Skype 7.1 Crashes on Windows 8.1

When I'm trying to call or receive a call (video or audio), my Skype always stop working showing "Skype has stopped working". Tried re-installing it but didn't solve the problem.
The Skype is the latest version (7.1.60.105) and the chat is working fine. My laptop is Lenovo E540 with Windows 8.1. Please help. Thanks.

Hi, and welcome to the community!
Make sure your OS and drivers are completely up to date.
Try deleting your shared.xml file, restarting your computer, and trying again.
Have you tried a clean reinstallation of Skype?
Also, try completely reinstalling Internet Explorer, as Skype uses internet explorer engines to run.

  • Skype 7.2 crashing on Windows 10

Hi I installed today windows 10 on my Lenovo G550 with windows 7, and then I installed Skype and prompt the the windows 10 version crashed 4 times. What can I do ?

Please,  run the DirectX diagnostics tool. Go to Windows Start  and in the Run box type dxdiag.exe and press the OK button. This will start the DirectX diagnostics program. Run this diagnostics and save the results to a file. Please, attach this file to your post. Be aware that you will have to zip this file before attaching it here.

  • Skype 7.7 crashing on windows 10

So I didn't have a problem with skype till I upgraded to Windows 10 from 8.1. whenever I log in or make a call to a friend it would crash, though sometimes it didn't crash until later in the call or at a random time. I have tried reinstalling it etc. but nothing has been working. Ill leave the DxDiag file below

Make sure your Video drivers is the latest ones (released th 29, yours says 23. /7). Also your usb speakers (?) have a driver from 2014. Skype has issues with nvapi.dll, which I assume is part of the nVidia driver. http://www.nvidia.com/download/driverResults.aspx/87789/en-us Also do a systemfilescan. Rightclick startmenu > command prompt (administrator) > sfc /scannow  , to be sure there is no bad system files.

  • Skype 7.7 Crashes on Windows 10 | "Skype has stopped working"

Hi all!First of all, I would like to say that I recently upgraded to Microsoft Windows 10 from 8.1 as of this morning. I love it, but there is one problem; my Skype client won't start up. As soon as I boot it up, it says "Skype has stopped working. Windows will try to find a solution", or something along those lines. I have uninstalled Skype, renamed the folder, disabled my firewall, deleted files in my %temp% and Skype folder, etc. etc. to no avail. When I did a DxDiag it said no problems were found in every category. However. I did find an interesting entry in the log that might be of help, so here it is. • Skype 7.4 crashes on Windows 7/HP laptop

It seems that there is still problems with the HP Web cam and Skype. Similar phenomenon has been reported with earlier Skype verions, but still no official fix. Anyways blue screen appears once Skype starts for the first time right after installation.Latest and greates of everything was installed but no help. Finally the reson seems to be the incompatibility between Skype and HP web cam driver. As temporary solution was to disable the web cam from Device Manager->Imaging devices-> HP HD Webcam, right click and select Disable. Hope this helps if anyone else runs into this problem.

The issue is caused by the Covenant Eyes application, which is Internet Filtering tool.

Same problem. I have re-installed at least 5 times, Also 4 hours of "help"from chat didnot hel;p at all. I now have downloaded a old version (6.22.81.105) and that works like a dream.
So "upgrade" by microsoft means "downgrade" into a black hole.

My Skype has never crashed until this update. I would delete skype and reinstall it and then it would work again for the rest of the night, until the next time I loaded it up to use again. Now that isn't working anymore. I did the Event Viewer thing people have been telling others to do here, but I have no idea how to read what's wrong and how I can fix it.

  • Skype 7.3 crashing around same time every night

Skype has been crashing every night, right before I go to bed Skype.exe ends up consuming almost 2GB of memory for some reason, at around the same time every night, and there are constant errors that Skype is out of memory, and it eventually stops responding completely until I end the process.
Running Windows 7 64bit with the latest updates installed, and Skype 7.3 latest build. Screenshot attached.

It really can't be any other software or hardware changes, as no changes have been made at all since the Skype update which caused this issue to start occuring.
As this particular system and user account are locked down and used almost exclusively just for Skype by an elderly retired person who runs no other applications, and has made no other changes to the system within that time that Skype has been updated and this issue has started occuring.
The Skype window remains open after they launch it in the morning, without minimizing it or using any other applications which could potentially interfere.
Considering the user is an elderly person with limited computer knowledge, when this issue occurs they are unable to recover the system themselves from its non responsive state, requiring intervention by us fix it on a nightly basis which is less than ideal for us, and them.

    Can anybody help me?
    Thank you

Try to reset all Skype settings.
Quit Skype or use Windows Task Manager to kill any Skype.exe process. Go to Windows Start and in the Search/Run box type %appdata% and then press Enter or click the OK button. The Windows File Explorer will pop up. There locate a folder named “Skype”. Rename this folder to something different, e.g. Skype_old.
Next go to Windows Start and in the Search/Run box type %temp%\skype and then press Enter or click the OK button. Delete the DbTemp folder.
    Restart Skype.
N.B. If needed, you will still be able to re-establish your call and chat history. All data is still saved in the Skype_old folder.

actually, just fixed it. for error trapping purposes, i'll leave this here anyways.
skype crashes when you try to log into an updated version when your credentials are set to autolog you in, and your password is due for a reset.
HOWEVER it allowed me to see my friends list. with expired credentials. which is odd.
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

Skype is crashing because FFSplit virtual video capture application IS INSTALLED. You don't need to use the application, just the presence is enough to cause a crash when starting Skype. This happens only with the latest 7.0 version. Older versions would not crash.
