Size dimensions of the 20 inch iMac screen?

Can anyone help me out for a second? I've been using an original release 400mhz G4 PowerMac for the last 7 years, but am planning to get a new iMac 20 incher very, very soon. Before I do though, there is one tiny insignificant piece of information I'm trying to figure out, and can't seem to get ahold of anywhere I check.
What are the dimensions of width and height of the iMac 20 inch screens in actual inches? Does anyone have them, or feel like pulling out a ruler? I'm just trying to get an idea of how much room it is, but I can't find the information anywhere, and can't use my current non-widescreen monitor to measure in comparison.
Anyone care to pass along the info?
Thanks.
G4 PowerMac (PCI Grafx)   Mac OS X (10.3.9)   400 Mhz

OK, let's try these measurements: 17" X 10.75" (Approx). I took these from my 20" widescreen Acer which has the same resolution specs as the iMac.

  • My new 21 inch Imac screen tilts fairly easily, is that normal?

My new 21 inch imac screen tilts fairly easily, is that normal?  It will hold in place.  But it doesn't take too much pressure to adjust it.  If that is normal, any precautions to make sure it doesn't "break?"
    Thanks for your consideration.

It should move easily; not sure what degree of "easily" would be considered normal. As long as it holds the position you set it to, it should be fine.

    Hi there,
The simplest way is to drag it across wirelessly using the 'Airdrop' application once both computers are near one another. 'Airdrop' can be found near the top, on the left hand side menu, within 'Finder'.

  • 20 inch iMac screens ok.

From what iv read only the 24 inch iMacs have the condensation problem.
So if i got a 20 inch will i not have to worry about it.
    Thanks, Jake.

Welcome to Discussions - you are right, the three beeps mean no RAM banks have passed testing, you will have to take the computer in to have it repaired. Hopefully, you will be covered by Apple Care. Any faulty RAM will cause the computer to malfunction, adding more RAM won't help.

  • My 27 inch iMac screen will not hold position when I move it.  It just drops back to the lowest position.

My 27 inch iMac monitor tilts forward and will not hold position when I adjust it up.. Is there a tension adjustment for the monitor position?

That is a hardware issue that will be covered under warranty if the machine is a 2012 or later iMac. Bring it into your closest Apple Store or AASP for repair.

  • 24 inch iMac screen resolution options

I have a 24 inch iMac. The native 1920x1200 resolution is great for displaying large amounts of data, but is sometimes too small for my aging eyeballs to see comfortably. The next option is 1344x840 which is easier to see, though a bit grainy, but I lose huge amounts of displayed data on web pages and things like that. I'd love the option for 1680x1050 (like the native res on 20 inch iMacs) but it is not an option on my display preferences selection menu. Why is that resolution not an option on the menu? Can I get to that resolution another way?

    To SteveCG
I must be a conspiracy theorist. I've just bought a 20" iMac after many friends gave Macs such a great rap about their graphics etc. The 6 year-old 13" Dell Inspiron 4000 Laptop I'd just left produced much sharper screen images. Most of the work I do is just producing and reading text - reports and emails etc. I'm am SO annoyed that fonts are not sharp and clear on the 20" screen. Increasing the size (Command +) does not make any difference - the edges are still fussy.
I complained (fruitlessly) to Apple Support after I found the best resolution I could get was only 1680 x 1050. Was told that there was nothing Apple support could do to improve it and buying a better graphics card would not help since the maximum screen resolution was related to the composition of the screen structure.
And my theory? Apple will shortly launch a better higher resolution screen on the market and encourage us all to rush out and buy one.

  • About how much does it cost to replace a 27 inch iMac screen?

Hi. I recently got a new 27 inch iMac. Unfortunately, got a chip and crack in the glass. I am curious as to how much replacing the glass will cost me. Thank you!

If it was accidental, your one year limited warranty may cover a replacment screen.
Otherwise, it's impossible to say what the charges would be.
You need to take your Mac to an Apple store or Apple certified repair provider for an estimate.

  • Will the 20 inch iMac G4 work under Tiger

    Hi
I would like to buy an old iMac G4 off the internet as I would like to run OS9-based apps without an emulator (sheepshaver, Basilik ][, etc) as I want to use a Floppy drive to transfer files to an old Macintosh Plus... So I need Classic... And I run Mavericks on my current Mac.
I would like the most powerful mac to run 10.4 (as it is the last OSX verison that supports Classic Environment), preferably an iMac G4 (because I like the design and its 20 inch display)
BUT it seems that the 20-inch 2.0 USB iMac G4 can't run 10.4, only 10.5 and onwards according to Wikipedia (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Imac_G4)
Can someone confirm this? Can I "downgrade" it if that's the case?
What is the best Mac for Tiger?
    Thanks,
    Bad Gold Eagle

Another thing, if you go to Apple's support page for the iMac G4 (http://support.apple.com/kb/SP94?viewlocale=en_US&locale=en_US), it states that it can even run Panther??

  • Does anyone know when the 27 inch iMacs will ship?

Does anyone know when the new "thin" 27 inch iMacs will ship to California?  I ordered one in early December and can't get a firm answer.

If you ordered it when they were accepting Pre-Orders then chances are you'll receive your iMac between Dec. 24th and 31st. But seeing as how you ordered it in December, I don't think that's the case. I'm about to purchase a customized one, so I've been back and forth on Apple's site since late November, and I noticed that in December, the ship date shows January. So I'm thinking that once January 1st rolls around, the ship date on the website might be updated with something along the lines of 1-2 weeks or such. Good luck, I feel your angst. I'm about to order one, but it's already December 26th tomorrow, so waiting till January won't be that big of an issue. By the way, did you go with the new Fusion drive? I think I'm going to. At first I decided I wasn't because people were saying that there was a possibility of files being corrupted because they are being moved around and re-written so much, but I'm not so sure now. I'm thinking I'll try the 1TB Fusion drive, not too worried now because I back up all my important stuff to external HDD. Plus from the videos I've seen, boot time and app load time with the Fusion Drive models is wicked quick.

Bad power, unshielded speakers, improper hardware installs which lead to loose cables, can all cause this.

  • 24 inch iMac Screen problems after 10.5 upgrade

After upgrading to 10.5 i have had many issues with the display my iMac (white) 24inch Core 2 Duo. I have corruption resulting in horizontal lines across open windows and in some cases on the desktop itself. Some of the button text turns bright green. The iMac in question was purchased with the NVIDIA GeForce 7600 GT graphic card upgrade. I have run the 10.5.1 software update and the firmware is all up to date. Has anyone had the same issues? Does anyone have a fix? Help please.
I have upgraded my MacBook with no issues at all!

If your iMac keeps on freezing it could be a hard ware problem, the first thing to do is run Apple Hardware Test on your iMac.

  • What size SSD does the 13 inch 2012 entry-level MacBook Pro use?

I want to upgrade my 2012 13" MacBook Pro to use an SSD. I know that MacBooks use 2.5 inch laptop drives, but what are the sizes that MacBooks support?
    12.5mm, 9mm or 7.5mm etc...?

Most if not all SSDs are of the 9mm size and have a rubber bumper on them to make them taller, the 12.5 size. you can take the bumper system off most of them to make them fit into a 9mm space. But your Mac will take any size UP To 12.5mm. Not so for the optical bay.

  • Is it worth buying 21 inch iMac or buy the 27 inch iMac?

    please give some edvice

21 in iMac does not allow RAM upgrde later.   27 in lets you upgrade RAM later.
for 21 in you need to buy the amount of RAM you will need eventually.  That can drive the price of a 21 in up to a 27 in that has base-amounts of RAM but can be upgraded later for low cost.
