Skip, Skip, Skippin Ipod!

So, I've had my iPod classic for maybe... 4 or 5 years. So I realize there ARE gonna be some problems with it now that it's a little bit older and I don't have anymore I insurance on it. =/ My problem is, since year 3 or 4, now it wants to start skipping songs. Downloading new itunes music was fine maybe 2 years ago. Now it seems that every purchased song-mind you old AND new-wanna start skipping. It could have something to do with my computer, but I've never had this problem before.
What's going is it will play a purchased song, and stop and then repeat the song over or go to the next one (depending on if I have repeat on) and it does that all the TIME. So I figured out how to fix the song problems and that was to create the AAC version for the song and delete the original one out of my iTunes. Worked like a charm. But NOW, it's doing this pause and repeat thing to my movies! I just recently got the Transformers 2 (Which I LOVE) and it paused and repeated on 2 different times. Twice I had to speed past those parts and the rest of the movie played well up to the end. I tried to do the AAC version thing but it won't let me for security reasons. It plays fine in iTunes but it won't play without skipping on my iPod. Someone tell me how to fix this thing before I strangle the electricity outta my iPod!

  • Help: songs skip on my iPod touch 2

First, I'm sure it's just the problem of the iPod touch, not the audio files, because they all play normally not only on the iTunes software, but also on my iPod nano 3 as well.
    So here's the exact problem:
For all my audio files compressed by Nero AAC codec, the last few seconds, bar none, will be skipped when played on my iPod touch 2.
However, there seems to be a fixed pattern for such skipping: if the song's length is 1 minute, the last 1 second will be skipped; if it's a 2-minute-long song, then the last 2 seconds will be skipped, then you can do the math yourself.
I'm not sure about the exact seconds, but that's the way it works.
Since most songs will leave a few seconds of "space" in the end, such skips are usually harmless. But for a continuouse work that's divided into several tracks, or some concert work that weighs as much as 20~30 minutes (which means the last 20~30 seconds will be omitted), your enjoyment can be severely impaired.
Here's something else worth mentioning: all the mp3 files compressed by lame or iTunes, and AAC songs bought from iTunes Store have no such problem on my iPod touch, which only affects AAC files encoded by Nero AAC codec, CBR & VBR alike.
My iPod touch's software version is 2.2.1 (they don't fix the problem since 2.1, when I bought the iPod)
Is there a way to fix the problem, or at least, will somebody tell me that I'm not alone on this?
    Thank you!

Have you tried converting them using iTunes itself? If you want to keep them as AAC files, first, open iTunes Preferences and then open Import Options. Select AAC from the drop down menu and select OK. Then, select the tracks you want to convert, right click and select "convert to AAC". Once they've converted, delete the original files then sync the new tracks to your iPod. If the skipping continues, maybe do what I said above but convert them to MP3 instead.
Hopefully it's just an encoding issue, and that re-encoding will solve it.

  • Skipping problem with ipod

I have another problem with my 30G ipod video. It skips certain songs, not entirely, but partway through. For instance, there is a song that it will play for 15 sec, and then skip to the next one. It is always the same songs and it skips at the same point in the song. However, if I scan through the song it will allow me to scan past the point where it would usually skip, and then play the rest of the song fine. There are at least two or three that it does this with, but there are undoubtedly more because I have not listened to nearly all the songs on it yet (I just uploaded them).
I have tried a few things, including restoring the ipod, deleting and reloading the problem songs, and resetting the ipod. The songs in question play with no problem in itunes.
    Any ideas?
    Thanks.

Is the software on your iPod up to date?

  • 5G iPod skipping songs after iPod Update 1.1

After I updated my 5G 60 Gig video iPod to Update 1.1, my iPod started to skip certain songs. I have tried erasing the songs, importing them again from the CD, and reloading them back to the iPod and the iPod still won't play those SPECIFIC songs! Never had this problem before the update.
Btw, if I restore my iPod will I have to reload all the songs/files again?
    Thank you for your help!

Ok... This is so strange. If I import those skipped/unplayable songs from the CDs again using a different encoder (MP3 instead of AAC), the resulting songs would play fine on the iPod. Again, never had this problem before Update 1.1.

  • TS3217 This song skipping bug on iPods has been around for years!  Is there any solution yet?

I've tried resetting my iPods.  (I've got 3 Classics, 2-80gb, 1-160gb)  I've tried 256kbps, 190kbps, and 128kbps compression rates.  All using AAC, all synced with a Mac Mini with Mountain Lion and the latest software for iTunes and the iPods.  It doesn't seem to matter what I try, all three of the iPods have the issue- they'll be playing fine, then they randomly stop prior to the end of a song, and skip to the next one.  The original songs are fine on the computer.  I've tried syncing with a different computer that has a different backup drive storing the song.  It still happens.  I've deleted songs, downloaded them from iCloud, and it still happens.  Is it just the iPod Classics, or does this happen on solid state iPods as well?  Is there any sign of a fix?  I've got over 12000 songs, and I'm kind of committed to this format, since Apple has pretty much killed all the portable music player competition.

I've been told by Verizon business team that Sumsung and Verizon are working on a fix. Of course, that could be one month or 12 months.
My wife and I have a Samsung S3 and Note II and both, on Jelly Bean have the same flaw. It's very frustrating. I carry with me an unlocked HTC and also Verizon Incredible 2. Since SIM Data plans are cheap enough in most countries, I just get additional SIM cards with a data plan and turn on the hotspot feature of these devices with I access from the S3 and NOTE II. Not ideal, but close enough for now.
In the UK, I am hoping the LTE capabilities will work (VodaFone UK is imminent).

  • Garbled (skipping) songs on iPod and iTunes back again after upgrade

I orginally posted about this back in September. Some of my songs all of a sudden became garbled or were skipping on both my iPod and in iTunes. The CD's don't skip. At that time a new version on iTunes was available and some iPod genious in this forum asked me to upgrade. Once I upgraded to the latest version it fixed the problem. All my songs went back to normal. BUT SINCE THEN, a new version on iTunes came out again. When I upgarded, the garbled songs and skipping came back. I'm figuring that this is an iTunes problem since upgrading to new versions made the problem go away and come back.
Has anyone found a solution to this? Can someone help me?

I'm having problems with mine as well. Mine studders through songs every so often. I haven't found an answer to that yet.

  • Skipping song on iPod

I have recently "Restored" my iPod, converting it from a "Windows" to "Machintosh" format. All songs have been sync'd correctly.
However on a large number of songs, the iPod plays about 30 seconds of the songs, and skips to the next. All songs play correctly on iTunes.
Can anyone help? I have iTunes 7.1.1 and the 1.2.1 on the iPod.

do you mean the song you purchased from iTunes stores
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=93035
    Otherwise, please do the following
    For Mac computer
    1. Open the disk utility, hope your iPod appears there (left hand side), highlight it
    2. Go to Tab “Partition”, click either “Delete” or “Partition”, if fails, skip this step and go to 3
    3. Go to Tab “Erase” , choose Volume Format as “MAC OS Extended (Journaled), and click Erase, again if fails, skip it and go to 4
    4. Same as step 3, but open the “Security Options....” and choose “Zero Out Data” before click Erase. It will take 1 to 2 hours to complete.
    5. Eject your iPod and do a Reset
    6. Open the iTunes 7 and click “Restore”
    For Window computer
    Go to folder “My Computer”
Hope you can see your iPod there and right click on the iPod
Choose “Format”. Ensure the settings are at “Default” and that “Quick Format” is not checked
    Now select “Format”
Eject your iPod and do a Reset
Open the iTunes 7 and click “Restore”

  • Songs are skipping on new ipod

I just bought a new ipod shuffle and all of my songs are skipping and breaking up. Some songs are bought from itunes and some are from CD's. Please help!!!!

Ok, I converted all the music in my itunes library to ACC format, then re-synced to ipod. I am still having the same problem with some songs. These cds/music were previously on my computer that had been imported through either real player or windows media player a while back, prior to having itunes.
I have heard that the cds need to be imported through itunes in ACC format. If you don't have the original cds anymore, you can re-burn them to a cd and then import again in itunes. Apparently it can't be music that has been previously put on your computer through real player, etc.
I haven't had time to try this yet so I'm not sure if it works. I will let you know!

  • Purchased songs skipping over on ipod

i recently downloaded the newest version of itunes (7.7) and after i connected my ipod to itunes, i noticed that all the songs i had purchased from the itunes would skip over on my ipod. the song title, artist name and even album artwork would show up for a second, and then skip to the next song. my ipod software is up to date and i even tried recreating my itunes, restoring my ipod to factory settings. nothing ive done seems to help. anybody know what else i can do to fix it?

Start iTunes and go to the Store menu on top and Deauthorize your computer. Now play one of the songs that aren't working (the purchased ones) and when prompted enter your Apple ID and password. Now Resync the songs to your iPod.

  • HT1550 Skipped Songs on iPod Touch

I downloaded a purchased album to my computer and to my ipod separately.  Now, some of the files on my ipod are duplicates. One link will play the music file and the other won't. How do I remove the link with no file attached?

Your best option is to delete the songs from both Itunes and your IPT and then re - Rip the music from your CD's and put it back on.
You may want to try and use a different USB port than you usually do I would suggest the one in the back of your computer that is attached to the motherboard rather than one that's in front of the case.
The reason this happens is the USB port your using is corrupting the data going to the IPT and thus you get the skipping songs or videos. If this keeps happening even after trying what I suggested then you may want to consider buying a USB 2.0 PCI card and installing it into your system. ( I know this all seems a bit extreme but this seems to be the only fix that is available at the moment) SORRY!!

  • Audio Skipping While Using iPod + Mail Application on iPhone 3G

Hey there folks. I'm experiencing Audio skipping and popping while using both the iPod and the Mail application at same time. Typing is also very slow in Mail application while iPod is playing music. Have installed the 2.01 update, didn't try to do this before, so not sure if this is normal behaviour. Even if normal, this should not be so. Any thoughts?
    Thanks, Ian

I'm getting a lot of problems with the iPhone slowing down whilst I'm typing.
I haven't played a lot but I think it's just not coping with iPod features whilst it's trying to do all the other cool stuff.
I rarely have a problem with it when not using the iPod function.
But it's not supposed to be like this I expect. Seems like some software is not being polite with CPU sharing

  • Purchased music skips on my ipod but not on the pc.

The music that I buy on itunes works fine on my computer, but when transfered to my ipod- it skips through the songs that i have purchased. I dont know how to fix this, help is greatly appreciated.

How to use your iPod to move your music to a new computer

  • Why do some songs skip on my iPod?

I have only noticed that one CD of music is doing this. There are about ten songs on this CD, which is loaded into my iTunes, then on to my iPod Classic (160GB). All songs play fine on my computer thruogh iTunes. However, only two of the ten play on my iPod, the rest are skipped over when played in sequence or shuffled. I have completely wipped it off the iPod and computer, loaded other songs, then reloaded this CD's music. The same thing happens, with the same songs. I have checked the menu under "Get Info" and "Options", which is "skip on shuffle". It is not checked. This is crazy, Help me please!

    Troubleshooting songs that skip
    Try:
    - Reset the iOS device. Nothing will be lost
Reset iOS device: Hold down the On/Off button and the Home button at the same time for at
least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.
    - Unsync all music and resync
    - Reset all settings
Go to Settings > General > Reset and tap Reset All Settings.
All your preferences and settings are reset. Information (such as contacts and calendars) and media (such as songs and videos) aren’t affected.
    - Restore from backup. See:
    iOS: How to back up
    - Restore to factory settings/new iOS device.
    If necessary
You can redownload most iTunes purchases by:

  • Skipping Problem and Ipod acting Strange

I brought an Ipod Video 30GB in march 2006
Recently it has started having the following problems
*it started freezing up in the middle of playing.
*It has also stopped loading tracks. It'll bring up the screen for the next track, sit there for a couple seconds with the track on 0:00 and then go on to the next track (without playing it either, on and on).
*The drive emits strange whirring sounds like a Hard disk being struck or like a CD drive trying to read a faulty CD but of course on a smaller scale
*sometimes when i try to switch it on it freezes with the apple icon
*it gets struck in the middle of a song and keeps continously replaying the little bit over and over again
I've been restarting it four or five times a day at work, mostly for the freezes. After a restart, it's good for an hour or two, then POW.
I have tried every trick in the book, like updating, resetting, formatting and restoring
I tried taking it to the apple service centre and they claim there is nothing wrong.
Now what am i to do???
Should i sell it off and buy a new one or can this problem be solved??

If you bought the ipod new in march, it should still have its warrenty, so it shouldn't cost anything to fix, just have to pay 29 US dollars for shipping and handeling, soory don't know how much it is in india
Just goto the repair site below and find all the info you need http://www.apple.com/support/ipod/service/faq/

  • Skip skip skipperoo!

when i start some (not all) albums on my ipod,it skips each song in turn and then goes back to the menu, i haven't connected it to my pc recently and the songs worked before!
any ideas on whats caused the strange disappearence of my beloved barry manilow collection (just kidding) seeing as the total number of songs hasn't changed???

    Jonathan,
A couple of things. First, does the song play same or perfectly in iTunes? Sometimes the importing process is just screwing because of resource issues or something buggy on your computer. I know this is rare, but of my over 3000 songs, I had one song do this. When I delete it and reimported it, it was fine. On one song the quality was bad on the CD. I confirmed this after playing the music on my CD player (3 of them in fact). This may not be issue and the reset that was mentioned my work. I hope so.
Secondly, did you accidently clear the album from iTunes and then have sync to your iPod set to automatically? If so, then your iPod will delete it when synced. I used to do this (still at times) a lot when clearing the checks off of songs. I accidentally chose clear and not Uncheck Selection.
I hope this helps and best of luck with your iPod!
