SJCP 1.6

Hi,
I am trying to figure out the best way to organize a SCJP 1.6 (*{color:#ff00ff}CX-310-065{color}*) for me and some of my colleagues.
Apparently there is no CD with training material (Java Programming Language) for 1.6, but there is one for 1.4.
If we purchase the Sun Certified Programmer for the Java Platform, Standard Edition 1.4 (CX-310-035) CDROM
training (CDJ-275A), what additional study material we definitely need to get from 1.4 to 1.6?
Would J2SE Platform 5.0 for the Developer: Language Changes WJO-2762 be sufficient? Is this CD ROM or
Web based training module limited to 1 person?

The books offered by Katherine & Bert Bates are awesome. I have used their 1.5 book to study for the 1.5 exam. I am waiting on the book to be released in July. But until then I am reading the Java Core 1.6 books.
The SJCP Sun Certified Programmer for Java 5 by Seira/Bates is out and I use it all the time.
SCJP Sun Certified Programmer for Java 6 Exam 310-065 by Katherine Sierra and Bert Bates (Paperback - Jul 18, 2008)

Best way to prepare for SJCP 1.4

Hello All,
I'm planning on taking the SJCP 1.4 exam and was wanting some current feedback on preparation on the exam. I have a couple of books and the Whizlabs exam software.
How much time should I expect to put in to prepare and is the Whizlabs software good? If I can pass the Whizlabs test with a certain score am I really ready to take the actual exam? I didn't pass the diagnostic exam on my first try, so I think I've got my work cut out for me.

Well I had read reviews previous on download.com and
their was complaints about the some of the answers
provided. There were also some pretty dodgy reviews.
Never trust anonymous "ratings" and "reviews". Often they're extremely skewed towards the negative because the majority of people taking part in such exercises (especially online) are those with a grudge, those who are not happy with a product.
It's not like formal consumer opinion polls where a group of people is approached at random (selected from the entire (potential) customer base) and asked their opinion, instead the respondents select themselves.
I think Javaranch hosts only decent exams for SCJPThey don't host anything, but link to external sites. Last time I checked (which is several years ago) most were indeed decent.
and the whole site is excellent for SCJP,Except the moderation is weird and tends towards moderators banning people for personal grudges, even simply because you disagree with them.

SJCP from SAI (212-055) problems ?

Hi,
I have SJCP from SAI (212-055), it's probably the same as 310-055,
but now I want to take SCJD (CX-310-252A, and CX-310-027), but in prereqs there is that I need to have SCJP (310-055)...
So.., can I do it with my SCJP (212-055) ? Or I need to take 310-055 first ??
How and when they will check if I have 310-055 ?

I have gone through your log ,the main problem seems to be the firmware.
yes there can be other issues ,like DoS or other attack on the network but its rare in your scenario. So you should first upgrade the WLC firmware. AS 7.6 is being the most stable version if you are not using 2100. After upgradation your LAP connect to WLC and they automatically upgraded also via WLC.
This will resolve the issue but few other things you can try if the above not works ,like you can use winshark to test the ping of death or any unwanted traffic going to the WLC. Or you can check if there is any loop in the network if STP is not properly configured. LAstly check and enable dynamic power and channel assignment from WLC for APs. Make sure you are getting the power required for the devices from the end points.

You might also try watching the new Rambo movie while getting extremely crunk with some friends, then dumping your girlfriend and going on a 3 week vacation touring various parts of Japan.
It's very expensive though, trust me.

on net. They are also rated for being close to the real exams and helping you learn.
Even the resources here is very good. They are also rated by users.

Help abt scjp1.2 xam

hi everyone
i`m willing to take up the scjp xam but i`m confused whether to take up the 1.2 or 1.4 and lately i`ve been hearing abt some 1.5 beta xam but in sun site there`s no such xam listed. as far as 1.2 and 1.4 r concerned it`s been given that 1.4 requires 6 months to 1 yr experience but 1.2 does not have any so i should take up 1.2 first or what
plzz help me abt this i shoul take up the xam before this month ends

According to Kathy Sierra, one of the people working on the next version of the SCJP, it should be out sometime in the next six months or so.
I'd imagine any version of the SCJP requires experience. I've been working for four years, coding Java only, and I'm only now looking at writing the SCJP. Attempting to do the certification without coding experience is asking for trouble.
Also, the 1.2 exam (if it deals with the 1.2 runtime environment as I suspect it does) is to all intents and purposes useless given that the Java VM is now moving into version 1.5 - you'd be getting certified on a 3 generation old VM. Granted, much of the language would remain the same, but a lot of stuff has been added since 1.2, and any employer who was reasonably familiar with Java would be aware of that fact.
Get some experience and then write the SJCP, unless you've got money to burn on rewrites.

Migration 9.0.5.1 - 9.0.5.2: wishes for next release

i just migrate to latter version of JDeveloper. Migration tool is very nice, but i miss:
a) J2SE virtual machines are not migrate. I allways use Sun's.
b) JDev Extensions should be also migrate. I config JWE two months ago and i must do it again.

Java Programming Exam v1.4

Could anyone please e-mail me at [email protected] with information and tutorials with regards to the Sun Certified Java Programmer exam for Java 1.4. I know it sounds stupid, but i've only been learning and programming with java for approx. 2 months and some of the subjects covered in the exam i haven't looked at due to a lack of resouces.

First, don't ask people to reply by private email. Most Forum regulars believe solving problems should be a public, transparent process during which a first try at an answer can and should be corrected if someone more knowledgeable notices that it is incomplete or incorrect. Also, they get some of their reward for being respondents from being seen to be competent and knowledgeable by their peers (not to mention the possibility of collecting some of those precious Duke Dollars).

* Take the mock exams - the tests at javacertificate.com do a good job of helping you identify your strengths and weaknesses. Dan Chisholm's mock exams are tough, but also good for opening your eyes to some things you might not have thought about.
* Concentrate on your weaknesses (mine were assertions, garbage collections, and threads).
* Practice your butt off writing code. Practice, practice, practice. And DON'T use an IDE. Code with a simple text editor and compile from the command line. The test is going to tax your ability to "compile" in your head and you don't want an IDE doing that work for you.
* Familiarize yourself with the Exam objectives. Know those inside and out, and you'll have no trouble with the test. Don't waste time on non-covered topics (e.g. java.io, java.awt).
* Figure out why you want this certification. It's not going to win you any admirers among the gurus. It's probably not going to get you a job. It doesn't mean you can code your way out of a wet paper bag. It's just the start of your journey in Java.

Actually any kind of JAVA test would be appreciatedJust search Google for "mock SJCP exam". And if you really want to use it for employment test: stop testing for Java knowledge and start testing for programing skills. Those things are rather unrelated, and the latter surely is more important.

For me, it was something I wanted to prove to myself - a self-taught, entry-level programmer - I could get. It helped me tremendously in my understanding of basic Java, so I don't regret obtaining the cert one bit. I also realize I have a LONG way to go.
