Sizes in Keynote

I'm having a bit of trouble with sizes in keynote. I need to print out my slides and the objects within them have to be the correct size. I resize them so that they say they are the correct dimensions in Keynote but when I print them they always seem to have smaller dimensions. Even when I have 'actual size' on my screen it is actually smaller (2cm seems to equal about 1.5cm). Does anyone have any ideas?

Yeah, print and screen are two totally different things. Lets say for a second that your screen is 72dpi (which they used to be, but now most are nearer to like 96, sometimes higher). A normal 1024x768 slide would then be 14.22" wide by 10.66 inches tall, which won't fit on a normal 8.5x11 piece of paper. Even if you got paper the right size (say 11x17) you might still have a problem unless you use change your rulers to inches in Keynote...AND you have to hope Apple at least made it print full size if the paper is large enough.
Hope that makes sense.

  • Issues Defining Poster Size in Keynote 09

I use Keynote to print posters of about 4x3 feet size. I used to be able to define and select a custom paper size in Keynote 08 in the page setup menu. When printing the file into a PDF to give it to our printers, this size was maintained, i.e. the poster printed directly from the PDF in the specified 4'x3' size.
Now, in Keynote 09 it seems the page set-up menu is gone. On the print screen, the custom paper sizes I defined earlier appear grey shaded, and cannot be selected. It seems the only size-related variable that one can set in Keynote 09 are the number of horizontal and vertical pixels. Export to PDF seems to always end up in letter sized (or whatever pre-defined sizes can be selected in the print window). Does anyone have an idea how to print (or produce PDFs) with a defined size from Keynote 09? Thanks!

After experimenting a bit, it seems that one can generate a PDF with a desired printing size by entering <dimension in inches>*72 into the 'poster size' field in the 'inspector'. Then using 'share' to export the file as PDF. This appears to preserve the size in the printed document (i.e. when printing on a letter size printer, one only gets a small fraction of the poster).

  • Is there a maximum size for Keynote files

I want to make sure my Keynote files are functioning well.  Is there a maximum size, under which they function best?  (either a number of slides, or MB/memory).
I've created the Keynote files on my iPad2, then uploaded them to my iMac desktop, used the "Reduce File Size" option on desktop Keynote, saved, then downloaded onto my iPhone4, and I'm "projecting" the files onto an Apple TV 2.
    Thanks!

There's a mathematical limit due to the architecture of PDF object references but it's way beyond anything you could create in practice. Because the Acrobat Family are 32-bit applications you'll find there are performance issues if the file count gets too high - exactly when that becomes a problem depends on both the files and the hardware opening them, but given an XLSX file isn't displayed within the Portfolio (other than as an icon) it'll be less of an issue then if the files were PDFs, videos, etc.

  • What is the max poster size in Keynote 6.0?

I want to create a 6 ft by 3 ft poster in keynote (5184 pts by 2592 pts) but it won't let me. I can specify smaller sizes but it bugs me that keynote cannot handle large posters. Is there a workaround?

  • Setting up the correct custom project size size for keynote presentation in FCP 7 or motion?

    Hi...anyone else do this?
I have been creating and editing films in FCP (not X) for years now and have got into creating the whole presentation for clients awards ceremonies etc. via Keynote on my iPad via HDMI to HD projectors and it looks amazing and is seamless on the night. No need for crappy powerpoint slides and jumping to low res DVD films - its all controlled via my iPad.
But i want to up the creativity of the presentations - at the moment we import the films as mp4 HD QT files and jpegs of the speakers/nominees/titles screens etc. created in Photoshop and put the whole thing together in Keynote on my iPad. It worked a treat and my clients love it!
Now i had a thought and did a test and created Motion graphics versions of the speakers titles and nominees screens in Apple Motion - so that they had an animated section at the start with whoosh audio stingers as they are played and not just stills - and then export them as QT files - import to FCP 7 timeline and export to compresser ready to convert to mp4 for Keynote.
This way i can extend the static part of the screen after the motion graphic part to say 10 mins as i never know how long the speaker will be on stage.
Then when the speaker moves on the next item i can hit the ipad which will move to the next presentaion screen!
    Q. Now ive been doing these as HD 16:9 screens - but when imported to Keynote I have a white band top and bottom on the screen so i really need to start with a template screen size of 1024 x 768 for Keynote and also keep this size in FCP 7! And also export to Quicktime as the same size.
When i do static jpegs to import into Keynote i just define the pixel canvas size - 1024 x 768 @ 300dpi in Photoshop and it works fine but im not sure what to do in Motion or PCP as I have always created my films in 16:9 HD widescreen preset!
Anyone else doing this and got a solution to my problem and can help with custom project sizes in motion and FCP 7!

1024x768 is 4x3.  2048x1536 is 4x3.  Both of these are current display dimensions for iPads 1-3.
HD video (1920x1080 or 1280x720) is a 16x9 aspect ratio.
Try putting a rectangle in a square. Unless you scale the retangle up and lose image on the sides you will not be able to properly fill the entire 4x3 display area. The easy compromise is letterboxing to ensure all of the rectangle is display in the square. The iPad is doing this with very little effort on your part.
In FC you can create a new sequence and go into the settings and customize it to 1024x768, 2048x1536 or
just about any other dimension. Even If you create a custom sequence at 1024 or 2048 in FC you will see the same results that the iPad is giving you with much less effort, render and conversion time (presuming your keynote workspace cannot change in dimensions or aspect ratio and you are unwilling to crop your 16x9 aspect ratio video to fill the space.)

  • Printing poster sizes in Keynote--HELP

    Hi
My clients are creating posters in keynote at 50% of the final poster size. I need to print them at 200% but I can not get them to print that way. The paper comes out the right size but the poster is only at the page size-- such as a 22 x 22 inch poster printed out at 44x 44 inches -- paper is 44x44 but image is only 22x22.

First off, the "crop" function doesn't work the way it does in CS2. The "8 x 10" option is a "ratio", not inches by inches. So it gives you a crop that "can" conform to a 4 x 5 or 8 x 10 ratio print. When you go in to the print dialogue, you are probably making the right selections, but here's what I had to do to get an 8 x 10 inch print on U.S. Letter which is 8.5 x 11. I chose the paper size, then I chose "fit entire image", and "portrait". Then, since the image I want would be .5 inches less than the total width of the page, I had to divide that in half (.25 in) and move the margins slider to that setting. Then I got an 8 x 10 inch print. Using A4 the setting would be slightly different.
I know this is very counter intuitive, and I surely hope they will fix this in the next version of Aperture. But that's how you do it.

  • How change poster size in Keynote?

Why will the Inspector *not* let me change the slide size from 4000x3000 pixels to 6000x3000 pixels? (I'm making a poster)

Creating printed end products is not what Keynote does, there is also a size limit for pixel dimensions again because its a screen based presentation application not a print layout application.
Instead use Pages, Word, Indesign, Open Office (or Bean , which is freeware).

  • Font size in Keynote and Pages Table on IPAd

I imported some keynote presentation into iPad and was horrified to see all my tables with text entries got totally screwed up. After a brief investigation, I discovered that on the iPad if you create a table your are limited to 4 text sizes (L, M, S and Tiny, just like bathing suite sizes). Even the Tiny size is too big for the tables I use.
Any ideas on how I can use regular font sizes in tables (like 12, 10 8 and so forth)? Am I missing something here? Any help will be appreciated!

Not if you restore from a backup you've made on iTunes.  All the settings, etc. will be the same.  Of course, there may be corrupted files in the backup that are causing your crash.  Give it a try and see what happens.

  • Recommended Movie Sizes for Keynote

Can someone tell me the best way to compress a movie, step by step in Quicktime, so that the movies will play smoothly in Keynote? I think I'm placing movies that are too large, and consequently, they are playing with a jerky motion, skipping frames, from within Keynote.
I made the movie sequences in Final Cut Pro, and exported from there to movies (.mov) with an 800 x 600 size. But I don't understand resolution issues, or bit rates, or any of those other details, that might make the movie play more smoothly while retaining a clear, clean look, when projected.
My movie sequences in Keynote are anywhere from 1-10 minutes in length, and the size of the movies are anywhere between 200 mB to almost 1 Gig.
    Any ideas?
    Uri

I regularly incorporate videos into my presentations. I encode them using h.264, and save them as MP4 files. I specify an average bitrate around 1200. I also do not embed the files into Keynote.
One thing I noticed: If I have the ethernet connection plugged in, I get stuttering video, but if it's unplugged, it generally works better. I have no idea why.

You can also use Tab to increase the level and shift tab to decrease it.

  • KeyNote files explode in size. How do you stop it from embeddig all theme images (7 MB per theme)?

I think I just found out what is wrong with the file sizes of KeyNote for iOS.
In the Mac version of this app, there is a preference setting called "Copy theme images into document" which if checked includes about 7 MB of images for every theme used in the presentation(!). Normally this setting is kept off (thank god).
However, in the iOS version of KeyNote, there is no such setting. Instead, that function is always ON(!!!). This means that every time you create a presentation in there, or edit one from the Mac version, it will grow by approx. N times 7 MB; where N is the number of themes used in your presentation.
Now, if you use KeyNote for iOS and store your presentations on iCloud — like a good user should — then every single file will be sure to explode in size. And consequently take forever to upload and download from the cloud  :-(
    Any solution, anybody?

I don't know,  Maybe Office 2008 doesn't play nice with Lion.  Was 2008 working previously with Lion?  Did you have these problems with Snow Leopard?
    Here's MS's instructions for uninstalling Office 2008.
How to completely remove Office 2008 for Mac
All I can suggest is uninstalling and starting over with a fresh installation.
Alternatively don't use Office at all.  Instead use one of the Office substitues that supports Word documents (OpenOffice, LibreOffice, NeoOffice).  Also there's Apple's Pages and MS Office 2011.

  • Keynote '09 Print Sizes Missing

Hey everyone- Recently we've been trying to print to 11x17 tabloid sizes from Keynote '09. We have it installed throughout the company, but recently there's a couple machines that have lost the ability to print to Tabloid and create custom sizes. Only about 5 options remain. No recent updates we've done out of the ordinary, and when creating the presentation the size is 1920x1080. This should give us the option of printing to Tabloid but no go!
Is there a way the print sizes got removed somehow, and how should I go about restoring them? I've searched for a while on google and disscussions but no go so far. Any assistance in restoring them would be great, thanks!

Keynote by itself does not have any printing function, printing is actually carried out by the print driver which is installed specifically for the printer connected to the Mac. Keynote tells the print driver what to print, not how to print.
For example, my HP A4 printer does not list A3 sizes, because the print driver does not have data for that size of paper.
Investigate if the correct printer driver is installed for the exact model of printer connected by going to:
Apple Menu > System Preferences > Print and Fax.  If not, install the correct printer driver for the printer.

  • Is there a file size limit for images in keynote on a mac?

Is there a file size limit for images in keynote on a mac?

If you right click on the file (navigate to it using finder, or if it is in iCloud you should open keynote, File -> Open and you should see a list of your iCloud keynotes) then press command+i, you'll pull up the info tag which will tell you the file size.
Keynote also has an option to Reduce File Size  (File -> Reduce Files Size) but I do not recommend it at all because it will severely degrade the quality of your pictures.
It's also possible to reduce an individual image's memory size in your keynote by right clicking it and selecting Reduce Image File Size).  This is more time-consuming but allows you to see if the degraded photo quality is still good enough, and you can always undo it.
