Sky HD Recording?AppleTV

Hi Guys
Looking for some advice.. My present setup is a Panasonic Viera, Apple TV, Sky+HD.
I have a 24" iMac in the next room but because of hardwood floors hard wiring is not an option I stream to apple TV and all works well.
The thing is, on occasions I want to take the content of my Sky+HD and either add it to iTunes or burn it to DVD in the other room. Is there a way to send the content from my Sky+HD in one room to the hard drive on my iMac where I can burn it to disc or put it in iTunes.

Problems accessing sky's remote record option

Has anyone found a good way to access the sky site in particular the remote record options in the tv guide. They have this fancy javascript based system that is a bit sluggish on a pc/mac but it crashes the iphone based safari. They have an option for a screen reader version which doesnt seem to work but this doesnt on a full computer either so thats a sky problem.
If anyone has found any way around it I would appreciate a post as it would be a useful function to have

Can you enable subtitles on Sky News live feed

So Sky News is one of the new apps on the latest update. I am wondering if it is possible to enable subtitles on the live feed? This way it could be a cost effective route for the sky news feed you see in control rooms.

Not sure.
Ensure subtitles/closed captioing is enabled in Settings.
When you use Sky News on AppleTV try holding the select button while playing - it may give an option to enable subtitles - if not it's probably not supported.

Cannot Record or access on Demand

I have Sky MuItiroom and have just upgraded the box to a Sky+ box. However, when I try to record it says it is not enabled. My main Sky box records without a problem and I was told that you could record on a secondary box with Multiroom. I have the box plugged into the broadband Please could someone help

You will need to call to get them to fix this for you. The reason why it is possibly happening is because your previous sky box had no recording feunctions so this feature was not enabled on the viewing card, now you have a new box that can record you will need to ask Sky to enable this feature.

Small Picture when Recorded to DVD

Hello, Many times I’ve copied TV programmes from my Sky+ disc to re-writeable DVDs via my DVD burner/player, thence to editing software - Adobe Premier Elements (APE) - on my PC, to remove advertisements etc., and then I've burnt them to blank DVDs to be shown on my TV. Basic, simple stuff and no problems ... until recently when I tried to do that with a film of about three hours length. That's longer than the programmes I usually burn to DVD from Sky, and meant that I had to set the DVD recorder to a 4-hour setting instead of the usual 2-hour or 1-hour setting, and in turn that meant that the film was recorded at a lower quality. Here’s the sequence of events:1. The film, when shown on TV from my Sky+ box, was at the normal size, i.e. it filled the (wide) screen;2. When burnt to a DVD-RW (let's call it the First DVD) and shown on TV it was still at the same size, filling the screen;3. When copied from the First DVD to APE on my PC it still filled the screen at the correct size;4. After editing on APE it was still at the same size on my PC;5. After using APE to burn it to a DVD-R (the Final DVD) it was still OK when shown on the PC by a media player; but6. When the Final DVD was shown on my TV via the DVD player, the picture had a black border around it and was exactly half the dimensions of the original Sky recording. Changing the picture ratio made no difference: the border remained and the image was smaller than the original. Since then I've tried various things with the help of someone who's cleverer than I regarding APE, but nothing has resolved the problem. However, he pointed out something strange, which was that the Sky+ box recorded to the First DVD with the frame size of 352 x 576 pixels, i.e. portrait format, not landscape, even though the film presented in landscape at every stage in the process. Help setting up BT vision+ box alongside Sky digib...

Can anyone help?
I got a BT vision+ box free with my renewed broadband subscription. I already have sky, cant access freeview ( live in a terrible reception area) and I don't have a rooftop aerial. I understand that I can't use the BT vision+ box to get freeview, I only want to use it to access iplayer and 4OD etc on my TV. Is there anyway to hook the sky digibox and the BTvision+ box up to my TV?
The TV is HD/digital ready with two scart and two HDMI connections at the rear. One scart connection goes to the sky box and one to the DVD-R which I currently use to record from sky (it records on AV2). Neither HDMI slot is in use.
The manual which came with the BT vision+ box says I can use the HDMI slot and connect it to the vision+ box - but as I dont have an aerial to connect the BT vision+ box to, I wonder if it would work? As far as I know, the iplayer comes through the BT home hub, so do I need the aerial connection if I wont be trying to access freeview? I don't want to start messing around with the current configuration in case it all stops working, or I banjax the BT vision+ box.
If anyone can advise the right connection configuration, I'd be very grateful!

Colorchecker Passport and Aperture 3

Hi everyone,
So, I was at the DFW Photo Expo today and attended some free seminars. One was on DSLR video (very good class) and one on color management. In the color management class, the class pretty much evolved around X-Brite Colorchecker Passport and Lightroom. I thought that it was very interesting, especially adjusting your RAW files to a certain standard.
As I have found out, the automated features only work in Lightroom and I think that the instructor said Photoshop (neither of which I have). It appears that Aperture is left out of the running if you want to use the features that Colorchecker Passport has.
As I haven't bought Aperture 3 yet, but I plan to, is there a need for something like this in Aperture to adjust for your camera (I have a Canon 60D) or is there an alternative? I know that there is a divid between Mac photographers between Aperture and Lightroom, so I don't want this thread to go down this path. I am concerned as to the best way to capture the true colors from what the camera saw and my eye saw. Also, there is the issue about color correcting your monitor and the importance (or not) of doing that. I have a fairly new 27" iMac that seems to look great to me. And of course the printer too.
I know this is a multi-question post, but I'm hoping that some of you out there in Appleland can point me in the right direction.

In the meantime, take a look at the Tint controls, both in the Enhance Brick and as a Quick Brush. The advantage of the Enhance controls are that you can apply the color shift separately to each of the three major divisions of the luminance gamut (first things to try are warming your darks and cooling your mid-tones, and vice versa). The advantage of the Tint Brush is in it's use for one-area or one-object hue shifts.
Here's the Enhance Brick showing some Tint values applied:
And here's a (quick & dirty -- ignore it as a photo) example of the Tint Brush at work -- the sky as recorded is entirely pale cyan.
For architectural photographs each of these can put to effective use, and (imho) provide their own functionality a little quicker than the Color Brick tools (which, of course, I also use regularly).

Recording dvds onto an imac from a Sky HD box

Dear apple afficionados
We have recently installed a Sky HD box and have recorded quite a few programmes that I would like to record onto DVD to keep permanently. We do not have a DVD recorder but my imac has a DVD recording facility. Is it possible to transfer the programmes from the Sky box onto the imac? If so, what equipment would I need? By the way, I am not a very technical minded person but would be willing to have a go if the instructions are easy to follow.

Unfortunately, cable and satellite boxes generally encrypt their contents to prevent you making the kind of copies you're talking about. It's possible that some of the programs are unencrypted; you could locate your box's model number (it's probably manufactured by a third party, not Sky themselves) and see if there are any online forums with information about it.

Capture recorded tv programs on my sky+ with imovie

I have a sky+ (pvr) box which has a function to allow a dvd recorder to record programs on it's hard drive. From what I can see the box simply plays them for the dvd recorder to record.
My question is this - is it possible to wire a sky+ box to my mac to record the program to my hard drive to the import into imovie?
I would have to use an RF cable so any advice on necessary hardware would good too.

I believe iMovie only supports direct importing of video via Firewire from a camera capable of machine control from that output. I think you would have to capture the video from your sky thing, with something like Snapz Pro, then convert it to a compatible format for iMovie, but by that time, you may not need to import it into iMovie if your intention is to simply capture the video for viewing on your Mac.

Could I capture a programme I've recorded on my Sky box?

I would like to make a copy and send it, via email/web, to a relative abroad (the BBC's iplayer, where one can watch previously aired shows, does not work outside of the U.K.).
I know that traditionally one would record a DVD, but I'd like to utilise technology further, and not to have to queue up for an hour in the Post Office!

Yeah, of course you're right, and it is a bit of a UK-centric question.
Sky is the UK satellite TV provider, and one can record shows onto the control box provided - it stores the show on it's own hard disk. Thus rendering DVD players/ burners useless. Hence me getting rid of mine!
And I was purely going to use FCE as a conversion programme... Hmm...

I doubt you can find a connection to go between the iBook and Sky Box.
Unless the Sky Box is Wireless and you can connect to it via your iBook network settings.
Even then, what playback software would be available for your PPC iBook to play back these programs.

Why when playing downloaded music on apple tv through my distributed audio, it sometimes skips like a scratched record or just stops (in pause mode and won't play again) and yet i have full bars on the wireless in home service from the mac to the appletv?

Full bars don't tell the whole story. These issues usually stem from interference, use istumbler to verify

Can I get a Sky Recording onto my iMac?

Hi,
My company was mentioned 3 times on CNBC this morning and I am rather proud of it as one might imagine! I have recorded the show on my Sky+ box and can now play it to my hearts content.
However, I want to transfer the video onto my iMac, where I can cut the clip and post it on our website. I already have permission to do this from the show but have no idea how to get the recording from my satellite onto my iMac?
I assume I can play the recording into some kind of video capturing device that displays on my screen, and then edit from there?
Bit of a noob to this stuff, please be verbose in your replies!
