Skype 5.5 sucks

I have just got the skype 5.5 update and it sucks as it doesn't solve most of the critical issues but this doesn't means that the links preview and easy sign in is n't a good improvment but it is adding LESS IPRORTANT FEATURES AND NEGLECTING THE CUSTOMERS FEEDBACK I thought that skype is going to fix any of these issues that have been reported weeks and month ago but unfortunately we get that it has been reported internally and we get surprised by the new update totally neglecting them 1- the camera preview in video calls is too large that it hides most of the other person's face just compare the size of camera preview of skype and facebook messenger and facetime you will find that skype's one is almost three times bigger than any other seccessful app 2- if the other person is using a different orientation than mine ex. If I am using my phone in portrait mode and the other is landscape the imahe will be extremely zoomed in by default .. zooming is a good featuring but it should show the entire image unless the user want to zoom !!! 3- It takes about 40 seconds to start ringing while other apps like fb messenger and whatsapp takes only 2 seconds 4- no ringtone customization at all 5- some messages won't appear as if they were lost and then after few messages and calls it appears 6- the status of my contacts if meaningless and my status even if I am not connected to the internet changes from away which is already meaningless to available !!!! 7- the profile pictures of my contacts doesn't appear unless we make a call or send a message8- to search for someone I can't see the result's pictures in the search result

now all my contacts who have skype on their android phones and actually updated it to skype version 5.5 appears always to be available even though they aren't connected to the internet and by all of them I mean all of them no matter which device they are on there is no exception in my contacts .. this sucks and definately an even worse model of being always away and even more meaningless ..

i have surface pro and skype was used for chasing my kid aroun the house so my mom can see her an i was able to fast switch front and rear camera in conversation....is this really considered an upgrade!!!!!!!????????skype team please fix this because there is plenty options out there oovoo,viber,facetime.....

Using Skype credit to (re)activate Skypenumber

Hi, I have a skypenumber that I want to reactivate. Costs euro 18.I bought skype credit for euro 25 using idEal (total now euro 27)
When I reactivate my skypenumber I do NOT get an icon where I can select Skype credit that I just paid for, just credit card options I do not want to use. Does anyone know how to use Skype Credit to (re) new a skype number? This icon that is promised in the help section really does NOT appear anywhere.

I got the skype number and instead of adding $10 worth of credit, I added $25 with the hope that I will use them again. I couldn't use them all but then skype expired my number. I think it is totally very cheap an unethical of skype to hoard somebody's money like this. The subscription should not expire as long as I have skype credit. I purchased skype number with the hope of keeping it forever as long as I had my credit in there. Instead, I find out that I have to pay an extra $18 to keep the number and reactivate my skype credit. I am very angry. I am unemployed and need every dime to myself. If I were to pay for monthly subscription, then I could myself get a "go phone" and receive MUCH better voice quality. Skype voice quality sucks and they have the audacity to ask for subscripton fee?

So I had a Skype number in an area code I no longer wanted so the subscription ran out and I bought a new subscription with a new number for $30 on 5/12 and the order was delivered. I even made a test call and the new number showed up on the caller ID. Today would have been the end of the other subscription I guess and now Skype isn't working at all. Hi, first a quick rant: I'm an EXTREMELY frustrated new user. I have spent the last hour trying to figure out what I just purchased and what I can do to get an explaination, but whoever created this website did so without a new user in mind. Quickly: I need help trying to determine what I just purchased and what to do from here. As Quickly as I can explain what's going on: My friend in Croatia told me he spent $60 for unlimited calling. He can apparently call anywhere to phones - as we made several calls to landlines in both the states and england from his computer. We've since left his place. As I'm traveling to many countries, I figured this was a great idea, I'll pay up front instead of purchasing credits. I whipped out my credit card and paid $60 after chosing a number. After about an hour, the transaction cleared on my account with a renewal in 12 months. I went to make a call and it said I didn't have enough credit. After trying to figure out what happened all I can determine is that I might have paid for the use of a phone number for 12 months and not a subscription. Now of course after trying for several hours trying to find out how to contact Microsoft or Skype - or Whatever help center - for the past hour and finding they deflect all help to their help pages that comes nowhere NEAR helping me or explaining what has happened - and if I made a mistake how to correct it. I apparently need to spend more money for a premium account to get actual advice or any kind of resolution. Any company that takes money and expects a new user just to GET it, without providing some human interaction is a horrid company. So I paid for something I didn't want and can't use. I THINK. But I can't request a refund or help because I haven't paid for a premium account. Can anyone shed some light on this? hello when i click to open the support page when its load its says page not found..... and i have tried with 3 different browsers can anyone help me whats going on or skype support just sucks

Post your full model and operating system.
On the support page go to drivers tab then down on left side select your operating system, that will show the ones you need for each driver section.
Some may have more than one, you will notice they have different dates. Some people like to have the old original drivers and others want to use the newest one available for various reasons.

12 month Subscription does not appear on account

I have a recurring 1 month subscription or unlimited US calling and a 12 month subscription for a skype number. Only the 1 month subscription appears on my account page although the skype number does work. I want to make sure this number does not suddenly become inactive. Why is it not showing up?

Got 12 month subscription, added $5 for Mobiles, n...

Hey I just bought my first Skype subscription.
It was $11.88 for a 12 months landline subscription and there was a checkmark for $5 that said that adding 5$ would also add mobile to the subscription. I made sure that's what it exactly said and I thought it was a good deal so I checked it.

It only says "Subscription" on the second line and only "Landline" on the other.
On the details of the PayPal purchase, ( http://img40.imageshack.us/img40/9357/b5ux.png ), it says I added $5 Skype Credit.. that's not what I selected. I selected something that said that I could add Mobile to the subscription.
Did I do something wrong? If that is simply a $5 credit, can I have it refunded?

Skype on Windows 8 Sucks

Am I the only person who thinks that the new Skype on Windows 8 is really hard to use. Why oh why can I not simply import all of my contacts I have previously imported. Trying to do anything is really hard.

I agree. It does leave A LOT to be desired. It is a handicapped mess. I cannot listen to voice mail, set it up or even usually answer a call in time with this modern UI mess. I have a number through Skype, and once the 12 month term is up, I am done with Skype and on to something hopefully more useful. Thanks, Microsoft. Nice product. Frankly, the whole Windows 8 experience has left much to be desired.

Iam sorry but its true, I been sitting here for 2 days now and I am about to explode.
I been using skype for a long time and now when I am gonna make the payment with a new credit card it says I have to many cards added already so I have to remove one if I wanna go on. ANY OTHER WEBSITE WOULD LINK TO THE PAGE WHERE YOU REMOVE THE CREDIT CARD FROM DIRECT, why do I need to look around the whole site like a jackass? especially when its nowhere to be found?
After probably an hour of looking through this horrible site and reading the support (which mostly of course does not link to the pages they talk about like ANY OTHER SITE IN THE WHOLE WORLD WOULD) I found a page, but with only 1 of my credit cards, so I removed it but when I try to add a new one its just the same **bleep**.
Sorry for the bad language but I am so fed up with this site. Please if Skype want my money, help me solve this, because best of all you of course dont have any customer support e-mail that I could send a mail to. At least not one that I easily could find.
Take this topic of frustration as valuble information on how to improve the site, I am a game developer and are working with complicated computer stuff EVERY SINGLE DAY, but I couldnt manage to use your site...thats bad!

I too struggled with trying to make a change from paying monthly to yearly. More than 3 hours of messing around with this poorly developed website and still have not been able to make a payment to SKYPE. I guess Microsoft does not want my money. . . so I will find other ways to communicate with people. Seems like there are better services for free. I guess when revenue quits coming in, SKYPE will try to get me again as a customer.

Wp8.1 skype sucks

No Skype notifications in the tray when you get an IM; you're supposed to be notified. Missed a chance to hang with a buddy tonight. App takes FOREVER to load. Window doesn't adjust to view what you're typing. It's a Microsoft product and apple's app is way better. Sad.

Sign-up for Skype Manager, then setup a SIP Profile. Then get a IP-PBX or SIP server [I personally am using Brekeke Sip Server]
Then have each UA REGISTER to the SIP or IP-PBX server [UAS]. If your Skype DID is forwarded to SIP # and called, it should forward via routing to any extension once they register ip-phones.

How to protect your IP from skype resolvers!

This is a guide on how to stop your Skype username resolved and your IP found.
NOTE: This is for PC machines not for other devices (Unless you can locate to this area on your device, then do so and see if it works then great!), a side note if you have 2 devices logged into skype (I recommend only having one.) if you have to have 2 or you cannot change these settings for both devices then unfortunately they will be able to get the IP from the device that is not protected unless you sign out of the device that you cannot change the connection settings on.
Follow these steps carefully.
STEP 1- Tools > Options > Advanced > Connection
On the top of the Skype application there should be headers, Skype, Contacts, Conversation, ect. Navigate to "Tools" and press, then go to "Options" after that locate to the "Advanced" header and find "Connection", press this and you will have settings ready to be changed.

STEP 2- Read carefully.
Follow these steps from the top of the settings to the bottom and you should do fine.
1. "Use port [32535] for incoming connections."
2. Check "Use port 80 and 443 for additional incoming connections."
3. Select "HTTPS" from the dropdown menu.
4. Put the Host as [127.0.0.1] and the Port as [40031].
5. Uncheck "Enable Proxy Authentication" if it is checked.
6. Uncheck "Enable uPnP" if it is checked.
7. Check "Allow direct connections to your contacts only."
8. Then press "Save" in the bottom right corner.

STEP 3- Finishing up step 1-3. Changing IP.
Now that you have saved the editing of connection settings you should now sign out of your skype account, quit Skype and end any Skype.exe's running in the backround using Task Manager. If you do not have any knowledge on it, I recommend just restarting your PC machine for safer measures.
When that is done this people most likley will still be able to get the IP address you have after changing them settings but if you change your IP address they will still have the old IP, not your new one. Now you are probably thinking "How do I change my IP then?", well Step 4.
STEP 4- Changing your IP address.
To change your IP there is two things you can do to my knowledge. To start CLICK HERE this will give you your IP address write or type that down somewhere so you can tell if your IP has changed later. First way to change your IP: Allot of ISP's (Internet Service Providers) these days will allow you to turn off your Networking Modem/Router (In Australia atleast.), for an extended duration of time (5-10+ minutes.) which would then change your IP this is called Dynamic. After doing this check back on the website or refresh the page and see if your IP has changed, if it has then you are done. You are safe from having your skype username resolved if your IP hasn't changed. follow the, Second way to change your IP: Simply call up support and ask them a way to change your IP address or look on online support, they will surely help guide you through and help you change it. Just tell them that people are DDOS'ing or are doing things with your IP online (explain what it is) or are going to and you want to protect yourself from it, that is if they ask why. If they do not allow you to change your IP then there is nothing I can do, unless you want to research another way on how to do it. One way or another most of the time there should be a way somewhere out there on how to change your IP just research on it. After your IP being changed you should be scott free if you have followed these steps correctly. To test use some Skyper resolving websites and use your own Skype username, if my guide has worked it shouldnt give a IP
I really suck at English, sorry about how messy this is. I found out how to stop people from resolving my IP and I wanted other people to know about this really badly. If you find this guide not understandable please tell me, I can always make a youtube video and post it on this guide or edit it.
You could also use a proxy to stop being resolved but it lowers your connection speeds for a gamer like myself this really affects me, that is why I posted this.

I apologies for the late reply, but if you read the whole thing your problem should be solved. If the person that is retrieving your I.P has gotten it before my steps, he then has your I.P, no matter if you stop anyone else from retrieving it, you need to change your I.P. I personally have a dynamic I.P so I can turn my router off to 5+ minutes and my I.P will change. This way when they then try to resolve my Skype, and try to retrieve my new I.P they are left blocked. There are also other ways to get your I.P, via streaming Skype calls he can get your I.P directly. You can always ring up your ISP (Internet Service Provider) and ask them for help on how to change your I.P address. You can also look around on the internet on how to set up a proxy, proxies pretty much defeat all the DDOS'ers that are wannabe hackers.

Two Freetalks, two numbers, one Skype Account

I have two freetalk 1200's, one in my home and one in our vacation home. I also have two Skype numbers. I'd like one Skype number to be associated (exclusivily) with the home Freetalk and the other number associated (exclusivily) with the vacation home. To be clear I don't want them to ever BOTH ring when one number is called. This is b/c we sometimes rent out the vacation home.
The Freetalk setup only allows you to associate it with a Skype account. Both houses phones ring when either number is dialed. Is the only solution to have two Skype accounts? That would suck b/c it looks like if i cancel one of the numbers Skype is keeping the $30 i paid for it.

Unfortunately that would be your only solution. If you want the device to act like a separate line, you have to have a separate line. In this case, that would mean a separate account. Purchasing a second number for 1 account means you actually want it to do exactly what it is doing.
