Skipping songs on itunes

Hello! I have a Dell Latitude D600. I have had itunes for Windows for nearly a year and had no problems. Then a month ago, my hard drive crashed and was replaced. I have reinstalled most of the programs that were lost, including itunes.
Now, however, the itunes songs (doesn't matter if I bought them from the itunes store or if I downloaded them from a CD) skip if have anything else running other than a single webpage. This is very new, as I used to be able to run lots of things without itunes skipping.
Memory shouldn't be the problem. I actually just updated my RAM a month before the hard drive crashed. I look on CPU usage on Windows Task Manager, and I am rarely using more than 20% of the CPU. Itunes is the most recent version available.
Is there some setting on my computer that I need to fix?
Thank you!

The most likely cause of this would be on-demand virus scanning. I've had to set an exception in F-Secure on my PC to leave my 220 GB of FLAC files alone to solve this problem. If you have a large music library, I would look into the settings for your virus scanner and see if it helps to exclude files with the relevant extensions (MP3, M4A, M4P, etc.).
If you schedule or manually carry out virus scans on your PC, then just make sure that you enable your virus scanner to scan all files.

  • Skipping songs on itunes and ipod. Know why?

Of course I have gotten 2 new ipods and since my warranty was up I had to pay for another one. But now the problem, itunes and ipod are both skipping. Some songs play for 5 seconds, some for 5 minutes. Does anyone know why? Do I need to delete and reload all my songs? (none are illegal downloads.) Thanks if you can help.

  • Why IPod skips songs and ITunes plays them

I loaded the songs from CD and have played them several times over 2 or 3 years.  Recently, I tried to play them on my IPod Classic and they just skip to the next track.  I have restored my IPod and reloaded it.  Still, the songs won't play.

Is it only a particular group or tracks or just any of your tracks loaded from CD at random?
It could be an indication or a damaged or dying hard drive.  I would recommend doing a disk diagnostic on the iPod's HD using the instructions given by turingtest2 in this older thread.  He also covers what the resulting numbers indicate.

  • ITunes match and iTunes radio skips songs on wifi

iTunes match and iTunes radio have been skipping songs while on wifi. We have a Linksys EA6350 setup in WPA2 personal for both the 2.5 ghz and 5 ghz networks. Both are setup as mixed 802.11n/ac with both on a channel width of AUTO. We are using two Apple TV's, iPhone 5s and a iPad 2. One of the apple TV's is setup as a different iTunes account than the others. It skips songs on all devices and accounts, however when I turn the wifi off on my iPhone both iTunes match and iTunes radio work flawlessly. What should I do?

    +1 same issue here.
Not sure exactly when it started, but seems like it was sometime on or after 3/7.
It appears to affect every device I have on the home network (iMac, MacBook Pro, Macbook Air, iPhone, iPad).  Most devices are wifi, but I can confirm the issue also occurs on my iMac which is connected via ethernet.  I'm able to get both iTunes match streaming and iTunes Radio streaming to the iPhone and iPad if I disable wifi and use LTE.
On my iOS devices, it just looks like it's skipping songs repeatedly...every now and then it might play one song, but it skips 30-50 before that happens.  A few times it just kept skipping until the device rebooted itself.  On my OS X devices, I don't get any of the skipping, it just looks like it's trying to load the radio station (i get the blue progress bar at 100% but nothing ever happens).
For what it's worth, I'm using an Apple Time Capsule for as my DHCP for ethernet and wifi.  My internet provider is Cox Communications.

  • HT1725 When I download a song from iTunes into my library, it often says it has downloaded, charges me for it, and on the song in my library shows the full playing time. However, when I play the song, at around halfway through it skips to the next song?

    i'm just wondering:
    a) why it does this
and b) how to stop it doing this, because it still charges me for the song :/

If your country's iTunes Store allows you to redownload purchased tracks, I'd delete your current copies of the dodgy tracks and try redownloading fresh copies. For instructions, see the following document:
Downloading past purchases from the App Store, iBookstore, and iTunes Store
Otherwise, I'd report the problem to the iTunes Store.
Log in to the Store. Click on "Account" in your Quick Links. When you're in your Account information screen, go down to Purchase History and click "See all".
Find the items that are not playing properly. If you can't see "Report a Problem" next to the items, click the "Report a problem" button. Now click the "Report a Problem" links next to the items.

  • Is there a way to search for skipped songs in my iTunes library?

I'd like to know whether there's a quicker way to find songs that are being skipped in my iTunes library, than simply manually checking each one.  I've been rearranging and deleting music files in Windows Explorer recently, so I know that there is a chance that I have demolished the link iTunes had to some of the files, but there's no way I can remember what all the modified albums are.  I know how to reestablish the links when I do find a song that is being skipped, but I'd love to go through the whole library and be able to find them all at once.
The last time I did this, manually - and it seemed to take hours - I did find quite a lot of songs that were being skipped, and was able to reestablish the links or in some cases just delete the song from iTunes since i hadn't wanted it anyway.  But even then it was a little hard, since after manually checking in the quickest way I could - going through the song list and briefly playing each one for a second or fraction of a second - there was no way of sorting the songs by whether they were skipped or not.  I just had to be very careful as I scrolled, to catch each one that had the symbol indicating non-playability.
All that to say - is there some better, automatic way of searching for non-playable, skipped songs, and is there some way of sorting them out from the rest so one can address them, and not miss any?

Same question. Used to have an iPod. Lost it (best digital player ever), now I use other portable device. The mp3 files have their id3tag edited in the original file, but the .m4a don't!.
Want to know someway to write the info from the library to the original .m4a files.

  • ***New*** iTunes 7 skipping songs problem (2-3 seconds of play only)

    Hey all,
Long post here, but I hope you'll bear with me, as I reckon this is something of a new fault with iTunes 7.
Found a bug with iTunes 7 on my iPod Video which I don't see any references to from anyone else. (I presume I'm not alone, but I've Googled the **** out of this problem and no one else seems to specifically have it...)
Basically, with iTunes 6.0.5, all was well. For putting songs ONTO the iPod, I've been using Anapod Explorer for well over a year, again without any problems. (I don't usually keep much of a music library on the PC - it all gets stored on DVD-burned MP3 discs, so there is a backup, just not on the machine. For that reason, and for personal preferences with iTunes' own way of updating, I find Anapod's copy and paste approach to updating the iPod to be much handier.)
So, long story short, a few weeks ago I upgraded to iTunes 7. Left it a while longer than usual because I was burned by an earlier iPod software upgrade which stopped me from playing divx/xvid videos created using iPod Videora Converter - on that occassion, I had to pull the firmware BACK to what it was when I first got the iPod. Thankfully, whatever bug was in 1.1 in relation to home-created videos is no longer there, and 1.2 works perfectly well. The brightness feature is the main reason I risked changing the software again.
So you would have thought all would be well with the songs, then? Unfortunately not. iTunes 7, slick and all as it appears, seems to create a situation whereby, once I disconnect from iTunes, ALL songs suddenly only play for 1-3 seconds before STOPPING, with the 'playing' bar jumping all the way to the last second and holding there. Skip forward to the next song, and same thing!
This cannot be an issue in relation to Anapod, as it never affected iTunes seeing the songs updated to the iPod via that method before. What iTunes 7 does seem to have done, though, is prevent songs being played in the normal way by introducing this frustrating 'start, 3-seconds, stop' issue. It will eventually go to the next song after about 1-2 minutes of silence, and then the process repeats. Throughout all of this, the songs do play normally within iTunes 7(0.2) so it is not a hard drive or corrupt file problem.
I should say that this is not crucial or a desperate situation, as I've already found a way to fix it. Moving BACK to iTunes 6.0.5 (or any 6.x.x version) and playing a few songs within iTunes, and then disconnecting will miraculously return all the songs to the usual full playing ability.
Unfortunately for Apple, this means (for the second time in a year) that I cannot update to their latest release as it ruins the playability of my iPod. I would like the extra features in iTunes 7 (for playing songs on the computer - as I said I never used it for updating anyway), but this latest glitch means I'll be using the more stable and reliable 6 for some time to come.
What I'm curious from the good folks on the forums here is to see if any of you have heard of this exact problem until now, and if so, what solution anyone had to get around it (possibly including actually keeping iTunes 7!)
Thanks for the help. Sorry for the long post. It all seemed kind of necessary when I see so many posts about 'skipping songs' but never about 2-3 seconds worth of play (most usually say they get more than half way.)

  • Why is the iTunes radio skipping songs repeatedly and it won't stop?

OK when I was listening to Itunes Radio I was in the top 50 pop chart and I skipped through a couple songs and it went crazy. It began to repeatedly skip song after song with out using your 6 skips. Also I left that chart and went to the alternative chart  and it did the same thing without doing anything. The only way I got it to stop for a couple minutes was bye turning off wifi and turn it back on using the IPhone 6 Plus.

    Try this.
Reset the iPad by holding down on the sleep and home buttons at the same time for about 10-15 seconds until the Apple Logo appears - ignore the red slider - let go of the buttons.
If that does not work, sign out of your account, restart your iPad and then sign in again. Settings>Store>Apple ID - tap your ID and sign out.
Restart the iPad by holding down on the sleep button until the red slider appears and then slide to shut off. To power up hold the sleep button until the Apple logo appears and let go of the button.
Go back to Settings>Store and sign in again.

  • New ipod - skipping songs bought from iTunes

I recently bought a new ipod 30GB. The library has sync'd to the new iPod, as has the songs pucrhased from the iTunes website. However when I play these songs (the ones purhased from iTunes), it skips through them very quickly without playing any of them?
Can anybody help me? Should I take it back to Apple?

I have a 60GB Ipod and it is doing the exact same thing.
Puchased songs just skips right thru. I went to apple store
where I purchased and they wern't much help. I was told to
go home and do a restore. Didn't help at all so I called
the applecore support and they had me do another restore.
This did not work either so they had me ship it back to them. Once they received it they claimed it was fine. Well
they must not have tried going into my purchased from itunes directory. They had the nerve to not replace it.2 weeks and 6000 miles later it still will not play the purchased songs from ipod. I want to say that originally
when i purchased the songs from itunes they played. So it's like one day it just stopped playing all purchased from itunes music. Just wanted to let you know it's not you
there is a major issue here and it started around 3 weeks ago. I beleive they know there is an issue but won't admit it. Shame as I almost was gonna convert from windows to an
apple computer not now though. Like I said they have given me the runaround here and im more than dissatified im really ****** @ this point. So for now all we cando is listen to music that we bought from CD's & added to ipod.
You would think that they would want this type of problems
fixed as they stand to lose money if I can't play purchased from itunes music Im sure not gonna buy it from them to have it start to play and then skip thru the 60 sonfs I purchased from them. Sorry to give you the bad news, but I think we are screwed.

  • Ipod mini skips over downloaded itunes songs only

after downloading songs from itunes, the ipod mini skips over the songs after playing them 3 or 4 times

Make sure you have the newest version of iTunes and iPod Updater, and do a restore with the Updater and resync the songs via iTunes.
Generally skipping purchased songs are related to out of date software and updating and restoring or reputting them back on seems to help.

  • ITunes Skipping Songs/Part Songs

    Hi,
I purchased an Apple iPod 3-4 years ago and loaded music into iTunes and purchased songs from the iTunes store.
Late 2007 I started experiencing problems with songs starting then skipping partly through and moving on to the next song. This occured both for uploaded music and songs purchased from the store.
I put this down to a fault with my iPod and so purchased a new iPod Touch at the start of 2008. I sync'd with my existing iPod account and have the same library but the problem persisted. It also appears to be progressive in that a song that played okay last week won't play okay this week. Once it starts skipping it is "fixed" i.e. the song will always skip from that same point in all future playbacks.
I have done a reset on my iTouch but the problem persists - which suggests to me it is iTunes-based, in that it has happened on two separate machines tied to the iTunes account.
Interestingly there is no skipping problem when I play affected songs through iTunes on my Dell PC.
Any suggestions as to what is happening? And importantly on how I rectify it? It is extremely frustrating.
    Thanks
    Peter

I just want to add to this concern that my iTunes also skips and it would be nice to get a little bit of help on this.
iTunes it skipped songs i.e. a song will play halfway through and then skips to the next song.
    1) This problem is usually limited to all songs in a particular albums. One of them, for example, is in MPEG-1, Layer 3 format. Media Kind set to Music and other options unchecked.
    2) A similar yet different problem I have is that some albums play fine under iTunes but the skipping problem occurs under iPod. For example, I have a language course album, so I've tried under Media Kind = Music or Audiobook, but the problems remains
