Site will not display in safari

Hi There,
This URL quite often doesn't load in Safari: www.svelte.net.nz - if it does load, click a link from the navigation and the next page will be blank.
However, if you click and drag, you see a grey frame that can be dragged, and once you let go, the page loads.
This site loads every time in Firefox & Opera for Mac and PC and IE 6 & IE 7 for PC.
All the ISP URL cloaking code seems to be valid (http://validator.w3.org/) but there is a page error (iWeb) according to the W3 validator. Here is the error:
This page is not Valid XHTML 1.0 Transitional!
Below are the results of checking this document for XML well-formedness and validity.
Error Line 85 column 29: required attribute "action" not specified.
<form id="search"></form>
The attribute given above is required for an element that you've used, but you have omitted it. For instance, in most HTML and XHTML document types the "type" attribute is required on the "script" element and the "alt" attribute is required for the "img" element.
Typical values for type are type="text/css" for <style> and type="text/javascript" for <script>.
I've rung Apple in Australia and although they experience the same issue, they're practically useless when it comes to suggesting a fix. This is an extremely frustrating issue where Mac users cannot view our site.
The amount of crap we receive from PC users is annoying. They suggest a change to the switch ads where although Mac is cool and funky, he's actually an idiot who can't read or write.
Could someone please point me in the right direction or help me fix this issue? I've been waiting since November hoping for a Safari update fix.

Ben --
Your site opens fine (albeit a little slower than usual)
in both Safari & Camino here.
Have you done all these yet?
Do these & report back, OK ?
1. Empty your cache & History settings via the Safari menu
2. Trash your Icons Folder:
HD>Users>Home>YourName>Library>Safari -->Icons
Restart Safari and a new folder will be automatically regenerated.
(This folder saves favicons of all the sites you visit. Needs cleaning periodically -- or you can change that file's preferences to "Read Only"
rather than "Read & Write." This will keep it from growing in size.)
3. Launch Font Book and check all fonts for duplicates. A duplicated font will have a bullet beside the font family and you can resolve duplicates by selecting the font and at the menu bar, go to Edit > Resolve Duplicates.
Do this for each font with a bullet next to it.
If you're still having problems:
4. Shut down your computer . . . unplug the computer, modem, and router, if you have one. Let everything sit for 2-3 minutes. Plug everything back in, start up your modem & router, then restart your computer.
5. Run YASU -- It's free, and will clean up old caches, etc.

  • Flash site will not run with Safari on a Mac

A friend has helped me to develop a simple web site in Flash
which I use to manage my photo galleries, which are created with
Lightroom or Photoshop. I am familiar with most of Adobe CS3 except
Flash or Dreamweaver, but I can get by with just editing text and
uploading new galleries, so the site works really well for me.
Unfortunately I have received feedback from people using
Safari or Camini browsers and the Mac OS that the site will not
open. They just see black and the message "Get Flash". The site
works great on a PC using both I Explorer and Safari.
I have no knowledge of how to overcome this problem and not
having access to a Mac, no way to "fiidle about" and experiment. I
would very much appreciate some advice from anyone in the know. The
web site is at www.duncangrove.com . Please have a look at my pics
    if you check it out!
    Regards
    Duncan Grove
(Apologies - I previously posted this in the wrong
    forum)

    Hi Duncan,
In the Publish Settings window, in the HTML tab, at the top
of the window under the "Template" option is a second option:
"Detect Flash Version". Check this box. The AC_RunActiveContent.js
file will contain a couple of functions that will test the user's
plugin version. If it doesn't pass the test then the html page will
show a message telling the user to get the Flash plugin and a link
    to the plugin.

  • Site does not display in Safari

Trying to view a website that displays fine in FireFox and IE, but appears blank when viewed in Safari. Any suggestions, ideas?
    http://www.casasmith.com/Web/Form/Vikings/Default.aspx

I would say that it does not display in Safari because it is not standard html document. The errors shown in the W3C Validator, especially the first one, indicate they are using proprietary Microsoft extensions. The fact that the page was created using "Microsoft Visual Studio .NET 7.1" bolsters this view. Safari is the least forgiving of browsers that are not written to the HTML/XHTML standards.

  • Top sites will not save in Safari

I've tried to change a couple of my top sites in Safari. I'll pin them as permanent, but if I quit safari or restart my computer a couple of sites will be replaced. I've tried to troubleshoot the problem through some info in the discussion board, but have not had any luck. I was able to clear out all of my top sites by deleting the topsite.plsit file and resaved all of the top sites I wanted. Yet, I'm still having this issue. Any suggestions?
    Thanks!

    Safari
Click Safari in the menu bar and select "Reset Safari".
In the window that opens up select "Top Sites" and click "Reset" button at the bottom.
    Best.

  • Pdf will not display in safari

the pdf file will not open on safari

    Hi Carolyn,
I am experiencing the same symptoms as gaijindragonslayer described above, and my Internet Plug-ins folder is empty. I would like to have Preview as my default pdf reader, but am unable to view a pdf in Safari at all right now -- I have to download the pdf and then open it with Preview separately in order to view it.
    What else might cause this?
    Thanks for your help.

  • Some (non-mobile) sites will not fit in safari window, refresh needed

    Hi,
Like the title says many sites when I first load them on my phone will only fit about a third of the site in the Safari window, requiring me to either pan horizontally left and right in order to view the content, otherwise I'd have to refresh the site and finally the whole thing fits in the Safari window. I'd assumed this was a Safari/iPhone issue but it has come to my attention that not everyonemay be experiencing this.
I logged on to iTunes last week and was told I had the latest iPhone software. Any hints fo me on what I could do to fix this??

My initial response was gee buddy but you just described my problem!! . But I thought to try out what you said. At first, copying and pasting the link simply yielded the same results. So then I decided to work on the formatting. Here's what the original link looks like, if you press and hold down on the "standard" link and then copy:
    http://fatwallet.mobi/save_settings.php?viewMobile=0&from=%2Fforums%2Ftopic.php% 3Fthreadid%3D978427&to=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.fatwallet.com%2Fforums%2Ffinance%2F97842 7
So I deleted out all the stuff before www.fatwallet.com, and changed all the "%2F" to "/", and that worked. So now one of three things will happen, in order of likelihood, most likely first:
    1) I'll do the copy and paste thing to avoid having to reload the site to get it to display properly
    2) When I forward the info to the content owners, they may modify the link so it works properly.
    3) Since this happens with a number of sites, Apple may be gracious enough to supply a fix (told you it was in order of likelihood )
The reason I primarily use the mobile site is it loads efficiently and suits my needs most of the time. Only so often do I need features from the main site so even when I'm on the Edge network I'll tough it out and wait for the site to load. How disappointing when it doesn't load properly

    hi:
i tried the basic "hello world" thing in html in textedit, and the same thing happened: it showed the html but not the webpage. i also dragged the .html file over to the safari icon in the dock with the same results.
i don't have a good answer as to why html written in textedit is doing this. maybe its the way textedit handles the underlying stuff, like ms word.
or it could be the way safari and ie parse file written in textedit.
go to http://www.barebones.com/ and download textwrangler. it's free, and html coded in textwrangler acts right in safari.

    Try a different DNS server.
Open System Preferences > Network. Click Advanced then select the DNS tab.
Click + then type in this address:

Click + again and type in this address:

    Click OK.
Quit and relaunch Safari. See if you can access that url.
    I could without a problem.

  • Favicon on MobileMe web site won't display with Safari - OK with Firefox

I have a web site published to MobileME using iWeb - I have added a favicon and updated HTML accordingly. Now after trying every combination of code and searching the Safari, iWeb and MobileMe forums I cannot figure out why my favicon will not display using Safari but will with just about every other browser (Firefox, IE, Netscape are the ones I've tried on a Windows PC - also won't dispaly using Safari for Windows). Any ideas???
I've put the favicon file in the web.me.com/pat.schafer/web/sites folder as well as the web.me.com/pat.schafer/web/sites/sitename folder and added the HTML ref code to every html file - I'm going crazy.

Hi Certified - tried your tips to no avail. I'm beginning to think it's some interaction (bug??) when using a site published to MobileMe (and iWeb?) and Safari. Note I also tried using Windows Safari on a PC which had never viewed the site and it still showed the Apple favico but as previously stated Firefox, and IE on this PC did show my favicon. (I have not tried to load Firefox on my iMac but may try this as well.) I'd try the Apple Support Center but I don't hold up much hope of their being able to assist - I was at the Genius Bar yesterday in the Sydney shop on another matter (broken mouse) and asked about this favicon issue and was told it was beyond the scope of what they can assist with.
Hello Old Toad - thanks anyway for the tip on the OVI slideshow - also thanks to your earlier tips on using OVI I did know about the trick of using a transparent shape but had got around to doing this - I'm still in the early stages of learning using iWeb ... the site in question is just a bit of a "sandbox". In fact I'm pretty much on my way to a bookshop to get a book an HTML and other web design technologies - clearly one must really understand the underlying technology to make these things work.

  • Safari will not display flash sites

safari will not display flash sites?  Instead it will show a small box that says "flash" and once you click on it, it then displays the flash site!!
Any ideas as to why this is happening?
    I am running .....
    Vendor: Oracle Corporation
Version: Java SE 7 Update 25
    and
    Flash Player: 11.8.800.94

From the Safari menu bar, select
    Safari ▹ Preferences ▹ Extensions
Turn all extensions OFF and test. If the problem is resolved, turn extensions back ON and then disable them one or a few at a time until you find the culprit.
If you wish, you may be able to salvage the malfunctioning extension by uninstalling and reinstalling it. Its settings will revert to their defaults. If the extension still causes a problem, remove it permanently or refer to its developer for support.

  • Unable to go any https site using FF and safari. Mac OS 10.6.7. Https sites are not displayed at all.

I was able to do all https sites before.  Recently I have notied that whenever I go to any https site , the site is not displayed at all.
    FF 4.0.1  and safari
e.g. go to www.skype.com and click on login link
    can't login to FB
    Can't display https://mail.yahoo.com
funny thing is  I can't even go to  http://www.apple.com
I get blank page and the browser keeps spinning.
    Cleared all cache.
    Pl. help.
thank you so much for your help.

Those sites display correctly provided they supply HTTPS. Which Yahoo does (HTTPS) and Apple doesn't on their main page (it's HTTP), but the forums here are HTTPS.
    Go to your KeyChain Access.
Under Preferences > Certificates set the following
    1: Best Attempt
    2: Best Attempt
    3: OCSP
    Reboot the machine.
When you request a secure site it will check the certificates immediately instead of using Apple's outdated lists which require Apple to include them in a Software Update.
If someone is using these outdates certificates maliciously then that's likely the problem.
Also install the  HTTPS Everywhere Add-on for Firefox, to ask websites to provide HTTPS. They always can't do it because of third party unencrypted content.
Also when that's finished. Run all the cleaning and maintenance aspects of the free OnyX and reboot (you can cancel reboots in between jobs)
Does a good job of cleaning out gremlins.

  • Safari will not display pdf files since installing OS 10.8.2

Safari will not display pdf files uner Lion 10.8.2

    Back up all data.
Triple-click the line of text below to select it, the copy the selected text to the Clipboard (command-C):
    /Library/Internet Plug-ins
    In the Finder, select
    Go ▹ Go to Folder
from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-G. Paste into the text box that opens (command-V), then press return.
From the folder that opens, remove any items that have the letters “PDF” in the name. You may be prompted for your login password. Then quit and relaunch Safari, and test.
The "Silverlight" web plugin distributed by Microsoft can also interfere with PDF display in Safari, so you may need to remove it as well, if it's present.
If you still have the issue, repeat with this line:
    ~/Library/Internet Plug-ins
If you don’t like the results of this procedure, restore the items from the backup you made before you started. Relaunch Safari again.
