Sites created in iweb look weird on pc

I created a site on iweb, and all looks great on the mac, but when I view it on the pc, some images are missing and type (html type) has been reformatted and unaligned. Any suggestions here and how to fix? help! THANKS!

That is unfortunately a bug (Bug 662898) that slipped into Firefox 5 and that will be fixed in Firefox 6, due to be released in August.

  • Website created with iWeb looks different in IE and Firefox than Safari-why

So I spent a few hours working on my Home and About Us page. Then, while browsing this forum, I started seeing posts about how sites done with iWeb might not look good in IE and/or Firefox. I decided to test out my work. I zipped up my site files and emailed them to myself. I went to my Dell desktop and downloaded the files to that computer. I opened up the home page in Firefox first. The site seemed to look ok, and both the home and about us page links showed up and were functional (i.e. I was able to browse back and forth between the two pages). However, I had some bullet points on the about us page that had a green border around them. This rendered fine in Safari on my Mac, but in Firefox, the bottom line of the box was not connected! Why?
After viewing in IE, I was depressed. The site didn't look at all like it should have. Not only that, but I couldn't navigate between the pages, since the links for home and about us were not at the top. What can I do to make sure that a site I create with iWeb looks good in Safari, IE, and Mozilla Firefox?

Well I see that you and I share the same problem, I posted the same type of question and am anxiosly awaiting replies on this topic, as it is very important
I own a small business, and every hour a customer cannot view my site is a customer lost to incompatibility issues.
I hope someone can help answer these issues.

  • Why does my web page, created on iWeb, look correct on Safari but has thick black lines all over it in Firefox?

Why does my web page, created on iWeb, look correct on Safari but has thick black lines all over it in Firefox?

What's the URL of your site so we can examine it first hand?  I assume those black lines are around photos or objects that have had a frame or drop shadow added to it, right?  If so that's a known issue.
There's a workaround for that in this tutorial: #7 - Converting Photos w/Frames, Drop Shadows and/or Reflections into a Single Image File.  That should get rid of those black lines/boxes.

No. iCloud does not host websites.

  • Editing a site created with Iweb - with another program

    Hello,
I built a website for a friend and he wants to be able to make small changes on it from time to time and I downloaded a WYSIWYG editor and none of them are compatible with sites created with Iweb...
Does anyone have any suggestions? He runs a windows machine.
    Thank you so much!!!

Well, not really. A lot of people have their sites built for them and then, with a little guidance, can change out photos, or do a little editing here and there. So your idea certainly has merit.
The problem is, iWeb is a unique html generator. It stores everything you create in the application in a single file, (Domain.sites2), and only the application itself can open this file for editing. iWeb doesn't even create the html until you publish the site, either to a folder or to an Apple server. iWeb also changes many things into .png files--including text--believe it or not, in a well intentioned effort to cross platform better with other browser applications. So even simple text editors, which would normally be fine for changing small things in most websites, will struggle.
Your idea was a good one; it is iWeb that isn't a good candidate for it.
You must therefore now convince this person to become an Apnewbie, and buy a Mac!

  • Site created on iWeb '08, but now only appears online, NOT in iWeb

I created a site on iWeb 08 and published it to web.me.com and to a folder (just in case!)
The site's currently viewable online, BUT now it's not in iWeb as one of my sites, so I can't make changes.
Anyone know if I can drag the site back into iWeb?

Welcome to the discussions. No, you can't drag the published site back into iWeb — only iWeb's Domain file can be opened in iWeb. See this Apple doc on How to back up MobileMe data. It says:
Any websites you have published with iWeb should still be available within iWeb. iWeb stores everything in a Domain file, normally located in the ~/Library/Application Support/iWeb folder (although it can be moved). If you no longer have this file, you can view your currently published pages and manually recreate them within iWeb, but there is no way to import published pages back into iWeb. You can manually back up the Domain file, or use Backup to back it up.

But Spotlight does not look in all areas of the hard drive. Download and run Find File to search for ".sites2".

  • Can I manage sites created by iWeb from a browser like I could w/Homepage?

If I remember correctly, one could manage the sites published to Homepage from any browser. Can I still do that with sites published by iWeb?
I publish a lot of photo pages and sometimes I need to make changes to them from work where I use a linux box. I miss that part of Homepage...
    Thank you for any help
    Bo

    RIP Homepage!
I think I will go to pBase for photo publishing from now on. It's the only other option for a clean uncluttered look for photo hosting. I sure will miss the easy workflow between iPhoto and iWeb though...
    Thanks James.

  • How do I delete sites created with iWeb and posted with .mac after a format

I am confused about how to delete a couple of sites that I created with iWeb and posted with my .mac after I did a format reload?
I have tried everything. The original files are not on my MacBook Pro because of the format.
I also see them in my idisc, but I is my understanding that on my MacBook Pro that I can delete the files, but they are hosted online. On the online idisk I cannot delete them because there is no option. Please help!!!

Using the file menu in Finder:
    Go/iDisk/My iDisk/Web/Sites/iWeb/YourSitesAreHere
Highlight selected files and Command/Delete. You will receive a drop down asking you if you are sure; click OK and the files/sites will be deleted immediately from the iDisk.

  • Does anyone know whether it is possible to add a Pay Pal button to web site created using IWeb?

  • Multiple URLs for different sites created on iWeb?

When I created a second site and went to publish it, the site was given the same URL (web address) as the first site I created. Does iWeb not identify new sites with unique URLs? Essentially my question is does each MobileMe account only support a single website?

Welcome to the Apple Discussions. When publishing multiple sites to to a MobileMe account the last published site will be accessible via the simple URL: http://web.me.com/youraccountname/
However each site has it's own URL which would be:
    http://web.me.com/youraccount_name/sitename
So you need to tack on the site name at the end of the simple URL.
For what it's worth I use iWebSites to manage over 40 individual sites.. It lets me create multiple sites and multiple domain files.
If you have multiple sites in one domain file here's the workflow I used to split them into individual site files with iWebSites. Be sure to make a backup copy of your original Domain.sites files before starting the splitting process and move it to another location on your HD until you're satisfied the separation process is completed and what you want.
This lets me edit several sites and only republish the one I want. It's something you might want to take a look at.

  • Help with tabs on a site created by iWeb '09

    Hi All,
I created a site through iWeb and the only problem I am having is that on the "home" page, when viewing the site online, it looks great and normal, but on the other pages within the site, the title of the site disappears from the tab above. For example, if you are in safari and click file, new tab, you should see the title/name of the site on the tab. On my site, you can only see the name of the site when on the home page. When clicking on any other part of the site, the name of the tab disappears and is blank. Can anyone help? I can't figure out how to fix this...
    Thanks so much.

Real info, such as an URL to your page, would help.

  • Site created in iWeb not working on iPad.

I created kind of a test site in iWeb, and then "hosted" it on the web via Opera Unite. The site I created displays correctly over the net on the dektop versions of Opera, Firefox, and Safari, but on my iPad, both Safari and Atomic Web have issues. Neither will render any of the iWeb embedded google maps, and the photos displayed on the bottom of my page in the photo viewer refuse to even show up. The made on mac apple logo is also improperly placed on top of something else on my page. What could be causing this?  I am using iWeb 3.0.4, and my iPad has iOS 5.1
If my computer is on, which wont be often overall, the site in question can be viewed here.
    http://admin.home.nnickn.operaunite.com/webserver/content/ORD/Photos.html
    Thanks for the help!

I tired to load the page several more times, but it usually doesn't work. Here is what happened.
A few times everything displayed properly.
Sometimes the maps alone didn't display.
Sometimes the maps would display but not the bottom pictures.
Sometimes the pictures next to the maps wouldn't display, but everything else was fine.
It seems like it randomly does or doesn't load items. I still don't understand why, as the desktop browsers I loaded my page on never had a problem displaying any of the content. Any ideas?

  • Multiple sites created in iWeb '08 / Personal Domains for Each?

If I create more than one site in iWeb, can each site have its own Personal Domain?
So far, I have created 2 sites: When I publish the first one, it shows up on the web as http://web.mac.com/myname/nameofmysite/etc (which is fine). But I would like for the 2nd site to go to my personal url.
I registered my domain name with GoDaddy, and have gone thru the process of assigning the CNAME at GoDaddy and Personal Domain at mac.com
The problem is: When I click on Visit Published Site in iWeb, it goes to my domain name (www.mydomainname.com/my2ndsitename), but still showing the standard "placeholder" home page at GoDaddy.
What do I need to do to make my ONLY my 2nd site show up at my personal url? And do I still need to do something else at GoDaddy to make my actual site appear at my personal domain url?

The site you want to use CNAME with must be the topmost site in the organizer at the left side inside the iWeb app when you publish (or the last site you publish if you are using separated Domain files).
It would be good to provide your url(s) if you want further help.
Only one CNAME type pointing can be used per account, but you can use ordinary forwarding/masking for other sites, where you just type the longer url (http://web.mac.com/username/sitename) into a form at the place which has your name.

  • How do i edit a site created with iweb

I created a site last year with iweb, but now when I try to open it, it only lets me create a new site.  I can see the thumbnail in my finder view, but cannot edit it. Help.
    Thanks in advance

    Try this:
To open your domain file in Lion or to switch between multiple domain files Cyclosaurus has provided us with the following script that you can make into an Applescript application with Script Editor. Open Script Editor, copy and paste the script below into Script Editor's window and save as an application.
do shell script "/usr/bin/defaults write com.apple.iWeb iWebDefaultsDocumentPath -boolean no"delay 1
    tell application "iWeb" to activate
You can download an already compiled version with this link: iWeb Switch Domain.
Just launch the application, find and select the domain file you want to open and it will open with iWeb. It modifies the iWeb preference file each time it's launched so one can switch between domain files.
WARNING: iWeb Switch Domain will overwrite an existing Domain.sites2 file if you select to create a new domain in the same folder.  So rename your domain files once they've been created to something other than the default name.

  • Sites created in iWeb '08 will not open in iWeb '09

I upgraded to '09 but the sites that I created when I had '08 will not open. They are listed on the side menu but when you click on them the main window is blank/white. Is anyone having or had this problem and found the solution? Please help.
I have the files saved to a folder and I also think I have the old domain file backed up on another hard drive. That is extra information just incase that can help me.
    Thanks!
