Site Works on Firefox, not on Safari

This old website:
http://commtechlab.msu.edu/Sites/aslweb/browser.htm
uses an embedded QuickTime video in frames.
The video works on Firefox, but it doesn't appear at all on Safari.
Could I maybe have Safari configured wrong?

Works fine for me too.
Could I maybe have Safari configured wrong?
Maybe.
These are the downloads and the settings you need in order to view/hear pretty much everything that the net can throw at you: The setup described below has proved repeatedly successful on both PPC and Intel macs, but nothing in life carries a guarantee!
Assuming you already run OS 10.4.9 or above and have Quicktime 7.2, and are using Safari 2 or 3, download and install (or re-install even if you already had them) the latest versions, suitable for your flavor of Mac, of:
RealPlayer from http://uk.real.com/player/
Flip4Mac WMV Player from http://www.microsoft.com/windows/windowsmedia/player/wmcomponents.mspx (Windows Media Player for the Mac is no longer supported, even by Microsoft)
Perian from http://perian.org/
Adobe FlashPlayer from http://www.adobe.com/shockwave/download/download.cgi?P1ProdVersion=ShockwaveFlash
In Quicktime Preferences, under advanced, UNcheck Enable Flash, and under Mime settings/Miscellananeous only check Quicktime HTML (QHTM).
In Macintosh HD/Library/Quicktime/ delete any files relating to DivX (Perian already has them).
Important: Now repair permissions and restart.
The world should now be your oyster!
You should also have the free VLC Player from http://www.videolan.org/ in your armory, as this plays almost anything that DVD Player might not.

  • IWeb site loads in Firefox, not in Safari

    I've got iWeb 1.0 and until recently, I've had no problems publishing. Now my friends tell me that my site's been down for a couple weeks now. It seems to be Safari specific. I can view it on my Mac in Firefox, but not Safari. My husband can view it on his PC in Firefox and IE and Safari for Windows. My friend can't view it and she has a MacBook and uses Safari. Safari just gets hung up and keeps trying to load the page. What's going on?

    I am a little bit smarter now:
    When I use the full url, it is working in Safari and Chrome too.
    http://www.jaspergranderath.com/Cinematographer/Home.html
    This wasn't neccessary earlier...
    How do I manage that people can access my site with just going for

  • Added a spry menu bar and site works in firefox but not in chrome or IE.  Please help

    Hello,
    I'm a photographer by trade and have only picked up enough web design knowledge  in order to build a website that isn't distracting to my photographs and is simple to update and mantain.  Please breakdown any answers to my questions in very simple terms.
    To start off here is a link to my site for reference.  www.cechternach.com
    1.  My Biggest problem right now is that my site works in firefox but appears as a blank white page in chrome and in IE it only shows my background color.
         I'm assuming that this has something to do with the spry menu bar I added.  The galleries, banner, and footer were all part of a previous version of this website that didn't use the menu bar.  I actually used png's exported from an illustrator as buttons.  I've been wrestling with this menu bar for a few days now.  I had an issue with the menubar forcing down the gallery below it.  that was fixed by changing a position value from relative  to absolute in the menubar css.  Then I couldn't see the submenu over the galleries.  I think I fixed that with a wmode change but I"m not sure if I did that right.  I believe i needed to change that in the object and embed part of the code.  One spot for certain browsers and the other spot for other browsers.  I was a little confused on this because i also read that i needed to change the wmode in the javascript file in dreamweaver cs4 which is what i'm using.  Whatever wmode I changed it seemed to work in firefox.  The submenu background was showing up transparent but i fixed that in the menubar css.
    2.  I would like the submenu's to have a semi transparent blurred background effect.  Is this possible with a spry menu bar?
    3.  How do I center my text in the submenu?
    4.  My menu bar buttons should be the same font as my name in my banner.  It looks fine on my computer that has that font loaded but on other computers I was testing the site on the menubar buttons show up as a default font.  How can i fix this?
    5.  Is there any way to get rid of the grey lines that show up around my slideshow pro galleries and menu bar buttons when they are clicked?
    The last four questions aren't as important as the first one.  I may be upsetting the flow of the forum as well.  Please let me know if I'm not following procedure with any of my questions.  Feel free to point out any other problems you see with my page.  I'm trying to learn this as I go.  Thanks in advance.

    Spry widgets, which includes the SpryMenuBar, in their original state do not pose any problem in any browser!
    Widgets contain two parts
    JavaScript which drives the widget
    CSS which styles the widget to individual tastes
    The most common reason for a widget to misbehave especially in IE is because the inexperienced web developer has upset the delicate balance of the CSS. I say delicate, because in the original, great care has been taken by the Spry team to ensure cross browser compatibility.
    There are other reasons why a whole page can misbehave. In these cases, the culprit should be sought outside of the Spry framework.
    When trouble shooting, I would first of all comment out all of the Spry Spry parts and test the page in IE. If it does work after that, then yes come back here and we will have a look at the SpryMenuBarHorizontal.css for you.
    If it doesn't work after disabling Spry, then have a look at the coding and the CSS for your page and fix that.
    I hope this helps.

  • MozCancelFullScreen() not working and firefox not exiting fullscreen even though this function was called on document

    I have a container which gets into full screen mode using mozRequestFullScreen() API but I want to get back to non-fullscreen mode after one of my custom event is fired.
    As soon as my custom event is fired, I call mozCancelFullScreen() API to exit full screen but this seems to be not working. Firefox is not exiting fullscreen even though this function was called on document.
    I have to press "Esc" to get into non-fullscreen mode.
    I am uding Firefox 21.0 version.

  • Flash site works locally but not online (uploaded to server)

    We have bought a flash portfolio template and have customized it with our pictures, video, etc.
    When we test it locally on our computer (using different web browsers) it all works perfectly well. We have uploaded the finished website to our server and when you go to the address online, it doesn't work (a loader progress shows but it is stopped and nothing happens).
    We have however uploaded the original template we bought and it works perfectly online.
    The template consists of and index.html, various .swf, and various .xml that we have modified according to the template instructions (it also contains a java script folder we haven't touched).
    What is it wrong with our modified template - it works locally without problem…!
    Thanks for your help

    When a Flash file works locally but not on-line, it's almost always a pathing issue (provided you did upload ALL files and do not have something missing... as suggested by Ned).
    A "pathing issue" results when the main .swf cannot find one or more of the associated Flash files...like an xml file or images.
    It can be something as simple as using switching file names to all lower case. Local machine is not case sensative... most servers are. So "My Photo.JPG" is not the same as "my_photo.jpg". When naming files, best to use all lower case, no spaces in any file or folder names... use_underscore_instead.
    But the most common cause is that those associated files (xml, images, etc.) are not pathed relative to the Web page where the main .swf is embedded. Pathing to the .xml and image files should be as though the .swf was located in the same folder as the Web page... NOT the actual location of the .swf file.
    And that includes paths to the xml file and paths to image files coded into those xml files. Everything need to be coded relative to the Web page.

    In your css file delete - @charset "UTF-8"; /* CSS Document */ - after the 'container' css PLUS you have an extra } before the start of you 'table' css, delete that as well and see if things get better.

  • Safari won't display my site, works with Firefox

    Hi
    For some reason safari does not load my website. It shows an entirely white page with nothing on it. However the site has no problems being viewed by Firefox and IExplorer in both Mac and PC systems.
    Please take a look - http://www.ladyofmann.com this page loads and when you click on "gallery" link the page opens with nothing on it.
    The pages is all simple HTML
    Thank you

    ooh it's not quite simple I reckon....
    a whole lotta errors ( see here )
    & a quick fiddle with the page code shows that safari renders the page ok'ish ( hmm, no slideshow tho' ) if the
    <style type="text/css">

    body {
    background-color: #FFFFFF;
    </style>
    near the beginning is removed, dunno why yet, it's 1/4 past midnight & wine clouds my mind , but I suspect it's just err rubbish xhtml & fixing the errors and/or using html ( & relevant doctypes etc etc )if that's easier, will sort it out. Safari tends to be unforgiving of code errors, see?

  • Flash app works properly in IE / Firefox, not in safari

    This is a flash app I designed for our career center at UNR, and its not working properly in safari.
    The TV towards the bottom is the app. When you click on an image it is supposed to take you to the corresponding companies webpage.
    It works fine in IE, Firefox, and Firefox for mac, but it crashes safari for windows, and on safari for mac, the logos and links are out of sync and I cant figure out why. Any help is appreciated, thanks!

  • Spry Menu bar 2.0 from Widget Browser only works in Firefox, not other browsers

    Hello,
    I have downloaded and customized the Spry Menu Bar 2.0 from Adobe Widget Browser.
    I have made a seemingly functionable horizonatl navigation bar that will be displayed on all of my website's pages.
    While in live view in Dreamweaver and when I preview the page in FireFox the entire navigation bar works and displays perfectly.
    However, when I preview the page in another browser, like Safari, the navation does not display and shows up as an ordered list. I have tried a couple of fixes with no success. I have also spent some time searching the forums for an asnwer, but more commonly I find that people have problems with the spry menu functioning in Firefox while I have the exact opposite problem.
    Please help!  I'm to have this website completed by the end of next week!
    Thank you!!

    Hi John,
    Thanks, however, my site is still only on my local computer and not live or on a testing server yet. I could copy and paste my code in, I thought that may be cumbersome, but here goes :

    /* Settable values for skinning a Basic menu via presets. If presets are not sufficient, most skinning should be done in
        these rules, with the exception of the images used for down or right pointing arrows, which are in the file SpryMenuBasic.css
         These assume the following widget classes for menu layout (set in a preset)
        .MenuBar - Applies to all menubars - default is horizontal bar, all submenus are vertical - 2nd level subs and beyond are pull-right.
        .MenuBarVertical - vertical main bar; all submenus are pull-right.
        You can also pass in extra classnames to set your desired top level menu bar layout. Normally, these are set by using a preset.
        They only apply to horizontal menu bars:
            MenuBarLeftShrink - The menu bar will be horizontally 'shrinkwrapped' to be just large enough to hold its items, and left aligned
            MenuBarRightShrink - Just like MenuBarLeftShrink, but right aligned
            MenuBarFixedLeft - Fixed at a specified width set in the rule '.MenuBarFixedLeft', and left aligned.
            MenuBarFixedCentered -  - Fixed at a specified width set in the rule '.MenuBarFixedCentered',
                            and centered in its parent container.
            MenuBarFullwidth - Grows to fill its parent container width.
        In general, all rules specified in this file are prefixed by #MenuBar so they only apply to instances of the widget inserted along
        with the rules. This permits use of multiple MenuBarBasic widgets on the same page with different layouts. Because of IE6 limitations,
        there are a few rules where this was not possible. Those rules are so noted in comments.

    /* IE6 rules - you can delete these if you do not want to support IE6 */
    /* A note about multiple classes in IE6.
    * Some of the rules above use multiple class names on an element for selection, such as "hover" (MenuItemHover) and "has a subMenu" (MenuItemWithSubMenu),
    * giving the selector '.MenuItemWithSubMenu.MenuItemHover'.
    * Unfortunately IE6 does not support using mutiple classnames in a selector for an element. For a selector such as '.foo.bar.baz', IE6 ignores
    * all but the final classname (here, '.baz'), and sets the specificity accordingly, counting just one of those classs as significant. To get around this
    * problem, we use the plugin in SpryMenuBarIEWorkaroundsPlugin.js to generate compound classnames for IE6, such as 'MenuItemWithSubMenuHover'.
    * Since there are a lot of these needed, the plugin does not generate the extra classes for modern browsers, and we use the CSS2 style mutltiple class
    * syntax for that. Since IE6 both applies rules where
    * it should not, and gets the specificity wrong too, we have to order rules carefully, so the rule misapplied in IE6 can be overridden.
    * So, we put the multiple class rule first. IE6 will mistakenly apply this rule.  We follow this with the single-class rule that it would
    * mistakenly override, making sure the  misinterpreted IE6 specificity is the same as the single-class selector, so the latter wins.
    * We then create a copy of the multiple class rule, adding a '.SpryIsIE6' class as context, and making sure the specificity for
    * the selector is high enough to beat the single-class rule in the "both classes match" case. We place the IE6 rule at the end of the
    * css style block to make it easy to delete if you want to drop IE6 support.
    * If you decide you do not need IE6 support, you can get rid of these, as well as the inclusion of the SpryMenuBarIEWorkaroundsPlugin.js script.
    * The 'SpryIsIE6' class is placed on the HTML element by  the script in SpryMenuBarIEWorkaroundsPlugin.js if the browser is Internet Explorer 6. This avoids the necessity of IE conditional comments for these rules.

         Directed by Rainer Beckmann, the Pennsylvania Academy of Music's Early Music Program provides opportunities for students to learn more about historical performance practice. The program's current activities focus on the school's Early Music Ensemble, made up of enthusiastic amateur musicians performing on recorders and violas da gamba. The recent donation of a two-manual harpsichord will allow the program to include special Baroque ensemble lessons in the near future. In addition, individual Academy students will have the possibility to be accompanied on an instrument regularly used in music of the 17th and 18th centuries. The class meets 1 hour per week.

  • Broken page links: works in Firefox not IE

    Before I jump in the river . . . I have put up sites with 70+ pages but this defeats me. I am building a titchy 5 page site (not yet uploaded) all from same template. There are no broken links. On preview everything works fine in Firefox but not in IE: I cannot get off the Home Page. I have rebuilt cache, and validation of template shows no errors. Any ideas you clever people please?
    The navbar code couldn't be simpler (it is of course in the locked area).
    <div id="navBar">
        <a href="../index.html">Home</a>      |
        <a href="../howToFindUs.html">How to find us</a> |
        <a href="../terms.html">Terms</a> |
        <a href="../testimonials.html">Testimonials</a> |
        <a href="../petSitting.html">Pet sitting</a> |
        <a href="../contactUs.html">Contact us</a><br />
      </div>

    Nancy, thanks for that, but endlessly fiddling around I seem to have just cracked it. How – or why – I do not know. On the index page I have a 90sec .flv. To preview I have "Mark of the Web" clicked, which always sounds a bit creepy. The video is there and plays of course but I can't shift off the Home Page. If I preview from another page then all the other pages are accessible OK but when I land on the index then I'm stuck (but only with IE nor FFx).
    However . . . if I open the Template and add "Mark of the Web" even though a message pops up saying DW can't accept it and will be discarded, by some mysterious spell unknown on this (civilised) side of The Pond, it seems to clear the problem and all is hunky dory.
    Life is full of mysteries.

  • Works with firefox not internet explorer

  • GetElementById from parent works for Firefox not  for IE

    I am trying to access an element in my Edge Animate animation (which is a menu bar) from the parent document.  The element has an onClick event which is triggered depending on the #bookmark in the URL of the parent web page.  My code works perfectly in Firefox but does not work in Internet Explorer(10).  IE is unable to see any elements within the 'Stage' div whereas Firefox can.
    This is the JavaScript code on my parent page: -
    <script language='javascript'>
          var thisPage = window.location.pathname;
          var fullurl = document.URL;
          var xxx = fullurl.substring(fullurl.indexOf('#'));
          var pageString = xxx.replace("#", "");
          pageString = pageString.replace("http://www.mydomain.com/portfolio/photography.html", "");
          if (pageString == "corporate") {
                window.onload = function()  {
                var iframe = document.getElementById('U10511_animation');
                var innerDoc = (iframe.contentDocument) ? iframe.contentDocument : iframe.contentWindow.document;
                var corporateRectangle = innerDoc.getElementById('Stage_Corporate_Rectangle');
                corporateRectangle.click();
    </script>
    The above code will select the Corporate tab in the menu when viewed in Firefox but not IE when the URL has the suffix #corporate.
    When I insert an 'alert' for the variable 'corporateRectangle' in Firefox it returns [HTMLObj] and in IE it returns 'null'.
    Any ideas anyone?  Thanks.

    The issue was that the menu animation has a preloader.  Firefox ignores the preloader whereas IE treats the preloader as onLoad being complete.  Therefore the attempt to access the element ID is null as it hasn't been loaded yet.
    I decided to approach the problem from a different tack and read my bookmark from within the animation.  This turned out to be a very simple solution once I figured out that I had to put the code in the first frame of the animation NOT in creationComplete or compositionReady.
    This was the code: -
        var bookmark = parent.window.location.hash;
        bookmark = bookmark.replace("#", "");
        if (bookmark == "corporate") {
         sym.play("corp");
    yes, as simple as that.

  • Preload works in firefox, not in ie

    Hi all,
    i create a swf called preload that load an external swf, it
    works only with firefox and not in ie.
    This is the code in preload.swf:
    import mx.controls.Loader;
    import mx.controls.ProgressBar;
    this.createClassObject(ProgressBar,"my_pb",998);
    this.createClassObject(Loader,"my_ldr",999);
    my_pb.move(350,300);
    my_ldr.move(0,0);
    my_pb.source = "my_ldr";
    var loadListener:Object = new Object();
    loadListener.progress = function(eventObj){
    // eventObj.target è il componente che ha generato
    l'evento progress,
    // ovvero, il loader.
    my_pb.setProgress(my_ldr.bytesLoaded, my_ldr.bytesTotal); //
    Visualizza l'avanzamento.
    my_ldr.addEventListener("progress",loadListener);
    my_ldr.scaleContent = false;
    my_ldr.contentPath = "/files/movie.swf"+"?cvc=" + cvc;
    where cvc, is a session coookie.
    I have to do this preload, because movie.swf contain some
    component that load an application in a flash media server.
    Someone can help me?
    thank you a lot.

    I test your preloader, work fine with opera and ie , maybe
    the problem is in your ie.Because here everything work good
    :)
