Size of new document on screen

I use InCopy every day, and one thing that annoys me to no end is when I create a new document or open an existing document on my beautiful 20" iMac, by default the document occupies a window that spans my entire screen. That's not very conducive to multi-tasking. So, each and every time, I resize the window. Is there a hidden setting somewhere to change the size of InCopy document windows by default? To have it take up half a screen instead of the entire screen? Like every other Mac application out there?
Oh, and I'd also rather open my documents in Story mode rather than Layout mode. Is there a way to make Story mode the default view?
Thanks.
InCopy CS3 Version 5.0.4
Mac OSX 10.4.11
Intel iMac

Stephen,
Take the following steps to address the question about the default view:
1. Start InCopy CS3. Do not open a document
2. Go to the View Menu
3. Select 'Story View'
4. Open an InCopy article
It should open in that view.

  • Image size for new document changes

    We need to submit a file 6.125" x 4.125" at 300dpi to our printer. This has never been a problem before. Photoshop changes our custom document size from the entered dimensions to 6.127" x 4.127". This is a problem. Anyone else having this issue? Adobe's answer was to change the resolution to 300.1 dpi which seems like a weird hack. We have tried to unclick the proportion constrain link and you still can't get the exact size.
    Thanks

    Unavoidable. An image consists of pixels. Photoshop is rounding to the nearest whole pixel.

  • TextEdit new document window starts off screen

    In TextEdit, if I create a new document, the window stretches off the bottom of the screen. The bounds of the window are {133, 53, 760, 882}. This behaviour takes place when the preference setting 'Wrap to page' is checked. If I create a second new document window while the first is still open, it fits within the screen at {154, 22, 781, 851} (it moves up to the right by 21 pixels). How can I get the first document to start within the screen's real estate?
    If it is unchecked, the co-ordinates of the upper left corner of the new window are {133, 53}. The size of the window depends upon the font size. Note that the upper left corner also remains the same if I change paper sizes.
    I have deleted the preferences but nothing has changed.
    Does anyone know how to control the size and location of a new document window, with the 'wrap' feature checked?
    Thanks.

    On my machines, wrap to page is enabled and I have window size set to 80x70 which works for me for years.

  • New Document Size GB not MB

    Why when i open a new document (starting from a blank canvas) at 300x300; my Image Size starts at 23GB and not MBs something doesnt seem right and my font size is EXTREMELY tiny?

    Could be one of two things:
    1.) If your document is 300x300 inches, the text is going to look tiny because the file is so big.
    2.) You're default text could be really small. Double click on your Type layer to select all of the text and then change the point size in the Control panel at the top of your screen.

  • Issue with new documents size ?

    I open a new document at a resolution of 300 and the file size and view of the document on screen at 100% looks like a 75 resolution document . I think there is a bug or error in the program .How might this be fixed ?

    Also, here:
    i tried one with a 75 res and one with a 300 res and the doc file and doc size is identical at 100% on screen .
    you are confusing two different kinds of resolution. If you set the size in pixels, that is an absolute size no matter what ppi resolution you choose. 75 or 300 ppi makes no difference at all until it's time to print. In either case your document is going to be 315 pixels high by 850 pixels wide. The same number of overall pixels either way. The ppi just tells the printer how much to squoosh them together.
    If, on the other hand, you set a size in inches/cms, then choosing a different ppi  at the start will radically change the pixel dimensions of the file. So a file which is 5" x 10" at 100 ppi will be 500 pixels by 1000 pixels, while a 5 x 10  set up at 300 ppi will be 1500 pixels by 3000.

  • Why can't I create a custom size in a new document in CS4?

    I just recently re-installed CS4 onto another computer and now I can't select "Custom" in the size when creating a new document.

    Just enter the desired values and then it will be called "custom" by itself.

    This "error note" must have something to do about it?

    elppaelo,
    You may try the list.
    The following is a general list of things you may try when the issue is not in a specific file (you may have tried/done some of them already); 1) and 2) are the easy ones for temporary strangenesses, and 3) and 4) are specifically aimed at possibly corrupt preferences); 5) is a list in itself, and 6) is the last resort.
    If possible/applicable, you should save curent artwork first, of course.
    1) Close down Illy and open again;
    2) Restart the computer (you may do that up to 3 times);
    3) Close down Illy and press Ctrl+Alt+Shift/Cmd+Option+Shift during startup (easy but irreversible);
    4) Move the folder (follow the link with that name) with Illy closed (more tedious but also more thorough and reversible);
    5) Look through and try out the relevant among the Other options (follow the link with that name, Item 7) is a list of usual suspects among other applications that may disturb and confuse Illy, Item 15) applies to CC, CS6, and maybe CS5);
    Even more seriously, you may:
    6) Uninstall, run the Cleaner Tool (if you have CS3/CS4/CS5/CS6/CC), and reinstall.

  • Pasteboard size is huge when I create a new document

    When I create a new document or open an old document in InDesign CS4, the pasteboard is huge. For example creating an 8.5x11 document results in a pasteboard that is 36 inches wide buy 12 inches high. I have read all the solutions posed in other threads and none of them help restore the pasteboard to a reasonable size.
    I typically create a document with 0,0,0,0 for margins. Minimum vertical offset for pasteboard in preferences in 1 in.
    I uninstalled and reinstalled InDesign but the problem is still there. The problem is global (any and all documents i open).
    Does anyone know why this is happening and how to fix it?

    Are you sure facing pages wasn't selected when you created the document? How many pages are there?
    The standard pasteboard dimension is 25.5" wide for non-facing 8.5" wide pages. As far as being a waste of space, you'd be surprised at how often you might need to move a page-wide object onto the pasteboard and still have the ability to see or edit the whole thing.

  • How do I set up new Document Profile with custom page sizes?

    I see that different profiles have different sets of page sizes. I need a set of page sizes which I use often, and I would like to create a set of these sizes in a new profile, or at least somehow add them to the very minimal set of page sizes which can be selected when setting up a new document. Can this be done?

    Thanks Jerron, I have done this but it only adds one document at one size to the list of presets. The list of sizes that comes with it is the same as the preset it was created from originally. What I would like to do is add to the list of sizes which comes with any one of the document presets or create a new one with a new list of sizes.

  • Trouble keeping photo size when dragging and dropping photo into new document on elements 12

    When trying to place an image into a new document in photoshop elements 12, I select all-copy-paste the image (or even drag it) over to the new doc created.  However, when I do this - the image does not paste in at the same size.  It typically shrinks down in size.   Do I have to save the file, close out and then open the new doc and PLACE it in the document in order for it to keep size?  There must be a better way to do this.  Basically, how can I drag a photo that is 4x6 over to a new doc while keeping the size at 4x6.  Any help would be much appreciated.

    Whenever you combine two images, the resolution (ppi) of the bottom image is the resolution for everything. So if you take an image that is, say, 72 ppi, and paste that into an image at 300 ppi, the pasted object will shrink a lot. If you paste a high-res image into a low res image, the pasted object will enlarge a lot. The best way to get consistent results is to make sure that both images are at the same resolution (image>resize>image size) before you start.

  • Microsoft word: size of document on screen

    Hi,
    I have installed word on my macbook but can not work out how to increase the size of the documents (which right now are tiny!!). There is a full screen option but this does not actually increase the size of the document on the screen.
    I have asked at my local Apple store (there was a microsoft trainer instore that day too)-neither the Apple guy or the Microsoft guy could work it out.
    Hope someone out there can help....

    Just go to the bottom right of the document where you will see 3 little lines. Click on that and drag it across the screen. After that you can customize the zoom setting to 200%. That's how I do my school work and it is plenty big and takes up the whole screen.

  • JS - Center Selection to Artboard / New Document with certain Artboard size

    TL;DR:
    how do I center my current selection to the artboard?
    just like hitting the "horizontal align-center" and "vertical align-center" buttons.
    Hi,
    I've been searching for the last two hours and before my head hits the keyboard I wanted to ask you for help.
    What I'm struggling with:
    in my init function i create a new document and then copy all layers from the previous document step by step to the new document and then save it as SVG.
    // Init
    (function(){
              destination = Folder.selectDialog('Select folder for SVG files.', docPath);
              if (!destination){return;}
              holderDoc = app.documents.add();
              stepThroughAndExportLayers(docRef.layers);
    my problem is that holderDoc = app.documents.add(); always creates a document that is not the same size as my initial document where the layers get copied from.
    so I want the exact same artboard size as in my initial document.
    I'm fine with either doing it as fixed values or taking directly the values of the inital doc.
    i tried this in the segment where I create the new document:
    // Init
    (function(){
      destination = Folder.selectDialog('Select folder for SVG files.', docPath);
      if (!destination){return;}
      holderDoc = app.documents.add();
      holderDoc.artboards[0].artboardRect = [0,0,128,128];
      stepThroughAndExportLayers(docRef.layers);
    and get this error message:
    "Error 1200: an Illustrator error occured: 1346458189 ('PARM')
    Line: 83
    -> holderDoc.artboards[0].artboardRect = [0,0,128,128];"
    which from what I've read on the web means that illustrator doesnt know what document to pick. but i have called it directly. so what could be the issue?
    to clearify: I do not want to fit the artboard to the images/layer. the artboard should always have a certain size. (for me 128px by 128px)
    I would highly appreciate you helping me with either fixing my approach or propose a completely new one.
    Thanks so much in advance.
    // edit: workaround
    (function(){
              destination = Folder.selectDialog('Select folder for SVG files.', docPath);
              if (!destination){return;}
              var activeArtboard = app.activeDocument.artboards[app.activeDocument.artboards.getActiveArtboardIndex()];
              var ABRect = activeArtboard.artboardRect;
              holderDoc = app.documents.add();
              holderDoc.artboards.add(ABRect);
              holderDoc.artboards.remove(0);
              holderDoc.artboards.setActiveArtboardIndex(0);
              //stepThroughAndExportLayers(docRef.layers);
    i now added a new artboard to the new document with the same size as the artboard on the initial document.
    i remove the predefined artboard on the new doc and set the new artboard as active.
    BUT!
    the artboard is now not centered into the window. which lets illustrator place my image with ctrl+c -> ctrl+v somewhere outside the artboard.
    i now need to align my selection to the center of the artboard. but i cant find any reference on how to center a selection to the artboard.

    yes of course. i never modify the author's comments in original scripts.
    but I wont post the script anywhere when it doesnt work anyway haha.
    this is what I've done now:
    // Init
    (function(){
              destination = Folder.selectDialog('Select folder for SVG files.', docPath);
              if (!destination){return;}
              var activeArtboard = app.activeDocument.artboards[app.activeDocument.artboards.getActiveArtboardIndex()];
              var ABRect = activeArtboard.artboardRect;
              // create new document with same artboard as original
              holderDoc = app.documents.add(DocumentColorSpace.RGB, new UnitValue ((Math.abs(ABRect[0]-ABRect[2])), "px"), new UnitValue ((Math.abs(ABRect[0]-ABRect[2])), "px"));
              stepThroughAndExportLayers(docRef.layers);
    in order to create the new document with the same dimensions as my orignal doc, I first read the artboardRect dimensions of the current artboard and then create the document with those values passed as parameters. the calculation is to get the real width since artboardRect gives you left,top,right,bottom values and not just height and width.
    this only works for square formats though. to make it properly you'd have to change the second "new UnitValue" to use the top and bottom values of artboardRect but I currently dont need to do so.

  • Setting english as the default language for a new document with arabic version of CC apps

    first off, appologies for the screen name, the name i'm sure i had registered before with account was suppose dot be looged in as was barred, so i used this in frustration.  Read the book, The Etymologicon to learn more.
    and another note.  why is the font size in the subject on this form gigantic? intentional of cockup?
    Now, to the point.
    Please please enlighten me, I'm sure it's simple but i can't find the answer and have been haphazardly ploughing the net for half the night.
    I have installed the Arabic langauge version of CC software becuase i need to do a lot of bilingual layouts.
    But
    I generally use, and start with english, but the defualt new document is always set to all the arabic settings, which is a nightmare.
    How do i make english the defualt type (and all the paragraph and language options) while retaining the functionaility of arabic version.
    I've found instructions for CS2-6 but nothing remotely sensible about CC, and presume i'm missing something really really obvious.
