Size, resoultion, creating larger graphic

Hi. I posted a msg about this a little while ago about a much larger graphic that I am going to ask about now, but if I design a 30x36 poster, am i able to create this at 1/3rd the size at 300dpi & have the printer output it at 300%?
I am wondering if it will maintain the quality or if I should just design it in PS at 30x36 at 100%. Working in PS 7.0.
Does this method of designing at 1/3rd the size work with smaller graphics like say letter size or something also?
Thanks.
Jules

>1/3rd the size at 300dpi
If you can keep vector elements in your design as vector, 100 effective ppi will be fine. If you cannot, I would shoot for 300 ppi (meaning 30 x 36 @ 300 ppi).
>Does this method of designing at 1/3rd the size work with smaller graphics like say letter size or something also?
Sure. But why would you work this way is one question.

  • Why does the Reduced Size PDF command create larger files?

I have been a happy user of Adobe Acrobat vers. 7 until Adobe ceased the support of that version and I was unable to print and do other activities since my last Mac OS vers.10.6.8 update, so I was forced to upgrade to Adobe's Acrobat's X latest version 10.0.0.  I had hope to be able to produce Adobe Acrobat 3D files but found out later that Adobe does not do that anymore and I would have to buy it as a plugin from Tetra 4D for another $399.00, oh well. I then wanted to reduce the file size of some larger pdfs I had edited.  It took a while to locate the command location, now in File>Save>Reduced SizePDF, once I activated the command on my file it actually increased its size!!  Why did this happen?  Should I continue to use my disabled, Adobe unsupported vers 7 to get the superior performance I once had?  This issue was mentioned in an earlier thread that started out as to where to locate this command but the resultant larger file issue remained unanswered.  Currently unhappy on my purchase.  Will Adobe offer a free upgrade to fix this?

I agree with Peter. Use Pages '09, but keep a document migration strategy present. When you create a Pages document in Pages '09, export it to Word .doc too. Export any current content in Pages v5.2.2, and then stop using it. That means no double-clicked documents.
Pages v5 is not an evolution of Pages '09 — it is an incomplete rewrite, and uses a different, internal document architecture than did Pages '09. This internal architecture is to blame for the export translation bloat into Word's different document architecture. It does not matter whether you type a single character, or multiple pages, you will get about a 500Kb .docx file.
Opening, and resaving this monster .docx file in MS Word in Office for Mac 2011, LibreOffice, or TextEdit will result in a very small .docx footprint.

  • Photoshop, large graphic, stock image, size, resolution

    Hi.
I am going to make a large graphic about 10 feet x 9 feet using 150 resolution. I have this image in 300ppi that is roughly 12x8 inches. Can this image cover the background of the large graphic without looking too fuzzy?
    Thank you.

depends on how back you stand. .. :)...400m might be OK
To resize to 9x10ft from a 12x8ins image will yield poor results.
But try it and see for yourself. You can get fractal software that'll help, a bit....or you can import it to a vector program and convert it to a vector then you can scale as much as you like...but you will still lose quality during the conversion.

  • How to import many large graphic images to fit into column width?

I have a 2-column layout and about 150 large graphic images which must be imported so that they fit exactly into the column width. These are bitmaps which have all the same dimensions. All of them will need a border (stroke). And they should be inline graphics because they belong to exact positions in the text flow.
What would be the sensible approach to that (apart from scripting which I have not done yet)? I tried to define an object style which has the attribute "Fit content to frame", but this does not scale the image to the column size. How can I avoid to format 150 those images manually?

It may be easier to change the ppi in photoshop so the image can be placed at the exact size.
so if the image is 10 inches and the file is 300 ppi
with resample image unchecked change the width to whatever you want it say 2 inches no the ppi will automatically change to 1500 ppi. Save. If you are creating a PDF make sure these images are not downsampled if you need the resolution.
another way if all images are the same size would be to size one and place it where all the images go and relink to the other pics, when you relink it should retain the properties of the previous pic.

  • CREATING GINORMOUS GRAPHICS

I am using PhotoShop CS on Windows XP Pro with 2gb of RAM.  I need to create a graphic that is 500cm wide by 391cm tall.  I have a file set up with those dimensions at 150dpi (per our vendor).  The file size info is telling me it is 2.54gb before I start adding additional images to it.  This is really bogging my computer down.  Is there a better way to go about creating this thing.  I've got two days to complete it but really do not want to spend it waiting for this thing to save, render type etc.  Any help would be greatly appreciated.

    Try this in photoshop:
Create the document the desired size but in a lower resolution like 15 dpi and keep all imported photos as smart objects, and keep all the text/objects you add as vector. When you are finished working on it, save a copy.
Then change the resolution from 15 dpi to 150 dpi. This takes a few minutes to complete.
Turn off image preview (preference -> file handling). This may help save the file faster.
Then save the file (as psd) and turn off maximize compatibility (may also save the file faster). If it's going to run out of memory, now would be the time.
If it did run out of memory, rent computer time at a print shop or somewhere with photoshop, bring the 15 dpi file there and convert it to 150 dpi. Might need to bring a large thumb drive to save the file.
If all else fail, there is one last hope. Give the 15dpi file to the printer and ask them to kindly change the resolution to 150 dpi before printing.

  • How can I use the Concentric Shape Generator in Motion to create a graphic?

    Hi,
    "Concentric Shapes generator
The Concentric Shapes generator is used to generate patterns derived from circles or from polygons ranging from 3 to 100 sides. Choose two fixed colors or set up a flexible multicolor gradient."
    (taken from http://www.apple.com/finalcutstudio/whats-new.html)
I would really like to utilise this feature to create some graphics I need to create but I cannot find how to do this. Can anyone point me in the right direction? A tutorial perhaps...? I have looked and looked.
I basically wish to have a triangle shape increasing in size over and over again in two-tone colour.
    Many thanks,
    Philip

Not entirely sure what look you're going for, but here's an example:

  • Looking for suggestions to create a graphical user interface. Swing?

    Hi there,
I am considering developing this as a side-project, therefore wish to know how much work will be involved (ie. if I have time to complete it).
The situation. I have an online game that I play. It allows access to data using text files, that are updated on an hourly basis. These text files are generally a number of MB in size (containing details for players: Id, name, tribe, score, and other ranking-related data). I wish to access these text files, then - using the data contained within them - create a graphical map-like interface.
    Features of the map:
    - scrolling (or changing view in some other way)
    - tool-tips when highlighting over certain elements?
    - contains graphics, located on a web server (or I can easily download these to use locally)
    Questions:
    (1) Am I able to run background processes in some way, on a Windows machine, to automatically update the data?
    (2) Would it be best to save objects to a file - then load them when the program is run, or actually save the data to a local database? What DBMS do you recommend, and what classes should I look at to find out more about interacting with databases?
    (3) I have not written a graphical-based application before using Java. I have heard a little about Swing. Is this the only GUI designer I should look in to, or are there others? Please give me names, I can start researching from there. The GUI would need to support something similar to the map I described above.
If you require more information, let me know. As far as I know I am not allowed to post the link to the game here, however if you need to have a look at it to understand the problem I will do so.

When you say "map" do you mean a map in the "traditional" sense - with cities and land and such?

What DBMS do you recommend, and what classes should I look at to find out more about interacting with databases? It depends - are you just loading these objects into main memory when you fire up your program? If so, serializing them out to a file is find. If you're going to be doing queries and updates while your program is running then using a DB would likely be a Good Thing. Check out [hypersonic |http://hsqldb.org/] and the [JDBC tutorial|http://java.sun.com/docs/books/tutorial/jdbc/]

There are others (SWT comes to mind). Google can likely help you out more than I can. I suspect most GUI widget sets will supply a "blank" component that you can paint your map on.

  • Why is menu size so much larger than the files?

I am somewhat perplexed - I'm making a single-layer dvd and have a simple single screen theme (no animation) - it has one drop zone. The movie has 28 chapters so there are five of them, but so far I've added only one montage of photos to each menu page - it's a "mobile" quality in media browser and ave only 10 - 20 MB, then one song. On average these movie clips are 1:00 to 2:00 min long and the music is cut to that length. So, all told, it's probably less than 110 MB in files - but when I look at the project properties, the menus are 3301 MB!!!
The movie itself is only 1.1 GB so what is going on?
It's preventing me from doing the project and I've got no idea why it's making the menu size so much larger than the file sizes?
Can you please help me figure out what to do?
    Alexa

The 2 min clips were natively 2 min - I had each one separate and actually converted to media browser in "mobile" size (b/c the drop zone was 4 x 6 in size in the theme). They were tiny - in most cases I was shortening the audio (e.g. the song was 4 minutes and I was setting the loop to only 1:30 b/c that's how long the video clip was on the menu).
BUT, to resolve the question (I always like to post the answer) - I ended up duplicating the project to try to reimport the video. It was a fresh iDVD project and I happened to click on the project tree of screens - and, lo and behold, the ENTIRE menu was duplicated for some reason (and the movie, actually). I went back to the original and it was the same! I have no idea how that would happen do you? It only had one main menu screen - and then an entire duplicate menu - which I wouldn't even know how to access if I didn't see it in the project menu tree?
The only think of is that at one point I added a title menu link to the scene selection - it gave me a warning that my menu was more than 12 minutes, did I want to fix or ignore and fix later - which confused me b/c it was under 12 min, then but I clicked ignore. Does that create an alternate title menu and send people back to something else?
Anyway, I deleted the entire extra scene selection menus (5 of them) and it was back to under 4 GB.
So, I was able to burn, but still wondering about creating the "title menu" link on scene selections? It drives me crazy that it doesn't automatically do that so I like to add "main menu" links.
    Thanks for your help!

  • Creating large pdf document

Help, I have created a magazine for a local club which is in excess of 100mb and it won't upload to a PDF document, can you please help?

    Hi wendyclewley,
There is a 100 MB file size limitation for submitting files to the Create PDF service.
But with Acrobat you can create large files.
You can use free trial service of 30 days.
If it meets your expectation then you can purchase the full version.

  • Correct way to create Photoshop graphics?

I have to create some graphics for a client and their logo includes a circle. I don't want to mess up the quality of the logo or make the circle an egg, etc. What is the best way to create the graphics. This is a 4x3 project. Do I start with a document that is 720x540 with square pixels and import the logo in or do I start with it at 720x480? What image size and pixel aspect ratio is best.
    Thanks,
    John

also, make sure that your image mode is RGB, not CMYK. and if you are going to want transparency in your file, save as a .psd

  • Smartform Image size is becoming larger

    Dear Experts,
We have designed a smartform for printting letters. We have copied the image from word document and displayed on the smartform. The Images are coming larger in size.
How do we get in the same size, like what it looks like in word document..

    Hi,
    u can set Resolution ...
The graphic resolution controls the size of a graphic when it is printed. High resolutions produce small graphics while low resolutions produce large graphics.
If you choose default value 0, the original resolution of the imported graphic file is used.
can use following DPI..and check several sizes and chose appropriate
    75  dpi
    100 dpi
    200 dpi
    150 dpi
    300 dpi
    600 dpi

  • Creating large configurations

I've been trying to create large configurations using the Command Line Tool's mkconfig command, because the Configuration Wizard only seems to allow choosing one element at a time. (Single selection is not productive when trying to initially build a configuration with hundreds of elements.)
My questions about the mkconfig command are:
    1) Is there any limit to size of a file that can be referenced with the mkconfig (and updconfig) command? My trials have produced errors when the file was greater than 16KB. These files can get relatively large fast, due to the length of hundreds of version-resolved INCLUDE_OBJECT rules.
    2) Please confirm whether the entire command will fail with a Java abend error if the file includes an invalid INCLUDE_OBJECT rule, e.g., an unresolveable object version?
Thanks very much for any help with this.

    Aaron

One thing to consider: when you add photos to a collection via SDK, you are also giving work to Lr native to do in the background (i.o.w. it's not finished when you return from with-do), and so as you go SDK is competing more with Lr native (Lr native may be becoming increasingly back-logged). Dunno if that has any bearing, but perhaps worth consideration...
Lr performance is a big giant mystery to me. I mean, just exporting, I can watch Lr performance slow and slow and slow (when exporting large numbers of photos), even when there appears to be no memory leak. Ditto for other ops. So although I can't explain your observation (i.e. the decreased performance adding lotsa photos to collection), (nor any of my similar observations), it doesn't surprise me either.

  • How do I increase the font size of a large document?

Whenever I try to increase the font size of a large document, the text boxes cross their boundaries and mix with each other, or partly disappear at the end of every page. Do I really have to adjunst every text bos in the document or is there a faster way? Im having this issue with adobe acrobat 11 pro

This is not a feasible thing to do. Editing a PDF is a desperate last resort for so many reasons.
Whatever you need to solve, you are unlikely  to solve it in Acrobat. Probably best to export text and remake it.

  • File size is very large in 7.0 coamparing to 3.X

    Hi,
When saving the query in 7.0 the file size become very large as compare to saving the same query with the same amount of data in 3.X. Is there any solution to take care of this problem and reduced the file size in 7.0.  Please advice.
    Thanks
    Isac

    Hi,
The file size increases due to the high formatting options in BI 7.0.
Remove the formatting option from the work book setting in the Bex analyzer in design mode.
