Sky had box cutting out frequently. Needs to reboot to restart?

My 13month old sky hd box keeps cutting out, so far six times this evening!  Some me times it auto reboots other times I have to power off/on to reboot the machine. It had the sam e problem two months ago and the sky technician changed hdmi control to 'off'.  Ive checked the hdmi control is set too 'off'.  Ill call sky to a technician out again but any suggestions in the mean time would be appreciated.  Thanks ps. The box and TV are plugged in to the same power block so I know it's not a power supply issue.

Hi i used to have the same problem and had to keep refreshing the software. To fix it i had to finally refresh the software one last time by unpluging the box for a while then reconnecting and turning the box back on while holding the backup button until the 3 lights turn on in the front panel. As soon as the box turns back on i had to go into the planner and delete all the old programmes i didnt want. it was just over half full and that left me with a quarter used. then goto the deleted tab and delete all the programme back ups,. that tab had filled up the remaining hard drive space. coupled with the auto downloads sky does to add programmes to on demand that have the available option the space had been over used. It all stated after the update to retrieve deleted programmes. Theres no need to format the hard drive and lose everything if you do as above and emptying the deleted tab once a week or so prevents it from happening again.

  • Screen has cut out, desperately need help!

The screen on my iMac has cut out. It has happened before and I have had to restart the system to get it back. This time however that hasn't worked. I have booted up the system and can access the files using a second machine via ethernet and the screen did come back briefly when I pressed the ctrl ket before going blank again. I am pretty sure it is not a hardware problem but desperately need a suggestion to help recover the situation.

When I start the machine the screen briefly goes white after the startup chime then goes black again. The same thing happens when I do command-R. The system continues to boot up and I can access the files from my other machine. On two or three ocasions the screen has momentarily come on when I have touched a key or the mouse. For a brief second everything looks OK then it is gone again.

  • Wireless Cutting Out Intermittently-- fine on reboot.

Problem with my Macbook... it's running OSX 10.4.9
Frequently when using my Macbook, the wireless internet will randomly cut out. Not when I'm doing anything different than usual, it'll just stop working, despite saying that the signal is at full strength and is still connected to our wireless.
It's not a problem with our ISP since no one else in the house ever has this problem... and upon reboot, everything functions normally again, the internet works just fine. (For a few hours, tops... until I have to reboot YET AGAIN...)
HELP, I'm sick of rebooting my computer once every few hours for the sake of retaining my internet

SInce this is a Tiger problem, I suggest reposting in the appropriate Tiger forum. WiFi on Leopard is very different from that on Tiger.

  • Bluetooth cutting out during calls

Am having issues with my bluetooth (plantronics 320) cutting out while on calls. i have a treo 680 and the bluetooth cuts out frequently. have used other bluetooths and have had the same problem. the bluetooth does not disconnect just cuts out, if i hang up and call right back it works fine. anybody else having this problem

It sounds like the Bluetooth headset is not compatible with the device. To be sure check this list: http://kb.palm.com/wps/portal/kb/na/treo/680/att/solutions/article/41198_en.html.
Another possibility could be the headset itself is not working correctly. By any chance can you test this headset with another phone or Treo?

  • Homehub wireless cutting out regularly, PLEASE HEL...

we recently upgraded to a newer black model of the homehub after having an original white one for a few years,
ever since the upgrade the wireless cut's out randomly throughout the day and the only way to rectify the problem is to click restart on the home hub or unplug it and plug it in again.
My sister and I both have macbook pros and know how to work the airport and find the home hub and put in the wireless key. they cut out at the exact same time so it isn't a problem to do with laptop location or one computer not working it's the home hub at fault.
as we don't have windows we can't download the desktop help.
there is also no speakers, telephones or anything that could interrupt the signal within five feet of the hub to my knowledge.
restarting seems to solve the problem for a couple of hours maximum this can be very tedious as the home hub is in my dad's bedroom and he has to restart it which makes it impossible without waking him up throughout the night
and work cannot be done online
if anyone has had a similar problem and can help it would be very much appreciated! I believe we shouldn't be paying for a non existant service.
I don't know much about IPs or routers so layman's terms please!!
oh also the wireless and BT vision box cut out when the phone is answered but after a couple of minutes of the phone being picked up or hung up they go back to normal, not sure if that helps.
thank you to anyone that can help in advance

there is a program inssider which shows the broadcasting networks round about you which may be interfering with your wireless signal but in does not work with a mac.  you can enter 192.168.1.254 in your browser and enter the hub manager then navigate to wireless and try changing the channel by going from auto to manual and selecting another channel - trial and error but 1, 6 and 11 are the most popular.  you can also change from b/g/n to b/g which might help

  • I'm a drummer, when I got the 4s and tried to listen to music and drum to it the music would keep cutting out. It also happens when a door is slammed when I'm in the car.

I'm a drummer, when I got the 4s and tried to listen to music and drum to it the music would cut out frequently, it also happens when a door is slammed when I'm in the car. I didn't have this issue with my previous apple products and it doesn't seem to happen to others with the 4s. Is there a known way to stop this?

I suggest trying the update again after an hour or two.  Sometimes, the notice that an update is available comes an hour or two before the developers actually sends the revised app out to be downloaded.

  • How to produce a cut out?

As a newbie to Illustrator I'm having a problem trying to work out how to produce a rectangle with a curved cut out as per this image. The cut out portion needs to be transparent for me use as a picture overlay. Could someone please advise what I am sure is a simple procedure?
    Thanks in advance.

    Hi Jayne,
Here's a couple of options for you
    Option 1
    1. Draw your rectangle
    2. Choose the pen tool and click on the rectangle centre left, this will add a new point
    3. Using the arrow keys on your keyboard nudge the new point to the right
    4. Clicking on and holding on the pen tool in the tools panel will reveal the Convert Anchor Point tool, choosing this and dragging in a vertical direction over your new point will convert it to a curved point.
    Option 2
    1. Draw your rectangle
    2. Draw an oval over top that represents the curved area to be cut out
    3. Open the Pathfinder Panel (Window > Pathfinder)
    4. With both rectangle and oval selected choose Minus Front from the Pathfinder panel
    Hope that helps
    Paul

  • The music stations on my Apple TV are cutting out.  Any suggestions on how to fix this?

The music stations on my Apple TV are cutting out frequently.  Any suggestions on how to fix this?

Intermittent problems are often a result of interference. Interference can be caused by other networks in the neighbourhood or from household electrical items.
You can download and install iStumbler (NetStumbler for windows users) to help you see which channels are used by neighbouring networks so that you can avoid them, but iStumbler will not see household items.
Refer to your router manual for instructions on changing your wifi channel or adjusting your multicast rate.
There are other types of problems that can affect networks, but this is by far the most common, hence worth mentioning first. Networks that have inherent issues can be seen to work differently with different versions of the same software. You might also try moving the Apple TV away from other electrical equipment.

  • AirTunes cut-outs with wired network (solved)

To whom this may be helpful,
There are several discussions about Music cut-outs when using the AirTunes, but all of these discussions were focussing on a wire-less connection.
In my case, however, I have a wired Ethernet connection from my Mac to a 4-port-router, to which the AirPort Express is also connected. I got the first cut-outs about a year ago and it has been gradually getting worse, up to the point where it would cut out after every 5-10 seconds, pausing for 5 seconds. This is when I gave up using AirTunes.
Next, nothing much happened until I noticed a few weeks ago that my network had become notoriously slow. I first suspected a degrading ADSL connection, but I changed my mind when my router died. It turns out that my network performance was gradually degrading due to problems in my router (probably bad memory, forcing it to drop packages when the checksums were incorrect).
After having replaced the router, the network is up and running again as before and AirTunes runs smoothly again. With that in mind, you might like to test other units in your network!
    Mac G4   Mac OS X (10.4.9)

I buyed 2 of the Airport Extreme, never got them working fine, till yesterday...
I have A Zyxel ADSL WLAN Router Switch. WPA-PSK as I wanted a secure Network. Both of the AX were connected with static IPs. WLAN was always working fine, but I had many cut outs with airtunes. I wanted a solution with lossles streaming audio with the possibility to connect my Receiver digitally. That's why I bought my first Apple hardware, as I was always told, Apple=Plug'n play. Very frustrating!
I tried other switches, Routers, WLAN adapters and cards, nothing worked. Airfoil does not support multiple speakers yet, so it's useless for me.
In the FAQ of the Airtunes, Apple mentioned to use lower security, as some Computers probably do not have enough power to stream music flawlessly. But my Computers really do have enough power! I think the AX does not have enough power to do that. So I created another wireless network with one of my AX. I set the security to WEP-40bit key and joined this new Network with my other AX. Not the best solution, as I'm now connected to the Internet or to the AX to use Airtunes. Cables could fix that problem, but then I could use a wired system instead...
I use Channel 11 for the AX WLAN (the only clean channel in my area), Multicast to 11, only G mode for Wireless and a 5 characters WEP-40 key and no WDS. Seems to work at the moment.
I hope this will help others with the cut or drop out problem

  • IPhone 3GS keeps cutting out mid conversation - anyone else?

I got my first iPhone around four months back. No one could hear me on the first handset, so I returned it. I couldn't hear anyone with the second handset, so returned that. The third one worked like a dream...until...the 4.0 upgrade came along.
Now it cuts out mid conversation and reboots itself, sometimes after two minutes, sometimes after five. If I'm lucky I can hit 10 minutes before it crashes.
I've got my forth handset arriving next Wednesday, but as a business user I find it ridiculous that Apple have created such a rubbish product. Buck your ideas up Apple! We pay a fortune for your products in the UK, and your reputation is getting badly damaged by your shoddy phones.
Anyone else having the same issues with your iPhone?

you might want to actually read some other posts in this forum, as many do have the same problem.
    http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=2471090&tstart=0&start=1230
    suggestions are :
Dont make calls in low cell signal zones of more than 5 minutes,
Switch off the Spotlight Search options under the General Settings,
Switch off wifi, 3G, bluetooth before making a call,
kill all "multi-tasking" apps before talking to anyone.
Jailbreak using the web-based option if you have not installed iOS4.02.

  • Sony STR-DN1040 audio cuts out briefly, frequently

Audio on my new Sony STR-DN1040 cuts out whan SAT/CATV is the source. This happens frequently (every 30 seconds to a minute, unpredictably), though it is only for a fraction of a second each time.
When the audio cuts out, the following items on the front display panel of the receiver all flash off momentarily:
    A.P.M.Dolby Digital SymbolD.L.L.
When I reconnect the cable box directly to the TV instead of the receiver (same HDMI cable), the audio issue goes away. I have tried resetting/clearing the receiver. Any thoughts/suggestions?

Thanks again for your suggestions! They are much appreciated.
I have noticed that the problem is apparent on some TV channels more than others. Some channels seem to cause the audio drop and other channels don't.
I have now tried attaching my Blu-Ray player to the SAT/CATV port using the same HDMI cable. The problem was not apparent (but I haven't noticed the issue with the Blu-Ray source previously, so perhaps that helps rule out the SAT/CATV port).
I also tried attaching the cable box/PVR to the BD port and the problem was still present (as mentioned earlier, mostly present on certain channels).
The software is up to date as of last week (ver. s9327.1074.0).
I also tried powering off and disconnecting everything, then reconnecting and powering everything on in the described order. The issue is still present, regardless of the HDMI input port that I use. As mentioned before, this happens only when I route the SAT/CATV signal through the receiver. When I bypass the receiver, by connecting the cable box/PVR directly to the TV, the audio does not cut out on the usual affected channels.

  • I had to wipe out my laptop, I am waiting to get my serial number back. I need to know how I download Logic Pro 9 with the codes I already have.

I had to wipe out my laptop, I am waiting to get my serial number back. I need to know how I download Logic Pro 9 with the codes I already have.

If you bought the boxed set of Logic Studio 2.0  which includes LP9, then you cannot  download it. You must use the disks that came as part of the boxed set... to install from.
If you bought the App Store version of Logic Pro 9 then go to the Mac App Store App,  Sign into the Store using the same Apple ID you used to purchase LP originally, look under the Purchase Tab and you shouldl find LP9 ready and waiting for you to download and install.

  • How do I make a laser cutting out text. I need this to look like sheet metal.

I need to create an animation of a company logo being cut out by a laser, like a laser cutting out words on sheet metal. Anyone know how I could do this?
Also before you reply to this post please know that I am definetely a novice in after effects, so anyone who is going to suggest or post a tutorial for me to follow, please make it a video or include pictures. I had one guy in a previous post send me a link to a project folder I could download. I had no idea what I was looking at. I couldn't find the after effects file or even the tutorial he was talking about.

Create text in Illustrator. Export as single path (advanced AI skills required). Import path into AE. Apply path to solid layer as mask information. Apply Beam effect (or similar like Lightning or Advanced Lightning). Apply mask path to one of the the effect's End Points.
Copy layer. Turn off or delete Beam effect and apply your choice of CC particles. Parent the end point of the particle to the endpoint of the Beam effect.
Duplicate the layer again and change the particle to smoke. Duplicate again and add Lens Flare to the end point path and the Unmult.
You use parenting (or a more elegantly applied set of expressions) all the way down the line so any changes you make to the original timing and positioning are reflected in all downstream effects.
The magic of this hackneyed visual effect lies not in the beam or sparks or text. It's in the finesse and elegance you use to remove the waste metal, apply a glow to the hot metal edge, add smoke, and change the direction and pattern of the sparks to simulate a cutting torch or a laser or a science fiction ray gun. If you go 3D, you can animate the camera to follow the cutting beam.
Dean Valez's site used to have a lovely example of this effect. His contribution was to have the background sheet of metal hesitate and then topple toward the camera, leave the bottom of the frame and crash hard enough to shake the camera and raise a cloud of dust. He was a master at adding special touches that elevated the sequence above the ordinary.

  • Need a little help simplifying an image so it can be cut out on a vinyl cutter

Hi all, I'm after a bit of help.
I'm wondering if I get hold on of say an image of a car, could I have this converted to black and white and then delete parts of it so that it can be cut out on a vinyl cutter?
When converting it, I would like most of the image deleted but to keep the rough outlines and some shading etc so the image looks great and can be cut out on a cutter.
I know I'm not explaining this too well but I hope you can understand what I mean.
    Many thanks,

You might be in for quite a bit of work if you want to convert an image of a car to something that can be cut on a vinyl cutter and successfully turned into cut vinyl graphics. Not only do the resulting paths need to be clean, but all the line work must be large/thick enough in order to be successfully cut on the vinyl cutter and weeded by hand before applying release tape. Really thin line work can get chewed up by the plotter blade or it can get messed up when you're trying to weed away the negative vinyl areas of the cut graphics.
The current live trace filter in Illustrator is not vinyl cutter friendly. The problem is it produces too many small objects that are too small to cut and it makes objects that are really stroked, open path segments. Vinyl cutting requires all of the paths to be closed. Sometimes I'll have better luck using the "Create Work Path" function in Photoshop for this sort of thing. Take a high contrast black and white or grayscale image, use the Color Range dialog box to create a selection and then use the Create Work Path command. It typically generates paths that are all closed. After that you do a little editing work to get rid of tiny objects too small to cut. Go to the File menu and select Export Paths to Illustrator.
For the best results you have to digitize the paths by hand. It goes much faster if you have a graphics tablet.
