Sky Go Freezing on OS X

Hi everyone, We've been a Sky Customer for a while now and have been trying to use Sky Go on our computers at home as we only have one Sky+ HD box in the house. Sky Go works great apart from the repetative adverts even though you pay a fair price for Sky & Sky+ HD & that it keeps freezing up our MacBooks and my Mac Mini every 15 minutes while watching a film in full screen and not in fullscreen. The only way to fix this is the hold the power switch because it completely locks up the systems which are all completely updated. What makes it worse you can't download shows & movies to your computer without paying extra for Sky Go Extra, why should we pay extra for a service that isn't fully working on Macs in the first place?  OS X Mavericks has been out since October 22, 2013 and from what I've read up it's been a problem before Mavericks and it's not only us having the problems if you do a search but Sky insist that it is a new problem because of Mavericks and won't state when the fix will be implimented, it's understandable that more people use Windows based computers but it's not fair for paying customers with Macs to be put on the backburner with nothing to go on.  We're thinking of switching away from Sky because of all the problems we've been having with Sky Go & the broadband with DLM constantly kicking up our SNR with no hardware changed and the router hasn't moved (SR102) (noise margin as stated in the routers CP) which keeps making our connection unstable and our sync rates keep dropping. We live less than a mile away from our exchange it's just at the top of our road.  If someone from Sky can clear us up on Sky Go at least that would be a start.

Hi @pbgbklbtsbpab5
If you are using Mavericks like many of the other users then I'm afraid we won't be able to guarantee that we'll be able to resolve your query regarding Sky Go freezing.
If it's stuttering then a suggestion from with the steps below may resolve your query:-
Login to Sky Go, select and watch your movie/tv programme.
DO NOT switch to full screen mode
Let it play the adverts (have found that these are OK and stuttering starts when the movie begins)
Once the movie starts presss pause
Right-Click and select Silverlight
Select the Application Storage Tab
Uncheck box for Enable Application Storage
Click OK
Thanks,

  • Sky Go Freezing on Mac

Hello,Since I have had my mac I have been unable to watch anything from the Sky Movies section without it freezing after 20 or so minutes. I have seen other threads complaining of the same thing, with the conclusion being that Sky has had this issue for several years since OS Mountain Lion (!) but has not yet resolved it. If anyone has an alternative solution to this I would love to hear it - I think it is absolutely outrageous that full-paying customers are unable to use this feature at all if they have a mac, surely a fairly sizeable percentage of customers. As someone pursuing a career in the film industry, obviously Sky Movies and the awesome selection they have on demand on Sky Go was a big incentive for us sticking with Sky multiroom. Many thanks for any help receivedGabriel

Hi there I am having the exacg same problem and it is very annoying when trying to watch movies - i also find when it freezes and have to open up the movie again and click on resume - it fails to load! It is very annoying the way you can't email SKY instead of trying to call them which will take all day. Have you heard a way of trying to fix this?

  • Sky+HD box freezing

I am aware of the problems with freezing HD+ boxes in January, the correspondence seems to have died down now. However my box which is a Samsung still freezes every 5-7 days or so. I have done all the recommmended fixes but still have the problem, it looks like I am stuck with it?? I could get a new smaller Sky HD+ box, but in order to preserve my recordings I would need to tranfer my existing hard drive, can anyone confirm that this will solve the freezing problem. I am guessing that the problem lies in the hardware in the Samsung box, and not in the data on the drive. Thanks for any info.  Jim

Yes, this was a problem which affected some Samsung and Pace boxes and was largely resolved by a backend change which Sky implemented - hence the sharp drop in posts on the subject.
For those boxes still having the problem, Sky recommended a Planner Rebuild, and a Full System Reset (which would delete all your recordings). If there was still a problem, the advice was to call Sky. Subsequent posts highlighted that those customers were given a replacement Sky box to solve the problem.
Other Sky+HD boxes don't have the same freezing problem.

  • Sky F1 button freezing - New season same problem

Hello All I have been coming here every year since Sky picked up F1 and have problems every year with the red button freezing the box when I try to use it on F1 during race day etc. Normally it usually happens towards the end of the season especially when they are in USA, Brazil and Abu Dhabi - it ALWAYS works perfectly fine on practices and qualifiying, but the problems always occurs on race day. Every year the community staff say they have never heard of this problem before.....sigh. You will find many threads on this each year with promises that Sky will fix it and the season ends with us being promised it will be fixed for the new season. Last year I was advised by one regular contributor that Graeme personally was ensuring it would be fixed for this season and to have faith.....sigh....yet  I am back here again. What is very frustrating, its now started at Australia - I have never had this issue before at this early a stage. The red button has worked completely fine all weekend on the practices and qualifying until it came to the race. I press the red button and  it sits on blue screen for a while, then eventually gets to the black screen with Sky Sports F1 logo and a white outlined box in top left hand corner..........and that is it. If I press 1 I get to the main screen but subsequent pressings of red button or back up button does not take you to the red button menu, but ends up giving you the blue screen. If you try to back out of the whole red button thing, you get continued blue screen but if you are very lucky you may still get sound. Sometimes you can get a picture back by going to the Sky EPG and selecting a different channel that brings back the picture, then return to 407, or it will freeze altogether and you spend the next 20 mins having to do the usual plug out, plug in, wait 2 mins, start box up. I have done a Sky rebuild only as I dont want to spend the whole race messing around with software updates etc and that took 20 mins with no improvement whatsover. I also have cleared out any programmes in my Deleted programme section but I do that everyday anyway.. Through the years of threads, some are saying the software on my box cant handle the sky red button, but this is the box you gave me when I signed up for the HD & sky f1. If this is so, why are you providing hardware that is not fit for purpose? And now you seem to have got rid of Race control on the website I cannot see it online either, even though it it did used to be about half a minute between what was going on live. I got so excited when there was a software update a few weeks ago as I thought Sky were really keeping to their word and eventually fixing their F1 red button.....never mind...... So, for your records: Model: R010.070.58.17PVersion 4f3107

Mmmm I signed up for F1 through the HD pack. After reading other stories on this site as to how people have lost their F1 through Sky offers with little to no smallprint advising of the potential loss, then alleged underhand tactics by the phone customer service team, I did wonder whether the zero acknowledgement to this issue was the latest way to try and enforce a move over to the Sports package. For me that would be pointless as there is no way I can afford the Sports package - also I have absolutely no interest in football, cricket nor golf - I just love my F1. But, to be fair and to counter that, I have had this issue since F1 commenced with Sky in 2012 - a straight 4 years of issues that I had phoned, emailed and raised threads on this forum about. The Sky team previously stated any problem was just down to me and wanted me to fork out for an engineer. I refused this, as the engineer would never find anything unless they were willing to visit during the Sunday race in USA, Brazil or Abu Dhabi........and now Australia. Since this thread has commenced, in addition to rscott (Super user) providing input and confirming same issues, Annie (Sky Mod) has also acknowledged Sky are aware and working on the issues, through private email. I am so grateful to them both for providing a link and updates between the customer and the technicians. Now we have this first real acknowledgement of the problem, I am praying that they will seriously work on getting it fixed, because I would be hugely disappointed if after 4 years and the many threads that both myself, Pete and others have opened and had subsequently locked and quickly archived, they are still unable to resolve it. By the way I had the same issues as Pete that as I became frustrated at the lack of assistance in previous years,  that as well as the thread being locked, I found I couldnt access the community even though I could access other areas of my Sky account.I would be on a complete loop returning to the log in page and sometimes would even see the page saying it was diverting elsewhere and making out as if the Community site was down. Yet 2 minutes later under a new username with a new email address and sometimes using private browsing mode, I could log in easily, so I would question whether some people were "banned" from the site. Anyway, now there is this some progress,....onwards and upwards I say.......and lots of crossed fingers. :-)

  • Sky+ HD box unresponsive, slow and sometimes just freezes requiring a reboot/power off

Hi, I have a standard Sky+ HD box which must be a few years old now with the following specs: Model Number: R010.070.87.00PVersion Number: 9730B3Manufacturer: Samsung Recently the box has become really slow to respond to the remote control when either watching recordings or just live TV.  Also, frequently not responding at all after a period of time which resorts in a power down using the power off button and unplugging the mains, leaving for 30 seconds then plugging back in.  this issue seems to happen most whilst watching recordings although it has happened whilst watching live TV also. I appear to be running the latest software so these issues really all point to the recent code update. I have also performed several planner rebuilds with no affect/improvement at all. I've checked the batteries in the remote, which are fine and new. The box is in a well ventilated cupboard, stood on chocks to allow airflow all around the box. I rang Sky from work to report the issue and get help but the engineer could not help me unless I was in the same room as the box, so this is my next step to call them whilst at home. I wonder whether I can push this issue and get another box or a newer 2TB box gratis rather than having to pay the £150 fee.  this could be the tipping point to force me over to a different option such as Freesat or Nowtv etc This is so annoying and is going to make TV viewing over the christmas period a real pain for all the family. Thanks for any help and advise, Cheers, Jason

I'm getting the same problems with a Sky HD+ 1TB Amstrad DRX 895 - On power-up from cold it's OK, but the longer it's left on, even in standby, the slower it responds. Eventually it just hangs, and the problem is getting worse. I found that turning off HDMI Control in the Settings improved matter a bit (why does it default 'on'?), but that just delays the inevitable. At first I suspected a software problem, such as a memory leak that built up until it crashed the box, but the fact that it won't run properly after a reboot - even after powering off - unless it's left to cool down, suggests it's a hardware fault. Some previous Sky box models have had power supply problems when the box reaches a certain age - the capacitors start failing, causing the same kind of problems. I had such a box, and got a replacement power supply kit which fixed it. I think it's likely the newer boxes have this problem too - they're built with the cheapest components that don't last well. You might find the SatCure site can help - they have lists of repairers around the country who can fix Sky boxes or sell you DIY repair kits, or refurbished Sky boxes for less than a new one. I'm going to check out my local repairer.

  • IPad 2 Freezing and Dropping WiFi

Over the last few days my iPad 2 continuously freezes whilst watching things through iPlayer / Sky Go / 4 OD etc. Sometimes the WiFi will go completely and I need to switch back on.
I have checked our Internet and all is fine, tried using the apps via my iPhone 5 and had no problem whatsoever. The problem definitely lies with the iPad.
I have closed all Apps and restarted iPad a number on times but it continues to carry on in the same way.
iPad is fully charged, up to date with Software and has plenty of memory available.
Can anyone suggest what the problem might be and how to fix it?
    Thanks

This is Apple's official WiFi trouble-shooting page. You should waalk through the list trying it all.
In addition, you can try resetting your iPad by simultaneously pressing and holding the Home and Sleep/Wake buttons until you see the Apple Logo. This can take up to 15 seconds so be patient and don't release the buttons until the logo appears.
Try again to see if the problem persists.

  • 2014 macbook air freezing

My Macbook Air has has intermittent issues with freezing but recently it has gotten worse. It is freezing 3 times a day. I tried online support but nothing they suggested worked. I took it to the store last week. They could not replicate the issue. One guy said to reinstall the OS, another said that would not correct the issue. So, I brought it home and reinstalled the OS. Today it started freezing again. I called support and they began having me repeat all the previous steps. Does anyone have any idea how to resolve the issue?
The freezing is not related to any specific program.
    Thanks,
    Dana

If you are using the Sky Player software, it may be that this app is using up all you memory space and crashing the computer. How much memory do you have installed? Do you have other apps running at the same time? Are there settings in the Sky Player that can limit its demands?

  • Sky+ HD box keeps crashing

Hello everyone,  For the last couple of months now my 4 yr old Sky+ HD box keeps crashing. It will easier freeze on the TV guide or freeze on a channel, making it impossible to switch over to a different channel. The only solution I have to this is to switch off and then switch on again. The other issue that I am experiencing is that my series link and reminders regularly fail. Again, the only solution is to switch off and on again. A combination of these errors is happening every 3-4 days. can anyone offer any solutions. I am loathe to purchase a replacement box plus delivery at almost £200 when these are being given away for nothing to new customers. Many thanks

But of an update following my earlier post. A planner rebuild along with deleting my deleted programs is only a temporary fix, as is power off and on. The problems seem to come back within a few days. If anything, the issue seems to be getting worse. When it froze over the weekend it took 30 minutes to be able to get a picture back on my screen after switching the sky box back on. I have now tried a forced software update over the weekend and am hoping that it resolves the problem wore long term.
There is a notice on the help and support website from Sky which seems to be related to the problems many of us are experiencing, although not sure if over the same period. It says a fix should be available this week so it will be interesting to see what that is and whether that has been the root of everyone's problems.

  • B.T. Box - Resets, freezes, Constant Updates, etc....

The problems I have with B.T. are getting too annoying, what am I paying for? The following are a few of the problems:
Slow response from the remote control, so when you think it hasn’t registered you click it again and again, then, it catches up and does what you pressed twice or more.
T.V. box freezes so you have to reset the box which takes a few minutes at a time, which is annoying when watching live performances in particular.
Box updates itself when it wants, usually at inconvenient times, during a football match or other live performances.
When recording a programme it sometimes continues recording for hours, so later, when trying to record a different channel, it won’t because it can’t record 3 programmes at the same time.
When I was recording a series link of 8, the sixth recording, instead of recording the hour long programme I wanted, it recorded the news for half hour which wasn’t even at that time.
When trying to go back, the |< symbol, instead of going back 10 seconds it goes back to the start of when I turned to that channel.
This has mostly gone on since I’ve had the box and was rather hoping that with all these software updates I was getting that it would be put right. A couple of months ago I was talking to one of B.T. Customer (don't really) care people, and spent about 40 minutes doing a factory reset and was ASSURED that this would stop the slow response and that, “It will never happen again” but it does and is getting worse. So what I want to know is do other people have ALL these problems or is it my box and either way what will B.T. do about it? And I will not be accepting a factory reset as an answer again. I never had anything like this sort of problem when I was with Sky.<script src="safari-extension://com.ebay.safari.myebaymanager-QYHMMGCMJR/cc7e4548/background/helpers/prefilterHelper.js" type="text/javascript"></script>

    Hi retired58 and homerhotspur,
Thanks for posting. Sorry you’re having problems with the v-box resetting etc. Take a look at My BT TV box is slow and freezes for help with this. Let us know how you get on.

  • Problem with Airplay Mirroring - freezes screen on ATV whilst playing movies

Airplay Mirroring disfunctions when playing movies in Vuze, freezing screen on ATV, leaving sound only. I am using a Mac Pro running Mountain Lion. Has anybody experienced the same please?

    AdriHD wrote:
Reason I ask is that I work from home and I've copied all of my DVD's into iTunes.
What I was hoping to achieve would be able to work on the laptop whilst the movies stream (not on the laptop panel) but directly to the ATV?
If you are saying that you have converted video to AppleTV compatible h264 (discussing converting commercial DVDs is prohibited by Apple's rules) and added it to iTunes, you can do what you want without using Airplay at all.
With both AppleTV and Mac on the same network, and Home Sharing enabled on both (for AppleTV 2/3) you can simply stream from the computer to AppleTV under AppleTV's computers icon.  If you have a silver AppleTV1 you need to pair it to your iTunes library to achieve the same.
While your Mac does not support Airplay mirroring, iTunes has supported video Airplay to AppleTV 2/3 for a long time - it is different to mirroring and just pushes the stream rather than AppleTV pulling it.
Apple have blocked Airplay of DVD Player output via Airplay mirroring which is pretty poor.
For general desktop mirroring you might want to look at Airparrot:
    http://airparrot.com
Sky block Airplay from iOS, not sure if Apple allow blcoking of Airplay of certain things from the Mac in the same way as DVD player.

  • Sky drive uploading problem

When I uploaded some files like videos or mp3 the msg shows that ur file is more than 15mb can't be upload in sky dive. .... Now tell me. How can I upload more than 15mb file on sky dive....

Hi!,Many Thanks! 1) Version no; 9F3004        2) Model no;  R010.070.94.00P 3) The small window in the right side of the screen is still showing the current channel i was watching, the screen shows "sky channels" but no actual programme titles appear and the box becomes unresponsive, i have to press back-up and after waiting a few mins the box resets itself back to the "catch-up" page. 4) Just checked this now, and the answer is no, as soon as i went to sky channels, the box seems to freeze, i get the headings of types of programmes,Enfield,Entertainment,Drama,Comedy etc, but the programmes themselves do not appear and as you use the controller, you realise it has somehow frozen. 5) Literally just a couple of hours before the same problem arises, i have just done a planner rebuild and all seems to be working fine but i never know for how long,  puzzling thing  is it appears to be only the "sky channels" in the catch-up feature affected , which is what is most frustrating as i use this option the most.

  • My MacBook Pro won't read my WILCO, Sky Blue Sky cd

I have an unusual problem...My MacBook Pro won't open my WILCO, Sky Blue Sky cd. I've had to restart my laptop while pressing the mousepad down to eject the cd which keeps getting stuck whenever I insert it. I have burned this cd on my PC laptop and wondered if there's a certain "lock" on the cd after that but I've researched this scenario and found no mention of such a case online. Luckily, this is the only cd my MBP can't seem to read at all. Where other cd's I insert launch iTunes and appear on my desktop, this particular cd doesn't and it freezes iTunes if I test its Eject function on it. My disk utility can't read it either and puts it in a perpetual "Gathering disk information..." mode. Pls help...this is a legally purchased cd and I should be able to burn it on more than one computer I personally own...This is really strange as I've had no other problems with other cd's or dvd's on my Mac...

First, try one of the DVD drive cleaning kits that are available.

With my old 20cn line I had absolutely no issues with Sky Player running on full resolution, so I'm a little bit distressed that my supposedly better connection now causes it to run so badly.
Any chance of a mod taking a look at my account to see if anything can be done about this?  I've asked before but haven't had anyone reply yet.

You connection appears to be fine for streaming.
A couple of things to check.
How is your Xbox connected to your Hub, if wireless then tried wired.
Use the following program http://www.metageek.net/ select downloads and choose Inssider. Download to your PC and check for any other wireless signals, find out the channels they are broadcasting on and change your HUB if it conflicts with any. Note this will only help if your are connected wirelessly.
If your problem is not resolved with any of these, then it can only be down to possibly Sky, they have been heavily pushing Sky player and perhaps their servers are overloaded.

When I start skype and I login explorer.exe stops working, so the Desktop and the start menu freezes. I can do CTRL+ALT+DELETE and log off but I can't use the TaskManager to close skype so I have to click "Skype-->Sign Out" then explorer.exe (Desktop/start menu) starts working.
Before I had this problem all my contacts was offline and I was writing to a person I knew was online. Also my skype status was changed to the refreshing sky icon that shows up when you get disconnected from internet. This all started to happened right after I installed "Norton 2013" with license. and I also had another antivirus called "MalwareBytes" I have read many places that MalwareBytes did not make anny issues with other anti viruses and some time later I saw a few comments on Skype Community saying that it was a lie, so I uninstalled MalwareBytes and the contacts on skype was now online.
The weird thing is that before I installed Norton 2013 I had "Norton 360 2013" and it worked perfectly fine with MalwareBytes.

The problem you are having can still be related to AntiVirus.  It shouldn't but it can.  A/V scanners can be highly intrusive.  I would recommend removing/restoring to a previous state in which it was working.  I've had the Norton AntiVirus user edition bluescreen an old computer back in the day, removed it and installed the Business edition, and no such bluescreen.  That was enough to convince me to shy away from it back then.  It's usefulness as a real AntiVirus in any form, is the reason I don't use it today.  I generally believe the issues that people have are tied with what they have installed in their computer, running in the background or attached to their browsers.  Issues can still arise due to other incompatibilities, the Skype application is by no means perfect.
I'm running a similar setup on all my machines with 6.3 and I cannot replicate this type of problem or a Skype crash.  I generally don't use any add-ons or plug-ins, so I always question those.   Some people are able to resolve their issues with 6.3 by downgrading to another 6.x release.
