Skipping songs completly

Songs that recently got down loaded from the iTunes Music Store will not play on my new nano. It displays the song title, artist, and album art in the now playing menu starting at 0:00, then it skips over the song before playing and goes to the next song. I have already tried to restart the ipod and reload the songs but this had no effect. The files play fine in iTunes. Any suggestions?

Try:
- Reset the iOS device. Nothing will be lost
Reset iOS device: Hold down the On/Off button and the Home button at the same time for at
least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.
- Unsync all music and resync
- Reset all settings
Go to Settings > General > Reset and tap Reset All Settings.
All your preferences and settings are reset. Information (such as contacts and calendars) and media (such as songs and videos) aren’t affected.
- Restore from backup. See:
iOS: How to back up
- Restore to factory settings/new iOS device.
If still problem, make an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store since it appears you have a hardware problem.

  • My 6 Gen Nano skips songs completely...??? Plays in Itunes

So.. ..My ipod was working fine untill one day.. it decided to only play certain songs...
I can choose a song, and it will completely just skip over it, wont even play for 1 second.
ALL songs play in Itunes. All songs are from CD's
Yet, apple says there is nothing wrong with my ipod.
I've reseted it, restored to factory setting, updated the version... nothing helps
    I WANT MY SONGS

One thing you can try is import using error correction. You would have to delete the songs out of iTunes first.
-Click edit, prefrences, then import settings, put a check in error correction, then click done.
    -Reimport the CD then test.
One good step to try is: sync the album with a different ipod. This will rule out the ipod as the culprit.
    Hope this helps.

  • Songs skip (or completely stop) and other strange glitches

For a little more than a week now, my 2nd generation iPod Touch has had a number of problems.
-Firstly, some songs skip, though it's not your typical skipping like you would hear off a scratched CD. A portion of a song that's probably less than half-a-second will repeat about once or twice and the song would then continue. It is actually much more annoying than it probably sounds. I would not say that the file types of the songs are the problem because I have been able to play one of the skipped songs in its entirety twice without any problems. All the files that have skipped are MP3 and some of them had been converted from WMA.
-Sometimes when a song has skipped, it would just plain stop later on. Sometimes it would return to the main menu or sometimes all the way back to the home screen. I then would go back to the music section and the machine acts as if the song was not playing to begin with. One time I clicked the music button and it brought me to a Playlist that I had not been playing at the very moment the machine stopped. What's up with that
-The time tracking on a song can get completely wonky. You try to skip to one part of the song and it can sometimes sound way late compared to what's going on the little display at the top of the screen or it could have suddenly stopped and the display would say it's still playing. This is a pretty minor problem, however.
-The weirdest occurrence to have happened to the iPod was when a song stopped and the machine returned to the Home screen...but with the song display at the top screen. You could click buttons like Pause and Play but it's all on the home screen and nothing is computing sound wise (no song is playing, by the way). This is probably impossible to imagine in your head and my description is foggy at best but this is the most worrisome of all the flaws with the player and though it only happened once it sounds almost too bizarre to be preventable or repairable.
What I have been doing recently with with iTunes - if this information is any help - is 1) creating tons of Playlists and 2) adding album art from my computer. I would basically save images onto my PC from the internet, regardless of what kind of files they were. I would then copy the images I had saved onto my drive to iTunes. Would this be a possible problem, if the iPod could not read a certain type of image? Or is it that all the work I've been putting my iPod through the past couple of weeks, immediately filling the thing with 1700+ songs the first day and then doing all this playlist business?
I honestly have no clue. You can say that I'm perhaps asking for too much but when your player hiccups and the song "Now Playing" completely dies it can ruin your enjoyment. If there is anyone who can help me, you have my fullest gratitude.
    Thank you in advance!

Funny I found this post on the exact date that you posted it. I am having the exact same problem that you are (with regards to the song restarting the first couple to a few seconds into it - even one song not being playable partway through it). I don't think my identical problem is quite as severe as yours, though. I was doing the same thing as you: editing album art to songs with images essentially from the Internet (the images were of large dimension) to high bitrate-songs from large albums in rapid succession. I would go to the "get info" window, click the "artwork" tab, click in the album art field and copy paste, paste, paste one right after the other... I think this is causing our issue as the songs played just fine before. I've done a bit of research into this and one apple tips forum told me to right click the song and click "convert ID3 tags" and some other non-helpful stuff that I won't disclose yet for fear that you might get yourself deeper in the hole. But I'll tell you if you'd like. All in all, I am having the same issue and I need to resolve it because iTunes screwed up my mp3s that were just fine before sans album artwork. I even have those albums backed up on my external hard drive - with the ID3 tags edited and the songs corrupted! I wish I knew how to remove the headers. Anyone know how to fix this?

  • Classic 20gb Ipod - Skipping songs

Recently, my 20 GB iPod classic has started skipping songs randomly. For example, when I try to play a playlist or album, it will skip through the songs one by one until the playlist/album is completed, without actually playing any of the songs. Has anyone had a similar problem and had success in fixing this? Or is my iPod shot and it is time to get a new one? Thanks in advance.

The songs on the ipod are damaged. Tyr restoring it with the latest ipod updater, more on restoring can be found here http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=60983

  • Ipod mini skipping songs....very upset

my ipod mini is skipping songs. the songs it is skipping are songs from cd's. i have tried restting it and restoring it. i am getting very upset with the whole ipod deal and am ready to throw it out the window. this is not the first problem i've had.

I have tried everything...and my mini still won't play purchased music after 2-3 days.
I have tried to restore to factory settings. I have tried to restore in disc mode. I have de-authorized, and re-authorized itunes. I have rebuilt the itunes library. Nothing seems to work. I'm no ipod specialist, but I think there has to be a software problem that's causing this, not the ipod itself.
I have called tech support and spoken with them, and explained what I am experiencing and what all I have tried and their answer is that I have tried everything and that I should take it to a store and have them run a diagnosis on the unit. I did just that, the guys at the store erased the unit and reinstalled the software. I took it home synched it to my itunes and still 3 days later nothing...
I am guessing that apple cruises through these boards...I would like to challenge them to offer an explaination/solution to this problem. I know that I am not the only one experiencing this. I'm completely frustrated and trying to keep my cool here but I am really loosing patient with this product. So here is my plea...HELP!

  • Skipping songs halfway through

Recently, my 6-month-old 80 GB iPod has been skipping songs. The song will start playing and then, at some random point, it will stop and go to the next song. If I go back and fast forward through the song past the skipping point, it plays fine. However, if I fast forward to before the skipping point, it will most likely skip again at the same point. It happens with random songs at random points. Any suggestions or solutions?

The iPod Classic seems to fail to play the occasional track that iTunes, and indeed earlier iPod's, are happy to play. There is probably some minor technical error in the internal structure of the file which is normally ignored by other playback software but causes the Classic to bail out.
Some users have suggested that completely removing all id3 tags and then replacing the information is often a solution. This can be achieved in iTunes by selecting an affected track, right/option clicking and using the option Convert id3 tags > None. Since some files may mistakenly have more than one tag you may need to repeat this action. Once you have confirmed that no tag is present you can replace the tag information using Convert id3 tags > V2.3 (I believe it is recommended to avoid using V2.4).
Personally I've have found files for which this solution doesn't work. In this case the workaround is either to re-rip the tracks or get iTunes to re-encode the file, e.g. convert AAC to MP3 or vice versa and sync the newly encoded file to the iPod instead. Because transcoding will cause a loss of fidelity you should keep your original file so that if a future iPod firmware resolves this issue you can put your original file back onto the iPod.

  • Even 1.01 skips songs and freezes / stops videos

I bought my red 3G Nano on september 17th directly at apple store and updated the firmware to 1.01 soon as it arrived. But even wth the updated firmware my iPod randomly skips songs while playing. Some videos are freezing (randomly) or the iPod displays the apple-symbol on a grey radient background. If i restart the same video and scroll to some seconds before the moment it freezes or hangs before it plays fine but hangs some minutes later.
I did all ways of resetting even a complete restore doesnt solve this bug.
Did anyone with 1.01 have the same experience? Is this a hardware defect or a software bug.
    regards,
    Mark

Ok, my first point is I have never ever had an iPod before i bought these 2 8gb nanos(3g) black and 'red'.
In no way do I want to come across as rubbing your nose in it or smug, but EVERY feature works as designed on my 2, albeit I think Apple should change the way cover flow works on the nanos, ie not covers by artist.
I can only think that either the problems you're getting are related to the content your attempting to 'dump' to the iPod (very unlikely), or that simply you need to replace the iPod ASAP with your nearest Apple store.
    Best Regards.

  • Ios 6 skips songs

    Hi,
After upgrading my iPhone4 to IOS 6, for some reason or other the music player skips some songs completely like they are not on my iphone.
I am NOT using iTunes Match and are only trying to sync with my iTunes library.  I tried resetting the phone completely...but still the track refuse to play...
    Any ideas ???

    Three things come to mind:
    1) Shake to shuffle is set to ON
    2) The music file/s is/are corrupted
    3) The start/stop time has been edited on iTunes.
To turn OFF Shake to Shuffle, go to Settings > Music > Shake to Shuffle OFF
The last two steps have to be checked from iTunes on your PC/MAC
Find the song(s) in question, click the file select Get Info (right mouse click if PC, not sure on MAC sorry, either Apple logo and mouse click or one of the function buttons and click).  Look along the tabs and look for the start/stop time, untick them both and the file will be played from start to finish.
To check if the file itself is corrupted, you'll need to locate the original file (as above Get Info, then there's a section where it has the file path), play the file through your PC/MAC media player and see if it plays from start to finish.
It might be worth unsyncing the music library and resyncing again to see if that fixes it.

  • 3 Weird Problems! (really slow syncing, explorer crashing & skipping songs)

Ok guys, i have 3 weird problems with my iTunes 7.6. also had these problems with older versions too. I'm using iPod Touch 16GB edition. I'm using windows vista and have 2GB RAM and Core 2 Duo 2.2GHZ CPU.
1: First problem is that every 9 out of 10 times that i open iTunes, my windows explorer crashes and restarts, but iTunes doesn't open. after the windows explorer has successfully restarted, then i try to open iTunes again & it works fine.
2: I have USB 2.0 connections on my laptop. iTunes used to copy music to my iPod fine before, but recently it has been copying really slow. It's not just the music, but also the videos. Before it would take only about 3 - 5 seconds to transfer one song, now it may take as long as 20 - 30 secs. And yes all the songs are MP3 formats at 128 - 256kbps and 4mb - 5mb in size. For example i'm copying 2 videos right now to iTouch (682MB & 672MB) for the last one & a half hour and it's only copied about 75% now. Videos were already converted to MP4 format before being imported to iTunes.
3: I have lots of MP3 discourses which have very low bitrate (16kbps mono, 10MB - 12MB), and my iTouch skips them completely after about 10 secs and starts playing next file, but if i quickly forward to half of the file, they seem to run fine from there, but may skip near the end or after another 5 minutes of playback. it's all random. but they run fine on my pc. this problem is only with low bitrate files. Is there any fix for it without converting the file to higher bitrate? because these discourses are hours long and it will take a lot of space.
thanks guys, any help would be appreciated.

Hi Definitely is not the amount of data you hold ( i have 1TB of movies and video songs). My advice do a full restore to the ATV and start fresh with the computer. It is only what I will do.

My situation is improving a little.  When I returned home I found that my imac went to sleep during the match process (I would think that the process would keep the imac awake, but I recommend people with large libraries disable energy saving features while Match is working).  When it completed the process the second time I tried, a LOT of the greyed out tracks returned to my iOS devices.  The only ones missing right now are the ones pending upload to the cloud.  I have a few tracks that I've purchased and are on my iMac HDD that are greyed out, but that list is down to 10-15 out of 12,000... so I can work on those when Match is done.
I'm surprised that the iOS devices would restrict you from accessing sync'd content while Match is running - i.e. the content is already on the device.  However, it's error handling that must not currently exist in the service.
My biggest take away right now is the lack of information Apple provided on this service.  I'm using third-party tutorials online instead of a simple "what is Match and how does it work" document from Apple...  Documentation is still a must, especially for new and potentially complicated services like this.  I.E. tell me that you are going to restrict my access to my own content during this process, and that this process may take 2-3 days (still uploading).

  • 160 GB iPod Classic just started skipping songs. Is there a fix?

My 160 GB iPod Classic worked flawlessy for about two years and now has begun to skip songs. Always after the same playing time from zero to around 48 seconds. About 5% of the songs skip, but the list is growing and it seems to happen at random. I am on iTunes 9.2.1 (5) on my iMac running Tiger OSX 10.4.
(I also have an older 60 GB iPod that is working fine). I have read many strings by this community concerning  this problem and cannot seem to find a good solution here. It seems like some sort of corruption issue.  My iTunes library seems to be fine. If I delete an album from the iTunes library and then synch the iPod Classic to delete the same album from the iPod Classic then re-burn the album to iTunes and then resynch the iPod Classic, the album plays just fine. Of course, I do not wish to hunt and peck for all the bad songs in order to clean them up, especially if more corruption is going to happen. This is a maddening problem as many of you know. It drives me nuts and ruins my enjoyment of my music with this 160 GB iPod Classic.
My music is all in the AAC audio file format and I have about 8700 songs, some 25 music videos, 25 podcasts and thousands of photos taking up around 63 GB of space on my iPod Classic.  I sure wish that everyone who is having this skipping problem can band together and get a voice at Apple for some help.
The iPod Classic was a joy for about two years - and now - has become an aggravation.

Here I am submitting possible causes and solutions for my own problem. Possible root cause of skipping may be the use of a headset cable having a TRRS connector male plug having 4 conductor rings and 3 insulator rings. My problem started when I began to use an AKG Q460 headset which has this connector. Same TRRS plug may be found on iPhone headset or many other headsets having an active switch control in the cable. I think this headset plug may have caused corruption of digital song data when I actuated skip to next or previous song or possibly even when I increased or decreased the volume which is an incrementing pulse control signal. I went back to the headset cable having the same TRS connector as found on the Apple original headset and on my Sennheiser headset and there is even a short TRS cable that comes with the AKG headset. The problem seems to have gone away. No new skipping songs have occurred since using the TRS connector. You can learn more by searching on TRS connector on Wikipedia.
Fixing the corrupted songs was accomplished as follows: 1) MARK the corrupted song as a one star rating on the iPod. 2) Synch the iPod and then when synch is complete, DELETE the marked songs into the trash. 3) Synch the iPod again to remove the corrupted songs from the iPod. 4) Drag the songs out of the trash to the desktop. Then drag the songs back into iTunes. Remove the one star rating. 5) Synch the iPod once again to restore the uncorrupted songs. Fortunately, the iTunes version of the song does not get corrupted when synching the iPod. So far, this has worked fine. I even had one corrupted music video which was repaired with this method. Comments are welcome, especially regarding the TRS vs TRRS connector theory.

  • Ipod video is skipping songs

    Hi there!
I have had my ipod video for months now. Previously, I could choose "shuffle songs" from the main menu and just listen to my 3,000+ songs in random order.
I rebuilt my computer a month or so ago, and reinstalled the ipod software and itunes. When I did so, I had to completely re-synch all the stuff in my itunes with my ipod.
And the phenomenon I'm experiencing now is that when I do "shuffle songs," it skips songs. It will show the artist and title for a second, then show another artist and title for a second, then finally play the third song. (it's not always the third song--it's random). I have tried going to the song that was skipped directly through the artist's folder, but it still won't play. On my desktop computer (windows, by the way), I can go to that song, and it plays fine.
Anyone have any thoughts on this? Thanks in advance for your help...
    Susan

I had to completely start over with all my itunes stuff when my computer crashed a few months ago and that's pretty much like what you've had to do with your computer. The same thing happended to me, a lot of the songs started top skip over - there's two reasons for this(there could be more, but these are the two that I know of!)Firstly - do all your songs play in yout itunes libery??? If the songs that are skipping over don't play, the computer can't locate them(this is probably because you've had to re-build your computer - this can cause itunes to become confuesd as to the location of the songs - make sure your libery has the correct destination for all your music) and thus they won't play in the ipod.
And Secondly, If they do still play in itunes it sounds like you may have a hardware problem - that's what I had.I had to get a brand new one as a result!) The best way to try and fix this is to completely restore the ipod so that it's back to the original settings and then sync the ipod again.
That should fix your problem. If you end up having no luck with that chances are the problem really is your ipod(the hardware) and I'd send it back to be replaced. Hope this hepls you in some way!
