Skewed Crops on Export??

I am getting about 10-20% of my images that I have cropped come out on export somewhat distorted and definitely NOT the crop i had placed on them. Is this a known or broad issue or something only i am experiencing?
It is easily fixed by a re-export but can be annoying when exporting large batches and each image must be rechecked.

Thank you Soo much!
I thought I'd find it on their on line manuel & ...
I do a lot of speed changes, camera shake warp stabilizer & will soon be throwing in different frame rates (GoPro at 60fps;-)
Now I won't be afraid to use it.
...Pr is new for me & I  didn't see the pop up basic discription,
Your info was very helpful,
Thanks!

  • Cropping and exporting photos

Just got a Kindle Fire HD and am wanting to export photos from my Photoshop Elements catalog onto it. (N.b. looks like I need a 2 stage process to export to local disk and then copy to KF since while KF shows up as a device in windows explorer it isn't recognized in the browse directories in the export menu).
All my photos are captured in 4:3 aspect ratio by my camera .... though I always use the 3x2 framing guide on its EVF so image I want should always be in middle. KF screen is 16:10 aspect ratio so simply exporting photos leaves black bars on either side of photos as it scales photo to fit all on screen - doesn't seem to be the "crop to fit" on the KF viewer.
Is their any automated way to get photoshop to export selected pictures to new files and crop to a specified aspect ratio at the same time?

Being able to 'crop' the sides of an image but not the top and bottom would really be a change in aspect ratio rather than a crop.
Look here [Working with Images|http://documentation.apple.com/en/aperture/usermanual/#chapter=23%26sect ion=10%26hash=apple_ref:doc:uid:Aperture-UserManual-91292BKL-1017399] for all actions you can perform on an image on a book page.
Of course you could modify the image before adding it to the book also.

  • CS5 Crop area + export jpeg

Hi everyone! Just got CS5 (very exciting). Upgraded from CS3. Now in CS3 you could just go Object>Crop Area>Make then when you export as jpeg only what is on the art board will show up on the jpeg. I've seen other people talking about the art board tool and such but I dont want to change the size of the art board or make crop marks, I just want to set an area in which the jpeg will export with out having to remove any thing else on my document. Thanks!

    function(){return A.apply(null,[this].concat($A(arguments)))}

Great tip! and its easy to do.  I wish there was a FAQ on this site because tips like this one would be a great help.

  • Why am I losing crop when exporting from LR (?)

Hi. I'm a newbie to LR and am stumped trying to figure something out (Yes, I've checked all through the forums).  I've made some adjustments to a bunch of photos in LR3--contrast, brightness, etc.  I've also cropped them to 5x7s.  When I export as a JPEG to a separate folder on my Mac, or when I choose to edit in Photoshop using the "Edit a copy with Lightroom adjustments" command, the photos show up with all the LR adjustments... EXCEPT for the crop.  The photos are showing up in the Mac folder and in Photoshop as their original photo size, i.e. their size when I imported them into LR from my card.
What am I missing or doing wrong?  When I export the photos, why aren't they showing up in a separate location or in Photoshop with the 5x7 crop that I performed in LR3?
thanks in advance .. this is driving me nuts.

I think more information is needed...  Can you post a screen shot from LR and PS showing the crop differences?
As the previous poster said, size is not an issue here, don't worry that your 5"x7" crop comes out as 20x28" in PS, if that is your issue.
That said, however, if you've cropped an image, when you export it the image should look the same.  Printing can be different, though, depending on how you are printing.  So let's stick with export/crop to start with!
Please post a couple of sceen shots, one showing LR and the crop you picked, and then one in PS after "edit in PS with LR adustments" done.
    Cheers!

  • Applying a mask and cropping so exports in Flash

I created a Photoshop CS4 file with about 10 layers which I placed in a group.  I've applied a vector mask to the whole group so all of the pictures are masked in an identical manner.  I also cropped the group to the same size.
When I import this file into Flash CS4, all of the layers are showing up at their original sizes (instead of the size I cropped the group to), and the mask isn't being applied.
Can someone explain the proper way to get this layered file into Flash CS4 with the cropped size and mask intact?
    Thanks for the help.

I'm not an expert in photoshop, but I've tried everything I know to apply the mask to multiple layers and was not able to do so, and still maintain separate layers. I selected all the layers first and tried to apply a mask, and that didn't work. Then I grouped all the layers and was still unable to apply a single mask to all layers. The only way I was able to apply a mask to all layers was to flatten the image. Given that you're importing it into flash, I'm assuming that you're animating the various layers to acheive a certain effect. If that's the case, then flattening the image to apply the mask to the entire document at once doesn't make sense. If you're using the entire image without the need for layers, then of course you can flatten the image and then use the mask to make a selection and clear the unwanted parts of the image.
I have to imagine that there's a way to do what you're asking, but with my level of experience, I'm unable to find a way to make it happen. There may be a way to export the file to flash with the layer mask intact, or perhaps there's a way to apply the mask to all layers at once, but I'm unable to find it. I would apply it to each layer individually which may take a few more minutes, as it's the only way I can find.
The only other option I can think of, is to place the entire psd file in a flash document directly. CS5 allows this in After Effects and Premiere Pro, which may keep the mask intact. I don't know enough about Flash to know if that's possible as well, but it's worth a shot.
As a final suggestion, maybe you can do all of your annimation and effects in After Effects, then just save it as a Flash file. I've done this before and it's allowed me to create rather robust annimations and effects without having to learn the more complicated aspects of creating a flash document from scratch.
Hopefully one of the CS5 gurus will see this and point the way to a quicker solution, but this is all I know to do at the moment.
Best of luck with your project.
P.S. To answer the last part of your question, yes, I can only imagine that as a workaround, you can make a selection from the mask and clear the unwanted sections of each layer, and then bring it into Flash.

  • Crop and export as tiff file

I could not find my answer anywhere here. I cropped a group of files using 4 x 6 setting. Then exported as tiff files. I expected the files to be 4 x6 but they were not. The exported files were the cropped area as expected but the file size is approx 8 x 12.
I would think if you exported cropped pictures the output would be the cropped size.
    What am I missing?
Thanks for any help or suggestions.

That what LR has is Aspect Ratios not crop size. To define a size with the crop ratio fill in the Constrain Pixel size dimensions in the Export Dialogue.

  • Cropping for exporting to jpg

I recently upgraded from CS - so I am trying to figure out how to do something I did so easily before. I have artwork that has been masked. I have masked off everthing but what I want and set the crop area to my wanted artwork.  Then I export to jpg.  The result is my image with all of the masked area showing as white - so my image is small with a huge white border.  I have tried making my artboard the exact size of my image, flatten transperancy...everything I can think of and I still have this problem.  It is like the crop area is just not working, it is exporting the entire thing, even though it has been masked.  I only have one layer of artwork.  What am I doing wrong?

Illustrator is not smart enough to crop to you artboard if you for example have a masked image. As per Monika check Use artbaords in either the export to jpg or save to web/image tab.
I also get thin white hairlines, anyone know what causes these (see the vertical white line at about 60% of the way from the left side). Exporting to different file formats either gets rid of them or moves them to another location so I can frankenstein a working image.

  • Photos getting randomly cropped on export

Using iPhoto 9.4.3 on a MacBook Pro running OS X 10.8.3.
I export my best photos from iPhoto into a folder that I use for desktop displays. I have about 150 photos that have all been cropped to screen size. When I export them, some of the photos get further cropped. I've tried re-exporting, but the same thing happens ... to different photos.

Yeah, I think that was what happened: I tried to reload from the library I was having trouble with, and I think I accidentally told it to load everything.
But when the problem does not occur with all photos, or even consistently with the same photo, what would loading a few random photos prove? I have other iPhoto libraries, but I don't normally export from them, nor do I spend much time working with the others, so I don't know if the problem is localized or system-wide.
I'm thinking I might just ignore the problem and re-export the photos that get cropped until I get a version that doesn't "shrink."

  • Crop, Size, & Export?

How do you crop an image to 5x7 and export a new file that is 5x7 at 300 dpi?
I used the crop tool to crop an image to 5x7 and made my adjustments. Then I went to Export, and I made a nex export setting for a Jpeg, Original size, at 300 dpi. Then I exported. When I open the file in Photoshop, it is 300 dpi, but it is not 5x7 in size. How can I do this?
    Kevin Hawkins

Here is how you do it:
    1) Crop your image as usual in Aperture to 5x7 proportions
    2) Start the export process (File>Export>Export Version)
    3) At the bottom of the dialog box, click on the "Export Preset" menu, then pull down to "Edit"
    4) Click the "+" sign at the bottom left corner
    5) If you want to export a vertical JPG, name the new preset something like "Vertical JPEG 5x7 @ 300ppi"
    6) In the right side column, select "JPEG" as the image format and choose the quality as well.
    7) Click on the "Size To" menu, then pull down to "Fit Within (inches)"
    8) Insert the width, height and dpi
    9) Choose a profile
    10) Click OK
    11) Select where to save the file, then press "Export Versions" button
Now, you have this preset available for vertical 5x7's @ 300ppi whenever you export images.
    Hope this helps!

  • Slight Crop Upon Export

    Hi All,
I have some DV footage that has a 4:3 aspect ratio. I'm a novice, and once I export my sequence out of FCP (Export--> Quicktime Movie, implementing the "Current Settings"), I just resize the width of the of the newborn quicktime file to 640 by 480 (from 720 by 480) right in Quicktime Player (Window---> Show Movie Properties). Doing this has allowed me to conveniently avoid learning about the differences in pixel shape.
I am trying to use Compressor to streamline my workflow. However, when I export these same sequences, using the same DV NTSC settings (in Compressor now), I have an ever-so-slight crop in the horizontal direction... under ten pixels I'd say. But then again I don't even know what a pixel is anymore.
Can someone explain why FCP exports my sequence so that my titles, which are very close to edge of the frame, DON'T get clipped but when I use compressor they do? Exporting to iPod video in compressor (4:3) works fine... it's just DV and h.264 that clip the edges.
    THanks,
    Cyrus

I'm still confused though because the "Normal Size" (as indicated in the Inspector window of Quicktime PLayer) is now 655 by 480....
Yeah, the normal sizes (hah!) got adjusted in QuickTime recently. It was formerly 640x480 for a file like yours, but since 7.4 the sizes are now all weird. Seems to only be a display thing though, in QT Player - haven't noticed any issues when using them, say, as source files for other apps.

  • Image cropped when exporting to PNG

    Hello,
I'm trying to export a 24x23px image (seen below magnified) into PNG file.
When I do that at Screen 72ppi, for some reason when it's all done it's cropped (as seen below in the example).
I tried exporting at High 300ppi (in which case nothing is cropped) and then resizing it in Corel Paint Shop, but in that case I have these "shadow effects" at 12 and 3 o'clock of the semicircle... the quality isn't great anyway.
Any idea why AI is cropping? I'm using CS4.
    Thanks in advance.

Another example...  I have this round button that after exporting has "flat spots" at 3 and 6 o'clock.  Please see attachments for example.
I've tried so many things, but I can't make it look perfectly round.  I know that it's possible since our company already has other buttons (already in PNG format) in this exact format and they look perfect.  But the person who did that isn't here anymore and he most likely used AI CS3 or something earlier.
    Thanks

  • Battling Hardware MPE, Episode 1: Cropping on Export

This is likely going to be a series of posts about some of the--shall we say--quirks I've encounted when trying to work with hardware acceleration/MPE with CS5. I should preface this by saying that I am, at this time, using a GTX 480 which is obviously unsupported, so I'm willing to accept that any of what I've come across is due to this fact; however, I'm pretty sure that these issues are endemic to hardware accelerated MPE, in general.
The first quirk I've found is that when exporting from Premiere with GPU acceleration activated, using the Export button, while cropping the source using the export crop function, the resulting encoded file is not properly rendered. Specifically, this set of variables results in black bars in the encoded video, seemingly the result of the "Scale to Fit" parameter being ignored. The source sequence type and material as well as the destination format do not seem to matter; originally, I thought this was an issue with the H.264 encoder, which I use for exporting small emailable spot reviews, but I've confirmed it with other formats like Flash and AVI as well.
Since a picture is worth 1000 words, what follows are four screenshots illustrating the two variables I'm testing--namely, GPU acceleration and direct export vs. AME queue. For reference, the source sequence is a standard DV NTSC sequence, with a mish-mash of graphics and footage, and I'm exporting to a Lagarith AVI, 320x240, progressive, cropping 12L,4T,12R,4B, Scale to Fit. No, I wouldn't ordinarily export to such a file, but it's the same regardless of format, scaling, or cropping values.
GPU Acceleration off, sent to AME queue:
    GPU Acceleration off, direct export:
GPU Acceleration on, sent to AME queue:
    GPU Acceleration on, direct export:
In the last one, you can clearly see the issue. Since the aspect ratio of the rendered file isn't changing, it would appear that the Scale to Fit option is not necessarily being overriden, but it's almost as if the crop values are being reapplied and creating the black bars.
So, if this is due to hardware MPE, why isn't it appearing when sending the export to the AME queue? Well, here's my theory: hardware acceleration/rendering isn't being used when the export is sent to the queue! Check out the first three images: they are exactly the same. I would expect this of the two "GPU off" screenshots, but not of the "GPU on" screenshot.
Now compare the two "GPU on" images; the one showing the cropping bug is noticeably sharper, and it shows the telltale signs of the linear light processing that hardware MPE is supposed to enable (which is another issue I'll cover later). You can see the blue light rays coming off the sparks much more clearly in the last image (again, not that I like this, or that it should be that way, but it's an indicator that MPE is working).
So what the heck is going on here? Is this a bug, a quirk due to me using an unsupported card, or is this a "feature" in much the same way that linear light processing of GPU accelerated MPE is a feature? This would be a pretty simple thing for anyone to test: just create a DV sequence, throw anything in it (color bars would work), crop 8 pixels off the sides in the export window, and use the Export button to render to any particular format at 320x240 (I've confirmed this with other frame sizes, by the way).
Hoping to get to the bottom of this... thanks for any discussion this may spark.

Yep, Huston we have a problem.  I can reproduce your example. I have a GTX285.  Everything works great on my setup.  I have MPE enabled.
I also tried a variation of your example.  I exported a 1280x720 image to a DV 720x480 Wide format.  I cropped 8pix from the TOP and Bottom so no black bars should be seen..
If exported via Queue, fine.  If exported directly the resultant image is cropped to 4x3.

  • Cropping After Export

I have a question regarding my premiere elements 10.  I imported a video from my HD Cannon video camera and edited the video in Premiere.  I tried to share the video on youtube and it cut the bottom of the video off.  I tried to export the video to Adobe Flash and when I played it the bottom was cut off in Flash as well.  The bottom of this particular video is important.  Does anyone have any suggestions?  I am using Adobe Premiere 10 and Windows 7.  Thanks

What model of camcorder is your original footage from and what resolution is it?
When you started your Premiere Elements project, which settings did you select? If you did not select settings, what are the project settings listed under Edit/Project Settings?
What Share option and preset did you select?

  • Can't crop PDFs exported from Pages anymore

    Dear all,
first of all: I'm aware that the issue is not truely a Pages one, but it's related and I think the right people for an answer follow this forum.
Short history: All starts with the problem that Pages somehow defines a minimal page size, often larger than the figures I'm creating for my thesis are. The usual workflow so far was: Export to PDF from the Pages print dialogue; open resulting PDF in Preview; make and copy the figure part; in Preview create new PDF from clipboard.
Recently, I switched to using the Abracadabra quartz filters to export PDFs from Pages, to get better quality shadows, which seems to work fine. However, now the above workflow does not work anymore. After copying the selection in the resulting PDF, the new PDF from clipboard still has the same paper dimensions as the original, not as the selection. I also tried Skim in any way, no success so far.
Does somebody have an idea? Thanks!

    1. You do not need to flatten transparency while you are setting up the design space and populating it with graphic data, only when you save to ISO 15930 PDF/X-3 or ISO 19005-1:2005 PDF/A. Transparency was first supported in Apple QuickDraw GX in 1994, in Apple Quartz in 2000, and in Adobe PDF 1.4 in 2001. Adobe PDF 1.3 and Adobe PostScript level 1, 2, and 3 use an opaque imaging model.
    1. You need to think about whether you want your typography to be searchable if you plan to distribute your thesis for paper-less publishing. Half or more of the glyphs in an intelligent font are presentation forms that cannot be directly depicted onto characters in ISO-IEC 10646. Presentation forms can be composed in Apple system type services, but they cannot be decomposed for search after saving to Apple system PDF services.

  • How to crop/export footage in 2.39:1

Using premiere pro 1.5....... have footage i shot in 16:9 and would like to crop and export into 2.39:1 or similar aspect ratio without stretching... any ideas?
    thx

    The formula is thus:
Do the math on the original aspect ratio. 16 / 9 = 1.777.  Divide that by the aspect ratio you want to end up with.  1.777 / 2.39 = .74.  Multiply that by 100 and we get 74%.  Subtract that from 100% and we get 26%.  So 26% of your current image needs to be gotten rid of to create the 2.39 aspect ratio.  Which means a 13% crop top and bottom.
You can do that by using the crop effect within Premiere if you're making a DVD or Blu-ray.  Or you can do that in the Export step if you're creating a computer or web file.
