:
    <p>Sorry! That was an error.</p>
    If I set the site-wide error handler in the CF Admin to /error.cfm and visit /test/index.cfm, the HTTP status code returned is 200 OK.
    This seems weird to me. It looks like I can include the following in the error.cfm file to send an error code instead:
    <cfheader statuscode="500" statustext="Server Error">
    Does anyone see that as problematic? Is there a reason why the site-wide error handler should return 200 OK?

    Error Codes are the responsibility of the developer, to define and broadcast. Ultimately, the ColdFusion server has acted appropriately and fulfilled the request (hence the 202). Only the code would know what error was truly thrown, and how to appropriately handle that message to the user, hence the need for you to change the header in the response, if you want that broadcast to the browser in anything of than a "successful request" type of status.

  • Site-wide media query file

    Let's say one has a style sheet for detail pages on one's website, say "detail.css", designed for desktop monitors.
      Now one creates a sitewide media query file, e.g., mq-detail.css
    which looks like this to refer to the tablet and phone style sheets:
    /* detail-tablet */
    @import url("detail-tab.css") only screen and (min-width:321px) and (max-width:768px);
    /* detail-phone */
    @import url("detail-phone.css") only screen and (max-width:320px);
    Then how does one refer to the desktop style sheet? If I simply use "detail.css" with a minimum width of 769px, then some browsers like IE8 will not reference any style sheet.
    Would this line in mq-detail.css   work:
    <!--[if lt IE 9]
    <link href="style_sheets/detail.css" rel="stylesheet" media="screen">
    <!endif]-->
    If the screen width is >768 px, will "detail.css" be used for all browsers: that is the goal.

    cma cma wrote:
    I understand the concept but it is unclear how to implement it. In what files does one put these two  lines?
    <link rel="stylesheet" href="css/global.css" type="text/css" media="screen"/>
    <link rel="stylesheet" href="css/mobile.css" type="text/css" media="screen"/>
    The links above go on every page of my site as they are needed. The global.css for desktop AND mobile. The mobile.css contains the media queries css which are used to change the css in the global.css file specifically for mobile devices.
    cma cma wrote:
    David Powers' excellent tutorial talks about a number of mobile query issues but he does not discuss using the Site-wide media query file. Do you and Nancy dispense with that step and put all your media queries and CSS links in every html page?
    There isn't any site wide media query file. That would be just a general css file that both  desktop and mobile share, in my view. You only change what is necessary for mobile devices in a dedicated media queries file or you can include them in the general css file.
    cma cma wrote:
    He also says:
    To ensure a level playing field with all devices that support media queries, just add the following line to the <head> of each web page:   #
    <meta name="viewport" content="width=device-width, initial-scale=1">
    Yes, that line of code needs to be present on all the website pages.
    cma cma wrote:
    Then Mr. Powers says to use "only"
    media="only screen and (min-width: 401px) and (max-width: 600px)"
    Havent read through the tutorial so can't really comment on that one only to say everyone has slightly different approaches to building pages. I tend to look at my design and see where it starts to break down then use media query break points based on that rather than any view port width.
    cma cma wrote:
    and finally:
    use an Internet Explorer conditional comment to serve a special set of rules to older versions of IE like this:   #
    <!--[if lt IE 9 & !IEMobile]> <link href="iestyles.css" rel="stylesheet" type="text/css"> <![endif]-->
    You can use an IE conditional comment IF that is whats needed to get IE8 to work with your design....depends what css you are using. The more advanced techniques will not work in older browsers.

  • CSS changes won't update, but HTML changes do

    So – for the sake of this question – please assume that my path to the CSS file is correct – and that I am uploading my files to the proper directory on the server (I have checked and double-checked and then double-checked again, as well as tested in various ways, so I know these things to be true).
    I have a site that I am making changes to. When I make changes to the CSS file, I cannot see my changes reflected in the pages, even though the time stamp on the server shows that the most up-to-date CSS file is there. If I put the path to the CSS file in a browser – it shows the old, unchanged, code. However – if I make changes to HTML files – the changes show up right away like normal. However – if I change the NAME of the CSS file (and update the HTML page with the new name) the changes show. But then the NEW CSS file exhibits the same odd behavior)
    Last night, I made changes like this that didn’t show. This morning, the changes ARE there, though I am experiencing the same problem of lack of immediate response.
    I’ve cleared my cache, I’ve rebooted, I’ve run an ipconfig /flushdns and i've used different browsers to check my work,
    Can anyone think of any reason that HTML changes would show up immediately, but CSS changes wouldn’t?
    Thanks…
    Dave

    Just a bit more evidence for this mystery:
    I uploaded all the relevant files to a completely different server - and everything acts just as it should. CSS changes update immerdiately, HTML changes update immediately. Strange...

  • Site not updating?

    I've created a site on iWeb which post to an ftp address. I made some changes, the pages show up red (to show changes have been made), and the Publish Site arrow at the bottom become accessible. However, when I go ahead and Publish nothing gets updated. It does go through the process, then pages turn back to blue and it says my site has been update, but it hasn't. Help! Thanks

    Have you cleared your cache in your browser?
    Sometimes the site is updated but your browser does not reload the new files.

  • JWS Desktop shortcut fails to update after JNLP change in 1.6.0 update 18

    Has anyone else noticed the desktop shortcut fail to update after a change to the JNLP with the latest Java 1.6.0 update 18 release?
    Here are the steps we've found to replicate the issue on Windows XP, Vista, and Windows 7 using both IE and Firefox:
    1) Download a JWS application and allow the desktop link to be created
    2) Inspect the desktop shortcut and notice the path to the JNLP cache entry
    3) Modify the JNLP at the server
    4) Run the application via the desktop link - at this point the application will download updates and execute without issues.
    5) Close the application - upon close, JWS will remove the old JNLP cache entry if the JNLP contained the security/all-permissions directive
    6) Inspect the desktop shortcut again - notice that the path to the JNLP cache entry will remain unchanged
    7) Launch the application again using the desktop link - JWS will fail with a cache exception if the JNLP contained the security/all-permissions element or will just run from the old JNLP
    I've submitted a bug but just wanted to confirm that others are encountering the same issue.
    Thanks,
    Troy

    Thanks for confirming.
    This issue seems to continually creep into the Java releases. In the 1.6.0 releases, the issue is resolved in update 7 through update 11. Update 12, 13, and 14 all had various JNLP issues but I did find this specific issue with update 14. It was fixed again in update 15 and remained fixed through update 17.
    I submitted two bugs and provided a simple sample application on our production site to use for testing with a url to update the last modified time. If bug is accepted, I'll post it here for others to vote for a fix.

  • Multiple windows open in safari when click on web site.  Also can't change/edit DNS servers or any other changes in advance window of network tab

    macbook pro
    osx - mavericks
    multiple windows open in safari when click on web site.  Also can't change/edit DNS servers or any other changes in advance window of network tab.
    Basically every time i click on website other windows open and get redirected to other websites selling something (same as that mackeeper site which seems to open often)  Really ***** as in just a few minutes on the web I have many windows open and many are the same pages.  Can't make changes in the advanced tab of network as options are greyed out and the + & - symbols do nothing when clicked.  Hope there is an easy answer as surfing net is really sucking right now

    I hope to get some more info on a similar situation.
    I have a new Mac Pro, less than 2 months old. OSX 10.5 updated to 10.5.2. Quicktime updated too. When I use the Desktop and Screen Saver system pref, I can easily select and use one of the Apple supplied desktop pictures as a desktop background.
    But I wish to use a Photo from an iPhoto (iLife 08) folder / album as the desktop background. I can find all the albums, I can see all the icons for the pictures, I can select an iconed pciture and it appears in the top left of the preference pane (showing the effect of "fit to window" or "stretch to fit", etc). But all I get is a pale blue screen (which might be my default desktop colour). I don't get any of my iPhoto album pics to appear as a dektop background.
    There is one minor note on this, I don't keep the pictures in my iPhoto Library, I just reference them, and the originals are on a different internal disk.
    I've tried the suggestions above, trashing finder and desktop plists, killall Finder, etc. restart. Nothing gets it working again. It did work originally, for most of the time I've had the Mac Pro, then I changed the dektop to an Apple supplied picture of Earth.
    This affects both an Admin, and a standard user. The photos (and enclosing folders) are read / writable by the admin user, and readable by the Standard user. Both users can easily access the photos in their iPhoto. They open the original files on the second internal drive, and performing a right click - Show File shows the original file as expected. I've even emptied the iPhoto library completely and rebuilt it, just in case there was an issue here.
    Any ideas ? or anyone else seen this ? I don't really want to start reformatting disks and reinstalling the OS, but any suggestions short of this are extremely welcome.

  • Help adjusting content margin, on a site-wide template using goodwebby

    Hello, i am having trouble adjusting page margin on my website.
    This is only happening within my site-wide inner template.
    Only pages via  menu. Such as Get a quote, Contact us, all the product catagorys ect..
    The home page runs on its own template and its fine.
    thank you.

    It looks like the whole right section is not sitting in the correct DIV.
    It needs to be inside 'main_container_inner' otherwise it's floating to the right of the entire page.
    I would say whichever template your using on those pages needs an update.
    Cheers,

    Deutschy,
    If you actually have a local copy of the site, you can do a Validate Entire Local Site right in Dreamweaver, though you might actually want to Validate Selected Files, if you have that many pages!
    That will show you file and line numbers and what the errors are, for everything it turns up.
    Within the Validation Results Window, you can double click on an error citation to open the file and highlight the code error.
    That's the beauty of working within Dreamweaver to Validate..instant access to the code you need to change.
