Size of .mov and encoding time

Hey.
Does anyone know the appoximate size of a 40 min .mov movie and after imported in DVS Studio Pro 2- how long does it take to encode it? Minutes? Hours? Days?

How long do I have to watch a rented movie?
You have 30 days from the time of rental to watch your movie, and 24 hours (in the US) or 48 hours (elsewhere) after you've started viewing to finish it. Once the rental period expires, the movie will disappear from your iTunes library.

HT201177 I am trying to create home movies and each time there is no sound when I play back the disc. The sound is there when I play back in imovie and also after I've shared with idvd and played back. Not sure what else to do???

I am trying to create home movies, and do not have sound on the final disc. The sound is there in imovie and after sharing to idvd. This has only happened a couple of times before and I have made a lot of movies. I have just gone through about 8 discs, all with no audio when I play them!!!

You need to ask for support in the iMovie forum.

I am currently using media fork to encode my movies and encoding them H.264

then when I click on them to bring them to itunes the format says mpeg4, my question is how do we know if a movie is in h.264. Is there anyway to tell and do you know if maybe when we take them to itunes somehting is happenning where they turn into mpeg4.

If you go to the file itself (outside of iTunes in the folders) and open the file in QuickTime Player, View -> Show Movie Info and in the resulting window there is a section for Format which will indicate specific encoding used like H.264, Sorenson Video, etc.

My movie freeze some time

Dear All,
I just frate a movie with iMovie. Now the movie take 45mn and I still have to add sequences.
I watched again the movie and some time the movie freeze whilw the music continue and then the movie continue from the music step. Some time it the same . It like if there were not enough RAM, I do not know.
Does some know why?
It's because the is too much imported movies?
What is the recommanded max time of a movie?

Font sizing and Encoding information are reset each time

I am using iSql*plus against a UTF8 database to view multilingual text .. I found that I have to reset the encoding and the size information on the IE browser each time I execute a SELECT statement ...
For example I have select ename from emp ... Now change my encoding to UTF8 and Font size to Large ... Next amend the statement to select one more column say deptno, the sizing and encoding information is reset and I need to set them again .. Is this a known issue ?

We've managed to reproduce the problem in-house. It doesn't seem to occur in Navigator, but does in IE. I suspect it may be a problem with IE, but I'm not sure. I've logged a bug and it will be looked at.

Borderless movie and screen size

I have made a borderless movie skin (http://www.macosxtips.co.uk/index_files/borderless-quicktime-movies.php). But I am having great difficulty getting the video to fit on the screen correctly.
The video is 640x960. I want it to play on a borderless movie screen that is 275x413. When the movie starts the screen is 275x413, but the video doesn't even show up. I have tried EVERYTHING - fit to screen, full screen, I have rescaled the movie in the properties. I even took the original movie and resaved it at 275x413 so that it would be the exact size at the screen I am using. The results I get are just plain inconsistent. Sometimes the movie isn't on the screen. Other times it is offset (and yes, I tried changing the offset in the properties.). I have gotten it to work a couple times but not consistantly.
I simply want the movie to play at a certain size with no borders. Seems like an easy thing to ask for but apparently not.
I can drag a corner and resize it either. Apparently this does not work with out a border, I am going nuts with this. Can anyone offer any help?

Hate to answer my own question, but I figured out a way to do what I want.
1. open movie file in QT.
2. Resize it and save.
3. Open file with skin movie (see link in my orig post).
4. then view < normal.
It basically fits it to the screen which is the exact dimensions of the movie. If I do not view<normal then the movie is offset I can not even see it. And resetting the offset does nothing.
If anyone has a better way (less steps) to get a borderless movie to resize and fit to screen, please let me know. This works but it is cumbersome.

I don't have an iPad to test this, so I can only refer you to Apple's Podcast Tech Specs page:

This says that the maximum video size for an iPad is 1024x768 - your latest episode is 1280x720.
Slightly confusingly, it also says
'iPad & Apple TV can play the following video formats:
H.264 video up to 720p, 30 frames per second, Main Profile level 3.1 with AAC-LC audio up to 160 Kbps per channel, 48kHz, stereo audio in .m4v, .mp4, and .mov file formats
MPEG-4 video, up to 2.5 Mbps, 640 by 480 pixels, 30 frames per second, Simple Profile with AAC-LC audio up to 160 Kbps, 48kHz, stereo audio in .m4v, .mp4, and .mov file formats

which suggests that mp4 files are even more limited.

However when downloaded this produces a file called 'howtosetupappeid.mp4' so soe sort of redirect appears to be in place, and these can sometimes cause trouble. It's better to link directly to the file - it's possible that the iPad doesn't handle the redirect.
That's all I can suggest: if it still doesn't cover the problem I can only refer you to the iPad forum where someone may be able to actually try your podcast and offer a comment.

New iMac movie encoding times?

Thinking about getting a new 20" iMac, but am wondering what is the typical encoding time for a movie using iDVD 6? Right now I'm using iDVD 4 and a PM dual 1ghz G4, and encoding takes about 4-6 hours for a one hour movie.
Hopefully this is much faster on a Core 2 Duo iMac, or should I consider a low end Mac Pro (or wait and decide on Tuesday, 9/12?)

Very interesting results, thanks for that. So, I imagine a 20" 2.16ghz iMac might be about 4-5% faster than the 17" 2.0 iMac. This looks like the 20" iMac is 10% slower than a Mac Pro but costs albut 60% less!
I was leaning towards a Mac Pro, as I thought it was overkill for my needs, and these results seem to validate that thinking to some degree. The only downside to the iMac is this will probably be the last upgrade to this motherboard, as the next will be Conroe or some variant which is not drop in like Merom.
Hopefully a 'mini tower' will come soon and I can get the best of both, price and power. If not, then I've got to decide iMac or Mac Pro.

Can you connect to a wifi source on the device? Enable wifi in settings on the device itself. If you don't have wifi at home, there may be a local hotspot you can use for this.
The reason this happens is carriers don't want people downloading huge files that would slow their network as well as eat up your data plan.

Just use the archive utility on the disk page of the airport utility manual setup..
If you have lion and v6 airport utility.. it missed out. On lots of things.

This is bit of a Nightmare situation - and there can be a zillion reasons for why it goes wrong. See if You might find help in my list.
When iMovie doesn't work as intended this can be due to a lot of reasons
• iMovie Pref files got corrupted - trash it/they and iMovie makes new and error free one's
• Creating a new User-Account and log into this - forces iMovie to create all pref. files new and error free
• Event or Project got corrupted - try to make a copy and repair
• a codec is used that doesn't work
• problem in iMovie Cache folder - trash Cache.mov and Cache.plist
• version miss match of QuickTime Player / iMovie / iDVD
• preferences are wrong - Repair Preferences
• other hard disk problem - Repair Hard Disk (Disk Util tool - but start Mac from ext HD or DVD)
• External hard disks - MUST BE - Mac OS Extended (hfs) formatted to work with Video
( UNIX/DOS/FAT32/Mac OS Exchange - works for most other things - but not for Video )
• USB-flash-memories do not work
• Net-work connected hard disks - do not work
• iPhoto Library got problems - let iPhoto select another one or repair it. Re-build this first then try to re-start iMovie.
This You do by
_ close iPhoto
_ on start up of iPhoto - Keep {cmd and alt-keys down}
_ now select all five options presented
_ WAIT a long long time
• free space on Start-Up (Mac OS) hard disk to low (<1Gb) - I never go under 25Gb free space for SD-Video (4-5 times more for HD)
• external devices interferes - turn off Mac - disconnect all of them and - Start up again and re-try
• GarageBand fix - start GB - play a few notes - Close it again and now try iMovie
• Screen must be set to million-colors
• Third-party plug-ins doesn't work OK
• Run "Cache Out X", clear out all caches and restarts the Mac
• Let Your Mac be turned on during one night. At about midnight there is a set of maintenance programs that runs and tidying up. This might help
• Turn off Your Mac - and disconnect Mains - for about 20-30 minutes - at least this resets the FireWire port.
• In QuickTime - DivX, 3ivx codec, Flip4Mac, Perian etc - might be problematic - temporarily move them out and re-try
(I deleted the file "3ivxVideoCodec.component" located in Mac HD/Library/Quicktime and this resolved my issue.)

I try to delete these extra insertions, but the mouse will not release the clip.
Action I’ve taken: I’ve re-installed Premiere Elements 13. Problem remains.

I tried using the Guest Account on my Mac. In the Guest Account, Illustrator works perfect!
Then I started wondering what processes (tools/tweaks) I run by default on my account. Turned out the problem was called by a little background tool called RightZoom. RightZoom let's the green 'zoom' button always maximize your current window.
So thanks! Problem solved!
