Size of portrait-orientation images in Flash gallery

I've created a website using Lightroom. It uses the Flash engine with the "Paginate" option. I specified "large" for both thumbnails and images. With the monitor resolution set at 1280 by 1024, there are 200 pictures in the gallery, and these are displayed on the left-hand part of the screen as ten pages of 20 pictures each (4 columns, 5 rows).
When in gallery view (which is the default) any portrait-orientation images on the right-hand half of the screen are a bit smaller than I'd like; they're the same height as landscape-orientation images. If, however, I switch to the slideshow view, portrait-orientation images are displayed larger, using the available space more effectively. What's weird is that if I switch back to the gallery view, the portrait-orientation images are still displayed as they were under the slideshow. (The same thing happens under IE and Firefox.)
So, if I run the website without using the slideshow button, portrait-orientation images are one size (too small in my opinion). But if I click the slideshow button and immediately click the same button to go back to the gallery view, the portrait-orientation images are displayed at a larger, more appropriate, size. This change seems to be sticky; even portrait-orientation images that I haven't previously viewed are displayed at the larger size once I've switched to the slideshow and back again. (But refreshing the web page resets everything back to its original state.)
It's not a great problem, but it's a bit weird.

(Thanks for the reply and sorry for not responding more quickly.)
I don't think it's cache-related; I can clear the cache and it makes no difference to the behaviour.
It seems as if the flash module calculates the best-fit size and gets a different result depending on whether or not I've visited the slideshow view, even though I'm in the gallery view and the amount of available screen space in the gallery view hasn't changed just because I've visited the slideshow view and come back again.
As I say, it's not a big problem; it's just a bit weird.

  • Iphoto won't display Portrait Orientated images, how can i fix this?

Iphoto'11 on latest OS wont display Portrait Orientated images, only just occured and only shows the image when in 'EDIT'. how can i remedy my thumbnails as it wont allow me to print anything but a blank screen

    Option 1
Back Up and try rebuild the library: hold down the command and option (or alt) keys while launching iPhoto. Use the resulting dialogue to rebuild. Choose to Rebuild iPhoto Library Database from automatic backup.
    If that fails:
    Option 2
Download iPhoto Library Manager and use its rebuild function. This will create a new library based on data in the albumdata.xml file. Not everything will be brought over - no slideshows, books or calendars, for instance - but it should get all your albums and keywords back.
Because this process creates an entirely new library and leaves your old one untouched, it is non-destructive, and if you're not happy with the results you can simply return to your old one. .

  • Index page won't load images in flash gallery

this is the first time I have used a .us extension for a domain.  I created a lighroom flash image gallery, exported it from lightroom into a folder called the domain name (pearlconcepts) which is located in my sites folder on my computer.  I uploaded that folder (pearlconcepts) to my server into the root folder which holds all my domain folders. when I call up the url in my browser (pearlconcepts.us) the index page loads fine.  but the web gallery images don't load (the flash player reads only 'loading').  however, if I upen the index page on my own computer (pearlconcepts.us/index,html), it loads all the images in the flash gallery perfectly.
I am wondering if there is some code in lightroom's web module which sets .com as a preference (my other sites are all .com and the uploaded folders all work fine). or if there is something I need to do to the root folder on the server to make the images load properly.
    many thanks!

  • Last image in flash gallery does not always load

Several times I have had the last image in a flash web gallery not appear. Today, image #41 is seen in the filmstrip, the gallery indicates I should see #41 of 41 images, but that image does not appear in the thumbnail strip to the left and the large image is still #40. I tried switching out the last file, but that doesn't make a difference. I have built much larger galleries with the same default flash template and had everything work. Is this a bug, or am I missing something?
    Thanks,

I had the same thing happen to me. Image #25/25 refused to load. Once I added another image for a total of 26 all images loaded.
    Weird.

  • Portrait oriented images in Picture Book theme

I am starting to put together my first trial book and so far haven't found a way to insert a portrait image into the (landscape) Picture Book layout.
Is the only possible method to create a new landscape image in Photoshop with a portrait image within it. Or is there a more straightforward method?
    Many thanks
    Richard Lewisohn

Jerome, I think I've worked this out now. Previously I had tried to double click an image in the book layout but the handles to drag the image to a different aspect ration hadn't appeared. Also the 'Photo Box Aspect Ratio' buttons were grayed out.
Anyway, now the handles have some appeared!
Next of all I'll investigate proofing with your suggested profile.
    Kind regards

  • Screensaver Portrait Orientation

Since updating to Leopard my Portrait (vertical) photos are displayed horizontally. I've searched this forum, googled it, and checked my "Missing Manual" and can't find an help. Can anyone tell me how to correct this so it displays correctly?
    Thanks in advance,
    John

For ScreenSavers you need to save as JPEGs but your Monitor is almost certainly in landscape format. (A few monitors do allow you to re-orient them and mount them in Portrait format.)
If you want to use Portrait-format images as ScreenSavers you may find that you need to save each image as a landscape shape (1024 x 768 pixels RGB JPEGs) with your photograph centered on a colored or textured background.
(I have not tried using portrait-oriented images as screen-savers so this is just a guess and you will have to experiment to see what works.)
The JPEGs that I have used as screen-savers have always been created in Photoshop and never in either Preview or iPhoto.

  • Image size when sharing portrait orientation in CC

Is there any way to over ride the behavior of CC when sharing images with a portrait orientation? By default it fits the image to the height of the browser window, even when it's expanded to full page. The result is a REDUCTION in image size if you want to share an image that is taller than it is wide.

Usually Images display "fit to screen" by default in my browser. If I click on an over-sized image, it goes to actual size.
There I can scroll around. So I'm guessing you want a 100% or "fit width" default?
Anyway it is the Image > Image Size command that resizes or changes pixel dimensions in Photoshop.
If you send your images to other users, they can zoom in and out to view no matter the size.

  • Web Flash Gallery: Problem setting Large Images size

When using the Lightroom Flash Gallery I am not able to change the size of the Large Images (Web | Appearance | Large Images | Size). When I set the size to Medium or Small, the large images always ends up with the same size as when set to Large. Only when setting the size to Extra Large there is a slight change in size.
How can I change the Large Images size to Medium and Small?

  • Flash Gallery --- Image size

First, does anyone know of a good free program to create a
    flash gallery?
I am currently using SimpleViewer and I have a question about
the size of the photos. All the pictures are different sizes and
SimpleViewer allows me to set a maxium height and width.
    (maxImageWidth)
For some reason, it stretches some photos and it doesn't keep
the size of the photos (I have it set at 480 for both height and
width). I am looking for gallery that will allow me to 'auto' set
the height and width so that the size of the photos won't be
stretched out and will appear as I have uploaded them.

  • Image requests from flash gallery are not caching

The image requests that happen from a flash gallery are not getting cached in Safari browser, they get cached properly in IE, Firefox & Chrome.
For Example - Load the following gallery (http://www.monoslideshow.com/demo/) in Safari browser, and monitor the HTTP requests using Charles proxy tool or any other similar tool.
The images are downloaded during the 1st iteration of the gallery, which is expected, but even for the further iterations the images are downloaded from the source, rather than taking from the cache.

  • How to Increase Number of Images from 500 in a LR3 Flash Gallery

I noticed people asking (and I myself needed to know) so I thought I would explain how to increase the number of images (from 500) in a Flash gallery in Light Room 3
    1. I exported a Flash gallery from LR3 and it capped the gallery at 500 images.
    2.  Because I had roughly 600 images to put in the gallery, I exported the  remaining 100 as a separate flash gallery. (Going ahead and exporting 2  galleries will save you headache in a later step)
    3. I combined  all the images folders (copying "large" images from one folder to the  "large" folder in the gallery I want to upload to my site, etc.) so that  the files are all in one location.
    4. The next step is to  increase the gallery maximum in the code. Access (from the exported  gallery) GALLERYNAME/resources/mediaGroupData/group.xml and open the group.xml file. The line of code you will be changing is <media totalGallerySize="500"> Change the 500 to the number of photos you want in the gallery.
    5.  This next step isn't too complicated, but it is specific. You know have  to tell that flash file to look for the images you just transferred to  the images folder. The best way to do this is to open the group.xml file  for the second gallery you exported. Copy all the code beginning with <item>  to the bottom of the page. This code tells the gallery to look at your  specific images (Note: you'll notice within each item the names of your  image file)
    6. Return to the (other) group.xml file of the gallery you plan to use (with all your images in it). Scroll to the bottom and erase the lines </media> and </mediagroup> becaue you will repaste them in a moment. Next, paste the copied code there.
    7. Save & check your browser!
I hope this was clear...please comment back and I'll clarify if needed.

500 images in a single gallery is too many - think of the poor viewer!
But if you must create Flash galeries with more than 500 images, you're better off editing the underlying engine - here's one link showing how to do it

  • How to reduce file size in flash gallery and add description

How can i reduce physical filesize of my photo's within the flash web gallery. When i generate the flash gallery it takes the original filesizes to publisch, some jpg files are verry large, not mentioning my raw files.
How can i reduce the filesize? lets say 600x400 at 96 dpi in stead of 6144x4113 at 300 dpi.
Or do i first have to reduce the filesize in a automated script within photoshop?
Also i want to add the description into the flash document.
    How can this be done?
    Help is much appreciated...

    Use the Image Processor script.
In Bridge it is: Tools > Photoshop > Image Processor ...
    The interface is self-explanatory.
Where do you want the description and what do you want?

This is probably a very simple solution, but i can't figure out how to remove the link to the adobe site when you click on the images in my gallery--I built a site in dreamweaver used the insert media option and added my photos---when uploaded, my images in the gallery are clickable and take you to the adobe site...how do i make the images have no link??

Which version of DW are you running?
There are plenty of jQuery solutions and commercial plugins to create photo galeries.
    Some require hand coding,

    https://www.google.com.au/search?q=jquery+photo+galleries
others are point and click inside Dreamweaver.

  • Images with "Portrait" orientation are stretched out

I've taken photos with "portrait" (vs landscape) orientation with my camera then imported them in iPhoto. Then, I've rotated them in iPhoto so that they display with the correct orientation (i.e vertically), and everything so far looks OK.
However, when I try to build up a slideshow with iDVD, those portrait oriented photos are stretched out sideways in order to fill out the displaying frame (I would have expected them to show as in iPhoto with a black band on each side) .
I've read in the iDVD Help that this may happen whenever landscape AND portrait pictures are mixed together in the same slideshow. So, I carefully isolated each set of photos but with no success.
From what I've read in the iDVD forum, it seems that this is a recurrent problem no matter which iDVD or iPhoto version is used (I use iDVD 3 and iPhoto 2).
    Thank for any help.
    1.8 Ghz PowerPC G5   Mac OS X (10.3.9)

Well, I tried to use iDVD without reading the tutorial and I confused the drop zone and the slideshow.
Actually, when you drop more than one photo into the drop zone, the width over the height ratio is determined by the first picture. Whenever the first photo is landscape oriented, any subsequent portrait photo appears stretched out. Conversely, if the first photo is portrait oriented, then the following landscape photos will be squeezed.
In any case, the slideshow itself is always displayed correctly.

  • Portrait oriented thumbnail becomes Black Exclamation error when clicked on

After loading in pix from my new Canon G9 (12 megapixel), I can click on landscape oriented photos (from their thumbnails) and they come to full screen display as expected, however all the portrait oriented thumbnails flash up to full screen and then immediately are replaced by a weird big black exclamation mark in a white circle (this is all very blurry and the size of the full screen picture that should have been shown)... it is clearly some sort of error message indicator. I had no such problem with my Canon a710 (8 mpix).
Note, if I go to full screen viewing mode (by clicking the expander button at the bottom left of the screen) these pictures are displayed properly when I tab through my shots.
I searched iphoto help for "exclamation" and there is a discussion of a little exclamation error format (tiny compared to what I get displayed) and it signals problems locating the photo, but that is not the problem I have (it is findable, even displays briefly before being replaced by the BIG BLURRY EXCLAMATION IN A TELESCOPE TYPE VIEWFINDER image.
Any idea if this is a known bug and how do you report such a bug to Apple online?

    cruz2
    Welcome to the Apple Discussions.
The size of the exclamation mark doesn't matter, it means the same thing.
The ! or ? turns up when iPhoto loses the connection between the thumbnail in the iPhoto Window and the file it represents.
The most common cause of this is User Activity in the iPhoto Library Folder in the Finder.
Have you altered, moved or renamed anything in the iPhoto Library Folder?
If you haven't, then try rebuilding the database. Hold down the apple and option (or alt) keys while launching iPhoto. Use the resulting dialogue to rebuild.
If that fails try Download BatchMod from
    http://macchampion.com/arbysoft/
And apply it to the iPhoto Library Folder using the settings found here:
