SkillSoft Course Player

I can not seem to access my online college course (in PC computing) via Safari or Explorer. The problem is due to Sun Java not making a Mac version of RunTime for Java. The only fix I have found is to load VP and XP on my G5 (this runs very slow) or load XP on my MacBook Pro via Boot Camp (this works great, if you like running a windows OS). Does anyone know a way to make it work on a Mac in Safari or maybe another compatible browser, thanks.
PowerMac G5   Mac OS X (10.4.6)

Is your courseware accesable to anyone, or do you need to log in. If the former, can you give us the address?

  • Authoring Environment Integration with SkillSoft

    Has anybody ever integrated an External Course provided by Skillsoft, with the Authoring Environment?.
    The Course is SCORM v 1.2 Compliant but each time I try to do a test run using the Content Player it gives the following error message---
    " SkillSoft Course Player has encountered an error while communicating with the Learning Management System. As a result, your session will be closed."
    Has anybody ever encountered this before?. Any inputs?
    Once I perform the consistency check on the course in the local work directory, it still does NOT give me a 100% error free result.
    It says the following error--

  • Stop firefox opening multiple update tabs automatically

    Hi there I'm having trouble with firefox opening up auto update tabs by itself. When you are on any site after about 5 seconds a new tab opens requesting you to auto update my video player. Then 5 seconds later another tab opens saying the same thing. and again. and again and so on perpetually. If left unattended for two minutes 85+ tabs will have opened. I am running firefox 30 on windows 7. I have found a temporary fix is to reset firefox. This works for a few days and then the update will occur 5-10 times in a session and then stop. Then a few days later it reaches critical mass and hijacks firefox, tab after tab after tab.
    I would like to have gotten a screen shot but the reset lost the tabs. I don't think the problem will have shown in the troubleshooting diagnostic (mainly due to the reset). I have gone through my history and have managed to get the common URLs of the tabs.

    During all this going on is a program file download/install box is appearing asking if I want to save the file. Its 1.2 meg entitled player_setup.exe from download source http://kyle.mxp2203<i></i>.com/I2ETeZ9CRw3yY0pXQgCz3Ks7vFKYiPYoWpVJ7FDEM_LNTKNN4VpnFBNK408G1M9qRBUoGCRE1XTI-LPLDH-vsA-jFn3DLSvbup3AAcZaR3XjA8bbIoFhtsDY4dpBIl6j
    I thought if I downloaded the file and ran it then the messages would disappear. The file was a media player file associated with multiple advertising addons that would be installed if you did a typical install. I did a custom install and only installed the player. This did not stop the problem. The tab thing remained. I have uninstalled the program. The problem existed a few weeks before I did this so installing was not a trigger for further attacks.
    I have discovered that resetting firefox also breaks a few links. I have to re-allow popups and re-enable my java plugins. I am enrolled in a tafe course and it also runs a diagnostic. This is what it checks.

    I had a bit more of a look at my plugins through the add-on manager. Java deployment toolkit 7 was installed. And came up with a warning message that Java deployment toolkit 7 was vulnerable. On checking for more information I get diverted to

  • Dynamic page based on directory content/structure

    I'm trying to build a web page based the content of a directory. I'm going to try and explain this as briefly as possible, yet still make sense.
    There are many more file than this, but an example of the directory of the index.html's looks like this:
    e:\Inetpub\wwwroot\Courses\Dev\Environmental Management Systems\Content\Install\Templates\en\index.html
    e:\Inetpub\wwwroot\Courses\Dev\Environmental Management Systems\Content\player\index.html
    e:\Inetpub\wwwroot\Courses\Dev\Environmental Management Systems\Content\scp\index.html
    e:\Inetpub\wwwroot\Courses\Dev\Environmental Management Systems\index.html
    With this structure, the root path is: e:\Inetpub\wwwroot\Courses.
    Dev would become a main section.
    Environmental Management Systems would become a Course title, because it has an index.html.
    I want to ignore the rest of the index.html's underneath.
    A caveat to this, is I need it to possibly go one level deeper.
    e:\Inetpub\wwwroot\Courses\Dev2\Manufacturing\Environmental Management Systems\Content\Install\Templates\en\index.html
    e:\Inetpub\wwwroot\Courses\Dev2\Manufacturing\Environmental Management Systems\Content\player\index.html
    e:\Inetpub\wwwroot\Courses\Dev2\Manufacturing\Environmental Management Systems\Content\scp\index.html
    e:\Inetpub\wwwroot\Courses\Dev2\Manufacturing\Environmental Management Systems\index.html
    Here, Dev2 becomes main section
    Manufacturing becomes sub section
    Environmental Management Systems would become a Course title, because it has an index.html.
    Of course there are a lot more files, which is part of the problem I'm having. Right now it takes about 8 seconds to read all the files, which is too long for building a page. Once I get all the main, subs, and Courses determined, I would then build the page, using some kind of menu.
    Below is the code I have that searches all files under a parent folder, I'm just not sure how to make it stop once it finds the correct index.html. I started to put in a recursive stop, but haven't quite figured out how to implement that either.
    Any help is greatly appreciated. I'm open to any and all suggestions. Btw, the intention here, is that the person that manages these courses can just ftp a new course directory to the server, and it's then available.
    Thanks,
    James

    </HTML>

    Architecturally, I would not put this code in a JSP, put it in a Plain Old Java Object that gets called by a Servlet, builds the tree, then passes the tree to the JSP for display. It will make things easier in the long run.
    I would also look into caching the results. When you traverse the directory structure, hold the results in memory. Use a timestamp that records the last time the \Courses\ directory was traversed, and compare it to the \Courses\ last modified time. If \Courses\ was modified after the timestanp then re-load the content. This would reduce that 8 second load time to only occur when changes were made.
    Similarly, you could further reduce loading time by
    1) Compare a section with those sections already loaded. If it doesn't exist, then traverse it and add the directory structure
    2) If the section does exist, use a timestamp and modified time to see if it the section has changed. If it has changed, traverse it and update the directory structure
    3) If the section does exist and hasn't been modified, leave it alone.
    You would then want to make classes to represent the entire tree of files - which would contain a timestamp and a list of sections (main sections). Each section would have a timestamp, a list of sub-sections, and a list of courses. A course would have a timestamp and a list of files for the course. And as was mentioned this tree structure would be held in memory and returned as needed.
    For viewing files that are too deep in the structure, that will take more looking into than I have time for now. Sorry.

    Hi,
    I am facing the same Issue.
    The User logging into the Portal has the suggested 2 roles for Course Player and Learner.
    Can you suggest if there is any other solution that you can think off?
    I had tried to access the Portal directly via the BSP HCM_LEARNING directly. I am getting the same error.

  • Command line parameters and resuming

    Hi,
    I am researching for a client who wishes to have several students (K-12) using Adobe Captivate course on the same computer. Another constraint is that a course is run from DVD (1+ GB in size) so it's published as standalone application (.exe for Windows, .app for Mac). Quick questions:
    Can a course have an action to parse command line parameters? I haven't found that.
    Explanation: this would be used to simply parse a name and e-mail address (if possible) and last module passed to a course player. Resuming could be disabled (there is an answer how to do that in the forum) or overridden but the learner should be transferred to a slide to resume based on the calling parameter (and not the default resuming - there will be several users so each must resume from the last passed module slide).
    Can a progress of the current learner using the course be saved to a database (no LMS, e-mail, Acrobat.com etc)?
    Explanation: this is needed for the current learner and for each one separately. I guess I already have a solution in mind (custom application, having small internal web server like Mongoose, with a script that replaces internalServerReporting.php and saves the data to a internal database, SQLite). But for this to work spawning a course with command line parameters and course itself reading these parameters would need to work.
    If there is a (better) solution for the above, please reply. The goal is have minimal changes on the course e.g. if there are command line parameters, then parse them and do something (mark modules passed, open appropriate next slide). If parameters are not given/recognized, do nothing (so the course would still work on computers used by one learner only, including resuming etc).
    My opinion is that this should also be one-way as much as possible. E.g. additional application handles user name, e-mail and current progress and spawns Captivate course. The published course itself should not depend on the application like reading progress from a text file (though an URL call could return current progress from an application for the same user name). So ideally only changes to use internal server publishing to save current progress and adding a logic to check parameters at start would be applied to a course.
    Waiting for your smart answers.
    Matt

    DVDs, when finalized, are read-only... so unless you are considering to do an Install of the course from the DVD to the machine, you're not going to be able to write to a database.  A USB stick may be more suitable in this situation.
    Command line params are not possible with EXEs unless you create your own EXE wrapper.  If you're going to go through that trouble, you'd be better off creating an Adobe Air application that can run your local web content without security restrictions and use SQLite or some other backend to store the data.
    Can the progress be saved?  It depends what you mean by progress.  If you just want to allow the student to resume from the slide where they left off... you can do that with a bit of JavaScript.  However, if you want to ensure that any previous questions answered on a quiz were also resumed and intact from the previous session... not possible without an LMS.
    Why not run a Moodle installation via a USB stick and you can have a full featured LMS with a database and ability to resume a previous session?

    Just some things to consider...

  • Articulate SCORM 1.2 content hangs when launched in Oracle OLM 12.1.3 RUP4

    Hi Folks,
    Using Oracle Learning Management (OLM) version 12.1.3. I have successfully uploaded the content zip having previously replaced 5.xsd's with the Oracle specific ones. The content uploads without error as expected.
    Tracking type is set to SCORM 1.2 in OLM (CMI is not a listed option in this version). I've also uploaded the SCORM adapter and validated that this is working correctly. I have also uploaded, launched and successfully played the Oracle SCORM test object to verify and all checks out ok.
    I have an issue where content begins to launch in the OLM course player and then hangs indefinitely. Status bar get to about 25% and stops.
    The content is published to LMS > SCORM 1.2 in Articulate presenter. This is not unique to one piece of content we have created using Articulate (I've tested 3 and they all behave the same).
    I'm assuming that this points to the issues being content specific but I've not ruled-out that it may be some relating to JAVA or specific to the clients IT Infrastructure.
    Any advice and guidance would be much appreciated.
    Thanks and regards

    Hey Scott, good to hear from you.
    Ever the Guru I see, hope life is treating you well at Seertech.
    Articulate is version 9 and it's Presenter, the clients pc's have Flash version 10,1,102,64 installed. On that basis do you reckon the Flash updater is worth a go?
    Also not sure if it's relevant but on the Flash Player angle, the same content published in AICC in presenter plays fine.

  • Oracle iLearning - playing content is very slow

    Hello,
    We have problem with iLearning speed. When the content is played in the application server, it shows the content really quickly, but when it is played on the local PC, the speed decreases dramatically. We have checked the servers, the network, everything is fine. What we found, that the speed of viewing learning content on local PC is fast (same as it viewed on server) when no Java is installed (of course in this case we always get errors, and it is impossible to view tests). It looks like, problem can be with Java. Maybe it can be Java configuration problem on server side?
    Thank you.
    Vaida

    Hello Scott,
    "When the content is played in the application server, it shows the content really quickly" - yes, I mean when the learner enters the Oracle iLearning site in the application server (locally where the application server is installed) and launches the course (it is played in the Oracle iLearning course player).
    "but when it is played on the local PC, the speed decreases dramatically" - I mean that the learner enters the Oracle iLearning site outside the application server (on his own computer) and launches the same course with Oracle iLearning player.
    Regards,
    Vaida

  • Is it normal for Adobe Reader 10.1.0 to hang?

    As of a few minutes ago I noticed that within Task Manger it said that my Adobe reader was running. Although none of the windows I had open contained anything running off Adobe. Even when I closed my browser window completely  (Firefox 6.0) they still remained. It wasn't until I restarted my computer that they no longer displayed. I did find out what caused Adobe to open in the first place, it was a PDF within the Primavera online highschool course player. However, upon closing the window this time Adobe disapeared as it should. Is it normal for Adobe Reader 10.1.0 to sometimes hang even if all browsing history & other private data is immediatly removed upon closing?

    That is normal. It stays active in case you open another PDF. If it didn't, you'd end up waiting for the plug-in to start up for every PDF you open.

  • SWF keeps playing in the Background

    Hello,
    I am using a Flash based course player (AS3) to play SWF slides, both from Flash and Captivate. My problem is that when I click Next when viewing a Captivate SWF, I can hear the audio overlapping when on the next slide (if I clicked next without letting the captivate swf finish). Any ideas how to silence that swf??
    Any help appreciated!

    Looks like I solved this by changing the publish settings from AS3 to AS2.

  • UPK11 - SCORM and Blackboard 9.1

    We are new to using UPK at Arizona State University.
    We are trying to figure out the "LMS" publishing using SCORM -
    (We think we have most of the "player" functionality as far as publishing figured out).
    What we are looking for is if the LMS publishing via SCORM can allow us to show an individual topic from withing a Blackboard 9.1 shell.
    We know about the stand alone topics, but having our end-users have to download a player before viewing the topic will be problematic in our environment.
    Has anyone successfully connect UPK 11 content and Blackboard?
    We would be very interested in any Wisdom that you can share!
    Paul

    I don't think many Blackboard users have the option of just "changing the LMS".  That's a decision that would be out of their control.
    My suggestion is to make sure that the users who are not getting their course modules marked completed are actually moving beyond the Quiz Results slide.  In many cases you'll find that learners are just shutting down the course player as soon as they get to the Quiz Results slide.  This can mean their score is not transmitted to the LMS.
    I've found that with many LMSs you need to have at least one slide beyond the Quiz Results slide and you need to force (or at least strongly encourage) the learners to click the Continue button on the Quiz Results slide to ensure the timeline moves into that final slide.  So I rename the Continue button to something more encouraging like REGISTER YOUR SCORE! so that learners believe they need to click this button.

  • Why do scaled and masked captivate swfs respond to clicks outside the mask? Can it be stopped?

    We load Captivate 3 SWFs at runtime into our own course player, with movieclip.loadmovie. Our player is built with AS2 and published to Flash 8. We publish our Captivate movies to the same specs. Our latest challenge requires scaling and masking the Captivate SWF.
    A click outside the masked Captivate still triggers a click as far as Captivate is concerned, and it throws up a “that’s incorrect” message. Specifically, it only happens when you click in a spot that has masked Captivate “behind” it. In other words, if there would be Captivate there if the mask was turned off, Captivate will respond even when the mask is turned on.
    Is there a way to make Captivate ignore mouse clicks outside of the mask? I think it must be responding to Mouse.onMouseDown() since normally a masked object won’t respond to clicks outside the mask.
    I’ve put together a small test file to demonstrate exactly what’s happening, and I’ve posted it here: http://www.tbgprod.com/_experiments/captivatemasktest/captivatemasktest.swf
    I’ve also uploaded the .fla file. It’s ony 50kb and it’s available here: http://www.tbgprod.com/_experiments/captivatemasktest/MaskTest01.fla
    You’ll also need the Captivate .swf file if you want to test locally. Here’s the direct link. Right-click and save target as: http://www.tbgprod.com/_experiments/captivatemasktest/DisplayProperties.swf
    My question is "how do I make Captivate ignore clicks outside the mask?"
    Many thanks,
    Todd S

    Even if anyone just has any knowledge of how Captivate 3 movies actually monitor the mouse, I'd be happy to hear it. In other words, can anyone confirm my hunch? If we knew the internal structure of the Captivate SWF would it be possible to clear and restore some function as the mouse moves inside or outside of the target area? Something like this:
    on mousemove {
         if mouse has crossed boundary to the outside {
              functionBuffer = container.whatever.whatever.function;
              container.whatever.whatever.function = null;
         else if mouse has cross boundary to the inside {
              container.whatever.whatever.function = functionBuffer;
    This would kill Captivate's mouse functions and then bring them back to life, as the mouse exits and re-enters the masked Captivate area. Two questions:
    1. If we knew the necessary whatever.whatever.function information, would this work?
    2. Does anybody know the necessary whatever.whatever.function information?
