Skype 7.4.0.102 on WIndows 8.1 keeps crashing

Skype seems to crash at random, at least twice a day.  Can anyone suggest how to fix this?  I've seen lots of reports but no solutions that seem relevant to me.  I've attached a copy of the latest event log. Many thanks in advance for any help.

Please,  run the DirectX diagnostics tool. Go to Windows Start  and in the Run box type dxdiag.exe and press the OK button. This will start the DirectX diagnostics program. Run this diagnostics and save the results to a file. Please, attach this file to your post. Be aware that you will have to zip this file before attaching it here.

    Dear Skype team,
I recently updated my skype to version 7.4.8.102. However, when I signed in Skype again, the text "signing in" rotated for about 6-7 seconds then nothing appeared, I couldn't see the usual Skype chat screen. Then, I uninstalled Skype with Your Uninstaller and reinstalled my old version 6.16.0.105 and I signed in successfully (Of course, I had to turn off automatic update function). However, upon receiving file like jpeg or gif, I saw a message asking me to log in another site like this "to view this shared photo go to https //api.asm.skype"....
Then I had to login that site with skype account and downloaded the file again (The image was resized ( => The question is:
    1. If I want to use latest version 7.4, how can I sign in? I tried to follow steps in this topic but it didn't help (http://community.skype.com/t5/Windows-archive/Skype-not-working-on-Windows-XP-as-of-today/td-p/20124...
I also tried to rename SkypeTM folder into Skype_old, delete Db temp folder by going to %temp%\skype but it didn't work. (http://community.skype.com/t5/Windows-desktop-client/Problem-with-signing-in/m-p/3973941)
    2. If I continue to use older version 6.16.0.105, how can I receive files without logging in another site to download low quality file?
(I've been using Skype for 7 years and never encountered this problem before).
I look forward to hearing from you.
Thank you for your coming support!

    Hi,
In order to assist you, we will need the .DMP files to analyze what exactly occurred at the time of the crash, etc.
If you don't know where .DMP files are located, here's how to get to them:
    1. Navigate to the %systemroot%\Minidump folder.
-- %systemroot% is the environment variable for your Windows directory. For example, C:\Windows.
    2. Copy any and all .DMP files in the Minidump folder to your Desktop, create a new folder on the Desktop to put these .DMP files in, and then zip the folder. You can then either use a 3rd party tool such as 7-Zip/Winrar, or you can use Windows'
    default method of zipping folders.
Compress and uncompress files (zip files).
Please note that any "cleaner" programs such as TuneUpUtilities, CCleaner, etc, by default will delete .DMP files upon use. With this said, if you've run such software, and your Minidump folder is empty, you will need
to allow the system to crash once again to generate a crash dump.
    3. Upload the .ZIP containing the .DMP files to Onedrive or a hosting site of your choice and paste in your reply.
Preferred sites: Onedrive, Mediafire, Dropbox, etc. Nothing with wait-timers, download managers, etc.
4 (optional): The type of .DMP files located in the Minidump folder are known as Small Memory Dumps. In %systemroot% there will be what is known as a Kernel Memory Dump (if your system is set to generate). It is labeled MEMORY.DMP. The difference
between Small Memory Dumps and Kernel Memory Dumps in the simplest definition is a Kernel Memory Dump contains
much more information at the time of the crash, therefore allowing further debugging of your issue. If your upload speed permits it, and you aren't going against any strict bandwidth and/or usage caps, etc, the Kernel Memory Dump is
the best choice. Do note that Kernel Memory Dumps are much larger
in size due to containing much more info, which is why I mentioned upload speed, etc.
If you are going to use Onedrive but don't know how to upload to it, please visit the following:
Upload photos and files to Onedrive.
After doing that, to learn how to share the link to the file if you are unaware, please visit the following link -
Share files and folders and change permissions and view 'Get a link'.
If your computer is not generating .DMP files, please do the following:
    1. Start > type %systemroot% which should show the Windows folder, click on it. Once inside that folder, ensure there is a Minidump folder created. If not, CTRL-SHIFT-N to make a New Folder and name it Minidump.
    2. Windows key + Pause key. This should bring up System. Click Advanced System Settings on the left > Advanced > Performance > Settings > Advanced > Ensure there's a check-mark for 'Automatically manage paging file size for
    all drives'.
    3. Windows key + Pause key. This should bring up System. Click Advanced System Settings on the left > Advanced > Startup and Recovery > Settings > System Failure > ensure there is a check mark next to 'Write an event to the
    system log'.
Ensure Small Memory Dump is selected and ensure the path is %systemroot%\Minidump.
    4. Double check that the WERS is ENABLED:
Start > Search > type services.msc > Under the name tab, find Windows Error Reporting Service > If the status of the service is not Started then right click it and select Start. Also ensure that under Startup Type it is set to Automatic rather than
Manual. You can do this by right clicking it, selecting properties, and under General selecting startup type to 'Automatic', and then click Apply.
If you cannot get into normal mode to do any of this, please do this via Safe Mode.
    Regards,
    Patrick

    Hi Bash156,
As S.Sengupta suggested, this may be related with the Windows update.
    See this thread:
Windows 8.1 File Explorer crashes repeatedly

  • Skype 7.7.0.102 + Windows 10 build 10240 (final release) hangs on keyboard hotkeys

Hello there, just upgraded my Windows 8.1 to Windows 10 build 10240 (should be final release, obtained by Windows Update). When I switch keyboard layout by hotkeys (my setup is: CTRL+SHIFT+number 1-3), Skype just hangs and not answering no more.Switching from tray is fine, but it's very uncomfortable, as I have to type in 3 different languages.Skype 7.7.0.102 is Skype version, tryed to reinstall, but still same problem

Hello guys!I'm happty to tell you, that my problem with switching layout in skype is fixed for now. I always used CAPS-LOCK to switch layout and used different apps for that. All of them now do not work. Recently i found an app called EveryLang. It's in active development and was not working with skype correctly till last update. It's free but you can upgrade to pro for $6 or so, i do not remember exact price. I'm happy with free version. It offers several layout switching shortcuts, may be you will find appropriate, that you are used to. I attached screenshot with shortcut window to this message. App url is: https://everylang.net/ I'm not this app developer and not contacted with developers in any way. Hope this message will help you!

With all previous versions of Skype I was allowed to access chat history for each contact or group all the way from the start of the conversation. Now, with Skype 7.0.59.102, it only goes back a month. This is terrible!!
Please, is there a way it can be accessed, I'm just missing it. And if not, please bring it back!
    tnx!

Hi and welcome to the Skype Community,
This is not depending on the Skype version to use, but whether you've kept your local Skype chat history database. This is the only way to store chat history beyond 30 days.
If you have installed Skype on a brand new Windows installation only the last 30 days of history will be synchronized from the cloud.

Try first to reset all Skype settings.
Quit Skype or use Windows Task Manager to kill any Skype.exe process. Go to Windows Start and in the Search/Run box type %appdata% and then press Enter or click the OK button. The Windows File Explorer will pop up. There locate a folder named “Skype”. Rename this folder to something different, e.g. Skype_old.
Next go to Windows Start and in the Search/Run box type %temp%\skype and then press Enter or click the OK button. Delete the DbTemp folder.
    Restart Skype.
N.B. If needed, you will still be able to re-establish your call and chat history. All data is still saved in the Skype_old folder.

  • Skype 7.0.0.102 !!!

hello and good afternoon everybody. there is a new version of Skype 7.0.0.102 and i would like to know, if is possible, what are the improvements in this version. thanks a lot and have a nice weekend.
    greetings.
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

I'm really suffering from new tablet style of UI of Skype for desktops.
I cannot use it all. I was pretty happy with 6.21 UI, but do not see any option to take it back. There is no settings to use "Classic UI style". I believe Microsoft values clients users of Skype in the same way as it values users of other products. I continue using of Skype broadly, I regularly pay for Skype services, but I'm really tired to do downgrade Skype client to 6.21 version any time when Windows insist on new version. Even using do not update automatically settings in Skype does not allow to stick with current version. Sometimes like today I'm very unpleasantly surprised with latest version installed with unacceptable and frankly speaking awful UI.
I know that Microsoft is very big corporation with many and many products and versions. I suppose that Skype has low score between other products. But most of Skype users are users of many other commercial products of Microsoft. So I hope management of Microsoft may appreciate users of Skype also and hear our voice asking for option "Classic UI style" like 6.21 in current and next versions of Skype. Obviously desktops and tablets need different UI. Please remember Skype desktop users, mostly professionals and pay attention to our voice. Between other settings we need an option "Classic UI style" like 6.21 in current and next versions of Skype. I do not want to seek for Skype alternatives, I was happy with Skype until tablet style of UI became so intrusive.

  • "Skype has stopped working" Error Message Windows 8.1 Skype 7.6

Hi, I just now installed the desktop version, I was previously using the other Windows 8 version, not sure what it's called but that doesn't matter. I was trying to call my friend and it said there was a problem with my mic. Well I bought a new mic and came home and it said there was a problem with my mic. I uninstalled it and installed the desktop version, thinking it would work better, but the desktop version tells me that it cannot detect my soundcard and to reboot my laptop. Upon starting up at the welcome screen, I continued to log in, and wait for my programs to load up. I opened skype, it closes without showing up, three more times I do this before running as admin. It tries to load and then gives me the crash report "Skype has stopped working" and says windows will let me know when they find a fix.

  • Skype has stopped working - message on windows 8.1...

This error message comes out everytime I start the desktop version...
The app from windows store though works , but I do not enjoy using it at all... the desktop client was always far better.
The problem rose when I upgraded my windows 8 to 8.1 , and since then the desktop client is always forced to close with a message that it has stopped working.
I did a few things that I found reading through posts where people were looking for help with their skype issues:
    uprgraded my graphics card
    disabled my integrated webcamera
    uninstalled java
    installed older skype versions
tried to rename the roaming skype directory to old_skype
    disabled automatic updates
but... once again i'm helpless, and it seems that none of those solutions I found is at least a bit helpful for me...
I'm pretty much desperate ( I apologize if I did write my post into the wrong place)
    hope someone can help me
    Solved!

installed it but it ended with the same result

  • Skype status is always available on windows, even ...

skype status is always available on windows, even after logging out. how to fix that?

Alright, so if you have tried the previous steps and it did not work, then let's try something else.
Do you have another account? If so: Sign into the other account and add yourself. Sign back into your own account and add your other account. Sign off your main account and sign onto your other account and check your online status. If you are still online, you may have followed the previous step improperly or someone may have hijacked your account via the P2P version of Skype (which you should change your password right away so that the other user will be logged out.)
That being said, you can also have a friend or family member who has you on their contact list call you to determine if the account rings after you knowingly disconnected everywhere. If it rings, someone running under the older protocol of Skype may be utilising your account without your notice (or your account has been hijacked.)
If, in any situation, you choose to call your own account after you're knowingly offline and someone you do not know answers your call, do not attempt to acquaint with the hijacker or unknown person on your own as it may not be the best course of action to take for recovering your account. Do not interact with those you do not know and simply hang up right away if you do not feel comfortable speaking with the unknown person.
So let me run down the steps for you:
Check what others see of you.
If others still see you online and you followed the previous post completely and it still occurs, change your password immediately. Someone could be using Skype's older protocol to get into your account. Changing your password will sign them off.
Should you choose to, you can have someone call the always available account and observe the response. If someone responds and you do not know them, do not attempt to get acquainted with them.
Hopefully, this time around, this solution should help you. I know it sounds complex, but if you're saying you've tried absolutely everything else, then maybe getting creative should be pretty interesting enough to work.
