Skipping song on iPod

I have recently "Restored" my iPod, converting it from a "Windows" to "Machintosh" format. All songs have been sync'd correctly.
However on a large number of songs, the iPod plays about 30 seconds of the songs, and skips to the next. All songs play correctly on iTunes.
Can anyone help? I have iTunes 7.1.1 and the 1.2.1 on the iPod.

do you mean the song you purchased from iTunes stores

Otherwise, please do the following
For Mac computer
1. Open the disk utility, hope your iPod appears there (left hand side), highlight it
2. Go to Tab “Partition”, click either “Delete” or “Partition”, if fails, skip this step and go to 3
3. Go to Tab “Erase” , choose Volume Format as “MAC OS Extended (Journaled), and click Erase, again if fails, skip it and go to 4
4. Same as step 3, but open the “Security Options....” and choose “Zero Out Data” before click Erase. It will take 1 to 2 hours to complete.
5. Eject your iPod and do a Reset
6. Open the iTunes 7 and click “Restore”
For Window computer
Go to folder “My Computer”
Hope you can see your iPod there and right click on the iPod
Choose “Format”. Ensure the settings are at “Default” and that “Quick Format” is not checked
Now select “Format”
Eject your iPod and do a Reset
Open the iTunes 7 and click “Restore”

  • HT1550 Skipped Songs on iPod Touch

I downloaded a purchased album to my computer and to my ipod separately.  Now, some of the files on my ipod are duplicates. One link will play the music file and the other won't. How do I remove the link with no file attached?

Your best option is to delete the songs from both Itunes and your IPT and then re - Rip the music from your CD's and put it back on.
You may want to try and use a different USB port than you usually do I would suggest the one in the back of your computer that is attached to the motherboard rather than one that's in front of the case.
The reason this happens is the USB port your using is corrupting the data going to the IPT and thus you get the skipping songs or videos. If this keeps happening even after trying what I suggested then you may want to consider buying a USB 2.0 PCI card and installing it into your system. ( I know this all seems a bit extreme but this seems to be the only fix that is available at the moment) SORRY!!

  • 5G iPod skipping songs after iPod Update 1.1

After I updated my 5G 60 Gig video iPod to Update 1.1, my iPod started to skip certain songs. I have tried erasing the songs, importing them again from the CD, and reloading them back to the iPod and the iPod still won't play those SPECIFIC songs! Never had this problem before the update.
Btw, if I restore my iPod will I have to reload all the songs/files again?
    Thank you for your help!

Ok... This is so strange. If I import those skipped/unplayable songs from the CDs again using a different encoder (MP3 instead of AAC), the resulting songs would play fine on the iPod. Again, never had this problem before Update 1.1.

  • Garbled (skipping) songs on iPod and iTunes back again after upgrade

I orginally posted about this back in September. Some of my songs all of a sudden became garbled or were skipping on both my iPod and in iTunes. The CD's don't skip. At that time a new version on iTunes was available and some iPod genious in this forum asked me to upgrade. Once I upgraded to the latest version it fixed the problem. All my songs went back to normal. BUT SINCE THEN, a new version on iTunes came out again. When I upgarded, the garbled songs and skipping came back. I'm figuring that this is an iTunes problem since upgrading to new versions made the problem go away and come back.
Has anyone found a solution to this? Can someone help me?

I'm having problems with mine as well. Mine studders through songs every so often. I haven't found an answer to that yet.

  • When i download songs from i tunes to i pod some songs dont play or they skip songs or they make 2 copies of songs  what to do

when i download songs from i tunes library to i pod  some songs dont play or they skip songs  or they make 2 copies of songs  what to do

    *Skipping songs*
The iPod seems to fail to play all of the occasional track that iTunes, and indeed other PMPs, are happy to play. There is probably some minor technical error in the internal structure of the file which is normally ignored by other playback software but causes the Classic to bail out.
You may like to try scanning the files with MP3 Validator which can find & fix some internal MP3 errors.
Some users have also suggested that completely removing all id3 tags and then replacing the information can be a solution. This can be achieved in iTunes by selecting an affected track, right/option clicking and using the option Convert id3 tags > None. Since some files may mistakenly have more than one tag you may need to repeat this action. Once you have confirmed that no tag is present you can replace the tag information using Convert id3 tags > V2.3 (I believe it is recommended to avoid using V2.4).
Personally I have found files for which these solutions don't work. In this case the workaround is either to re-rip the tracks or get iTunes to re-encode the file, e.g. convert AAC to MP3 or vice versa and sync the newly encoded file to the iPod instead. Because transcoding will cause a loss of fidelity you should keep your original file so that if a future iPod firmware resolves this issue you can put your original files back onto the iPod.

  • HELP...iPod nano (first generation) skipping songs, then....frozen

I need some advice. I have a 1st generation nano, (I also use it with the Nike + if that matters), it was skipping songs, and just playing whatever it wanted, so I just restored it, and now it is froze on the screen "language". I have also tried to reset it by holding down the centre and menu button. Diagnostics tells me "iPod connection status" is the problem, now it is not coming up or being recognized by my itunes. I am running all of the current software. Is it time for a new iPod?

  • If your ipod freezes, skips songs, and wont load, read this

ok, i have a 4th gen 40gb ipod which worked fine until i upgraded to itunes 5. now my ipod shows a folder with !, songs skip, and it freezes after 5 songs.disk mode didnt help either, as it didnt show up on my computer even though the ipod displayed do not disconnect. I found a fix for it. it sounds dangerous and crude, but it worked for me, and some other people. plug your ipod into your computer and it will say dont disconnect, and your comp probably will be locked up like normal until ipod loads, then take your ipod, and hit it on its side on a hard surface. do it while you hear the Hard drive spinning. NO JOKE. my ipod started working right after. however, the sound is really crappy now, but i was at least able to backup my files, and i'm going to use my warrenty to get a new one. the reason this works is beacuse somehoew the hd pin is out of place, and you can hear it clicking. hitting it will get it back in place. i know this sounds crazy, but trust me, it will stop skipping songs and freezing, and will appear on your computer. I warn you however, if you break your ipod doing this, dont blame me, i'm just saying this because it worked for me. give it a try if nothing else works. hope this helps. itunes 5 was really bad. anyone know where to get itunes 4.9, that was fine for me, and i had a separate podcasting program anyway.

    Hi Mark,
I tried entering the serial number onto the apple website, but it says my iPod had not been registered (although I have registered it!).
Anyway, I phoned apple support and they told me to go to depot.info.apple.com/ipod and fill in a service request. Unfortunately it said that my iPod is out of warranty, so I had to phone again to get them to update their records about the and they are sending out a service box in the next few days
I think I'm definately going to take out the applecare service now!

  • IPod was skipping songs. So I did a "restore".  Now it won't sync

OK, my iPod was skipping songs. I'd play an album, it would try and play some songs, skip them one at a time. it was probably failing about 30% of the time.
So, I thought I'd try to "Restore" the iPod, and then sync it.
Restore worked great. It wiped out the iPod of all my music. Then when I tried to perform the sync, it gets about 250 songs into it, and then fails. iTunes says that it is still syncing, but it never gets past that point. Continually syncing forever.
I don't know what I can do here (aside of buying a new iPod -- that suggestion is not helpful, btw). Before I had an iPod that played about 2/3 of its songs. Now 95% of my songs are just gone.
Everyone says not to run Disk Utility on the thing, but I'm extremely tempted. But I'm at a total loss here. Any ideas?

Bump for the answer because I also have same case.

Assuming you are in a region where you are allowed to redownload your past music purchases, delete the corrupt tracks from the music section of your iTunes library, close & then reopen iTunes, go to the iTunes Store home page, click the Purchased link from the Quick Links section in the right-hand column, then select Music and Not on this computer. You should find download links for your tracks there.
While downloading select Downloads in the left-hand column and make sure Allow Simultaneous Downloads is unchecked. This seems to help with partial downloads...
If the problem persists, or that facility is not yet available in your region, contact the iTunes Store support staff through the "Report a problem" links in your account history, or via Contact Support.

  • Classic 20gb Ipod - Skipping songs

Recently, my 20 GB iPod classic has started skipping songs randomly. For example, when I try to play a playlist or album, it will skip through the songs one by one until the playlist/album is completed, without actually playing any of the songs. Has anyone had a similar problem and had success in fixing this? Or is my iPod shot and it is time to get a new one? Thanks in advance.

The songs on the ipod are damaged. Tyr restoring it with the latest ipod updater, more on restoring can be found here http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=60983

  • Ipod Skipping Songs

I bought a new 80 GB iPod classic back in January, and I noticed that when I'm listening to it on shuffle, it might get to a song, wait a few seconds and then skip the song. I also tried playing an album on my iPod and it skipped every song. These songs work just fine on iTunes, and the album I played was bought brand new, and has always worked otherwise. Does anyone else have this problem? Should I trade my iPod in for a new one?
    Thanks.

Have you tried encoding at different speeds?
    If not try this:
First off check the original encoding speed. This can be done by selecting the glitched song, right clicking and choosing the "Get Info" option and the bit-rate (encoding speed) will be in the summary tab. After you check the current encoding speed the settings for importing music into iTunes may need to be changed. You can change these by going into the "Edit > Preferences ~ Advanced tab > Importing tab" once here simply change the box labeled "Import Using" from "AAC Encoder" to "MP3 Encoder". Now all that needs to be done is to change the bit-rate. Choose one of the bit-rates from the "Setting" box that is different from the current bit-rate of the skipping song. Once the setting is chosen click "Ok" and then go to the "Advanced" menu and there should be an option to "Convert Selection to MP3". Now it is as simple as selecting the affected song and then going into the advanced menu and choosing the "Convert Selection to MP3" option to fix your glitched tunes! Every song that is converted using this will be encoded with the bit-rate chosen in the earlier stages.
Hopefully this helps, good luck re-encoding =)
