Sizing a logo for a client, when they aren't sure of intended usage

Hello,
Can anyone tell me a good "rule of thumb" when designing a logo for someone who isn't sure what size that they would want to use that logo in the future? If they don't know what print size they may want (business card size or larger sign size) - what size is best to give them AND if they don't know what web size they need, what size is good to give them where they have room to resize? What format is best, Ai? or pdf?
This is especially a concern if the logo is made in Photoshop. Any suggestions on standard sizing or standard practice in this case ? Gratitude in advance - K-

Generally I would save the logo at any size that fits on a letter size sheet of paper so that the client can easily print it on nearly any desktop printer as is. If you are submitting an Illustrator *.ai or EPS file without any linked or embedded bitmap images, then you don't need to worry about the final size in its various applications, because it will scale without loss of resolution. It can be used for a business card or a billboard.
If it's done in Photoshop, then you may want to start with a master file that has enough ppi resolution to suit the logo's biggest size of application. Then you or the client can downsample from there. (But since we're in an Illustrator forum and not a Photoshop forum, I'll show my Illustrator bias here and recommend using Illustrator for logo work whenever possible ;-)
Always handy to give a client a PDF and JPEG version in addition to the .ai and/or .eps files in case they don't have Illustrator or a Postscript printer.
Others may have standard practices to suggest.

Do you happen to have an Android? If so and depending on what version there is a great data usage analyse tool built-in. See if you can go to Settings -> Data Usage from there you can pick a current or previous billing cycle and then use the vertical sliders to select a date range and it will filter the usage data per app to show you exactly what app(s) were using data during that time frame.

this is coincidently after an ios update for iphone which i did just approx two days earlier which was suppused to fix battery issues?
also battery shows 100 percent full but as i explained if disconected from socket it switches off altogether.

Hopefully and most likely faulty battery. If you have Warranty or AppleCare, make Genius reservation and take to Apple for resolution.

You'll have to get a new one from your carrier. I believe the shipping instructions for mail in service explicitly tell you to take it out as you will most likely not receive the same phone back. Apple doesn't repair most phones, they replace them.

According to this article Using iPhone on an airplane you should be able to listen to music with Airplay Mode enabled.
Make sure you have Music switched on in Settings > Store or your music won't download via Wi-Fi.

Why are applications bouncing in the dock when they aren't open. I've had this happen with two different applications. The only way to stop it is to do a restart, which seems like overkill.

Is the IOS 7.0.2 music app deleting albums for anyone else when they try to play them?

Ever since updating to iOS 7.0.2 when I play music on my iPhone 5 it's skips through the songs and deletes the album/artists selected.
I have tried plugging into iTunes, deleting all music and transferring it all back but after a few days the problem came back
Is anyone else experiencing this and or found a fix?

Yep - deleting anything that's not purchased on itunes when I try to play it.
This is terrible, and especially a pain when they're things like limited edition albums where tracks are only available direct, so going for iTunes match is not gonna help.
Only other variable to consider is that I installed the "Groove" app to try out a few weeks ago, and played music with it twice. Highly doubt this is related, however non-iTunes purchased tmusic tracks also show up there and now *crash the phone* when I try to play them so it's something system-wide.

Freeing memory for Internal Frames when they are closed

Does anyone have any advice for a way to completely free all references to InternalFrames and their contents when they are closed? It appears that many references to the frame are held deep within Swing. Our application hold references to large memory structures in the InternalFrame, which means that we have a large memory leak whenever a frame is closed.

Users are being prompted for Admin credentials when they attempt to print.

Hello! I am a Tech assistant at a public school and we have run into an issue with our students and their MacBooks & MacBook Pros.
Whenever our students attempt to print to any printer in their school building they are prompted for administrator credentials. I have attached examples of the message they are getting:
We are not sure how to go about tackling this issue. We are getting this message on both MacBooks and MacBook Pros. They are all running Mountain Lion. Last year they were all on Lion and we never had this issue. Could this possibly be a known issue with Mountain Lion??? Once we type in the administrator credentials for the students they are able to print from then on. Many of the students are also seeing this message when they try to print at their homes. It seems to have something to do with printing permissions but we're just not sure. Any help would be very much appreciated!

You used Workgroup Manager, Profile Manager, or Parental Controls to restrict users from printing or adding a print queue. Remove or modify those restrictions the same way.

Acrobat Reader Xi Crashes for Multiple users when they attempt to "Save As"

I have multiple users here running Windows 8 and Acrobat Reader Xi (11.0.05) and when they click 'save as' to save a PDF they are viewing, acrobat crashes every time.
Is there a resolution to this crashing probelm ?
I have tried uninstalling (using the cleanup tool as well) and reinstalling the program,
I have tried rolling back to an earlier version of Xi
So far nothing has worked.
Any insight or resolution would be greatly appreciated.

Uninstalled Reader 11.0.5
Ran the Acrobat cleanup tool v2
Installed Acrobat reader 11.0.6
Still have the same issue.
Narrowed this down to PDF files that are opened from a network drive.
If I copy the PDF to the local Drive of the PC I can open it and "save as" successfully.
If I open the PDF from the mapped network drive, and then "save as" Acrobat reader crashes every time.
Unfortunately we do all our work from the Shared Network Drives not from our local PC's

Alarms app that work when they aren't open?

I don't know if this is the right place to ask this, but I am looking for an alarm app I can use (besides Apple's) that works even when it isn't open and I am doing something else on the phone. Most apps I've seen only work when they are open, but I am looking for one that can work when it's closed. Thanks!

Try restoring your iPod via iTunes. First from backup and it the problem persists restore to factory defaults.
If still a problem make an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store since it is likely that your have a hardware problem.

Itouch thinks headphones are connected when they aren't

My itouch (2nd gen)connects well to headphones, but when I remove the headphones it thinks they are still connected. I've tried restarting, resetting, and restoring already. The volume control buttons work, but come up saying there are headphones in when there aren't. The headphone jack is clean too. Anyone have any ideas???

I have the same problem. Have tried inserting removing headphones multiple times, looking for debris, the water damage indicator is still white, reboot, restore, etc. Still the iPod thinks that the headphones are always attached when they are not.
This is very frustrating, as it seems many are having this same issue. My iPod Touch is just a little over a year old, and I have taken care of it. It's disappointing that the answer seems to be bad hardware on Apples part.

2008 MacBook Pro Reads DVD-Rs as blank (when they aren't)

It seems as though my poor little MacBook Pro is having problems reading DVDs.
For a while it simply wouldn't read DVDs at all - it would whirr and spit them back out. After repeatedly putting the DVDs back into the machine, however, it does EVENTUALLY read and play them on the 4th or 5th try. Thus, that problem is only relatively minor.
More problematic, however, is that the optical drive reads all DVD-Rs and DVD-RWs as blank, even when they are clearly not. Instead, it gives me the window that says "You inserted a blank DVD. Choose an action from the pop-up menu or click ignore."
The DVD-RWs, however, are, again, not blank. Other Macs - older MacBooks - read and play them fine, so it's clearly not a disk compatibility issue.
I tried restarting, resetting the SMC, blowing air into the optical drive (albeit rather amateurishly) and re-inserting the DVD-RW multiple times, all to no avail.
Does this mean I need a new optical drive?

Same problem I have. Using Titanium 10 the drive wrote to a blank disc fine (Verbatim DV-R) but when I put the same disc back in it's name says "Blank CD" rather than the "Test Disc" I named it and says it's recordable. Happens with professional (installation discs) as well. Discs read fine on my MacBook.

My iPhone shows that the headphones are attched. They aren't. So it doesn't play music on the speaker, I can't make a phonecall without plugging the handsfree. I tried plugging-unplugging the headphones more than several times, there's still nothing. Can anyone suggest something please?

Look in the headphone hole for lint or other debris. If there is
obstruction, clear it out.
Plug your headphones in and remove them repeatedly.
Reset the iPhone: hold down home button and sleep button
until Apple logo appears - no data will be lost.
