Skin - Play button in center of first slide

On Captivate presentations created by by predecessor, a round "Play" button appeared in the center of the first slide as part of the applied skin. I'm using the same skin in Captivate 5, but do not get the play button on the first slide.
Is there a setting I am missing?

Hi there
Try editing the preferences. Press Shift+F8. Then click Project > Start and End.
My guess is that Auto Play is enabled and needs to be DE-selected as shown below.

Without a link, it's anybody's guess.
It could be a problem the video rendering itself. Which software did you use?
Did you export to the 3 file types -- MP4, OGG and WEBM to support all browsers?
Does your web server support those 3 MIME file types?

[Captivate 8] HTML5 Publishing - First Slide shows locally but not on test server

Hi all,
The Question
Has anyone run into this issue of the first slide not showing on HTML5 (and/or SWF) until you open up the TOC and select the recalcitrant slide and then it shows (and operates) just fine? Not on project load, just when it is selected.
The Description
I've only been using Captivate 8 for a short period of time, and I've run face first into a little bit of a bigger hurdle than I expected. At present, I have a simple, linear Captivate project that in essence replicates a Powerpoint (client specified). Everything was working just fine until I tried a HTML 5 Preview from Captivate 8 and first slide did not show. After some research my solutions to the problems I encountered was to:
Local preview occasionally causes a glitch. Solution: Publish locally and (pre)view the result. This didn't work.
Group all objects on the first slide and then attach the action Show to that group. This fixed the problem.
Following that I published it to a host server (test server at the moment, but ultimately it will the live dev server). I encountered the same problem, so:
Tried the group trick, above. No joy.
Opened up the TOC and navigated to the other slides. None of the buttons (previous slide, next slide) worked.
Renamed the "Mouse.mp3" to remove that annoying click. Result: All project buttons worked, but the first slide was not showing (grouped or otherwise).
Removed all master slide objects from the slide. No joy.
Removed the button (action: Next Slide) and reduced the play time of the slide to 5 seconds so that the slide would play upon loading, then just move to the next slide. No joy.
Tried all of the above with SWF and HTML 5 publication.
Tried all of the above with SWF only.
Once again, when I open up the TOC and navigate to the first slide ("Title Page") the blank slide that is populated only by the lonesome borders becomes the Title slide, as it should. Also, local preview from the file (\project\index.htm) works just fine.
Obviously I'm missing something. It's probably something incredibly obvious, so I thank you for your patience.
The Technical
Captivate 8.0.0.145
OS: Maverick OSX and Windows XP Pro SP1
Other: Adobe CS (up-to-date install)

First, apologies--I didn't see the "Getting Started" sub-community so if this thread can be moved there then thank you. Second, I missed some important details.
Project Details
Captivate 8, blank project*. Content at the moment is only text captions, media resources (pictures, two web objects [to Vimeo]), and transparent buttons. The project is stripped of the play bar as it is a self-paced lesson/module.
* I don't have the lead time to make this a responsive design, though that is the ultimate goal once the one-size-fits-all version (1024x627) has been released.
Testing Hardware Details
The following are the machines and browsers I've tested the HTML5 output on.
Mac (10.9.4) -- Chrome 36.0.1985.125 (hangs; need to open the TOC and click on "Title Page"), Firefox 30 (works fine), Safari 7.0.5 (9537.77.4) (works fine)
Windows 7 Pro SP1 -- IE 11 (works straight away! *shock*), Chrome 35.0.1916.153 m (hung, but on refresh worked fine), Firefox 31.0 (throws out unsupported error [known feature] but then loads up just fine).
Chromebook -- Chrome OS 35.0.1916.155 (worked straight off).
Smartphones -- Not supported, but iPhone 4S (iOS 7.1.2) (works fine, but not designed); Galaxy S5 Chrome (broken).
Tablets -- iPad2 (iOS 7.1.2) (play button loads partial content, on refresh works fine); Galaxy Note 10.1 2014 Chrome (broken), Android Browser (works fine).
I'm more than willing to share a link to the project and the Captivate 8 file, but just thought that I would see if this gets any traction/recognition before going deeper.

Phantom Play Button Appearing in middle of first slide

I have a Play button appearing in the middle of my first slide and cannot figure out where it is coming from. I
do not have any selections made for a control panel . Here is a capture of what I am getting. Anyone else have this problem? I really need help on this one. Never saw it before.

You may believe it to be a "Phantom", but the odds are you actually told it to be there.
Try clicking Edit > Preferences > Project > Start and End.
My money is betting that you have cleared the "Auto Play" check box at the top of that screen.

After reading your post, it sounds like you are experiencing an error with the Podcasts app. You may want to consider restarting the device first, and then resetting if that does not work. This article provides detailed instructions for Restarting, and Reseting:
Turn your iOS device off and on (restart) and reset
How to restart
Press and hold the Sleep/Wake button on the top of your device until the red slider appears. Then drag the slider to turn your device completely off.
After the device turns off, press and hold the Sleep/Wake button again until you see the Apple logo.
How to reset
You should reset your device as a last resort and only if you can't restart it.
To reset, press and hold both the Sleep/Wake and Home buttons for at least 10 seconds, until you see the Apple logo.

White Slide with Play Button (HTML5), Cp7

Does anyone know why you get the blank white screen with a play button with HTML5? Why doesn't it use first frame or allow us to put in a "poster file"?
I posted a workaround that required editing files in Cp6 but I am curious if Cp7 has addressed this issue?

The same workaround is reuired.
Go in assets and change the .CSS then you also need to edit the index.html to center the image like you did before.
And yes it is impossible to get rid of it all toghether because of Apple policies.

How do I restrict the first slide from playing?

Could someone please tell me how to restrict my first slide from playing again. My app opens specified web pages with a button click. When I use the back button on my phone to close the web page, it goes back to the intro slide and plays it again. I would like the back button to bring the user back to the last page visited but I don't know how to do that. Please help.

my app has an intro slide, the next slide has several buttons on it. Each button opens a different website. when the user clicks a button the web site opens. When the user has finished reading the website they exit by using the back button on their phone. When they do, the app starts over again and plays the intro. I don't want it to play the intro over and over as the user comes back from the website. I want them to come back to the slide with all the buttons. I've tried several things but it always plays the intro slide again each time. I only want the intro to play once when they first open the app and then not play again. Can I do this?

Suppressing Back Button on First Slide

I have a created a custom Playback Control with just the play
(=forward) and back buttons. My reviewers liked the results, but
criticised that the back button shouldn't appear on the first
slide. Is there any way to get around this? I am using Captivate
1.01.1418 and do not have any flash editing tools or
experience.

I am using my Description as the caption on Slideshow. I ticked the "Show Title Slide" button and iPhoto physically copied the description on the first slide onto the end of every other description. I can find no way of removing them other than by hand.

DURIM - Okay. I would expect the "Cache Warning" message because your default directories would not be the same as the ones in the settings file I generated.
If you go back to the "7.0" directory and open the "Logs" folder, can you copy the "Audition Log.txt" file and send it as an attachment to [email protected]? We'll take a look in that logfile and see if it gives us more information about why this is failing now.
Also, do you have any other Adobe applications installed on this machine, such as Premiere Pro? If so, do they launch as expected or fail as well?
I do have the trial Pro version of Adobe reader, but I have not activated it, because I fear the same thing will happen did it. I cannot afford to activate the subscription for that product and take the chance of it not working either. I depend on those two programs religiously. Here is the files that you requested. End of slide - click play button

My presentations have audio narrations of varying lengths.
The beginning of the presentation indicates that the users need to
click play to advance from slide to slide, but it appears some
users are unsure when a slide has ended so they sit there for a
while before they get around to hitting the play button to advance
(I don't want to auto-play the presentation because I want them to
have more control over navigation and to prevent them from just
spacing out and losing track of where they are). I find it
annoyingly repetitive to say something like "Click play to
continue" at the end of each slide - and since many slide have
Captivate animations covering the whole screen, having a text
prompt display doesn't seem like it would work very well.
Has anyone experimented with either using some kind of tone
or sound to indicate the end of a slide, kind of like they do on
some language tapes to indicate the user needs to do something? Or
else is there an actionscript way to make the play button highlight
in an obvious way?
Any ideas are appreciated, thanks!

I just completed a keynote presentation, but it will not "play"...I just get a blank slide (probably the final slide) when I hit the play button, even though I can see all the slides are in the list and will open as I click on them. HELP!

At the risk of stating the obvious, is your first slide highlighted before you hit play? You mentioned the last blank slide shows up which could mean you have that last slide highlighted. If the last slide is highlighted and you hit play then that is the slide that will show up and if it's your last slide that is all you will see.

Using default CS5 skin, play/pause & stop buttons disabled until going fullscreen

We are using default CS5 skins with an flvplayback component built through action script 3. When playing certain videos (and only certain videos, however there isn't yet a pattern), the play/pause, stop & seek buttons are completely unresponsive. They don't change stats on hover & they are unclickable.
However, the fullscreen button does always work, and upon going fullscreen and coming back out, the buttons now work again.
I really have no idea what is going on here, it seems rather random. So far, the problem was seemingly at its worst displaying a video that was encoded with Sorenson spark (an older codec) and we wondered if it had to do with the file itself, the headers, anything of that sort. But the fact that the skin and buttons work fine once entering and exiting fullscreen - that is perplexing.

Just an update, but the following line:
my_FLVPlybk.scaleMode = "noScale";
Has something to do with the issue. When we include this line (which tells the player to resize to the size of the given FLV), we get the problem with the buttons not working. If we take the line out, we do not see that problem.

Play button displaying on all slides

When I view a published project in SCORM cloud or in Moodle the play button displays on every slide. This doesn't happen when i view the project locally.
Does anyone know how to stop this? I can't use auto play as this is not compatible with html5 output.

Audio slideshow plays only first slide

I am trying to build a musical slideshow from scratch. I created the slides as jpeg files (6 files, 56 to 80 KB each) and an aiff audio file (27 seconds, 4.6 MB). I follow the QT help instructions - slides in a folder, File > Open Image Sequence in QT, select first to make a slideshow. Then new player, open audio file, copy and paste; then paste slideshow by Edit > Add to Selection and Scale.
The resulting QT movie appears fine, plays and shows all slides just as I wish. But when I save it, quit QT, then double-click on saved file icon, the audio all plays but ONLY THE FIRST SLIDE is shown.
Any suggestions?
