Sky+HD light on my Sky hub is continually blinking

Sky+HD light on my Sky hub is continually blinking how do I fix this or what is the problem?

Hi there, Bit of a bump on this post, but the first I spotted that has the same issue. Our SR102 Hub has a Sky +HD box light that blinks, even when neither of the boxes (1 Wired in front room/ 1 Wireless in bedroom) are in use or switched on. What is that all about then ? Being able to switch off the lights would be of benefit, so as not to catch this blinking out the corner of your eye when enjoying a Box Set or movie at night. Is there anything that can be done to fix this glitch?

I have just got an Apple Airport time capsule to back up my one year old iMac......how do I do it? I have tried putting an ethernet cable into the time capsule and to my sky hub, all I get is a flashing amber light, can anyone help I am a silver surfer not used to Apple products, but love them, plus I don't understand half of the jargon....HELP please

Apple's Setup Guide for the Time Capsule is pretty simple and clear for most users, and you don't indicate at what point or step that you are getting stuck.
So, please go to page 8 in your Setup Guide to review the topic of Plugging In Your AirPort Time Capsule.
The Sky hub will likely have 4 Ethernet <--> ports on the back of the device. Pick any one that you want and connect one end of the Ethernet cable to the port that you choose.
Then, connect the other end of the Ethernet cable to the WAN (circle of dots) port as shown in the Setup Guide.
Continuing with the instructions on page 8 of the Setup Guide, power up the Time Capsule by connecting the power cord from the back of the Time Capsule to a wall AC jack.
Note that the instructions indicate that the indicator light will be solid amber during startup, and it will change to blinking amber during the setup. The light will remain blinking amber until you have configured the Time Capsule at which time the light will turn green.
Next, go to page 12 of the Setup Guide to see the information to Use your Mac or iOS device to set up your AirPort Time Capsule.
You indicated in your tag line that you were using OS X Mountain Lion (10.8.3), and since that will exceed the minimum requirement of a Mac using OS X (10.7.5) as noted in the guide, you can use your Mac to set up the Time Capsule.
Continuing with the instructions on page 12 of the Setup Guide......
    1. Open AirPort Utility on your Mac.  It is located as follows:  Finder (the smiley face on the dock) > Applications > Utilities > AirPort Utility
    2. Select your AirPort Time Capsule and click Continue. You won't be able to do this, but read further......If you do not see the AirPort Time Capsule that you want to configure, choose it from the WiFi status menu in the menu bar, at the top of the screen.
So, clicking on the WiFi icon will yield a small window that looks like this:
The example below shows an AirPort Extreme.  You will see Time Capsule on your screen. Click on Time Capsule.
When you click on Time Capsule, that will get the setup wizard going. it will take a minute to analyze the network, then display a screen that looks similar to the illustration below, except that you will see a picture of a Time Capsule on your screen
    3. Continuing with the Setup Guide.......Follow the onscreen prompts to create a new network
Network Name...........Type in a simple name that you want to call your network. Do not use the suggested name.
Base Station Name....Type in a simple name that you want to call the Time Capsule.  Mine is TC, for example.
Password...................Type in a password that will be used for both the network and the Time Capsule.  Write that down.
Verify..........................Type in the password again to Verify
    Click Next
The setup wizard will configure everything for you. When you see the message of Setup  Complete, click Done.
The Time Capsule is now set up and it will display a green light.

  • Sky+ HD light flickers on sky hub even though connected to sky+ hd box

Everything is suggested as OK on the settings of the sky box but on the sky hub the hd light is on for a few minutes then turns off then turns on again? Suggestions?

Ok thanks it's just a bit annoying because I don't know wether it will be working or not.

  • Sky Hub (SR101) configured to roaming network on Airport Extreme?

    Hi,
Im trying to find out if it is possible to connect a Sky SR101 Hub to a Airport Extreme to create a roaming network with 3 Airport Extremes?
If so is the procedure of connecting it as follows:
    1. Sky Hub ethernet port connected to WAN port of 1st Airport Extreme
    2. Ethernet Cable from the 1st Airport LAN port to the WAN port of 2nd Airport (in another room)
    3. Ethernet Cable from the 2nd Airport LAN port to the WAN port of 3rd Airport (in another room)
What is the best way for the DHCP?
Do I set the 1st Airport that is connected to the Sky Hub do the DHCP and turn the Sky Hub wireless and DHCP off?
I am a bit confused when it comes to the DHCP side.
Thanks for your help in advance.

The Sky SR101 is a modem/router that provides both DHCP and NAT service.
So, in a "roaming network" configuration, each one of the AirPort Extremes would be configured to "create a wireless network" using the exact same wireless network name, same security setting and same wireless password as the Sky modem/router. Each AirPort must also be configured to operate in Bridge Mode.
Here, I am assuming that the Sky SR101 will be creating a wireless signal. Optionally, you could turn off the wireless on the Sky modem/router and use it only as a wired router if you prefer. In this case, the 3 AirPorts would be providing your wireless network.
This will work, but better wiring practice.....if possible.....would be to connect each AirPort directly back to one of the Ethernet LAN <-> ports on the Sky modem/router. This is called "home run" wiring.
The reason for this is that your proposed setup makes use of what is known as a "daisy chain" configuration.
While the "daisy chain" type of setup will work....if everything is working.....let's say that you configure the network as proposed in 1), 2), and 3) above.
If the 1st AirPort Exteme has a problem, it will take out AirPort Extreme 2 and AirPort Extreme 3 as well. Or, if AirPort Exteme 2 has a problem, it will take out AirPort Extreme 3 as well.
With the suggested method of connecting each AirPort directly to the Sky modem/router in a "home run" wiring configuration, you might have a future problem develop with any given AirPort, but this will not affect the operation of the other AirPorts.
As far as DHCP and NAT service, it might be possible to configure the Sky SR101 to operate only as a modem with DHCP and NAT functions disabled.
But, even if you can do this, your service provider may not support this type of setup, so you would want to check with Sky first to see 1) If this is possible, 2) How to do it, and 3) Verify that they will support that type of configuration.
If you decide to go this route, then AirPort Extreme 1 would be configured to provide DHCP and NAT service. AirPort Exteme 2 and AirPort Extreme 3 would still both be configured in Bridge Mode. In this case, you would connect AirPort Exteme 2 and AirPort Extreme 3 directly to AirPort Extreme 1.

  • Sky hub and TC

I used to use my TC attached to my modem from my ISP via Ethernet. I've now changed ISP to Sky (in UK), and now have a Sky hub SR102 (black box), this hub now does the wireless network and modem job.
I think you can run either the Sky hub or TC in bridge mode, basically using one or the other for wireless? What I'm wondering is which way is best to go, and help me get the best WiFi coverage in my house, as the Sky hub is on the ground floor, and it is a 3 storey house.
The TC I use for TM backups also, it's the older flat type 3rd gen I think. So what's three best way? Leave Sky hub as is, use a powerline adapter to connect the TC on another floor, and will this expand the wireless range? Just also have an older airport Express, the plug in type, can I put this on the other floor, so all floors  have a wireless device, to expand the wireless network even more more?
Any help on setups, screenshots, best practices, explanations, will be appreciated.
    Thanks

Leave Sky hub as is, use a powerline adapter to connect the TC on another floor, and will this expand the wireless range?
Yes, if you connect the Ethernet signal from the powerline adapter to the WAN "O" port on the TC and configure the TC to use the exact same wireless network name and password that the Sky hub is using.  Here, I assume that the Sky Hub is using an industry standard setting of WPA2 Personal for wireless security. This is also known as WPA2-PSK-AES.
Then, make sure that the setting for Router Mode under the Network tab is set for "Off (Bridge Mode)" and then click Update at the lower right to save the new settings. Allow a full minute for the TC to restart.
Just also have an older airport Express, the plug in type, can I put this on the other floor, so all floors  have a wireless device, to expand the wireless network even more more?
We will need additional information to be able to answer you question correctly?
What model of AirPort Express do you have?  The model number is on the side of the Express....hard to see....so you may need a magnifying glass. The model number starts with an "A" followed by four numbers.
Will the AirPort Express also connect using an Ethernet connection with the powerline adapters?.....or......Will the AirPort Express connect using wireless?

  • Sky Hub cable fuse question

Hey, just a quick one please. Due to the awkward setup at home ive had to purchase a longer 3m figure 8 power lead for my Sky Hub. (the black one). Its just arrived and its fitted with a 13A fuse (the cable is designed for this). Would this be ok to use on my Hub? Thanks in advance. Luke.

    lordgreyhead wrote:
Thanks, so basically its safe to change the 13A to a 3A in this cable when it says 13A on the plug.
    Perfectly ok.
Definitely not the other way round - the cable could catch fire before the fuse blows!

  • Sky Hub & Airport Extreme

I have just purchased a latest model Airport Extreme. I am currently on Sky broadband and use a Sky hub to send wifi around the house.
Can someone please let me know what i need to do so i can set up an Apple home network. Is it just a case of plugging the brand new extreme into an ethernet port on the sky hub then using my mac to set up the apple network?
I am no computer expert so would welcome a step by step guide to help me set this up!
    Thanks in advance
    Andy

Connect an Ethernet cable from one of the LAN Ethernet ports on the Sky Hub to the WAN "O" port on the AirPort and power up the AirPort for a few minutes.
On your Mac....open up Macintosh HD > Applications > Utilities > AirPort Utility
Click on the Other WiFi Devices button
    Click on AirPort Extreme xxxxxx
The setup utility will open up and analyze things, then suggest that the AirPort Extreme will create a network
Network Name....enter the name that you want to use for your wireless network
Base Station Name....enter the name that you want to use for the AirPort Extreme device
Password.....must be 8 characters....is the password for your wireless network and AirPort Extreme
    Verify the password
The utility will set up everything for you. When you see the message of Setup Complete, click Done and close AirPort Utility.
Now you can select your new wireless network from your Mac, enter the password, and you are online.

  • Can any 3rd party router piggyback to the black sky hub?

Hi all were having the sky fibre unlimited installed next week and today we have received the new Sky hub SR102 the black one in order to use the fibre optic from next week.  I have heard some bad and good reviews about this hub but one common concern i hear of is the wifi recetpion. My dad however uses the same SR102 and gets great reception from it. I have heard however that if i am to face this problem (hopefully not) i cna always buy another router and piggyback it to the sky hub via ethernet to boost the wifi coverage received. Does anyone know if i can use any router to do this with or does it have to have something specific with it being sky fibre im going to be used?. Any help would be greatly appreciated thank you very much.

If you was to go down the route of having another router then you will need one that needs an Access Point mode. What this does is turn off the DHCP function (which assigns your devices an IP) and allows devices to connect into it, whilst the SR102 serves the IP addresses. What I would recommend is to invest in a Power over Ethernet Wireless Extender.Plug one adapter into the mains next to your SR102 and connect it to your router via ethernet. Plug the wireless adapter into the mains elsewhere (assuming where wireless is poor) and follow the instructions to connect over the power lines.  Google "PoE Wireless" or "power line wireless extender"

  • Original Airport Express & Sky Hub

I've recently changed to Sky broadband in the UK and have their Sky Hub router. With my previous ISP I used an old Netgear router which wasn't n standard wireless, just b/g. Connected to this I had two of the original Airport Expresses both only used for AirTunes. The first in my loung was connected by ethernet and played through my hi-fi. The second in the kitchen was connected wirelessly and played through the aux input of a small digital radio. The signal to this was a bit hit and miss, but worked most of the time.
Now I've changed to Sky the etherent Airport plays fine, but the wireless one will not connect. There is now a stronger wirelss signal in the kitchen and I've also tried it in the same room as the router without any luck.
Incase it was a problem with the Airport Express I swapped them around and reconfigured them, but had the same result.
Is there a setting on the router that needs changing or are the two simply not conpatible? I guess the best option would be to buy a new Airport Express, but I'd rather not pay out £80.
    Thanks in advance
    Colin.

You will require a Mac running an older version of OS X, or a Windows PC to configure an original Express.

Switched from DSL to cable modem. My Airport light won't turn green. Keeps blinking orange. No wireless now and can't connect to more than one computer! ?????

    Hmmmm.
If you reset the AirPort Extreme by holding in the reset button for 9-10 seconds and then releasing, the AirPort should be back in default settings which would allow mutliple computers to connect to the LAN ports on the AirPort.
Power off the cable modem for now and leave it off at least 15 minutes.
With the AirPort Extreme still powered on, hold in the rest button on the back for 9-10 seconds and release. Allow a full minute for the AirPort Extreme to restart to a slow, blinking abmer light.
Then, power off the AirPort Extreme.
Check to make sure that the Ethernet cable from the modem is connected to the WAN "O" port on the AirPort Extreme.
After the modem has been powered off for at least 15 minutes, power it up and let it run for 5 minutes by itself.
Now, power up the AirPort Exteme and let it run for 2-3 minutes
Open Macintosh HD > Applications > Utilities > AirPort Utility
Connect an Ethernet cable from your Mac to one of the LAN <-> ports on the AirPort Express
Click on the AirPort Exteme, then click Continue to follow the guided setup tp configure the AirPort Extreme.  You can use the same wireless network name, password, etc that you used before, or set up a new name and password, etc.

  • New Sky Hub Router and Airport Express wifi extension.

I have the new Sky router (Hub) and I am trying to extend the wifi signal in my house but it won't.
I have the 802.11n 1st Gen Airport Express which connects to the wifi network ok but keeps erroring when I try to Extend a wireless network.
Please help as its driving me mad.
    Many thanks in advance.

Unfortunately, you always need two Apple  AirPort devices to be able to "extend" a wireless network using wireless only.
A single AirPort router cannot "extend" the wireless network of a 3rd party router using wireless only.
If you only have one Apple router, it is usually possible to establish a wired Ethernet connection between the AirPort router and configure it to provide more wireless coverage that way. The downside of course, is that the connection must remain wired between your main router and the AirPort router.
If you cannot run the Ethernet cable, it might be possible to use a pair of Ethernet powerline adapters to send a signal over the existing powerlines in your home. The theory here is that you already have the wiring in place and just need the adapters.
In practice, the Ethernet powerline adapters are not always predictable in their performance in every installation.

  • Sky Hub keeps disconnecting... please help? New customer...

Hello there, I am a new customer to Sky only joining last month, and  my broadband hub keeps disconnecting. I use wifi which is normally good, but the last week or so, every day our hub shows an Orange face, which I know sometimes means it's updating, so I leave it for one hour or more,  and it still does  not show white and we cannot connect to wifi. We have to restart the modem everytime for it to work, and have to keep doing this every day now... please help? As i dont think we should have to keep restarting our hub everyday for it to work. Many thanks,Hayley

That might well be one of the most ridiculous posts I've seen on here.
If you want help then provide us with more information including your router statistics, the exact issue/issues your having along with what Sky have so far done to try to rectify them.

  • Apple Mac and Sky Hub

Hello, I've got a very old iMac it's probably around 15 years old and runs OS X 10.4.11
Just bought a Sky Wireless Hub but it seems my old imac isn't wireless enabled. Can someone please assist me and tell me if it's wireless enabled, if not how can I make it? Even if I need to buy an attachment of some sort and explain in clear English as I'm not very technical! Appreciate any help, thanks.

    I take it we're talking about the coloured/transparent model;
This is a PPC G3, so I'll get the post moved to the correct forum in a moment.
These models didn't come with wifi as standard, indeed the earliest ones didn't even have a slot for a card.
I would normally suggest an Airport Express base station connected to the ethernet port to use as an access point, but the AEs currently available have to be set up with a version of Airport Utility which won't run on your model
Other choices are third party wi-fi bridges or USB wi-fi dongles (but finding a compatible one may be difficult)
There should be several threads on the subject (G3 wireless) so do a forum search, too.
