Size Measurements in DVDSP

I would like to confirm I understand correctly what I've read in several other threads regarding size, disk meter, and units of measurement.
Is the target size in the Disk Meter measured in Billions of Bytes, hence the max size is 4.7GB?
Is the general max size of assets (assuming all are compressed & with AC3 audio) in the assets list 4.37?
I've read in other threads about inconsistent disk meter readings. Can you more accurately measure the size of your project and whether it will fit on a DVD by caluating the size in the assets list?
Dual G4 800   Mac OS X (10.4.7)   DVDSP 3

To calculate the size/bitrate you can use http://www.videohelp.com/calc.htm so you can figure ut based on the viideo and audio encoding rates, based on running time, what is needed to fit on a DVD-5

  • How to change the iPhoto Photo Book Size Measurement?

    Hi guys,
I am annoyed that when I create my book in iPhoto Book, the measurement is in CM and in Malaysia, all the Book Printer is measured in Inches... I have tried changing the setting but to no avail.
    Kindly help...
    Thanks a lot...

It is easy - open the book and click on themes and select the new size - it is best to dupicate the book first incase something goes wrong
And preview carefully before ordering -
Before ordering your book preview it using this method - http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1040 - and save the resulting PDF for reference - the delivered book will match it.

  • File Size Issues In DVDSP 4.1.2

Hello, everyone. I have a movie file whose video is 3.53 Gigs, and whose audio is 836.7 megs - roughly 4.37Gigs, well under the standard 4.7 Gig dvd I have to save the file on. However, DVDSP is saying the file is 5.0 Gigs in size. What's going on? I thought DVDSP rounded up or something, so I went ahead and exported the audio clip to a 75 meg size, which should put the overall file size now at just over 4 Gigs - DEFINITELY enough to fit in the 4.7 blank DVD I have. However (and again) DVDSP is still saying the size of the project is 5.0 Gigs.
I'm not sure what's going on, and would definitely appreciate any help or suggestions from anyone.
Thank you very much in advance,
    Javier Calderon

Thanks for the rsponse, Shawn. It was Compressor originally that I used actually. I didn't use that particular codec, however, so thank you for suggesting that one. I ended up using another codec that did bring the file size way down - which is good - but this version is only for test purposes, and the time will arrive soon when I will have to export the movie in the best quality that I can have it. I will try the codec you just suggested right now and see what happens.
    Thank you again,

  • How to hide page size at bottom of pdf?

    Hi
I've created a PDF docuemnt to be viewed on screen wich contains a lot of buttons etc. At the bottom of the page in normal view (we are not using full screen. or reading mode) the page size measurements pop up when the cursor approaches the bottom of the page. this is where my buttons are located and the measurements are obstructing the view of the buttons. Is there any way of hiding or removing this little pop up?
I know you can make it go away by selecting that it is always in view, but this is a document that is going to be sent out to a lot of people and I can't add instructions for reading. The changes made to the size pop up will have to be made so that the pdf doesn't need any adjustment with concerns to viewing when it leaves me.
    PLEASE HELP!

This user preference cannot be controlled by a document. You can either set the initial zoom so that the pop-up appears to the left of the page, but that would be screen size dependent, or inform your users what they can do to prevent it by setting the preference.
Finally, if you set the document to hide the window controls, and the user's preference is set to allow a document to do this, the page size pop-up will not show.

  • Crop to trim: Page size may not be reduced ERROR

I have a client wanting the complete back catalogue of his journal's hi-res PDFs supplied but without the trim marks, printer's info and bleed. This ought to be easy enough - Acrobat will trim a PDF for me and I can automate the process. Except that it won't. I go Documents > Crop Pages... and set all the options for cropping to  the Trim Box, but nothing happens. If I try putting in the page size measurements manually, I get the error message 'Page size cannot be reduced'. Seeing as I've arrived via the Crop Pages option on the document menu I can't think I'm in the wrong place. Why won't Acrobat crop my pages?

  • Determining Video Pixel Size from Still Pixel Sizes

    Hello
I posted a few questions here in regard to establshing good Pixel Sizes in stills for use in FCE.
Tom, and Studio X were very helpful, and I picked up a few pointers.
One thing I still didn't grasp completley was how to determine (perhaps from a simple formula), what the Video Pixel Size would be from a photo's pixel size.
    As Tom pointed out:
"A 2400x3000 pixel image may be perfectly adequate and not produce as many imaging problems when scaled in a video application"
And as I discovered in regard to print size:
    "An 8" x 10" document that is scanned at 300 dpi has the pixel dimensions of 2,400 pixels (8" x 300 dpi) by 3,000 pixels (10" x 300 dpi).
So then all this being said, is there a way to easily determine what the Video Pixel Size will be from the given Pixel dimensions of a still image?
(Like from a re-sized Tiff in Photoshop)
My version of Photoshop doesn't seem to have that conversion option for determining NTSC Video image quality.
    Thanx
    Mike

And if I need to zoom in really tight to a small area in a particular still, I should allow myself an image size a bit larger than 1280x720. Correct?< </div>
If only it was that easy. The video screen is roughly 800 by 500 pixels. That's all there are. If you bring in a 1600x1000 JPEG (might want to try TIFF instead) and you wish to see the whole image, it will be scaled down to 25% to fit onto the small screen and all of your pixels will be thrown away or mashed together. It's terribly inefficient and the image gets mushily softened.
If you need to zoom in to a particular spot on the image, imagine that spot as filling the 800x500 pixel screen. You can use a simple ruler and measure the area you wish to be full screen (without any scaling being applied by FCP because that will destroy your image). Now measure the largest part of the image that you want to be on screen at any one time when zoomed all the way out. The ratio of those two numbers is what you will need to scan. Example (highly simplified don't try to argue about the precision) if your big image is 10x8 inches and your desired tight shot is 4x3 inches, you must provide a TIFF that is 2.5 or 2.75 times the size of the tightest area. That tight area is going to be 800x500 pixels. You will scan the 10x8 image to obtain a TIFF that is almost 2.5 times 800 pixels wide or 2000 pixels, by 2.5 times 500 pixels high or 1250 pixels. Do not bother to convert that into DPI. You are targeting an image size measured in pixels. It's got nothing to do with the size of the original image or the DPI. Repeating: Absolutely nothing.
This will give you an image into which you can zoom and suffer no image degradation. It will also give you a tremendous processing hit. FCP just doesn't like to do that kind of scaling.
Umm, doesn't look like I helped much. This issue is highly misunderstood and it's quite confusing if you come from a Photoshop background. giving up concepts like DPI is almost impossible. The only way to get it is to work through the many options Photoshop and video people offer up and try to figure out why some of them don't work for you.

  • Cover size for IP4 and IP4 S

The size measurements seem to be exactly the same for both phones.  I'm wondering if I can use a case from a IP4 on my new IP 4 S?  I read somewhere that the side buttons (volume and muting) are in slightly different locations.  I have a case in mind for my 4S, but don't want to buy it if it doesn't allow access to the side buttons.
Anyone know the answer to this ?

I believe I saw in an earlier thread that the buttons are indeed in different locations. I don't know why, but I am 99.9% positive this is true. You might want to consider buying a new case.

  • [Vision] Measuring the minimum and maximum radius of a particle

    Hi all,
I'm currently developing an upgraded vision application that includes a particle sizing measurement using the IMAQ Particle Analysis VI.
Currently I'm using the Equivalent Ellipse Major and Minor axes, which works fairly well but appears to overstate the area of the particles compared to the previous implementation of the software for this system.  The original software used a maximum and minium radius measurement using the actual perimiter of the particle rather than an equivalent ellipse.
I'm looking at using Max Feret Diameter and Equivalent Ellipse Minor (Feret) instead, and I was wondering if anyone has any experience with this sort of measurement and can offer some advice?  I'm processing up to 100 particles per frame at around 7-8 fps, so I don't know if writing my own LabVIEW code to perform the measurement will be fast enough.

    Hi Bjorn,
I can detect the particles fine, the issue is with the particle size measurement.  As you can see from the image, most of the particles are not very round.  The previous version of the software caclulated a maxium and minimum radius of the particle, but there doesn't seem to be an exact equivalent in the LabVIEW vision library

  • How do you change fonts in an HTML report?

    Hello all,
I need to create a report from a test that I've written, and my only feasible option is HTML. Unfortunately, I know next to nothing about HTML, so I'm using the LabView VI's to build the report.
In the attached VI, I've written a program that simply plops a couple lines of text down and saves it in the HTML format. The color, font style, font type all seem to work fine, and when I change them I see the changes reflected in the HTML document. The size, however, doesn't change.
What I need to do is have the ability to have different lines of text be different sizes, or even 1 word in a sentence be a different size.
    How do I do this?
    What am I doing wrong?
Any help would be greatly app
    reciated!

    Dear Dave,
The setting of the size is working but your parameters are inadequate for a HTML document.
The reporting VIs are generating HTML which is decrepated. It generates a FONT tag with a size attribute with "30pt" and "10pt" as you have set in the Set Report Font parameters. The HTML standard allows only values of "1" to "7". The standard works with relative sizes so a "pt" does not apply to it. "1" is the smallest size and the actual displayed size depends on the setting of the browser. In MS IE you can set it under View>>Size to one of five degrees.
If you would use "5" and "7" instead of "10pt" and "30pt" you will see the text in different size.
Your values are coerced to 7. That's why you see something you didn't expected.
    Unfortunatly
I have no experience with the reporting VIs. I'm not sure if they can use the style sheet formatting which will allow font sizes measured in points.

  • DL Break Point Issue - Please Help.

    Hello,
I use to work in DVDSP when you could only do one layer and even then I knew just enough to get the job done. Now I have a program that is 6.6 gigs total size (according to DVDSP) and I can't get this thing to find the break point. I have read through most of the manual regarding this issue and have read many posts - first I have to ask is why is this so difficult?
Here are the issues in detail and I ask that if you give input please guide me like I have limited knowledge in this.
I am using DVDSP 4.1.0 on a G5 Dual 1.8 OS is 10.4.8 with a Pioneer DVR 111D. I have 4 'tracks' all coming off one main menu...no sub menu's - so I have the one main and four buttons that go directly to the videos. When I try to 'burn' the DVD I get this error 'Formatting was not successful. A suitable marker could not be found in the required layer break range. See the DVD Studio Pro User's Manual for more information.' The size of each track is as follows:
Track One: The Main footage is 4.0 Gig (this is the one I am trying to set the break point because the limit is 3.9 Gig)
    Track Two: is 1.7 Gig
    Track Three: 606 Meg
    Track Four: 216 Meg
I have tried 'Automatic' without luck.
I have tried to place a few markers approximately 3/4 of the way through Track One the marker that I place is Green and in the Inspector window when I click on that marker I see the 'Marker Function' and then the button to select Dual-Layer Break Point and I select that only. However when I click something else and then come back to Marker the Dual Layer Break Point is not selected!
I then have gone into the 'Disc/Volume' and tried to select the 'Break Point' and chose Track One but still nothing. I have read in the forums about building the disc and then going into the TS folders and blah blah blah to get this done but that is above my head and I don't understand it.
I just need to get this video done. It is for a family who's 17 daughter was tragically killed and will be a fund raiser for them...I need to get this done. So if any of you are willing to help that would be SO appreciated AND if any of you would be so kind to walk me through this over the phone THAT WOULD BE GREAT! Just email me at [email protected] and I will email you my number. I know this is a tad different but I don't have much time left to get this done because of my 'real job' and again, I need to get this done!

    Hi csiaudio,
Build the project (AltAppleC). Then in the format window (Apple+F), Disc/Volume tab you'll be able to see the available break point markers. If they are all greyed out then you do not have one in the project.
Add Cell markers in places that you think would be ok as the layer switch. You do this by adding a chapter marker and then in the property inspector un-checking the type Chapter. This will now be a marker that can be used as a dual layer break point but is not a chapter marker.
You'll need to re-build the project and check the format window options again,

  • How to add chapter markers for each file in a folder?

    Hello,
I have several image folders with up to 700 images per. I would like to drag & drop them into the timeline but I want to be able to use the chapter/arrow button on the DVD player remote to scroll through them.....like a videoscrapbook, per se.
Is there a setting that will allow me to drop them into the time line and automatically generate a chapter marker for each image, that will be read on export to DVDSP? Surely, there is something like this built in that I just have not yet found; I cannot believe the only alternative is to manually add 700 chapter markers per folder. And do they always go into the timeline in alphabetical order? Can that be prevented or altered?
Also, doesn't it seem strange there is no single-button option (I'm presuming here, since I have not found one) for adding a chapter marker; the '~' button adds a generic marker but you must 'edit' it and click 'chapter marker' - very time-consuming --- or am I missing something here, too? If so please enlighten me! I've experimented a lot but no luck.
    Many thanks!
    jf

I thought there was a folder size limitation on DVDSP - these folders have digital family photos on them and they are jam-packed; 600, 700, whatever. And there are several of them. I guess I thought putting them in FCP was the only way to avoid the limitation - if there is one.
I'll try putting them straight into DVDSP and see what happens. Thanks!

  • Odd Photo Sharing Behavior

Made one of my routine full backup copy of my primary Managed Library (775 GB). Both copies functioned AOK, even though this backup copy was done and mounted on the USB dock. Went on day trip with grandchildren, came back and imported new photos to primary (backup no longer mounted).
Decided to share an album from the new trip project to my Apple TV 2, but in iTunes found the option to select projects and albums was unavailable -- just the full Library, at least that choice was available.
Checked that were I to choose to Share from the iPhoto Library, the selection choices were available. Opened other Aperture libraries, both in my normal User Account, and in other test user accounts. In all cases the option to choose specific projects or albums was fully available.
Looked at the Package of the primary Aperture Library, and found the iPod Photo Cache file apparently devoid of content, although structurally various folders were there -- this finding based upon size measurement.
Opened the backup of the Library and the option to choose projects and albums to Share fully available. Checked the Package of that backup copy, and found the iPod Photo Cache file to have size indicating content.
Reopened the primary Library, and exported the one new project added after my backup action thinking that I would import that into the backup library, and then transfer the iPod Photo Cache file from that library's package to the main library's Package. But on a whim, I checked in iTunes again and found the option to share only selected projects and albums was now fully available. Rechecked the size of the iPod Photo Cache file in the primary library, and it now had size of an expected amount.
Tested from ATV2, and the previous selections of albums were restored -- previous attempts while this was being investigated failed.
So the action to export a project as a New Library, or some other action resulted in the iPod Photo Cache being restored, and full functionality to Share also restored. Where had the content of the iPod Photo Cache file with my limited selection of albums to share been hiding is not a question I expect to be answerable, but it was probably in the Info.plist or another file in the package, which I now can no longer confirm.
It seems clear, however, that the listing of what to share is contained only at the Library level, in a file or files at the Package level, and not in any preference general to the use of Aperture in the User Account at large. This is one important clue as to why you can only choose one Aperture Library or one iPhoto Library, or one folder at a time to share.

I get the exact same response when I select more than one photo to share via Messages. It's obviously a bug in iPhoto so send a bug report to Apple via http://www.apple.com/feedback/iphoto.html.  Include the URL to this topic as will I.
What is happening the ShareKitHelper system component is locking up and only a reboot will clear it up:
UPDATE:  just tested with 1, 2, 3 and 4 photos selected and the problem didn't appear until 4 photos were selected at once.

  • Load and resize a SWF inside a MC

    Hi,
I'm using AS2 to load an SWF inside an MC. The MC measures
800x600, while the SWF (which can vary in size) measures in this
case 14x60, even though, looking at it, it seems to be about half
the size of the hosting MC. This makes me think that the dimension
scales are different. I'm loading the SWF using MovieClipLoader and
I'd like to resize it so that it fits as proportionally snug as
possible within the MC. How can I do this? If I try to resize the
SWF to the MC's dimensions, it become way too large and goes off
screen. If instead I try to rescale the hosting MC to fit around
the SWF, the SWF itself rescales as well. I'm going nuts! How can
    accomplish this?
    Thank you,
    Tatiana

To make things simple, I'd like to take an existing SWF (the
picture) and load it into a FIXED SIZED MC (the frame) and I'd like
to rescale the SWF so that it fits perfectly into the frame.
By all means, I know that what you said should work and I
admit my inexperience with AS2, but somehow the SWF's I'm loading
in, have scales that are totally different with respect to my
Stage. I even tried loading the SWF directly onto the stage and
then I loaded the frame separately onto the stage and tried to
resize it to the SWF's _width and _height. The frame became a tiny
dot on the screen, while the SWF filled half of my Stage.
    Thanks again for your help.

  • Photo resizing question

Hello, I'm using Lightroom 5 and have a question regarding the file size.  A photo I took with a Nikon D90 was downloaded and is 5.7 mb, I processed it and some cropping and color corrections came out amazing, my question is this.  The corrected size has been downloaded to a file but reduced to 622 kb, quite a bit smaller than the original.  Was this done by an automatic setting?  I'm asking because the corrected version is scheduled to be sent to a printer who is going to make some 8X10 color handout cards (the photo is of a race car) for the public and I was concerned that the quality might be different as the re-sizing.  I've not heard back from the printer so I was trying to get some info about this issue.  Thanks for any help that might be issued.

Exporting as a JPG will normally result in a decrease in FILE size, but not a reduction in IMAGE size. So, this is perfectly normal, and I don't see this as unusual or worrisome.
Furthermore, you are looking at the wrong measure. FILE size and megabytes tells you nothing, and will mislead you. Thus, I suggest to you that the comparison of going from 5.7 megabytes to 622 kilobytes is completely meaningless and useless. The IMAGE size, measured in megapixels, (or equivalently dimensions width x height) is what you need to be paying attention to. If you want to print at 8x10, and you use the "usual" level of quality of 300 pixels per inch, then you need 2400x3000 pixels (or more) in your exported photo. But you don't tell us what the IMAGE size is.
