Sky LLU to BT Infinity

Hi all
I'm looking to move from Sky LLU unlimited to BT Fibre, just wanted to know If I'd require a MAC code or does this only apply when moving between LLU products?
also wondered whether I should migrate my BB to BT first and then upgrade to fibre or can i just migrate to fibre?
thanks in advance.

I would get your MAC as BT will ask for even if they don't use/need it.  I would also go straight for infinity because as anew customer you will get a better deal

  • Sky LLU broadband to BT Infinity move going wrong

    Hi,
My parents place has been struggling along with 2mbit/sec Sky LLU broadband for ages. I saw that there was a decent deal going for the tv/broadband/phone so helped them order it. Booked the engineer for the 17th December.
They've now been told there is a delay with the order and they need a 'cease date' off Sky and the order may be delayed.
As far as I understand from LLU to BTwholesale FTTC does not require a MAC code or anything else. BT are in the driving seat and it is up to us to tell Sky we don't want to do anything.
Can someone see what has went wrong here? I'll be really annoyed if they miss that 17th date because I dobut there are any more appointments until after NY now, which will leave them without TV over Christmas (cancelled the TV to line up roughly with that date).

    Hi martinald,
    Thanks for your post.
Have you been notified about this order yet? If you need my help please send me in your details using the "Contact The Mods" link found in my profile.

  • Moving from Sky Fibre to BT Infinity

If I switch from Sky fibre to BT Infinity will I need to have an engineer visit or will it work like with normal broadband, just get a router and plug it in on activation date?

john46 - would that it were as simple as you say (I agree it should be).
I ordered a migration from a Plusnet Fibre trial to Infinity2 on 10 June - as from 27 June I have had working BT services BUT neither the 2 engineers who have been to my house nor the half-dozen BT call centre staff to whom I have spoken, nor anyone at the Correspondence Centre, nor the mods on this forum have been able to get the broadband activation completed - I am being expected to wait until 10 July!
Needless to say, despite Plusnet acknowledging the transfer, they are still billing me for both telephone and broadband as if nothing has happened.
I will be escalating my complaint tomorrow with Ofcom and my MP.

  • Transfer From Sky Fibre To BT Infinity

I have been with Sky Fibre on their LLU for over one year now. I tried to transfer to plus net fibre, but was told it cannot be done at the moment. The only way was to go without fibre for two weeks, and transfer over the line then fibre one at a time.
Would love to come to BT, but would I have the same difficulty ?
A am not willing to change number either.
    John

I transferred from very poor sky fibre connection to Bt. infinity 2 on 8 April and so glad I did the service from Bt. has been spot on and the connection has been brilliant kept same number estimated speeds 53 down 15 up getting 61 down and 18 up and really pleased with call package and features and just signed up for free Bt. sports on my sky hd box overall experience has been brilliant and transfer from sky only took 2 weeks with a few small problems that were quickly sorted and I got £50 sainsburys gift card and the package £20 for 3 months, I am now a very happy chappie !!

  • Sky Ondemand and BT Infinity.

Can someone tell me if there is a problem with Ondemand from Sky and BT Infinity, for the past 2 months ive had terrible trouble downloading from Ondemand from Sky. I am connected wireless to the sky connector but i have never had such trouble downloading as i have in past 2 months. Here is the threrad on the sky forum so you can judge for yourself
    http://helpforum.sky.com/t5/On-Demand-Catch-Up-TV/On-Demand-Downloads-very-slow-What-is-normal/m-p/2...
Executive Support Team from sky emailed me this morning saying there must be a problem with my ISP which there isnt. I am able to watch netflix and do other things on my connection with no problem at all. It is now getting to a case that if you want to downloading something in HD from ondemand it can take up to 4 hours. Clearly there has to be a problem with the sky servers.
Here is the email i got from sky this morning.
Thank you for your reply to my email. Having investigated your account, I can confirm that the download speed will depend on the size of the file and whether or not it is in HD or standard definition.
I can see from your account that you have the HD pack, so would assume that you are downloading content in HD. For a movie in HD with a file size of 3.4GB, a rough guide with your broadband would be that the wait time to start viewing this would be 1 minute. This means the time it takes to go from "downloading" to "available".
If there are any issues with this, in the first instance I would suggest that you speak with your internet provider regarding this.
Although you may be able to browse and access other content online quicker than the On Demand downloads, there can sometimes be congestion at the exchange which cause the issue.
I would like to check though, from a Sky point of view, if you are connected wirelessly or wired to On Demand. If you could please reply directly to this email with the answer to this question, I can perhaps assist further.

Just had infinity fitted but my SkyHD+ box won't connect.
I'm using Powerline connecters into the back of the hub and the SKY box - this worked perfectly with the old hub.
BT are blaming SKy - Sky are blaming BT!!
    Can anyone out there help?

have you tried restarting the hub and the power lines

  • Switching from TalkTalk LLU to Sky LLU

My contract with TalkTalk is almost up and I'm thinking of switching to Sky. How soon would the switch happen?  Would I experience any downtime?  Could I bring my phone number? Also, could you check ADSL2+ (24mbps) is available through Sky on my exchange (Science Park Cambridge), as previously TalkTalk were the only provider offering this (BT providing only ADSL Max at 8mbps). Finally, is there any way of avoiding the router delivery fee?  I already have a perfectly good router configured how I like it, so the Sky one would just end up in a cupboard full of clutter (along with all the other routers I've been sent over the years).

According to Samknow's exchange checker the following are LLU'd at your exchange TalkTalk, C&W, Redcentric and Sky.
What speed are you getting with TalkTalk(as Sky should be able to offer the same)?
You should be able to bring your number but Sky offer no guarentee as to this, downtime will happen as your switched over to Sky's equipment at the exchange and it usually takes around 10 working days from the date of order(byt can be longer if Openreach are busy in your area).
Regarding the router i don't think there is any option to not receive one or for Sky to waive the delivery fee.

  • Sky ADSL to BT Infinity 2 install woes

Reading other threads here I'm getting very worried about how my own problems are (not) progressing. And my total lack of broadband in this interim period.
We had a mostly perfect sky line, that was slow, and dropped sometimes, but it was workable. I was happy to spend a lot more on a decent line, and with the bookings all set for one day I wasn't worried about changeover, this area is meant to be well covered, and the exchange itself is less than a mile away.
My original appointment was for 19th august. They booked 2 engineers on the same day.
One for checking the line, one for Infinity, I have the email confirmations of the bookings, with both order numbers of course.
The Infinity guy never showed up.
First they claimed there was no order, and kept me on hold on and off for 20-30 minutes trying to find what had gone on when I'd given them name, address, and the exact order numbers from the emails.
Then BT said the line was unfinished on their system (it worked fine thanks to the fist guy, I was calling them on it). then they blamed lots of system delays, and tried to claim 'it's not your fault or ours, it's the system / contractors' I corrected the nice guy on the phone, as it was their system, and contractors from a BT owned company, it was their fault, and he agreed.
Now I've been told three days running that I'll be rung the next day to arrange the engineers visit, and I expect I'll be told the same today. so each day they're giving themselves a free 24 hours, and I fully expect when they finally offer a booking that it will be several days hence.
Why can't they book it then and there? because they can't even start the booking until everything else is green flagged on their broken system.
Thanks to them the only internet access I have is tethering my mobile which is slow, has to be reinitialised to regain connection regularly, and *expensive*.
I work full time from home, and this is HIGHLY disruptive, I can't go online elsewhere because they've ignored my requests to call my mobile and they're only ringing the house number.
I'm getting massively worried about the repercussions of this from work, and that they'll keep doing this for weeks.
I'm stuck in internet purgatory, it would take 5 days+ to switch the line back to adsl, and I want the fibre I'm paying for
Being given cloud access is no use, there are no cloud hubs running in this area. And being placated with 'well you've got the phone line' was not helpful, I have no use for a home phone line, I never wanted one, I use my mobile, it *hugely* angers me that they force you into getting one instead of providing internet access only.

So now I've been told by email after sending in a query with the contact form here the mods pointed me to that 'the case is being dealt with and  FTTC is not enabled on the line and unfortunately is not planned.'
The case is being reviewed with an update due on 04/09/13, but the nice mod trying to help me is away until 09/09/13 so if they're my best chance of this being resolved, that will mean I'll have been without internet FOR A MONTH.
This seems to imply that BT have sold me a phone line for £144 that I did not want or need (having working sky) on the promise of installing on the same day a fibre optic line that they cannot actually provide
Pretty livid right now, I've told them I work from home, I *needed* this to be a very fast turnover,  waiting for the feedback tomorrow then contacting ofcom

  • From SKY BB to BT Infinity

    Hi guys,
Just cancelled my SKY package there - phone line, broadband, and sky tv. So I have until the end of next month before I move to a new provider.
Was wondering if I get the BT £40 package, with TV and unlimited broadband, how long will it take BT to come over and install since time of ordering. SKY say it will take 14 days for them to be 'removed' from my line, something like that anyway.
So, does anyone have any experience with this, why should I order BT and will I receive any downtime on my phoneline/internet.
    Cheers,
    Cab

    Thanks for the replys,
I have read up on the forums here so I have seen both sides. But I going to go for it and order tonight, as I want my apparent 32mb download speed, not my pathetic current max 2mb ADSL connection.
As for SKY, I have their service until the end of next month, but can do what I want to the phone line in about 10 days so I hopefully dont go without service (would be a bit of a nightmare!) and hopefully BT sort there stuff out with no problems!
    Cheers guys,
Ill try and post what happens, just incase there is someone in the future looking to know.
Hope everything goes alright for you.
As has been said in a previous post, telephone wise you should not be down for any length of time, you possibly will not even know it has changed. BB wise, there will be a few days delay

  • Changed from sky to bt infinity now connection slo...

I have just changed from sky broadband to bt infinity. I've managed to connect my daughters ps4 to the internet but the connection is really slow and keeps dropping so she can't play online even when no one else is using the Internet.  If someone else wants to use the Internet she can't play at all! Do I have to adjust the settings on the ps4 or the home hub 5, when setting up the ps4 I used auto settings.
Please could someone let me know what to do
    Thanks in advance

  • Migration from Sky Broadband to Infinity 2

    Hi,
Just wondered if someone can confirm is this correct.
I have called today to port from standard Sky Broadband to BT Infinity 2.
The operator advised me that I would need to port into the standard BT Total Broadband service first then the day after I would have to place another order for BT Infinity.
I would appreciate it if someone can confirm this is correct as its a bit long winded.
    Thanks

If you pay Sky for your line rental then yes, it seems that the line has to be taken over first then Infinity  ordered.
My line was taken over sometime  yesterday and a nice lady phoned at 8.30am this morning to book an engineer visit for next week.
My broadband is still active with the  old provider as i asked them to keep it live until I contact them, maybe this would happen anyway but I have read a few horror stories on here
Again, not how it happened for me - I had everything with Sky, phone line switched over on 3rd May, engineer called round 10 minutes later and set up Infinity

  • New Infinity order

Hey just a quick question, placed an order to switch my telephone line and broadband to BT from a full Sky LLU package. Today my line switched over successfully, can anyone tell me when the order for Infinity 2 will be placed? and how long it takes once the order is placed? as Sky have told me Sky broadband will be removed in 10 days.
    Thanks. Adam

Because it is Infinity 2 that you have ordered you will need an engineer visit to install it. It will depend when they have an engineer appointment available. If you contact BT on  0800 800 150 they should be able to answer your question.

  • BT Infinity Extremely Slow Upload (380 Kb/s)

I switched from Sky ADSL2+ to BT Infinity FTTC on 9/01/2014.
When I purchased BT Infinity on 27/12/13 in their confirmation e-mail BT wrote:
We estimate your download speed will be between 16.3Mb and 22.5Mb.
We estimate your upload speed will be between 2.2Mb and 4Mb.
I am about 1 mile away from my cabinet and connected with a copper line so these relatively low estimated speeds look reasonable to me.
My Sky ADSL 2+ Connection was providing 6.5Mb/s download and 0.85Mb/s upload so I thought it was worth switching.
    SKY ADSL 2+
Every day since activation my BT Infinity speed has hovered around 15Mb/s download (fine) and 0.4Mb/s upload, sometimes dipping to as low as 0.2Mb/s but never exceeding 0.5Mb/s, which is negatively affecting my internet experience.
    BT Infinity FTTC
I contacted BT several times and was instructed to measure the speed using a wired connection with speedtest.btwholesale.com, reset the hub, reboot my machine and so forth. Eventually various line tests were performed and a line fault was registered. A BT engineer visited on 25/01/14 and confirmed that my home wiring was fine, only one socket is wired with no extensions and the newest openreach face plate is fitted and working correctly. He tried also using a Home Hub 4 with separate modem. The same speeds were achieved. He tried switching the twisted pair connecting my master socket to the point at which the line enters my property. The same speeds were achieved. He informed me that although my line is quite long I am within the attenuation/capacitance limits and there seems to be no fault on the line. He recommended that I should request a broadband speed boost visit and that an engineer may be able to change the pair used to connect me to the cabinet which may improve the speeds. I contacted BT today and they refused to comply with this stating there was absolutely nothing further they could do to increase my upload speed.
    BTW BT Infinity FTTC
    I have a few questions:
    1) How can BT so accurately estimate the download but not the upload speed?
    2) Is the fact that my upload is 5x slower than estimated whilst the estimated download is accurate an indication of a problem with my line or with the setup in the cabinet or at the exchange?
    3) How can the ADSL2+ provide double the upload speed of VDSL?
    4) When the BT engineer connected his kit directly to the twisted pair it reported that the maximum download rate was approximately 12Mb/s and upload 1.2Mb/s. How can the download increase to 15Mb/s after the filter and modem are attached yet the upload drop by a factor of 3?
    5) Is there any way to end this madness? I'd like to at least have my old upload speed back.
    6) Since BT have signed the Ofcom Voluntary Code of Practice on Broadband Speeds which specifies:
“If ... the customer continues to receive an access line speed significantly lower than the estimate provided at point of sale the ISPs should offer the customer with an alternative broadband package. Consumers should not incur any change of package penalty in order to migrate onto a different broadband package under these circumstances other than those charges that would have applied had they signed up to that lower package in the first instance.” I, of course, have the right to switch to a cheaper package from BT such as ADSL2+ without a charge. Is it likely this will again double my upload speed?
(All speeds mentioned were measured using a wired gigabit ethernet connection to the home hub 5 modem/router and the website speedof.me, these results match within error those taken using speedtest.btwholesale.com. No wireless devices were connected to the hub and only the speed test was running on an Intel Core i5, 8GB Ram, ASUS P8Z77-V LX machine. They agree within error with measurements taken using a Mac Book Pro with 5GHz wi-fi.)

Thanks for the post and welcome to the forum.  Sorry to hear of the problems you are having with your upload speed.
If im honest something doesn't sound right.  Our speed estimates are just that, estimates but they are generally pretty close and certainly should not be way off the mark.  I cant comments on what is going on until I take a look at your connection stats for my end.  I would also like to review the engineer report.

  • Existing Sky Broadband Customer who wants to switc...

    Hello everyone,
I am currently using sky broadband and have been for roughly the last 12-18months (not sure on the exact number). I have grown increasingly tired with the poor performance of the broadband they supply so have decided to go for BT Infinity.
First of all I was hoping someone could explain to me how I'd switch providers and what it would entail?
Secondly I was hoping for some general feedback on BT Infinity from some of you guys. I'd love to know if you recommend it or not?
    Many thanks!
    Chris

hi there, I have just moved from Sky Unlimited to BT infinity option 2.
Speak to a BT sales person, number on website. They will talk you through everything you need to do.
You will need a MAC number from SKY, and SKY have really sharpened up on this. They used to be difficult handing it over, but now if you ask they will email it to you. You then forward that to the email addy of the salesperson at BT dealing with your call.
Diferences; It costs more money, be in no doubt. But as the old saying goes you get what you pay for. The speed in my case went from 8.4mb down / 1.6 mb up (from a package promising 20 mb) with severe slow downs at weekends.... to 81mb down and 19.6 mb up, with zero weekend slowdown.
I have also been told there will be a significant speed bump again late this year for no extra cost.

  • From Sky ADSL to BT Infinity2 - effect on Free eve...

Currently have our phone with BT and we have free evening and weekend calls. We pay monthly via direct debit.
If switching our broadband from sky adsl to bt infinity 2, will we still get free evening calls?
We would like the £50 Sainsburys voucher and to pay for line rental upfront for 12 months so how would this effect the current direct debit? Perhaps pay for everything online then phone to cancel the direct debit? But would this also cancel the free evening calls? I understand this is £2pm so can this just be re-bolted on?

If you contact the BT Options Team 0800.800.030 they should be able to advise you.
If you qualify for the Sainsbury vouchers make sure that you order online as you will not get the Sainsbury Vouchers if you order by phone.
