Skipping and returning to questions in Captivate 5

Hi folks,
Is there any way, in Captivate 5, to allow users to skip quiz questions, but automatically return to skipped questions at the end of the quiz, before the results page comes up?
I need to include a required quiz in a module, but let the users skip questions and come back to them later. I know that checking "Allow Backward Movement" allows the user to go back and answer skipped questions. But I'm trying to see if there's a way to get Captivate to automatically do this, rather than require the user to remember how many and which questions they skipped, and to have to go back to them.

You could probably do this with Advanced Actions, trying to track the questions that have or have not been answered. But it would be somewhat complex.
I don't know of any simple way to do it in Cp.

What is different between exporting and returning value in method of a class. if created an object inside the method and exporting it, it means I have a reference to that object inside program. If I use returning value, it means I have a copy of object created inside the method, but the object inside method is destroyed after it ends. Do I understand correctly? if so what do u prefer exporting or returning value? thanks!

The major difference is that you can have multiple EXPORTING parameters yet only a single RETURNING parameter. In addition, if you have a RETURNING parameter you cannot have EXPORTING parameters simultaneously.
Defining methods with a single RETURNING parameter is more Java-like than having multiple EXPORTING parameters.
Whenever possible and sensible I prefer RETURNING parameters over EXPORTING parameters because they allow to use the function method call, e.g.:
go_msglist = cf_reca_messagelist_create( ).

Remediate to content slide; return to question; then continue on - using Captivate 8

Using Captivate 8, I’m trying to remediate from a Knowledge Check question slide back to a content slide, then back to the KC question to try again, and then continue on from there. On my first instance, this works fine. However, the problems began on the second instance and continue on each instance thereafter. The settings on the KC question slides are all the same with the exception of which slide each jumps to for remediation. I don't understand why it works the first time, but doesn’t work after that. On the second instance the question jumps back to the content slide, but then skips any subsequent slides.   Anyone had a similar experience? Know of a workaround or what I might be doing wrong?
FYI, I'm using he E-Learning Uncovered Adobe Captivate 8 book by Elkins, Pinder, and Slade as a reference, and it clearly describes how to do this on page 183, "Remediation back to Content Slides - If students get a question wrong, you can branch back to one or several slides where the content was taught and then return them back to the quiz to retry the question. To add remediation branching: 1) in the last attempt field on the question, set a Jump to Slide action to the first slide with the content. 2) On the last slide with the content, add a return to Quiz action on the slide's next button. On the content slide, the Next button with the Return to Quiz action executes a Continue action under normal circumstances, but returns students to the quiz if that's where they came from."

I've tried contacting Adobe, too, but with no clear resolution yet.  One suggestion they gave me was to put the slide you are remediating back to right before the question slide. However, if you can only remediate back to the slide immediately before the question slide, that limits this functionality severely. My solution has been to remediate to a duplicate, but separate content slide using buttons rather than quiz logic. Cumbersome, but it works.

I find Adobe Captivate to be pretty buggy and it's put me way behind in delivering a product to my client. I'm very frustrated. From the Safari Menu Bar click Safari/Preferences then select the Appearance tab. Tick the box next to: Display images when the page opens.
If that box is already ticked, from the Safari Menu Bar, click Safari / Empty Cache. When you are done with that...

If you still have problems, go to the Safari Menu Bar, click Safari/Preferences. Make note of all the preferences under each tab. Quit Safari. Now go to ~/Library/Preferences and move this file com.apple.safari.plist to the Desktop. Relaunch Safari. If it's a successful launch, then that .plist file needs to be moved to the Trash.

I am trying to figure out a way to allow a student to stop in the middle of a course that includes some short quiz questions, and return to their last location at a later date. Maybe I can use something like a "post results" in the middle of the course, but I would need to know what system variables to post.
Is it possible to add a "POST RESULTS" button on any slide, but disguise it as an "EXIT" the course button?

The LMS I am using involves my own design using WAMP, and modifying Adobe's internal server reporting and reading PHP files to interface with my MySql database. I also designed my PHP student Web pages for them to use when logging into my web-portal. I have Adobe Air installed on my Web site server. I have all the SCORM and EMCA reference guides to help get the big and small picture of what the standard LMS should look like, eventhough this Military project I am working on is not connecting to the WWW, and is currently only connected to 10 Machines. Starting small for now and eventually may turn into an intranet web portal someday for the rest of the local Military users.
Getting back to the cookies. It sounds like the I need to create cookies on my user client machines so that when the user returns, the bookmarking gets them back to their last visited location. This is the self contained approach.
In my case, each client machine may have different user at different times or days. Saving cookies on each machine would require an array of data for each user that uses the machine when they exited. SInce I am also capturing interaction data, it gets more complicated. When the student eventually reaches the end of the course, all the interaction data that goes with each student must be retreived and included with the last slide "POST RESULT" button.
This means the interaction data must be incrementally stored to my database as the self-paced student goes through the course slide by slide. An exit button or some form of EXIT routine must be created that triggers a routine that passes the current interaction data through an server external PHP file that parses the information to my database. This would avoid the need for the last Quiz slide and the last "POST RESULT" button.
I can probably do most of this using AS3 URLRequest and URLLoader, but I am wondering if I can use whatever Captivate currently uses for the "POST RESULT" button?
My LMS is a small subset of the products I've seen sold by some online vendors. This is a small project that can easily grow into a large project if I want it to. I just want to start out small for now and I don't want to waste my time "reinventing the wheel" if Captivate already provides an easy way to do this.
So far, from the responses I am getting, it looks like I have to write my own client to server interface from Captivate to MySQL.

HELP: I need to link a PDF within PDF and be able to open and return to original PDF

I have a master PDF and have attached 7 supplemental PDF documents. I created "click here" icons and used the steps below so that the linked document would open. The problem is, once I open the supplemental PDF, it closes the original master. I would like to close the linked document and return to the master view. Is there a way to do this?
Or is there a way to do this from InDesign? I created master file in InDesign and exported as an Interactive PDF. I created the buttons and linked them to external files. This works great as long as the master PDF and the links are all in one file, but that is a pain to send to a viewer. Ideally, I want to be able to send the master PDF to a viewer and not have to send a links folder. Is there a way to embed the supplemental PDFs into the master so that they are all combined into one file AND have the ability to use buttons to call up one of the attachments, close, and return to the original?

I want to do the same thing that the original poster of this question wants to do. I haven't worked extensively with Acrobat so am finding by trial and error the several ways PDFs within PDFs can be accomplished. I'm using a trial version of Acrobat Pro X and have experimented with three options.
1 - I've created a Portfolio and am impressed with what that can do, though I think it may be "overkill" for the current size of my project.
2 - I've also tried creating this project as an index but discovered that the links I'd created in the original docs didn't work when I moved the index and its contents (keeping the file structure the same). I presume this means the links are absolute? I also don't understand how it is that users search a .pdx file, or how to present what I want to be the original opening PDF of indexed docs.
3 - I've also thought to create one PDF with attached PDFs, so I'd like to have you expand on your comment about creating a master document and attaching documents to it.
The specifics of my project are these: I have created a master directory that contains approximately 120 links. Most of the links are repeated three times (users can find in the directory the item they need in three different ways: alphabetically, by application, or by module; hence each item listed once in each of three categories). I want to make that directory the "master" PDF that users open first, and then locate within that PDF the 5-8 PDF documents that contain all of the places to which the directory links. I want the "master" directory to be self-contained and completely "portable" as far as all of the documents and links are concerned so that when I make the PDF available from our website users can open the master from there or copy it and have all of the docs they need with all of the links intact. I think I prefer that all docs open in new windows, since returning to the original doesn't seem very user friendly in Acrobat (I like the tabs feature in FoxIt when multiple PDFs are open...).
I'd like an opinion about the best way to accomplish what I need to do, and am also wondering whether there are other options I am unaware of. BTW, the reason we've decided to document this whole project in PDFs rather than HTML is because this project contains a big number of tables, which do not look consistent across various browsers (i.e., most of our tables look fine in IE and Firefox, but awful in Google Chrome...). In researching my issue on the Acrobat Windows forum I see that rendering tables in Acrobat is also an issue that seems to be unresolved.

Call RFC Function Module and return 1000 records at a time

I would like to call a Remote Enabled Function Module from a non SAP system. This function module will select data from the database and return it to the calling program.
Suppose there are 100,000 records that need to be returned, but the calling module would like the data in chunks of 1000 records. Therefore the calling program would call the FM 100 times.
How do I code the function module to know on each subsequent call to grab the next chunk of 1000 records?

Here is how you can go for this issue:
1. Create one RFC function module with following parameter. These parameters are with respective of chunking logic.
     Import: Package Size
     Export: Total number of records
     Changing: chunk count
Implement following logic:
1. First of you need to know how many chunks you need to fetch for that get the count of total number of records. This is one
    time activity so you better maintain one flag import parameter will be set to 'X' only first call.
2. Get the number of chunk using total number of records / chunk size for e.g. 1000 / 100 so chunk count = 10.
3. Define internal chunk counter in function module which will be used to locate the correct chunk depending on the chunk
    counter value sent from calling program.
4. Send first call with package size 100 and chunk count = 1, execute select statement and increment internal
    chunk count check if chunk count = internal chunk count in current case chunk count = 1 so exit select statement and return
    with first chunk.
5. Send second call with package size 100 and chunk count = 2. Execute select statement and check chunk count with internal
    chunk counter, in current case it will be 1 so skip that data and go for next chunk of 100 records increment internal chunk
    counter. In this case it will match with external chunk count = 2. load output table with that data and return to calling program.
6. Repeat step 4 until you reach last chunk.
You need to use SELECT...ENDSELECT with PACKAGE SIZE addition so for every loop it will return number of records mentioned in package size.

About three weeks ago I got the blackberry classic. After ten days of using the device I decided it wasn't for me and returned it within the 14 day return period and went ahead and got the Note Edge after paying the $35 restocking fee. I'm not completely sold on this phone just yet, but I recall the rep saying, "that once I switch the Blackberry for the Note, that I wouldn't be able to exchange the Note for something else, even if I pay another restocking fee." How to call an alv report from another program and return back

I am calling one abap program (Prgm B) from another program (Prgrm A).
Here, Prgm B is an ALV report. I have fetch some data from Prgem B that gets stored in an internal table.
Now, I am using below code in Prgrm A,
SUBMIT Prgrm B VIA SELECTION-SCREEN
                      WITH SELECTION-TABLE rspar
                      EXPORTING LIST TO MEMORY
                      AND RETURN.
When Prgrm A executed, it lead me to selection screen of Prgrm B and when I click F8, it shows me the report output, In short, it doesnt return back to Prgrm A. It ends up showing me the alv report if Prgrm B even afetr using RETURN statement.
I want to get back to Prgrm A by fetching some data from Prgrm B.
Please let me know, if i am missing something.

How do I change the color of the matching letter in a matching quiz question in Captivate 8?

The default dropdown box has white text with a white background. The text for the questions and answers is black. That doesn't change the dropdown letter to black, though. I've tried changing the default styles, and it only changes the main text, not the letters in the dropdown box. An old post for captivate 5.5 mentions changing the text color to differ from the dropdown answer color, but I want the reverse--the dropdown letter color to match the rest of the text. Actually, I'd take any color that would show up on the default white background for the box.
Please, any answers in layperson terms. I don't know code and am refamiliarizing myself with Captivate after a few years away from it.

I probably should add that it is only on publish that the text color changes to white. When I'm working in the Captivate program, the dropdown text appears black.

The position of the character within the file is displayed in the indicator(s).

Moving average price and returns to vendor

Hello gurus,
Ive got a question concerning material valuation and returns to vendor.
E.g. we have got 200 pieces of a material with a moving average price of 2 $ each.
Now, what happens if I return 100 of those to my vendor who pays 2.10$ each for them?
In my view, there are several possibilities:
- Nothing happens, the moving average price is not changed at all, value of the goods is 200$ afterwards.
- New value of the goods is 400$ - (100 * 2.10$) = 190 $. This would mean that the moving average price is 1.90 $.
- Last delivered price was e.g. 2.20$, more than 100 pieces were delivered, so the new value of the goods is 400$ - (100 * 2.20$) = 180$, new moving average price is 1.80$.
So my question is: What is standard in SAP?

This is what my thought is
When you return the material to vendor then system take the same valuation as your MAP
and when you buy new goods then it will count based on the
e.g. existing stock is 100 and value is 1000 means valuation is 10 a peice
in you but another 100 at 1200 then valuation is 2200/200 = 11
When a material is subject to moving average price control, the system calculates values for goods movements in the following way:
