Skin smoothing not working

I can't get the skin smoothing application to work.
Any help would be appreciated.

We need some more information in order to help you.
What version number of Aperture and of your operation system?
How are you "doing" skin smoothing? What do you expect to happen? How is this different from what does happen? How are verifying that it is isn't working correctly?
Has it ever worked in the past?
Can you post a screen-shot illustration any of the above?
Do you have any other trouble with Aperture? With any other programs?
Do other Aperture Quick Brushes work?
Have you tried any troouble-shooting? Have you re-started Aperture? Have your re-started your system?
Post back with this information and I'm sure some of the many helpful people here will provide some direction and tips.

Skin smoothing stopped working and color overlay

Hi All,
Been tearing my hair out.
The skin smoothing tool has stopped working completely across all projects. If I select "color overlay" in the gears menu, sometimes the existing smooth brush strokes appear in red,.. but mostly they don't.
** I can't add any new brush strokes ** they simply do not appear. Interestingly, if you select brush strokes you can see the strokes but the actual skin smooth filter isn't applied to the mask! WEIRD! You can also select invert and the filter is applied to the whole image - but you cannot manipulate the mask at all.
I've reinstalled Aperture and I've also rebuilt the library but nothing seems to work.
Background: I'm running Aperture 3.4.3 on Macbook Retina with latest OS, 16Gb/500SSD - nothing else and I'm shooting with a Nikon D800 in RAW.
Does anyone have any ideas on how to fix this? I have a sweaty model that needs airbrushing ASAP!

Matthew, does it work, if you use a different Aperture library? Then repair your Aperture library.
If it does not even work for a different Aperture library,try working from a different user account. Can you use the brushes there? If yes, remove your Aperture User Preferences from your User Library:
The user library is hidden. To reveal it, use the Finder's "Go" menu.
Click somewhere on your empty Desktop to bring the Finder forward, then you'll see "Go" in the Finder's main menu bar.
Then hold down the options key ⌥ until "library" appears in the drop down menu. Click Library to open. Remove the file
your Home Folder/Library/Preferences/com.apple.Aperture.plist.

Flash video with cuepoints and skin does not work

Hi guys, i created a SWF file based on the template available
here

Basically the movie has navigation buttons on the left side
of the video display to enable users to jump to predefined sections
(topics) within the video. It also has the video controls under the
video.
I imported my video as well as the sample provided in the
webpage above and the clip does not work in Presenter. I can see
the skin but the buttons flash and we cannot see the video. I'm not
a Flash or Presenter expert. Just wondering if anyone can help
troubleshoot this. We would really like to embed a swf with
navigation buttons into Presenter. is this possible? ideas
appreciated.

I'm sure someone will post a workaround for you (there are about 4 or 5 different workarounds people have posted at various times). But I wanted to thank you for your post. My experience as a very recent PC to Mac convert has been frustrating, mostly due to Keynote. When I first started using Keynote I was amazed at what it could do. I spent a lot of time working on a project (several days) only to spend another several days trying to figure out why it wouldn't Export. I finally logged onto the forums and see that people have been posting about this problem for MONTHS. It's been very frustrating to say the least and is a major flaw.
Your note is the first indication I received that Apple is truly working on this issue. I feel for people who posted months ago waiting for an update every day. Like them, I sent a support email (not answered).Your note shows both hope and progress. Apple could really convert a lot of people if it got software like Keynote to work correctly. I'm still blown away by its power. But it's like owning a Ferrari with now wheels. It has a lot of power, but there's nothing you can do with it until you get wheels.

Skin counter not working

I am trying to modify one of the Adobe provided flv skins, but when I do the counter is disabled. Even if I just copy the fla and export the swf skin, without making any modifications, the counter is disabled. Do I need to add code to make it work?

Skin Menu not working

I'm using Captivate 3 and daisy-chaining programs together.
Menu Builder is not an option at the moment so I've created a Menu
using the Project|Skin options. I browsed to find the .cp program
but when the programs are published, the menu doesn't work even
though the daisy-chaining does work. I've read that Captivate is
smart enough to find the published program, even though I'm
pointing to the source program. I'm publishing both the SWF and the
EXE formats. I've searched the forums and can't find any solution
to getting the Skin menu links to function--with a daisy-chained
program. NOTE: The reason I'm daisy-chaining is because I tried to
create the program all in one file and I'm having huge issues
getting the program to load (about 2 minutes to start from a
CD)--so this is what I'm trying for a solution. Help!

I'm noticing that when the menu link is clicked (on the EXE
program) it's looking for an .htm file--which is not created when
publishing an EXE file or at least I'm not seeing that option.
Hopefully that doesn't mean you can only create links for SWF
publishes...

Skin Customization not working in OBIEE 11.1.1.5.0

Hi,
I followed the Oracle white paper (http://www.oracle.com/technetwork/middleware/bi/customizing-oracle-biee-11g-176387.pdf) & defined the custom skin and stylesheet in analyticsRes folder. I also defined the CustomerResourcePhysicalPath,DefaultSkin and DefaultStyle tag in instanceconfig.xml.
When I restart the services, it works fine and I am able to see the custom skin. When I do a "view page source", I can see that it's referring to analyticsRes folder. But after couple of hours it again reverts back to original skin (sk_blafp). When I restart the services then it works fine. But it again reverts back to original after couple of hours.
I am not sure if I am missing something.

Are you in a single environment or a clustered one. If you are on a clustered environment, the folder needs to be setup on both servers.

Smoothing not working

Hi, In flash and illustrator my paint strokes are smoothed out very noticeably which I really like. In photoshop with smoothing on I cannot notice any difference at all, the lines look jagged I tried on and off next two lines next to each other and they both look the same. Doe smoothing work differently in photoshop? I trashed prefs but that made no diff.
I have 16GB i7 Macbook pro and latest photoshop.

The brush smoothing function in Photoshop is extremely subtle compared to the smoothing in Illustrator or Flash. Aside from its apparent magnitude, I believe it is fundamentally different. In Illustrator the smoothing is applied to the path, which then gets stroked. In Photoshop the smoothing appears to be applied to pixels as in a filter operation (say median, gaussian blur, or box , as examples). This is even true if you have a path in Photoshop which you stroke with a brush having its smoothing checked ON.

There are many who use Photoshop for illustrating, but Illustrator in most cases is best for that activity - not suprisingly. I suppose it depends in part on what type of art you are creating. Even in Illustrator some do not like any brush smoothing becasue you basically have to anticiapte how the software is going to modify the path you have actually drawn and hope you wind up with what you want. People get use to using it both ways.

Skin Setting not working with XML file

I am trying to use the Adobe Flash Playback with a flashvars skin setting. I am pointing this setting to an xml file where I am trying to overide the playButtonOverlay image. Below is my code. I am using MVC, so you will see a couple Html Helpers. The helpers are working just fine. It is only the skin setting I can't seem to get to work. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks, Michael.

Thank you both for replying so quickly. I still don't seem be having too much luck. The first thing I did was watched fiddler, and it did show an error with crossdomain.xml. So I added the below elements to a crossdomain.xml file in my root folder. I also changed all my paths to be absolute for both the skin flashvar and xml, but still no luck.

Since I am having trouble with the xml, I decided to try and just put the skin element into the html page where the flash player is located. I then removed the flashvar skin element out of the player. Below is my code for the skin element and flashplayer with absolute paths. The player still seems to use the default overlay play button. Any other suggestions would help out greatly.

Wine font smoothing not working

Yeah, so I'm trying to do the classic font smoothing operation (or whatever you wanna call it) with Wine but it seems I'm just unable.
Here's how it should be done - no matter what I just can't get to work anymore (used to work some months ago with older wine): https://bbs.archlinux.org/viewtopic.php?id=62334
I've also tried moving the configuration folder (.wine) out of the way - but no luck.
Does it work with anybody else? Using (wine) 1.1.38 here - didn't work with 1.1.37 either.

Yakuake skin transparency not working properly

Hi.
I have a problem with yakuake skins. The tabs' part isn't transparent (the rest - console background and lower part of skin - are).
I used to use Kubuntu and this wasn't an issue there.
Any ideas?
Check bellow how the menu entries are hidden behind the upper part of the skin while they are visible behind the lower part:
PS. I have the latest KDE, Qt and Nvidia binary drivers.

No skin works and the test mentioned above didn't work either.
I also tried resetting the yakuake config (removed ~/.kde4/share/config/yakuakerc and ~/.kde4/share/apps/yakuake) but the problem persisted even with the default configuration.
Anyone else with an nvidia card + binary drivers to say whether it works for them?

Soften Skin/Dodge not working anymore

Hi all
have been using LR4 for past month with no probs, however, today the preset brushes i use a lot arent working properly.
Dodge and soften skin are my main ones i use but they are making NO impact at all on the photos i use them on, im doing nothing different! please help!

Make certain your Flow and Density are set to a reasonable level. Too low and the effects aren't apparent.

Font smoothing not working

I am using OS X Yosemite. Back in earlier versions of OS X, there was an option that would set the minimum font smoothing size. Fonts at a lower size than this in most applications would appear jagged. I set this to the highest value (9-12 px or something). After upgrading, the option for this was lost, and all the apps that this affected have jagged text that looks very annoying. This is especially true in Wolfram Mathematica:
Is there any way to fix this (i.e., lowering the font smoothing minimum font size) and get rid of this issue?

Skinning components not working in CS3

Ok well I know that you can drag a component on to the stage
and double click it to add a new skin. I think I may have a setting
wrong somewhere because no matter what I do I can't re-skin any of
the components. Do I need to set the publish prefs to anything
special to do this?

IPod touch 3G displays white skin not working after update iOS 4

During update ios 5 my iPod touch displays white blank skin and not working at all. How can I solve this problem.

Try:
- iOS: Not responding or does not turn on
- Also try DFU mode after try recovery mode
How to put iPod touch / iPhone into DFU mode « Karthik's scribblings
- If not successful and you can't fully turn the iOS device fully off, let the battery fully drain. After charging for an least an hour try the above again.
- If still not successful that usually indicates a hardware problem and an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store is in order.

Skin Smoothing:How does it work?.

I am trying to use skin smoothing for the first time. After following the simple instructions in the Aperture help menu absolutely nothing happened. I am assuming you use it the same way as the retouch brush (which still works fine), that is, either left-clicking the cursor over a spot blemish or dragging the cursor over a line blemish.
When I select the skin smoothing brush and try this I get nothing happening.
In the Skin Smoothing HUD I also tried "apply. to entire photo" , this worked fine but was too strong an effect (the whole photo looked blurred).
Obviously I'm doing something wrong with the SS brush but I can't work out what.

I sweep the brush over the area rather than clicking it on a spot -- though I have a tablet, if you have a mouse you'd hold the left button while sweeping the area.
Select a good image to test this -- a portrait or, even better, a full-frame head shot. The image should be sharp enough that you can clearly see skin detail (e.g. if zoomed to full size you should easily be able to see skin pores.) If focus isn't sharp then you may not notice much of an effect.
When you activate this mode, a HUD should appear with some settings. In the upper-left corner of the HUD are the familiar brush, feather, and eraser icons. Make sure the brush is selected (otherwise it would explain why you don't see any effect.) To make the adjustment obvious, set the strength slider to max (1). There's a gear-icon in the upper-right corner of the HUD. Click that to expose a additional options. Make sure the brush range is set to 'All' (just in case the range of the area you test is outside the range you want to be sure it adjust anyway.)
Hold the left-mouse button while sweeping it across an area of skin where you can see visible texture (usually skin pores) and you should notice these diminish (with the strength cranked up to max they'll probably completely disappear. In practice you'd want to avoid turning the skin of your models into something that resembles the plastic texture of a Barbie Doll.)
The change should be obvious.
If you click the gear-icon again and select the 'color overlay' option it should look like you took a can of red spray-paint to the image to make it completely obvious where you've retouched.
