Sky Fibre constant drop out and low speed

Hi everyone,
Just recently switched provider from Plusnet fibre to Sky fibre and boy, has it been a stressful few days. First off, our fibre went live on the 6th of this month but these last couple of days I've been experiencing low speeds between 10-20 mb which I understand is meant to be normal (Never had this issue when I joined plusnet) and I have constant drop outs when I'm surfing the net or playing internet games on my Wii U
I've phoned Sky within the last two days and told them what's going on and they've done some tests on their end and they are telling me that I'm getting speeds up to 41 mb which I'm not getting, but they can't seem to understand why I keep having this drop out issue with my devices and my laptop and my gaming console. They have sent me a new hub, but I personally don't think sending out a new hub will make a difference. I've stuck a a Ethernet cable into my Sky fibre router and attached a openreach router, to the other end and see if that stops the drop out.
I'm inclined to leave sky, because I have a feeling this poor service will continue, unless someone can help me.
Thanks

  • Broadband Dropping Out and Connection Speed Decrea...

Sorry to be a pain but I am back here again.
Since the last issue with speed, connection drop out and noisey line which required an underground cable to be partly replaced, all has been fantastic and no problem to report. Many thanks to those who were involved in helping with getting that issue resolved.
About 10 days ago the broadband started to drop out at random times but not too often. The broadband hub light would go out for about 15 seconds before returning. My connection would automatically resume and no great problem. It has since become more of a problem and pain.
The frequency of drop out increased with a sort of pattern. Last week an example would be drop out at 11:50 am, again at 12:40 and once more at 1:30 pm. Each time the connection returned my computer icon for wifi would be a warning triangle. I clicked on the icon and would get a message 'limited connection'. The only way I could connect again would be to click the icon and select to disconnect and then connect, making sure a 'tick' was in the box for autoconnection. A bit more of a pain than before but usable. It got more of a problem over the next few days.
The frequency of drop out increased. This became a right pain when trying to purchase things online as I could not be sure in the purchase had been completed or if I tried again would I get two lots? Upon broadband connection returning I would not be able to 'auto connect' but would get the warning triangle of 'limited connection'. I tried the click to disconnect and reconnect but it failed to work. I ended up shutting down the laptop, waiting before powering up. This failed to work as all I would get is the warning triangle and 'limited connection'. The only way I could reconnect was to press the 'restart' button. This worked but it got worse.
The next day the broadband connection would drop out every couple of hours. It got to the point that even pressing the 'restart' button would not allow me to connect. I tried three times and gave up. I had to resort to pressing the very small 'reset' button on the back. This cured the problem for about 12 hours before the drop outs started again.
It is now a case of 50/50 if I can connect to the broadband again after a drop out. It is getting quite frustrating. I only used the small 'reset' as a last resort. I have noticed that the speed of the connection has started to drop down also.
Each time the hub drops broadband and I can auto connect and do not press any hub button, the timer has reset to zero days and zero hours. I know it takes about a week for the connection to settle. I do wonder if these drop outs are messing the connection settings for my line speed? The line used to be rated at 21 Mbps but has decreased to 17 Mbps, my actual connection used to be 19 Mbps but struggles to reach 14 Mbps. It is slowly dropping with each and every drop out.
I also looked at the event log in the hub. Just before each broadband drop out I see a external connection is made with the initials 'CWMP' followed by 'event code 1 boot' or 'event code 6 connection request' or 'event code 4 value change'. Straight after the broadband connection drops out with out fail.
All I can seem to find out is that the external connection is either the hub connecting to the server or vice versa? As for the codes? I have no idea at all.
I only ever resort to pressing 'restart' if I cannot connect to my hub. I have only pressed the 'reset' as a last resort as nothing else worked to allow me to reconnect.
Can anyone offer any help or best a permanent fix?

I connected to the test socket and used a wired connection for the speed test and hub stats.
The hub position and run of cables are the same as when the last engineer advised as the best set up.
Since my last post I have checked the event log and 'CWMP' has made at least two remote connections but the hub did not drop broadband connection. The broadband has been stable but just slower than usual, as you stated due to the drop outs/disconnections.
I guess a case of wait and monitor to see if the problem has resolved itself?
Will the speed automatically return to the usual 18 to 19 Mbps? or will something else have to be done to reset it at the exchange/server?
Here are the hub stats from this morning.

  • Regular drop outs and slow speed, likely to be noi...

    Hello,
I'm hoping this works, I've had some success on other forums.
When I signed up, I was quoted a speed of 11mb, for info, I'm near the centre of Worcester city, so hardly the middle of nowhere, but I'm aware I'm open to exchange usage and attenuation.
I can currently download at around a max speed of 230kb/s, way below what I would expect from 11mb. I noticed that the phone line was very noisy when I moved in, so I am tempted to blame that. I've done all the checks and had everything connected to the master socket (it's a rented property, so I'm nervous about pulling out fixtures and what-not) but to no avail. I called the helpline and after going through the script but was told there was no problem on the line, unfortunately.
In the last week, I've begun to experience regular connection drops, several times in an evening.
    Here are some router stats:
    Downstream: 1,180 Kbps
    Upstream: 664 Kbps
    ADSL settings
    VPI/VCI: 0/38
    Type: PPPoA
    Modulation: G.992.3 Annex A
    Latency type: Interleaved
    Noise margin (Down/Up): 4.4 dB / 2.7 dB
    Line attenuation (Down/Up): 44.5 dB / 24.0 dB
    Output power (Down/Up): 0.0 dBm / 10.6 dBm
    FEC Events (Down/Up): 131879 / 1358784
    CRC Events (Down/Up): 156 / 457
I had a similar issue with TalkTalk which ended up with a call out, I'm hoping this isn't needed here. Is it possible for the forum staff to look into the situation?
    Many thanks,
    Alex
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

Blimey you're fast on here, thanks for that. I'm nowhere near an expert on this, but I do know what I need to know.
I'm just trying this in case I've forgotten something daft.
I used the master for about a day but gave up after no improvement. The silent test is far from that, more crackles and pops than the eponymous cereal, that's why I'm suspecting that over proximity of electrical equipment etc.
Bit more info. I'm in a block of flats, and because I've had a corded phone directly in the master and still got a noisy line, is that more likely to be outside of the property rather than in? I'm trying to avoid the cost of a call out and I'm sure the landlord doesn't want his walls taken apart.
    Anyway, lovely stats:
    1. Best Effort Test:  -provides background information.
    Download  Speed
    1415 Kbps
    0 Kbps
    2000 Kbps
    Max Achievable Speed
Download speedachieved during the test was - 1415 Kbps
For your connection, the acceptable range of speeds is 800-2000 Kbps.
     Additional Information:
     Your DSL Connection Rate :1793 Kbps(DOWN-STREAM), 800 Kbps(UP-STREAM)
IP Profile for your line is - 1581 Kbps
    2. Upstream Test:  -provides background information.
    Upload Speed
    529 Kbps
    0 Kbps
    800 Kbps
    Max Achievable Speed
    >Upload speed achieved during the test was - 529 Kbps
     Additional Information:
Upstream Rate IP profile on your line is - 800 Kbps
Bit shabby for an 11mb line no?

  • Connection issues and low speeds

    Hi there,
my family have been with BT now for about 3 or so years and the connection had been rather good until about late last year. According to my family it's everytime I come back home from uni the internet starts to play up as in:
    . Low speeds
    .Drops out and loses connection
Believing it was somehow my laptop causing the issues I backed everything up and completly wiped it because BT support thought it may be a virus on my machine even the the checks came back with nothing. So I've wiped my laptop and restarted it like it was a brand new laptop...still we're having these issues so I refuse to believe it's my laptop causing the problems. I've changed the chanel on the hub so many times it just doesn't make a difference. Tried different DSL adapters tried different cables even a wired connection causes problems. I am begining to think it's because the router has had it but I am willing to try anything at this point before asking for a new router from BT. Even BT don't seem to know what the problem is all they do is reset the routers chanel every single time I ring them.
So any advice or help would be greatly appreaciated
    Many Thanks
    Benjamin
PS - sorry for any grammar/spelling mistakes , I've written this in a hurry before the internet drops out again...

Hi all Dropped a little excerpt of my router status log below.Basically the internet keeps dropping out, making streaming a pain in the a##....If anyone could offer advice, suggestions etc, Itd be greatly appreciated.  Our internet was flawless for three days at our new address, no drop outs stable, fair speed. however the last two days all of a sudden we are getting continual drop outs...?? I have done the usual basics, >Checked lines, Replaced and tested Cables, replaced with new filter and tested without filters.>Tested using three different modems (known working), Netcomm, Netgear, Telstra technicolour... All perform the exact same.>Updated modem firmwares, and powercycled all modems.>Factory reset each modem, >We dont have a static ip, so each time it drops there is a new ip, However after a while the DOS rubbish happens again and the internet drops out.)> Tested using PPPOA and PPPOE, might be luck, but pppoe seems better?>Tested using different line noise profiles. No change.Recently I also changed all the Wifi Security options so that only one pc is on the network, in case one pc is causing the drama?? >Now using a netgear DGND3700v2 (like it best lol)

I like and use Top Sites but it has become unsuable with this constant blacking out and reloading the thumbnails.  My MBP has not seen a problem at all.
I have been searching every other day for over a month trying to find a fix in Windows Safari with no joy.  I want to resolve, not switch browsers. Please offer up a solution that only refreshes the Top Site thumbnails once a day or as some controlable interval.  Started about two versions ago, now on ver 5.1.5. Windows 7 64bit.
    Safari 5.1.5 for Win64 bit, Windows 7!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I think I solved the wifi connection problem, just by switching off completely the router! sounds trivial, but in this case it worked!!!
the funny behaviour of the trackpad/cursor still persists. any suggestion???
    thanks again

  • Hi, my iPad 2 keeps dropping out and going back to blank screen, I then have to enter my password again, start downloading or reading and it happens again. I have reset the iPad but it is still the same.

Hi, my iPad 2 keeps dropping out and going back to a blank screen. I have to again enter my password and go back to what I was doing and then it happens again, I have tried resetting and nothing has changed.
    Thanks
    Ron

First, try a system reset.  It cures many ills and it's quick, easy and harmless...
Hold down the on/off switch and the Home button simultaneously until you see the Apple logo.  Ignore the "Slide to power off" text if it appears.  You will not lose any apps, data, music, movies, settings, etc.
If the Reset doesn't work, try a Restore.  Note that it's nowhere near as quick as a Reset.  It could take well over an hour!  Connect via cable to the computer that you use for sync.  From iTunes, select the iPad/iPod and then select the Summary tab.  Follow the on-screen directions for Restore and be sure to say "yes" to the backup.  You will be warned that all data (apps, music, movies, etc.) will be erased but, as the Restore finishes, you will be asked if you wish the contents of the backup to be copied to the iPad/iPod.  Again, say "yes."
At the end of the basic Restore, you will be asked if you wish to sync the iPad/iPod.  As before, say "yes."  Note that that sync selection will disappear and the Restore will end if you do not respond within a reasonable time.  If that happens, only the apps that are part of the IOS will appear on your device.  Corrective action is simple -  choose manual "Sync" from the bottom right of iTunes.
If you're unable to do the Restore, go into Recovery Mode per the instructions here.  You WILL lose all of your data (game scores, etc,) but, for the most part, you can redownload apps and music without be charged again.  Also, if you have IOS-7, read this.

  • CS3 exporting drop outs and red screen flashes when exporting via Media Encoder

    Hi forum
I have been using Premiere Pro CS3 for a long time on my dual core PC with no issues.  Suddenly, I am now getting a major issue i MUST get sorted asap for a client is waiting for the final video.
It is a HDV (1080i, 25fps) project/timeline.  An 8 minute video has been put together in this and every time I try to export as either MPEG2 (Blu Ray) or WMV, I am getting pixelation in certain places usually around certain cuts, or horrible red blocky pixels filling up the screen for a second or two. They seem to come always at the same point.  They don't happen when i render the timeline or show up when playing the edit itself in the timeline - just when i playback the exported video in premiere or in Windows Media Player.
To try a workaround I exported the whole video as high quality MPEG2 (blu ray - 30mbps), which I brought into a new sequence, then I exported small sections where this problem was happening as Uncompressed Microsoft AVI and called them "patch 1", "patch 2" etc. and brought them back in and overlayed over where the problems were occuring.  The short Uncompressed AVI patches seem to have exported with no glitches, so theoretically I thought I had a clean good timeline in my new sequence made up of the MPEG 2 video overlayed in the dodgy places with uncompressed AVI "patches".  However, trying to export a new MPEG 2 master from this has created the same problems, in the same places!!! Still drop outs and still those horrid red flashes filling the screen.  Not always as bad, and some places where there were problems are ok, but I am still left with most of the problems still there.
I am now trying to export the whole video as an AVI uncompessed but dont know if this will work and will take a very long time.
I do have Saphire plugins, but they are not being used in this new sequence so therefore could that be a possible problem?  I thought perhaps it was the brightness/contrast filter etc so removed that from some of the problem areas, and it helped on some of them, but not on others, so not sure its anything to do with my plug in or filters.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
    thanks, James

This topic is about a year old, but I thought I would reply because I just experienced this problem very recently and stumbled upon an easy solution.
Problem: When using Adobe Media Encoder to create an HD or .m2v video file, a bright red screen will flash followed by a mashup of red blocks/pixels somewhere within the file you've just encoded. This phenomenon lasts for exactly 10 frames before clearing up.  Most likely, you won't see this problem until you import the encoded file into Adobe Encore.  It shows up on the timeline, the preview monitor and the DVD itself. It occurs on edits that the system reads as being corrupt or when a flash bulb goes off from a still camera.  Both instances make the encoding process go haywire.
Solution: Encode your HD or .m2v file with CBR (1-pass) bitrate encoding rather than VBR (2-pass).  Don't worry about losing any quality in your video or creating unnecessarily large file sizes with your new renders. I guarantee you won't see much of a difference, if any.  I can't explain why this solution works.  It just does.
Hope this helps you as much as it did me.

  • Help me!:audio keeps dropping out and coming back in while importing clips

While importing from my camera (brand new Canon Xl-2) to imovie, the audio from the tape keeps dropping out and coming back in for some reason. This happens with all my tapes. I've tried using a head cleaner and that didn't help. I'm using a Maxtor external hard drive to save the project on. The project itself is kind of big (about 80 GB) Can imovie support projects that large? Could this be a problem with my processor?
I'm just frustrated beyond belief right now. Any help you can give would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!
these our my specs: Processor: 800 mhz. Memory: 1GB SDRam. The disk space icon at the bottom of imovie says i have 151 GB of disk space left.

    Hi e
With a slow computer one has to minimize the hassle.
    I would
    - repair permissions
    - cheque that nothing else is taking resourses from the job (energy saver,
    screensaver, File Vault etc.)
    - I would move material to my ext hd so that I got > 80Gb free (for a 80Gb
    project)
    - nothing else connected than my Mac + Camera and import.
    Yours Bengt W

  • When in googlemail firefox keeps connecting dropping out and reconnecting, and crashing.

When in googlemail inbox, Firefox constantly keeps dropping out and reconnecting,(as seen in the tab) and often crashes when one is writing or sending a message.

Try to start Firefox with the about:blank page by creating a copy of the current Firefox desktop shortcut and add a space and <b>-url "about:blank"</b> to the target field.
Try to delete the sessionstore.js file in the Firefox profile folder to prevent restoring the crashed session.

  • Is there a solution to the Bluetooth dropping out and disappearing on Lion 10.7.5?

Always drops out and disappears from preferences panel. There is a lot about this on the comunity but i have yet to discover a solution. Anyone?

You managed to place an item in the toolbar that has since been trashed. The solution is simple. Right click (or control click) on the toolbar and select Customize Toolbar... Now you can drag the question mark off the toolbar and release the mouse button. It will poof (disappear).

  • Repeated ADSL dropouts and low speed

I've drawn a blank here and I'm wondering if anyone has any suggestions?
Initially my connection was rated at somewhere between 7-10Mbps and it worked okay for just over a year at just shy of 10Mbps, but now I'm having problems.
A couple of weeks ago during the hot spell the connection kept repeated dropping, giving me a flashing broadband light on my homehub 3 Type A but the speed remained okay (about 7Mbps IIRC). Since then the drops have continued in bursts (sometimes it's okay for a day, other times it drops every few minutes for hours) and the speed has become increasingly worse to the point of barely usable.
Yesterday I was down to 4Mbps, today 2.5Mbps. Obviously I can't maintain a connection to gain an improved speed due to the dropouts.
I have the router connected directly to the master socket, I've tried a new filter, I've tried with and without the faceplate, I've checked the cable to the router and I've disconnected the phone and the sky box to rule those out. I've also left the router running with no devices connected to it whatsoever (wired or wireless) and it still loses its connection periodically. I can't think of anything external that would be affecting it that I've noticed, and I'm fairly confident I can rule out the weather because it's been going on longer than the current rainy spell.
The quiet line test gives me a very quiet line and calls are clean and clear when I phone people.
the latest stats taken from my homehub are:
    Connection Information
    Line state: Connected

Anything I might have missed? any suggestions?

Sorry if I caused any confusion there - this is the socket I have everything connected to (the only one in the house). previously it had a faceplate on it, but I removed that to see if it made any difference. It didn't.
The only thing that is currently connected is the homehub, via a filter. Previously a phone and a Sky+ box were connected, however I have disconnected them to see if it made any difference and only plugged the phone in for a couple of minutes to do the quiet line test.

  • Broadband dropping out, noise high, speed slow

Have had past problems with high noise, which seemed to have been solved by having the mods reset noise down (thanks) with line speed increasing up to around 2Mbps over the last couple of weeks (great from where I was previously).  See http://community.bt.com/t5/BB-Speed-Connection-Issues/Slow-broadband-downstream-line-speed/m-p/33081...
Tonight around 4:50pm (when all the kids in the neighbourhood have come back to their homes, and are playing online games) broadband drops out, noise jumps up to 22 from about 15 where it was previously I think, speed dramatically drops to less than 1Mbps.
Q1: Any idea how to get noise down again and speed back up?
Q2: Have I got a faulty hub that it keeps dropping out like this (hub is quite new)? Peculiar that it seems to happen at busy periods though - I've had this kind of drop out before, which is why I'm going straight to the forum.  I have already had broadband boost engineer out in the past and that makes me think it's unlikely there's anything wrong with my line.
Any ideas about solutions will be gratefully received!  (Just started working from home office today with 3 people - had thought I had us all on 2MB+ - but not now!)  Help!

  • Here we go again. My internet is dropping out and ...

I'm disabled seriously disabled my internet is actually my life.
Three four weeks ago I had a phone call about going onto the new  sytem, I was told it would cost no more then £2 a month and would be a massive difference to me. I said is that the total cost and they said nope you also have to pay £60 for an egnieer to come oiut and £30 for the modem.
I said at this time I just cannot afford this and the lady said oh come on your can afford that have you thought of cutting back on something, and I said I cannot live now and we are already cutting back, she then asked can you not get others to give you some money.
I ended up putting the phone down on this lady I know these people are on commission but this was getting ridiculous .
Since this phone call all I have had is my broadband dropping out four or five times a day and it obviously done to try and get me to change.
Now then I get £96 a week in ESA benefits to live on and pay my way the Internet to me is a luxury item one I'm struggling to pay for, the phone lines is expensive and the Internet is paid for by me cutting back on other things I cannot afford to pay more especially not an extra £90 and I dislike people trying to sell me something and telling me I should cut back.
Leave my Internet alone I've had my son replace all the lines and I've had a new filter, but your chap working on the phone lines three weeks go means my phone lines is now really noisy again. I cannot afford the new Internet system it to much for me ton pay for.
I've been with BT all my life actually all my life, and at sixty two now I do not want to change but if you force me to go I will.

I appreciate you may not be able to do some of the requests but maybe you can get some help from your son but in order for the forum members to help please can you post the adsl stats from your router you may need to 'show detail' to get all stats (if hub enter 192.168.1.254 in your browser and navigate to adsl or if HH4/5 then go to troubleshooting then logs and you are looking for 2 line together when hub last connected to internet and they will show your connection speed and noise margin or if netgear enter 192.168.0.1). Then run  btspeedtester  (MAC users may have problems). when first test completes then run diagnostic test and post the results ( do not reset the router).
are you connected directly via a filter to the NTE5 master or test socket or to somewhere else? Is the master the only phone socket in your home?
Have you tried the quiet line test? - dial 17070 option 2 - should hear nothing - best done with a corded phone. if cordless phone you may hear a 'dull hum' which is normal
