Size of BW System

Hi - I have had a number of people (SAP and independents) tell me my BW system will be approx. 3 times the size of my R3 system?  Nobody can substantiate this other than pointing me towards the sizer tools.  Without pointing me to the sizer tools - are there any rules of thumb?  Is it the way the data is taken from R3 and subsequently changed in BW?
Any help would be much appreciated.
Andy

Hi Andy,
There are some standard tools like 'quicksize', by SAP. this tool once run, gives idea about server sizing, netwok bandwidth required etc. for further details please logon to service.sap.com and u will get more details.
Apart for that there are also many thumbrules arised based on factors like existing database size, data churning capacity, expected query reponse time, database duplication, daily data load size, geographical spread of users and their usage load, data communication of BW system with other system etc.
These factors are considered at initial place while purchasing requisite hardware, also been considered as ongoing activity.
Hope this helps you.
Assign the points if it helps you.

    When I transferred my data from a 128GB Macbook Air to 256GB Macbook Air (brand new version as of 9/1/13) I end up with 188GB used!   I add up the size of Users, System, Library and Applications and it comes to 90GB.  What am I missing?  How did I "use" up so much space in migrating from one Mac to another?

    Did you use the Setup Assistant available at the beginning of the new machine's setup process? Or did you use Migration Assistant later after you had set up the new machine?
    If you used Migration Assistant, you generally wind up with two accounts (the new one you set up on the new machine plus the old one you ported over) - that may explain your excessive use of space. In that case, you can either manually combine/remove all unnecessary duplicate files, or you can start over by using Command + R, wiping your drive, and downloading the OS. Once it's downloaded, use the Setup Assistant offered at the beginning of the install/setup process.

  • Get I/O buffer size of operating system...

    Hi ,
    Is there any script in Oracle which will display the I/O buffer size of operating system i use???
    I need it in order to set appropriately the parameter DB_FILE_MULTIBLOCK_READ_COUNT.
    Thanks , a lot
    Simon

    Hi ,
    I found a script in order to find the IO buffer size of operating system. This is as follows:
    create tablespace tester datafile 'C:\oracle\product\10.2.0\oradata\EPESY\test.dbf' size 10M reuse
    default storage (initial 1M next 1m pctincrease 0)
    create table testing tablespace tester
    as select * from all_objects
    where rownum<50000
    select relative_fno from dba_data_files
    where tablespace_name='TESTER'
    select phyrds,phyblkrd from v$filestat where file#=<#relative_fno#>
    select count(*) from testing
    select phyrds,phyblkrd from v$filestat where file#=<#relative_fno#>
    In an example - explaining the above example- there were the following figures:
    select phyrds,phyblkrd from v$filestat where file#=<#relative_fno#>
    PHYRDS PHYBLKRD
    154 1220
    The test ends up by dividing the PHYBLKRD by the PHYRDS . So in the above example it yields a result of 7.92 which is close to 8 - so the effective multiblock read count is 8.
    NOTE : The words underlined are of the author words not mine.
    I run the above script and i found a figure about 10.85. So which may be the effective multiblock read count...??????
    Thanks , a lot

  • How to change font size in Finder system wide?

    Hi all, I'm wanting to increase the size of the font in 'Finder' in my folders. I've increased the size of fonts in Firefox and it looks much better. I went into 'Finder', 'Show View Options' and I can change the size of fonts, but it's for every individual folder not for all the folders on the system...
    I'm running Mavericks.
    Thanks!

    You can set the font size for the Finder, when you open the folders iin icon view, then the button "Use as default" will be available.

  • How to get the database size of several system

    Hi
    We've got a lot of database system on our landscape. I want to make a simple report to get the size the all our database on a weekly base.
    I try to get a RZ20 value on it without succes.
    Do you know a sql request that i could launch on all my database to get this information ? i did'nt find any V$^view with this information.
    thanks for your help
    florent

    "The database size" can be
    - the total size
    - the filled size
    - the filled size without undo/temp
    You can use DBACOCKPIT to centrally manage multiple instance and check the sizes.

  • How to increase Font Size in whole system ?

    Hi,
    Iam definitely lost. Iam using my Mac mini as home tv media center and the resolution on TV is 1920 (FULL HD). The problem is that all the letters are so tiny.
    Please can you help with set up the system. And of course excuse my english.
    Thank you
    A.P.

    That's a problem
    You can increase the font size on the Desktop, you can increase the dock size, you can increase the font size in browser, but you CAN'T increase the size of the menu bar and menu items.
    Can also zoom in (System Preferences -> Universal Access -> Seeing -> Zoom -> On
    But that makes a) the display very pixelated and b) you have to scroll around through the content.
    Would be nice if Apple would make the GUI of Lion resolution independent scaleable

  • Extracted Data size in sender system

    Hi,
    How to we know the size of the extracted data is sender system before loading data into the receiver system? Which phase in TDMS tree would provide us details?
    Thanks.

    Hi,
    In order to get an approximate data transfer volume,
    First you will have to enable Size Prediction in activity "De- / Activate Size Prediction for Receiver System" in System Analysis Phase.
    Then, post running of the optional activity "Fill header tables (Collective Exec.) (Optional)", we have an activity "Display Data Transfer Volume (Optional)" which would show the approximate data that would be transferred to your target system
    But note that this would mean extra runtime since the optional Fill Header Activity too would need to be executed.

  • Size limitation for system-jazn.xml

    Hi helping hands,
    In sytem-jazn-data.xml and users-properties.xml , I want to include 1 lakh users. When I tried 1 lakh users,the bpel engine is not getting restarted.
    However I tried with 50k list of users, it works very fine.
    Is there any file size limitations are there for those 2 files.
    Could you suggest me an idea.
    Regards
    Viki

    Hi,
    I had to lookup what 1 lakh means and it appears to be 100.000? You should not put that many users in the system-jazn.xml file, not even 1000. It results in poor performance. You definitly should switch to OID or any other third party ldap server if you have that many users.
    Kind Regards,
    Andre

  • Is it possible to set the heap size limits in system-wide config?

    Hi,
    I am trying to set the JRE heap size limits (-Xms and -Xmx) by using the system-level deployment.properties file. The JRE version is 1.6 update 6.
    Normally, I would have something like this in the user-level deployment.properties file:
    deployment.javapi.jre.1.6.0_06.args=-Xms64M -Xmx192MHowever, when the same line is put in the system-level properties, it does not seem to have any effect. I have tried different options, also unsuccessfully:
    javaplugin.vm.options=-Xms64M -Xmx192M
    or
    javaplugin.minHeapSize=64m
    javaplugin.maxHeapSize=192mIs it not possible to address this setting via system-level properties at all? I am hoping that I will not have to resort to per-user config files.
    Best regards,
    Martin

    Hi Michael,
    thank you for your answer. I am sorry, I was unable to find the link to the message 10144001.
    My ultimate goal would be setting the system level settings as opposed to settings per applet. I was unable to find any mentioning of "deployment.javapi.jre.X.X.X_XX.args" in the official documentation here: http://java.sun.com/j2se/1.5.0/docs/guide/deployment/deployment-guide/properties.html
    Best regards,
    Martin

  • Oracle's block size and operative system cluster

    hallo,
    I would like to move our oracle's database 10.2g from server in a datacenter with Vmware environment, where the net admin will install windows 2008 with 64 bit.
    Now, the net admin strong believe that if oracle's block size is near at size of cluster of the cooked filesystem, oracle perfomance will increase, and he wants to set oracle's block size to 64 K
    It's a right idea or a mistake?
    thanks' in advance anyone answers.

    I think he's probably had more experience with SQL Server - which is more closely integrated with the operating system, which means this type of thinking can be of some help. SQL Server has a fixed extent size of 64K (8 x 8KB pages) and an algorithm that allows it to use readahead on extents, so it's fairly common practice to synchronise the SQL Server extents with the operating system allocation unit - which is why, historically, SQL Server admins would set up the O/S with a 64KB allocation unit and fuss about aligning the allocation unit properly on the hardware.
    This type of thinking is not quite so important in Oracle systems.

  • How to get swap size by using system call?

    How can I get the size of swap.What system call or library Routines can be used? please help me.

    Hi,
    Threre's an interface called swap_ctl by wich you can get more information related to virtual memory. Here's an example:
    #include <stdio.h>
    #include <stdlib.h>
    #include <unistd.h>
    #include <sys/stat.h>
    #include <sys/swap.h>
    #include <sys/param.h>
    int
    main(int argc, char*argv[])
    swaptbl_t *st;
    int swap_count, i;
    long long swap_total=0, swap_avail=0;
    long pgsize_in_kbytes = sysconf(_SC_PAGE_SIZE) / 1024L;
    if ((swap_count=swapctl(SC_GETNSWP, NULL)) == -1)
    perror("swapctl(SC_GETNSWP)"), exit(-1);
    if (swap_count == 0)
    (void)printf("No swap files/partitions allocated\n"), exit(0);
    * Although it's not particularly clear in the documentation, you're
    * responsible for creating a variable length structure (ie. the
    * array is within the struct rather than being pointed to
    * by the struct). Also, it is necessary for you to allocate space
    * for the path strings (see /usr/include/sys/swap.h).
    st = (swaptbl_t*)malloc(sizeof(int) + swap_count * sizeof(struct swapent));
    if (st == NULL)
    perror(argv[0]), exit(-1);
    st->swt_n = swap_count;
    for (i=0; i < swap_count; i++) {
    if ((st->swt_ent.ste_path = (char*)malloc(MAXPATHLEN)) == NULL)
    perror(argv[0]), exit(-1);
    if ((swap_count=swapctl(SC_LIST, (void*)st)) == -1)
    perror("swapctl(SC_LIST)"), exit(-1);
    for (i=0; i < swap_count; i++) {
    swap_total += st->swt_ent.ste_pages * pgsize_in_kbytes;
    swap_avail += st->swt_ent.ste_free * pgsize_in_kbytes;
    (void)printf("Total swap = %lld available swap = %lld\n",
    swap_total, swap_avail);
    return 0;
    There's a very interesting document about Solaris Kernel/Performance Stats available at http://www.idiom.com/~gford/admin/howto/perf.html. Very interesting.

  • Size of a system

    Hi gurus
    How to calculate the system size?
    thanx in advance
    vidhu

    Hi,
    do you want to perform a sizing activity or just see the size of your DB?
    For the latter use Tx DB02.
    hope this helps...

  • How can I reduce size of the SYSTEM datafile?

    Hi All,
    I recently installed Oracle 9i Enterprise addition on Windows XP Pro. Everything went smoothly. However, I foolishly created a database with large space requirements in the default tablespace (SYSTEM) and this caused the datafile for the SYSTEM tables space to grow to 8 Gig. I dropped the tables and tried to shrink the datafile with the 'alter database datafile resize' command but the command failed indicating that the tablespace had data byond the reize amount. However, this is claerly not true since the OEM indicates that the tablespace is only 4% utilized.
    How can I reset the high water mark for the SYSTEM tablespace so that I can resize the datafile?

    you'll have to rebuild the db if you can't resize the system ts
    to reset the high water mark you would have to truncate the system tables, don't think you want to do that

  • Pixel Size of Android System Bar on 7" Tablets

    I can't seem to find this information anywhere. Pre-Honeycomb I believe there was no System Bar. I'm reluctant to purchase a 7" device just to check this once.
    Does anybody have experience with this. With 10.1" Tablets the pixel bar is 48 pixels high, is it the same on 7" Tablets at 1024x600 ?

    If anyone's interested, it appears to still be 48 pixels on the 7" device.

  • How do I determine expected output size for System Exec vi

    I am running a DOS exe from a Batch file using the System Exec vi. My exe is programming software for a microcontroller and passes data to the programmer via the serial port. When I run the batch file externaly to LabView it works fine. When I run the same batch file using the System Exec vi I get an error from the programmer app (DOS app). Not every time but usually within 20 attempts. I reduced the execution priority of my vi's to give more time to the DOS window. This seems to have helped but hasn't solved the problem completely. I read in the help file that LabView will run more efficiently if you specifiy the expected output size in the System Exec vi, but how do I determine it? Is the expected output
    size the size of the bat file I call?

    If you think it is due to timing, and you wish to yield to the DOS app,
    don't just lower the priority of LV, but use Wait ms to put overeager
    diagram elements to sleep and limit their loop rate. Use the task
    manager or performance monitor of the computer to determint if this is
    the issue.
