Sky hd box interference with laptop

Hi Everyone I am having a rather odd problem , we have 2 sky hd boxes , 1 downstairs and 1 upstairs both are connected to the internet via wi-fi , we also have a multitude of devices that also use the internet via wi-fi in the house like ipods laptops x-box desktop computer and mobiles  , the problem is when the laptop is being used the sky hd box UPSTAIRS  loses connection and i get an error message saying cannot support hdcp ??? this only happens with these 2 devices , i can be on my mobile , the xbox can be on and the UPSTAIRS box can be fine , or i can be on the laptop and the DOWNSTAIRS box is fine but soon as we are UPSTAIRS watching telly and the laptop goes on ...bang we lose the connection and get this error message..... any help ????

Hi  it's been a while, I know, but have you managed to fix this? If so, how did you do it?
If not, it's something Sky may want to do some work on, so can you tell us:
Your Sky+HD box model number (Services > Settings > Details)
The make & model of TV
Other than your Sky box, what other equipment do you have connected to the TV's HDMI ports?
Does unplugging them correct the issue?
Thanks for your help.

  • Can sky+ HD box interfere with the internet?

I have been having problems with my internet for about 4 weeks, 6 weeks ago I got sky with a sky+ hd with recording etc.
So for 2 weeks it seemed fine but I am starting to doubt it.
My internet cut off exactly 8pm tonight which is when I had the box to automatically record something, low and hehold when the program stopped recording my internet came back on.
It doesn't seem to be a problem when the tv is just on, more a recording and i am not sure it does it every time.
Has anybody else had problems like this before?
I am experimenting to see if I can make it drop at the moment from recording etc but it may take a while.
Oh yeah and to add, it is not plugged into the phone socket and never has been.
    Cheers

    Hi mearlam
I have had SKY+ HD for years and have certainly not had any problems with it affecting the broadband.
As its not connected to the phone line, then no filters are needed.
One thing maybe to look at, is are you connecting wirelessly. If so is the HomeHub close to the SKY Box. If so, maybe move it further awy incase there is any electrical interference.

  • Satellite A200- Interfacing with Sky HD box, via the i.Link on my Notebook.

    Satellite A200-1VP
I'm trying to find away of recording to my Notebook's DVD drive, from my SKY HD boxs harddrive, So I can copy recorded programmes from the Sky harddrive on to DVD discs.
But do not have an HDMI interface port, only the AVI & VGA out, which is not a digital input, only the other signal output as we understand.
So I was thinking about using the i.Link (IEEE 1394a) port, as this was designed to send DVD camcorder date to the Notebook to be recorded ? wouldn't the DVD camcorder be sending a Digital signal and if this is so, shouldn't this work in that way ? is there a device or cable on the market that I could use to make the interface possible do this ?
I've looked at cable's, through out the internet but cant seem to find a HDMI to i.Link (IEEE 1394a) there are plenty of USB to i.Link (IEEE 1394a), but seem to be under the impression that the USB 2 can not deliver the date at a fast enough speed for this to work..
Any ideas would be of help thanks.

Why you don't speak with your local dealer and experts for this?
If you don't have adequate port on your notebook you must search for other external solution.

  • Sky HD box keeps losing signal but is fixed with a power cycle

Hi all, I'm having issues with my Sky HD box. Every day  (recently), I'm having to powercycle the box to get a signal. After the power recovery the signal is fine, so I think the dish is fine. It's seems the the box is losing signal while it's on stand by mode. Any ideas? Thanks in advance Jason

I had this problem too but in the end the solution was for Sky to come out and replace the dish and LNBs, since when the signal has been perfect. I would check what signal strength you are getting - I believe it's in the settings menu.

  • Multi room with 2 Sky+ HD boxes

We have multi room with one old silver box (which you can record on but it doesn't have 'on demand' options etc that the newer Sky+ HD box has) & one newer box. Both boxes are in the lounge & we then have magic eyes around the house. If we upgrade the old box to a sky+ hd box too how would we change the channel on one box without upsetting the other box? Is there a way around this? THANKS

Sky won't be able to set 2 hd+ boxes up the way u require. U will need 2 I/o links and a super+ combiner to do what u require.  If u are doing it ur self I recommend using triax I/o links and a global spc4f combiner. If u are unsure of how to set it up I then best to use a local aerial/satellite company as sky engineers are not trained in this set up nor do they supply the right equipment for what u need.

  • Qosmio G30-116: How to connect the Sky Digital box to watch TV?

I just recently purchased the Qosmio G30-116 on the understanding that I can connect my Sky digital to the laptop (somehow) and watch and record sky on the laptop
    * note: I am not using freeview or normal TV I am using SKY DIGITAL *
usint the supplied converter cable to connect to the video-in on the laptop (video in is like a headfone jack and the converter converts from this to female RCA)
I have plugged it into the laptop then connect a 3 RCA to SCART to it and then into the sky box, when setting up the TV section in Windows Media Centre I follow the instructions until it gets to the point where it scans for a signal, (previous to that I get asked what kind of signal I receive, I select digital but have tried all combinations,) but it doesn't find a signal.
Now I have been told that Windows Media Centre does not support Analogue input and that the connection between the sky box and the laptop is analogue.
Is this correct or not? then, while typing this I have been told by someone else that my laptop is not capable of receiveing SKY DIGITAl as it can't decode it or something. Is this also correct? If not, what am I doing wrong and can anyone help me get this going? And have I been going about this the right way or am I totally up the wrong path if laptop is capable of it?

    To start qosmio player
1.switch off computer using on/off blue lit on/off button to close windows operation.
2.make sure that the computer/windows is switch off
3.Now Touch the TV icon (Blue lit button)only or the DVD player ICOn (blue lit button)only. WITHOUT USING THE USUAL ON/OFF SWITCH
4.The qosmio player/engine will switch on instantly without booting windows.
5.TV will launch within 8 seconds and the same for DVD player
6.Pres F1 or F2 for further functions such as screen size,audio,forward.rewind.pause scanning the TV channnels (auto or manual)
7.You can do the same i.e open the qosmio player/TV with the supplied Toshiba/qosmio remote pressing the Live TV button ONLY for instant TV on or DVD menu ONLY for instant DVD player/CD player on WITHOUT USING THE ON/OFF SWITCH ON THE REMOTE.That is very much similar to a standard TV remote just press the TV or dvd menu .
8.If you touch the same icon buttons i.e TV and dvd player during the standard computer usage /windows operating system,IT WILL LAUNCH THE MEDIA CENTER BY DEFAULT.that's what happen to you!
I use the remote from my bed before going to sleep and the same from bed to watch early morning TV news
Qosmio is excellent for the versatility!
    Enjoy

  • TV causes interference with powerline adapter

I just had infinity installed and I have a problem with my powerline adapters, which is next to the TV (it is for the sky+ box for sky go). The powerline adapters are TP-Link tl-pa211 and the TV is a Panasonic th-37px70b.
When the TV is on, the maximum I can get through the ethernet powerline is 14mb/s, but if the TV is off or on standby I can get close 40mb/s (i.e. the maximum on the broadband line). The TV is on a wall bracket so it is difficult to move.
    I have tried:
TV in room 1 connected to socket in room 1 and powerline in room 1 - 14mb/s when tv is on, 40mb/s when tv is off/standby.
TV in room 1 connected to socket in room 1 and powerline in room 2 - 40mb/s constantly.
TV in room 1 connected to socket in room 2 and powerline in room 2 - 40mb/s constantly.
TV in room 1 connected to socket in room 2 and powerline in room 1 - 14mb/s when tv is on, 40mb/s when tv is off/standby.
It seems it is the actual TV that is directly causing the interference with the powerline adapater, not the TV causing interference in the electricity line. I'm not sure how it can interfere directly.
Has anyone had anything like this before or is the TV just faulty?

Thanks for you reply. I have tried the TV connected directly to the socket and the powerline connected to a seperate twin socket about 1 meter away and I still get the problem when the TV is on. Also, I have connected the TV to a power socket on the other side of the house with a extension cord while not actually moving the TV and the powerline adapter connected to a socket near the TV and this still gives the same problem when the TV is on. And then, with the TV still on the extension cord to the otherside of the house, I connected the powerline to the same twin socket as the extension cord and this produced no problems.
So, it must be the physical proximity of the TV with the powerline adapter that is causing the problem. So could the TV be emmitting some frequency that is interfering with the powerline adapter?
I actually use a wireless powerline adapter (TP-Link TL-WPA281) in the socket, but for testing this problem I use the non-wireless version (TP-Link TK-PA211). And according to this thread, the BT Hub 3B isn't compatible with wireless extenders. Why is upgrading to infinity so annoying?

  • How to Connect Nokia 2330 Classic with laptop or p...

    Hi All
I just bought my new nokia 2330 last week, when i try to connect my 2330 classic with my laptop the phone is not detacting.Pls help me in this regard. We connet 2330 with laptop or pc with cable or not???
    - Shree

    Hi all.
First and all, be aware that there are dozens of Nokia phones, and all have different specifications. If someone buys a phone to take pictures, then the 2330C is a bad choice. The port that the device has, is not a USB port. It is a Nokia proprietary port for service only.
@shreeg and others with similar issues (altough this is late): check for Bluetooth compatibility first at http://europe.nokia.com/support/download-software/pc-suites/compatibility-and-download
@mojojo and others with similar issues (altough this is late): troubleshoot your laptop and mobile phone Bluetooth. Check if your BT drivers are compatible with Nokia suites. Test them with other BT devices (i.e. BT headset, other phone). Also test the pairing at a different location. BT is a radio wave based connection which can suffer from external interference caused by other radio waves emitting devices, or by electromagnetic or electrostatic fields nearby (these are caused by almost anything that runs on electric power)
@everyone: my advise is for you to check the following web page for info on device specs http://www.forum.nokia.com/Devices/Device_specifications/matrix_all_1.html to know which type of local connections are available on the devices. It's on the "Local connectivity" section.

  • Giving my Sky HD box to someone else

I've recently left Sky, so no longer need my sky HD box, it's an Amstrad DRX890. I'm based in the UK.
My sister in the Republic of Ireland has sky and one of the old white sky plus boxes.
If I send my sky HD box over to her, will it work for her? Can she simply put her viewing card into it, connect and power it up?
    Thanks.

Yes, it should work fine. Your sister will need to link ('pair') her Viewing Card with your Sky+HD box. She should be able to do that online here or failing that, by giving Sky a call.

  • Recording dvds onto an imac from a Sky HD box

    Dear apple afficionados
We have recently installed a Sky HD box and have recorded quite a few programmes that I would like to record onto DVD to keep permanently. We do not have a DVD recorder but my imac has a DVD recording facility. Is it possible to transfer the programmes from the Sky box onto the imac? If so, what equipment would I need? By the way, I am not a very technical minded person but would be willing to have a go if the instructions are easy to follow.
Thanks in advance for any advice - even to say it isn't possible.
    Anne

    Hi
Unfortunately, cable and satellite boxes generally encrypt their contents to prevent you making the kind of copies you're talking about. It's possible that some of the programs are unencrypted; you could locate your box's model number (it's probably manufactured by a third party, not Sky themselves) and see if there are any online forums with information about it.

  • Watching bt sport using a sky + hd box

Currently i have the bt broadband/phone /tv package with a vision + box recieving standard broadband as fibre is not yet available where i live.My question is this.........I have a sky + hd box from when i used to have sky(im no longer a sky customer) and i would like to know if i can watch bt sport through this sky box so i can watch the sport in hd quality rather than the patchy picture i get now through the ariel.I still have my old sky viewing card in the sky + box but would it still be active/recognised by sky?
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

You need to cancel sports on your box and then ask for it to be activated on Sky which will start a new contract. You need to do this by phone however as I found when I took this route,

  • Sky+ HD box keeps crashing

Hello everyone,  For the last couple of months now my 4 yr old Sky+ HD box keeps crashing. It will easier freeze on the TV guide or freeze on a channel, making it impossible to switch over to a different channel. The only solution I have to this is to switch off and then switch on again. The other issue that I am experiencing is that my series link and reminders regularly fail. Again, the only solution is to switch off and on again. A combination of these errors is happening every 3-4 days. can anyone offer any solutions. I am loathe to purchase a replacement box plus delivery at almost £200 when these are being given away for nothing to new customers. Many thanks

But of an update following my earlier post. A planner rebuild along with deleting my deleted programs is only a temporary fix, as is power off and on. The problems seem to come back within a few days. If anything, the issue seems to be getting worse. When it froze over the weekend it took 30 minutes to be able to get a picture back on my screen after switching the sky box back on. I have now tried a forced software update over the weekend and am hoping that it resolves the problem wore long term.
There is a notice on the help and support website from Sky which seems to be related to the problems many of us are experiencing, although not sure if over the same period. It says a fix should be available this week so it will be interesting to see what that is and whether that has been the root of everyone's problems.

  • Sky+HD box freezing

I am aware of the problems with freezing HD+ boxes in January, the correspondence seems to have died down now. However my box which is a Samsung still freezes every 5-7 days or so. I have done all the recommmended fixes but still have the problem, it looks like I am stuck with it?? I could get a new smaller Sky HD+ box, but in order to preserve my recordings I would need to tranfer my existing hard drive, can anyone confirm that this will solve the freezing problem. I am guessing that the problem lies in the hardware in the Samsung box, and not in the data on the drive. Thanks for any info.  Jim

Yes, this was a problem which affected some Samsung and Pace boxes and was largely resolved by a backend change which Sky implemented - hence the sharp drop in posts on the subject.
For those boxes still having the problem, Sky recommended a Planner Rebuild, and a Full System Reset (which would delete all your recordings). If there was still a problem, the advice was to call Sky. Subsequent posts highlighted that those customers were given a replacement Sky box to solve the problem.
Other Sky+HD boxes don't have the same freezing problem.

  • Fix low volume output on Sky HD Boxes

Here a suggestion for you. Why dont you fix the low volume out on the Sky HD boxes? Loads of people have complained about it. Do something about it.

I have finally found a very cost effective solution to this problem.  Cancelled Sky subscription and got Freesat with a Humax box.  This does not have the fault that the Sky HD boxes have.  In fact it has an "on the remote" volume control, and when this is turned to max the volume is exactly as it should be.  The volume control works both the HDMI and the analogue outputs.  Additionally there is also a mute button on the remote, again muting both outputs.  Perfect.  Cost effective because since I have been a Sky subscriber for over a decade, now cancelled, assuming I would have stayed with them for another decade I have saved myself £4121 including the initial cost of the Freesat box.  Quite a shocking amount of money that I will be saving, having calculated it.  Shame on Sky for not correcting this software issue when it was first reported by many users, especially as the volume function used to be there and they removed it.  For those thinking of doing the same as me, the Freesat / Freetime system is excellent, the EPG is as good as Sky and the "roll back" TV aspect of the EPG far superior to that of Sky.  Picture quality is at least as good (probably better as box is Full HD)  The BBC iplayer implementation is also not the "cut down" version thst Sky have also implemented (another software short cut that bugged me), i.e. it is the same as you'd see on your PC / smart TVs with FULL programme content.  What you don't get is Sky Atlantic but since I never watched this in over a decade made no difference to me.
