Skipping songs in a playlist

I select "forward" touch to play the next song but instead the IPOD will jump forward 2 to 5 songs as if I held my finger down on the forward button.  It then plays the song it has stopped on which is never the next in the playlist.  If I hit "return" it jumps back one and then immediately forward again right back to the song I was originally on.

Assuming you are in a region where you are allowed to redownload your past music purchases, delete the broken tracks from your iTunes library, go to the iTunes Store home page, click the Purchased link from the Quick Links section in the right-hand column, then select Music and Not on this computer. You should find download links for your tracks there.
If you don't see them straight away it may help to restart iTunes.
While downloading select Downloads in the left-hand column and make sure Allow Simultaneous Downloads is unticked.
If the problem persists, or that facility is not yet available in your region, contact the iTunes Store support staff through the report a problem links in your account history, or via Contact Support.

  • Ipod is skipping songs on my playlist??

My Touch is skipping music videos! If I pick a certain videos from my list of Music it jumps to a different video. But if I go under Video and pick the same video, it plays it?? What the heck? Messing up my workout routine, as I play a Workout Playlist while I sweat it out! Really, really annoying problem.
    Anyone have any ideas?

    Try:
    - Reset the iOS device. Nothing will be lost
Reset iOS device: Hold down the On/Off button and the Home button at the same time for at
least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.
    - Unsync all music and resync
    - Reset all settings
Go to Settings > General > Reset and tap Reset All Settings.
All your preferences and settings are reset. Information (such as contacts and calendars) and media (such as songs and videos) aren’t affected.
    - Restore from backup. See:
    iOS: How to back up
    - Restore to factory settings/new iOS device.
If still problem, make an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store since it appears you have a hardware problem.

  • Shuffle playlist will skip every song in the playlist.

If shuffle is checked before attempting to play a song, the whole playlist will be skipped, song by song, although the list does re-arrange itself as a shuffle playlist. If I play a song and then check shuffle, the song will continue to play thorough, but all subsequent songs will be skipped. It will play the last possible song when that point is reached. I have not found a single comment about this particular problem online, and I have been searching for days. I am using a Mac mini as a music server and running OS 10.6.8. The version of iTunes on that computer is 10.5.2. I have no plans to update iTunes on this computer. I have repaired permissions and run DiskWarrior. No songs have "skip shuffle" checked.
I also have a new iMac running Mavericks with iTunes 12.0.1, and playlists have no problem shuffling on that machine, nor do they have problems on my iPhone, iPad or iPod.

    Ginger,
Make sure that all the songs have a checkmark.  iTunes will not automatically advance to an unchecked song.
If you do not see the checkboxes, go to Preferences > General and enable Show List Checkboxes.

  • Is there anyway to shuffle a skipped song playlist?

Before iOS 7/iTunes 11, I used to be able to make my playlists entirely of 'skip when shuffling' songs (classical and movie scores, musicals, etc) and still make them shuffle within themselves.  That is to say, the Musical playlist would have 100 or so songs that are all to be checked to skip when shuffling and when I shuffled all the songs in my Library they would skip.  But when I would go to the top of the playlist and click Shuffle, it would shuffle all the songs in the playlist just fine.  I've been able to do this for a while now but for some reason now it won't work (it only 'shuffles' to a random song in the playlist and plays just that one song before ending).  Has anyone else had this problem or found a solution?
Running an iPhone 5, with iOS 7.0.2, with iTunes 11.1 on a 2008 MBP running ML 10.8.5

    I use this http://www.iringer.net/?u=3542950304&v=2.6.0.0
Basically you can take an MP3, edit the parts out that you dont want (so its around 30 seconds long, which is long enough for a ringtone), it then converts it and if so desired, imports it into iTunes, you then just sync the iPhone in the usual manner and the ringtone is added. It will then show up in the custom ringtone section, which is where the other pre installed ringtones are stored.
I have used it since Sept 2009 and its an excellent free program.
I have never tried this, but apparently you can rip audio off of video and use that has a ringtone too.

  • Playlist skipping songs half way through song

My iPod (touch 8GB) started made a "blip" sound only a few seconds through a song today and skipped to the next. Same thing again, a blip sound and skip to the next song. The iPod was kept in my fleece jacket pocket. I took it out and held it in my hand and it seemed fine but when I put it back into the pocket, it started skipping songs again. Is it sensitive to being upside down or moved around or was it simply a matter of a button being touched inadvertently? Apologies for stupid questions, I was an iPod virgin up until Christmas Day

Done! Thank you so much for your reply

  • Why do some songs in a playlist not play, or stop after only 1 song?

I've had several playlists on my ipod that stop after playing 1 song/track, as well as skip over severl songs in that playlist. I know the tracks are good, because I can play them in iTunes, as well as play them one by one manually in the playlist.
I've restored my ipod to factory settings, then re-synced everything, and i still have this problem.
I thought the HD may have some bad sectors, so I tried running the Hard Drive scan, but that option does not show up on the I/O menu when I am in diagnostic mode. (I have a separate UNANSWERED post about this too)

You could try a format of the iPod in Windows. A full format does a check and remap of bad sectors on the iPod hard drive, and you would need to restore the iPod as normal (using the iPod updater) afterward. This can also work when the iPod is recognized by the computer, but not by the updater.
First, put the iPod into forced disk mode.
See: How to put the iPod into disk mode.
On your PC, go "my computer" and right click on the iPod, then choose "format". Ensure the settings are at "default" and that "quick format" is not checked. Now select "format". It will take a while, but when that's finished, restore the iPod using the updater.
To exit forced disk mode, reset the iPod.
    How to reset the iPod.
You can also check the iPod's hard drive for errors using Windows ScanDisk.
Put the iPod into disk mode as previously mentioned. Go to "my computer" and right click on the iPod then select "properties", then "tools". Select the option to scan the disk for any errors.

  • How can i set songs within a playlist, or an entire playlist, so that they are not included when using the shuffle function on IPOD Classic? Is this possible?

How can i set songs within a playlist, or an entire playlist, so that they are not included when using the shuffle function on IPOD Classic?
    Is this possible?

You can set any song to Skip when shuffling.
In your iTunes Library, highlight the song and right-click/Get Info. On the Options tab is the Skip when shuffling box. Select that and then Sync the iPod with your Library.

  • How do you get I tunes to automatically skip songs it can't locate?

I really don't like the latest upgrade.  Getting rid of the coverflow is a bad idea.  It was one of the things I liked about Itunes, so might not bother with Itunes anymore.
However, in the meantime, when playing all my music before the upgrade it would just skip songs it can't locate, which will happen a lot for me.  Now though, it stops playing and brings up an error message, giving me the choice to locate the file, or cancel.  If I click cancel, then Itunes stops playing.  This is really frustrating.  Is there a setting somewhere, or is it another reason for me to want to leave Itunes?

Can't really remember if that's possible, as I don't have any desire to do that, but I think you need to put them in a playlist.

  • 80 gb Classic Ipod, skipping song issue

Ok I've had my Ipod for about 4 years or so. I only have 2000 songs on it. recently i have been going through playlists and playing songs. my problem is: songs that have played before, like 2-4 weeks ago, are being skipped over. in the playlist i was in i had 90 songs, started playing got through 12 songs but it skipped like 3  or 4 of those. so really i only listened to 8 songs. how do i fix this problem??? money is tight here, and i cant get all willy nilly and go off and buy a new ipod, i gotta save for it.
please help, or give suggestions to my problem. i really want to keep my ipod.

Most likely your iPod hardisk or battery is dying.
Best to use iTunes to Restore your iPod, which will delete your iPod data and music and Reallocate the bad clusters.
Then sync your iTunes library to your iPod.
Good luck and Have a Nice day.

  • Classic 20gb Ipod - Skipping songs

Recently, my 20 GB iPod classic has started skipping songs randomly. For example, when I try to play a playlist or album, it will skip through the songs one by one until the playlist/album is completed, without actually playing any of the songs. Has anyone had a similar problem and had success in fixing this? Or is my iPod shot and it is time to get a new one? Thanks in advance.

The songs on the ipod are damaged. Tyr restoring it with the latest ipod updater, more on restoring can be found here http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=60983

  • Missing songs in Smart Playlists on iOS

I use smart playlists a lot. For example I have a playlist like this:
    "Rating" IS "5 stars"
"Last played" NOT WITHIN "6 months"
    "Media Type" IS "Music"
"Last Skipped" NOT WITHIN "7 days"
When I start iTunes I have 447 songs in this playlist, on iOS I only have 430 songs. Where might this difference come from? Although the iOS list shows less songs, I found at least 2 songs which should not be on iOS as they were played 2 weeks ago. Can I cause the Music Player on iOS to refresh the playlist? On iTunes I have a flag "Live updating" set.
By the way, I tested this with iTunes on a mac which does not have my main library, so iTunes only show songs which where matched correctly. So it is not a matching problem!
    Any idea?

Ok, it is a monologue up to now, but when I search at google for my problem I already find my own thread, so I will also share my latest findings:
The problem is definately caused by the "last played" field. This is not synced correctly between two iTunes Libraries (and I guess it is the same on iOS, but there is no way to check the "last played" information on iOS). The same song has different dates on my two macs. So in my opinion no smart playlist using "last played" will work correctly when using iTunes Match.
The only way to get the "last played" field in sync again, is to deactivate and activate iTunes Match on each device. But they are only in sync for short time. As soon as I start playing songs, they are not updated correctly via the cloud.
I also found this thread, which is pointing out the same problems:

  • Major problem. ipod skipping songs continuously

I have a refurbished 160 gig ipod classic, purchased within the last month or so. I was listening on shuffle at work today, it suddenly started freezing at 0:00 of a song. So I closed the playlist and shuffled again, all was well. Well a while later, it started doing it again, only this time it freezes on 0:00 for a while, then skips to the next song. It's not just certain songs. If I close out the playlist and start over it will play for a while... but it will start doing it again. Is this a firmware issue, or is the device defective? Thanks

forgot to mention that when it's skipping songs, the hard drive continuously makes a clicking noise. If i'm understanding this right, the hard drive must be going out, but what's weird is songs will play if I close out and start again, but only for a while....
Also, could someone tell me how to get the ball rolling, as far as sending this thing back?

  • Can i keep songs in a playlist but keep them out of my library

Can anyone help me... I'd like to take the christmas songs out of my library, but still keep them on a playlist called 'christmas music' I'm sick of putting my library on shuffle at any time past christmas and having to go to my computer to press skip when the xmas songs come on. I'd love any help. There has to be a better way then creating a playlist called 'Every song but xmas music' Also if I uncheck the boxes next to the christmas songs in my library, they still transfer to my ipod right? Otherwise I would just do that. Thanks in advance.
    PC   Windows XP

Go to your Christmas playlist and hold control and click on on the checkbox next to one of the songs. This will deselect all of the songs on the playlist. You can use the same method to reselect them all. That way, none of your Christmas music plays, and it's easy to reselect them all when you update your iPod. I'm not sure if unselected music updates to an iPod. Maybe someone else here knows.

  • Zen Neeon - cracking band - skipping songs - highly disappointed in the quality of workmans

Has anyone had any problems with the "band" around the zen neeon cracking? It has not been dropped. It has been cared for like a newborn child and within -2 weeks it had a crack in it. Now, a couple of months later it has 3 cracks in it. My husband said the band was probably too tight to begin with and was cracking to relieve the pressure on itself. But of course I called warranty services and they say it is physical damage so it is my tough luck. This thing has been babied!!!! It is poor quality workmanship. All the kids in my daughter's class wanted one after they seen hers after Christmas. I specifically told her to tell them WE DO NOT RECCOMMEND THE ZEN NEEON!? I told her to show them what hers has done (the cracking) and suggest they might want to spend their money elsewhere. Now on top of all this, it has started going bonkers!? I created her some playlists, and they used to play fine. Now, it will play one or two, skip 3-4 of the songs, then go back to playing. It used to work fine. I told her we would delete them off, add them back on, and try that again. Has anyone else had this skipping song problem?HAS ANYONE ELSE HAD THIS PROBLEM OF THE BAND CRACKING?I wish I would have spent my money on an Ipod.Message Edited by bulldogmama on 03-0-200602:0 PM

I have!? There's a big crack in mine, and yes I've dropped it, but not nearly as hard to have caused a crack (I catch it by the headphone cord before it hits the ground XD)? My brother saw it, and he's like, "What the heck did you do?"? and I told him "nothing!"?Mine's been going nuts as well!?It just gives me trouble! Now this time, I hope this isn't a permanent problem, but today, I was listening to my Zen Neeon. I shut it off, put it away, and then later on in the day, went to listen to it. Turned it on. The "Creative" screen comes up, and FREEZES there. The lights that normally flash when the player is turned on do not appear,? just the "Creative" logo, and it FREEZES there. I reset it, and turn it back on, and it just keeps doing the same thing. I'm VERY disappointed with it. Not to mention I'm going to have to take the heat from my parents because they bought it for me. I wouldn't reccomend it to -anyone- ever!
