Sitemap generator(s) aren't working correctly (I think)

Hello,
I followed the lengthy link yesterday that started out as "meta and Google-ing" which then morphed somehow into "best sitemap generator." Following suggestions from Varkgirl, James Tseng and others, I got registered and verified by Google. Thank you for that. It went smoothly and quickly.
I also followed the forum discussions about creating a Sitemap and, based on the recommendations, I tried two of them. First I tried http://www.sitemap.com/Default.aspx recommended by Varkgirl on 11/21/06. It seemed to work fine and downloaded a html page on my desktop in a matter of seconds. I dragged that onto Fetch and "Put" it to the server (ftp-dom.earthlink.net - with whom I have my primary email service. Getting a new website up on Earthlink was, happily, very easy.)
What I got back from SitemapDoc SEEMED incomplete - just the Home page was shown. I fiddled with ""edit existing map" and nothing happened that I could see. (I'm open to the idea that it's me, not the software.) I dragged the icon from the Fetch webdocs window in to the trash.
Then I tried another website generator that had been recommended by Rebecca as the super dooper one - xml-sitemaps.com. I did that because of her high praise and, also, because of a comment James Tseng has made in a 11/02.06 response to Tormance saying "...the sitemap.xml file. (Emphasis on the ".xml" file - thinking that maybe that xml was better.)
While I've read the definitions of html and xml ,I don't know the difference except that they are both markup languages for websites.
The xml-sitemaps.com sitemap page - downloaded to my desktop - showed the correct total number of web pages - 11. I should say that I chose to download the sitemap to the desktop and not to use iDisk. Perhaps that's part of the problem that ensued. I grabbed the sitemap.xml icon on the desktop and dropped it on to the Fetch webdocs page/window and clicked "Put." Fetch started to upload and all seemed to be fine. Initially I recognized page names, artwork names, Haiku lines from the new website. I got very nervous when it was still uploading after 25 minutes and I saw, among dozens of other files and folders, "Acobat Reader 5.0 sitz as Stuffit X Archive" (nothing on the website I created used compressed material), "Reader .pdf binary data," SVGA GMG carbon raster lib.sitx as Stuffit X archive," and, most scary, the beginning download of a file titled "passwords...." It looked to me as though it was uploading my entire hard drive - like something from a great 60s or early 70s movie, "Collosus the Forbin Project." I stop the Put at that point and trashed the sitemap.xml file.
Your suggestions are most welcome and appreciated.

Related to my original question (below),
Is there a technical reason - other than the practical reasons of backup and storage - to use iDisk to house my website? I currently have it in a desktop folder. In my original post I asked if not storing the website on iDisk might be part of the problem in not being able to create a sitemap.
Thanks.

  • Panel menus aren't working correctly on dual monitors

    Hi,
    I posted a question yesterday about this, but no one replied.  Maybe my subject didn't describe the problem so I am trying again.
    I use DW on a dual monitor Windows XP system.  The program is on the main monitor and I move some of the panels/palettes to the secondary monitor which is to the left of the main monitor.  The problem is that when I click the little menu icon in the upper right corner of the panels, the context menus open all the way over on the far right side of the main monitor.  Please see the attached image to see exactly what is happening.
    I have tried everything I can think of to make this work correctly, but no luck.  My Photoshop workspace is set up similarly and the PS palette menus open just as they should.
    Thank you.

  • XL Reporter : Date critaries aren't working correctly

    Hi,
    yesterday I found a bug in my reports.  I wanted to show all transactions between two dates : 08/01/07 and 08/14/07 but the query retrieves records it shouldn't
    FACT JOU( RefDate >= @Date1 And RefDate <= @Date2 And TransTypeCode = "ARInvoice" Or TransTypeCode = "ARCreditMemo" Or TransTypeCode = "CashReceipt" )  Group By JOU.RefDate ,JOU.TransTypeCode ,FIG.OJDT_BaseRef ,FIG.OJDT_Ref1 ,FIG.OJDT_Ref2
    But when I do a similar SQL query using the cast as Datetime, it works perfectly.  Isn't there a way to do something like this with XL Reporter ?
    select RefDate,Memo from dbo.OJDT where RefDate >= cast('05/01/2007' as Datetime) and RefDate <= cast('08/14/2007' as Datetime) and TransId in (select TransId from OJDT where Memo like 'A/R I%' or Memo like 'A/R C%' or Memo like 'Inc%')
    Is anyone had the same kind of problems as me with dates ?  Do you have any solutions.

    It seems critaries doesn't work with dimension, I changed it for a light dimension and the report works correctly.  I don't understand why...

  • Actions aren't working correctly in Photoshop CC 2014

    Hey guys,
    I hope someone can shed some light on this. I have several actions for Photoshop, that have been working fine in CC 2014. But today when I tried to use one, it would load up fine, though the end result would look wrong.
    I got 2 friends at work to try the same action and it worked fine for them. Not sure what's going on. I tried the action in the original version of CC and it worked fine, which is weird.
    I hope someone can help.
    Thanks

    At this moment, I have tried : Reset the "Adobe Photoshop Settings File" (When you open Photoshop, push "option + command + shift" for Apple).
    Not ok.

  • ITunes and iPod aren't working correctly

    So, I go and buy my new laptop today, with hopes of loading all my music that I backed up onto 4 DVDs. I go to load my music from the DVDs and they don't work. Whatever. So I go and follow Apple's instructions on how to backup my library on my iPod, then transfer it over to my computer. I followed their instructions, but to no avail. Nothing worked. I can run iTunes by itself flawlessly, but when I plug in my iPod, it automatically freezes my iTunes. I can't do anything with it now. I need some advice, because Google keeps leading me to dead ends. My iPod works fine, but not with the laptop/iTunes. I'm using the latest version of iTunes for 64 bit Vista.

  • Smart Mailboxes Aren't Working Correctly

    Not all of the criteria I have designated for my smart (so-called) mailboxes seem to affect all of my mail. For example, if I set the word "order" to be a condition in the "From" category, not every email with the word "order" in the "From" column is listed in the smart mailbox. Are there a finite number of criteria that can be set? Are the preferences screwed up? If so, where do they reside? Thanks in advance for the help.

    Yes. I also confirm the same. Smart Connect doesn't make the phone quiet. Ideally it would be great if Smart Connect would learn to support all the newest sound tweaks that Sony brought with 5.1: silent with alarm, without alarm, with exceptions, without exceptions... But at least it should support "Silent" mode at all, of course.

  • Illustator CS6, my quotation marks aren't working correctly?

    Illustator CS6, my quotation marks are coming up either pointing in the wrong direction, or sitting on the baseline. I've restarted. I've changed the font. Tried pasting from another program.

    Are you getting the normal 66, 99 quotes? Can you post a screen shot? You can also go into Menu>Type>Glyphs with the type selected to see the charactors or glyphs in the font you are using.

  • My iPhone 4 text messages to none iPhone phones aren't working correctly

    When I send a text to my friends with Droid phones the text character count doesn't seem to matter. I can send a text which in my iPhone is 320 characters which is in most phones had been two text... 160 characters had seemed to be commonly one text message on many phones for a long time. Now with the Droid smart phones the 320 or 160 character count doesn't seem to matter. My texts get broken up into three or four on their phones. Also picture texts files from my phone to theres seems to large for them to view quickly if at all. Many of them use an App for texting called Handcent. I looked into this but it appears to use this on my Apple phone I have to hijack my phone if you will otherwise its incompatable. I'm the only Apple user in my crowd if you could help me find a solution so when I text my friends its fun and easy for them to recieve my texts again that would be great!
    BTW, I do have my MMS turned on in my phone already.
    Thanks!!!

    Do you have the "send as SMS" setting turned on maybe that's the problem you might just have turned on your iMessage setting instead

  • All my purchases aren't working correctly

    I just spent the last hour and a half reading all the problems people are having with the latest iTunes update. I hope all your problems are solved. However, no one seems to be having the problem I am. I upgraded to 8.1.1 two days ago and now all of the songs that I purchased from the iTunes store have weird digital pops and clicks while being played. They also sound as if the song is playing too fast and it is trying to keep up. This also includes all free downloads I have from the free section. Furthermore, when I go to the iTunes store and listen to a 30 second sample I am having the same problem. All songs that I personally put in the library via CD or other method play just fine. Normally I would have just assumed this was a bug and it would be fixed but when I couldn't find anyone else with the same problem, I got a little worried. Anyone????

    You can think of iTunes as a content manager "front end" for QuickTime. It's QuickTime that is actually doing all the media playback functions.
    Forgive what might be a dumb question on my part, but you've tried restarting your computer? If so, you might look for any third-party QuickTime plugins (DivX, 3ivX, etc.) or iTunes additions and if there are any try removing them and see if that has any effect on the issue.
    Hope this helps.

  • Google Sitemap Generator "Error"

    Hi,
    When I click the ""Create Sitemap" button in the Google Sitemap Generator, 4 pages appear as correct; complete with title & description/keyword info.
    However, one page ("The Music...") appears with an ERROR indication stating:
    Ambiguous Redirect. Link at http://www.music4yourevent.com/About%20Me.html
    It says that there is no description for this page (though I have edited it identically to the other pages using TextEdit).
    ...and the box for this page is automatically unchecked
    I have no idea what to do about this (or if it is even important).
    Any advice?!

  • Anyone know how to correct settings as my shortcut keys aren't working?

    I'm a complete novice to In Desi
    gn and just started using it this week.  I have it set up on my pc as part of the Creative Suite 4.  It seems to have been installed correctly, however
    the default keyboard shortcuts aren't working at all.  Even when I go in to change these, it won't allow me - so there seems to be an error occ
    urring somewhere.  Would anyone have encountered this before and know how to resovle it?
    Also - when I'm typing in a text box, the return key won't work (usually hitting the return key allows you to move to the next line).  Does anyone know how to fix this?
    Thanks - I really haven't a clue what's wrong or how to fix it.

    Hi Paul,
    Thanks for getting back to me.
    I haven't installed the latest patch - I've just reinstalled the Adobe
    Creative Suite 4.  What do you mean by OS? - I work on Windows Vista PC.
    When I hit the enter key nothing at all happens - the cursor doesn't move at
    all.
    None of the shortcut keys work at all.  As I've only just done a training
    course in In Design, I've only had 2 days of actually using it!  so I don't
    know many of the shortcut keys - but any that I have tried don't work e.g.
    CTRL & Z, CTRL & W etc.

  • If statement within a view is not working correctly ?

    Hi all,
    maybe i am wrong but i think the if statement within a view is not working correctly. See code down below.
    I would like to use the Hallo World depending on the page attribute isFrame with or without all the neccessary html tags. Therefore i have embedded the htmlb tags in an if statement. But for any reason if isframe is initial it isn't working. It would be great if anybody could help me.
    <%@page language="abap"%>
    <%@extension name="htmlb" prefix="htmlb"%>
    <% if not isframe is initial. %>
      <htmlb:content design="design2003">
         <htmlb:page title = "Top Level Navigation view">
    <% endif. %>
    hallo world
    <% if not isframe is initial. %>
         </htmlb:page>
      </htmlb:content>
    <% endif. %>
    thanks in advance and best regards
    Matthias Hlubek

    Matthias,
    The short answer: your example is <b>NOT</b> going to work. The long answer will probably 5 pages to describe. So first let me rewrite the example so that it could work, and then give a short version of the long answer. Do not be disappointed if it is not totally clear. It is rather complicated. (See the nice form of IF statements that are possible since 620.)
    <%@page language="abap"%>
    <%@extension name="htmlb" prefix="htmlb"%>
    <% if isframe is <b>NOT</b> initial. %>
    <htmlb:content design="design2003">
      <htmlb:page title = "Top Level Navigation view">
        hallo world
      </htmlb:page>
    </htmlb:content>
    <% else. %>
      hallo world
    <% endif. %>
    So why does your example not work? Let us start with a simple tag:
      <htmlb:page title = "Top Level Navigation view">
      </htmlb:page>
    Now, for each tag, we have effectively the opening part (<htmlb:page>), an optional body, and then the closing part (</htmlb:page>). We are now at the level of the BSP runtime processing one tag. What the runtime does not know, is whether the tag wants to process its body or not. Each tag can decide dynamically at runtime whether the body should be processed. So the BSP compiler generates the following code:
      DATA: tag TYPE REF TO cl_htmlb_page.
      CREATE OBJECT tag.
      tag->title = 'Top Level Navigation view'.
      IF tag->DO_AT_BEGINNING( ) = CONTINUE.
      ENDIF.
      tag->DO_AT_END( ).
    You should actually just debug your BSP code at ABAP level, and then you will immediately see all of this. Now, let us mix in your example with our code generation. First you simplified example:
    <% if isframe is NOT initial. %>
      <htmlb:page title = "Top Level Navigation view">
    <% endif. %>
    <% if isframe is NOT initial. %>
      </htmlb:page>
    <% endif. %>
    And then with our generated code. Look specifically at how the IF/ENDIF blocks suddenly match!
    if isframe is NOT initial.
      DATA: tag TYPE REF TO cl_htmlb_page.
      CREATE OBJECT tag.
      tag->title = 'Top Level Navigation view'.
      IF tag->DO_AT_BEGINNING( ) = CONTINUE.
    endif.
    if isframe is NOT initial.
      ENDIF.
      tag->DO_AT_END( ).
    endif.
    You can see that your ENDIF statements are closing IF blocks generated by the BSP compiler. Such a nesting will not work. This is a very short form of the problem, there are a number of variations, and different types of the same problem.
    The only way to solve this problem, is probably to put the body into a page fragment and include it like I did above with the duplicate HelloWorld strings. But this duplicates source code. Better is to put body onto a view, that can be processed as required.

  • Spry Menu Bar won't work correctly.

    This is an image of what the overall menu bar layout should be like-all of the links and sublinks.
    I have a few problems that I am having all relating to the spry menu bar.
    I ran my code through w3c validation service but it came up with alot of errors which when corrected didn't make sense or work either.
    I made this menu bar in a widget called spry menu bar 2.0.  I then edited it to place in the correct names and it doesn't work correctly and the w3c validation code seems to have 43 errors with the spry bar. I am been over it a dozen times and I can't seem to figure it out.  Here is the code.
    Also, have I made the links correctly?
    I would appreciate any help you could offer! thank you

        these rules, with the exception of the images used for down or right pointing arrows, which are in the file SpryMenuBasic.css
         These assume the following widget classes for menu layout (set in a preset)
        .MenuBar - Applies to all menubars - default is horizontal bar, all submenus are vertical - 2nd level subs and beyond are pull-right.
        .MenuBarVertical - vertical main bar; all submenus are pull-right.
        You can also pass in extra classnames to set your desired top level menu bar layout. Normally, these are set by using a preset.
        They only apply to horizontal menu bars:
            MenuBarLeftShrink - The menu bar will be horizontally 'shrinkwrapped' to be just large enough to hold its items, and left aligned
            MenuBarRightShrink - Just like MenuBarLeftShrink, but right aligned
            MenuBarFixedLeft - Fixed at a specified width set in the rule '.MenuBarFixedLeft', and left aligned.
            MenuBarFixedCentered -  - Fixed at a specified width set in the rule '.MenuBarFixedCentered',
                            and centered in its parent container.
            MenuBarFullwidth - Grows to fill its parent container width.
        In general, all rules specified in this file are prefixed by #MenuBar so they only apply to instances of the widget inserted along
        with the rules. This permits use of multiple MenuBarBasic widgets on the same page with different layouts. Because of IE6 limitations,
        there are a few rules where this was not possible. Those rules are so noted in comments.

    /* IE6 rules - you can delete these if you do not want to support IE6 */
    /* A note about multiple classes in IE6.
    * Some of the rules above use multiple class names on an element for selection, such as "hover" (MenuItemHover) and "has a subMenu" (MenuItemWithSubMenu),
    * giving the selector '.MenuItemWithSubMenu.MenuItemHover'.
    * Unfortunately IE6 does not support using mutiple classnames in a selector for an element. For a selector such as '.foo.bar.baz', IE6 ignores
    * all but the final classname (here, '.baz'), and sets the specificity accordingly, counting just one of those classs as significant. To get around this
    * problem, we use the plugin in SpryMenuBarIEWorkaroundsPlugin.js to generate compound classnames for IE6, such as 'MenuItemWithSubMenuHover'.
    * Since there are a lot of these needed, the plugin does not generate the extra classes for modern browsers, and we use the CSS2 style mutltiple class
    * syntax for that. Since IE6 both applies rules where
    * it should not, and gets the specificity wrong too, we have to order rules carefully, so the rule misapplied in IE6 can be overridden.
    * So, we put the multiple class rule first. IE6 will mistakenly apply this rule.  We follow this with the single-class rule that it would
    * mistakenly override, making sure the  misinterpreted IE6 specificity is the same as the single-class selector, so the latter wins.
    * We then create a copy of the multiple class rule, adding a '.SpryIsIE6' class as context, and making sure the specificity for
    * the selector is high enough to beat the single-class rule in the "both classes match" case. We place the IE6 rule at the end of the
    * css style block to make it easy to delete if you want to drop IE6 support.
    * If you decide you do not need IE6 support, you can get rid of these, as well as the inclusion of the SpryMenuBarIEWorkaroundsPlugin.js script.
    * The 'SpryIsIE6' class is placed on the HTML element by  the script in SpryMenuBarIEWorkaroundsPlugin.js if the browser is Internet Explorer 6. This avoids the necessity of IE conditional comments for these rules.

  • Bursting a PDF Template is not working correctly

    We are using a PDF template for an export document and we are bursting the request so that we can send the output to multiple destinations.
    This all works correctly until we hit a document that results in multiple pages. This results in the generated output to be a complete mess. Text appearing all over the page.
    If I take the same XML and run it through the template in Template viewer, everything works as expected. The text is all where it is supposed to be. So this appears to be an issue with how the XML and template are bursted.
    Anyone have any ideas?
    EDIT: I should mention that we're on XML Publisher v 5.6.3
