Skype 7 is a collosal disaster Make v6 available...

Version 7 has been an absolute joke from start to finish.
I now have the situation where 34 staff in my company got now not file share with skype - something that is a vital part of our internal company communications.
skype to start off with as a chat solution is absolute garbage when compared to Messenger, and just about any other chat package out there.
Every new version becomes more unstable and more unusable - I don't think I have ever seen a single program become so much worse with each release (aprt from Office 2013 maybe..)
For those of us who want a program that does simple things like....work......Microsoft needs to make the old installers available.
Problems in v7:
File sharing non functioning on multiple users (this is a massave problem looking at the number of people who post about it)
Logins falling over
Huge problems when skype accounts try talking or file sharing with Microsoft (inherited messenger) accounts - this has been a problem from day 1 with skype since messenger was shut down.
Massive memory overhead - at this moment in time my "simple" chat client is using 164mb of ram with zero conversations occuring.
The send button dissapearing unless you expand the chat box to half a screen width...handy.....
The biggest problem with Skype is the huge amount of complaints that are repeated over and over and over and Microsoft clearly don't listen to anything. And then Microsoft puts up posts saying the best way to fix things is to upgrade to the latest (even more broken) version and somehow think that this is helpful
In the last few years Microsoft has destroyed Windows, destroyed Office, and destroyed Messenger.
In the same time Apple Crap has become more and more popular - not because it is any better but because people are so sick of Microsoft changing things in the most stupid ways and making everything LESS usable.
I don't understand why there is this obsession with change for the sake of it and lets make everything harder to use because that is the way forward. The constant hiding of features or options in Microsoft products has turned perfectly usable packages with well known and intuative interfaces into near unusable piles of crap.
As a business user in the software industry, we have to keep up with all their latest products so that we know what users in the market are using - this is highly frustrating as most of us in the Office would happily sit with Windows 7 (which works), with Office 2003 (which has a usable menu) or Office 2007 (which has a crap ribbon legoland menu) but works, and with good old Mesenger (which worked)
At some point Microsoft will realise that badly copying Mac's **bleep**e isnt the way forward. Macs are for people who are clueless and like big buttons, or who have some very specific tasks. The business world, and a lot of normal users, don't want Macs legoland style interface, they want to-the-point menus without stupid pictures, just some text and SOME F******G LOGIC and guess what - we can work it out from there!!!

Please, run the DirectX diagnostics tool.

If you go into Facebook settings, in the app section under your account, and delete the skype from your facebook apps, it appears to fix this issue.

I agree with you - that's why I use Amazon's Kindle and have been using it since it came out. You can read on your Mac, your iPad, your iPhone, your Windows machine, your Android machine, etc.
I've lately even taken to buying music on Amazon versus the iTunes store. But I'll never buy an iBook - I'm sticking with Kindle.

New Skype chatt window looks horrible and make it a lot harder to use efficiantly.
I just restarted PC and got the new Skype version 6.22.0.107
To my big disappointment the new layout of the chatt conversations looks much worse that the previous version.
I use SKype everyday for work and this new layout makes it very hard to foolow long conversations.
Please add an option to get the previous version back.
If it works liek this our team has to swicth tools to something better.

How to ask a good question
Make sure to give all the pertinent information that people will need to answer your question. Questions like “I got an IO error, any ideas?” or “What’s the best technology for me to use?” will likely go unanswered, or at best just result in a request for more information. Here are some ideas of what to include:
For the “I got an IO error, any ideas?” scenario:
The exact error message. (The SQL Errorlog and Windows Event Logs can be a rich source of information. See the section on error logs below.)
What were you doing when you got the error message?
When did this start happening?
Any troubleshooting you’ve already done. (e.g. “I’ve already checked all the firmware and it’s up-to-date” or "I've run SQLIOStress and everything looks OK" or "I ran DBCC CHECKDB and the output is <blah>")
Any unusual occurrences before the error occurred (e.g. someone tripped the power switch, a disk in a RAID5 array died)
If relevant, the output from ‘DBCC CHECKDB (yourdbname) WITH ALL_ERRORMSGS, NO_INFOMSGS’
The SQL Server version and service pack level
For the “What’s the best technology for me to use?” scenario:
What exactly are you trying to do? Enable local hardware redundancy? Geo-clustering? Instance-level failover? Minimize downtime during recovery from IO errors with a single-system?
What are the SLAs (Service Level Agreements) you must meet? (e.g. an uptime percentage requirement, a minimum data-loss in the event of a disaster requirement, a maximum downtime in the event of a disaster requirement)
What hardware restrictions do you have? (e.g. “I’m limited to a single system” or “I have several worldwide mirror sites but the size of the pipe between them is limited to X Mbps”)
What kind of workload does you application have? (or is it a mixture of applications consolidated on a single server, each with different SLAs) How much transaction log volume is generated?
What kind of regular maintenance does your workload demand that you perform (e.g. “the update pattern of my main table is such that fragmentation increases in the clustered index, slowing down the most common queries so there’s a need to perform some fragmentation removal regularly”)
Finding the Logs
You will often find more information about an error by looking in the Error and Event logs. There are two sets of logs that are interesting:
SQL Error Log: default location: C:\Program Files\Microsoft SQL Server\MSSQL.#\MSSQL\LOG (Note: The # changes depending on the ID number for the installed Instance. This is 1 for the first installation of SQL Server, but if you have mulitple instances, you will need to determine the ID number you’re working with. See the BOL for more information about Instance ID numbers.)
Windows Event Log: Go to the Event Viewer in the Administrative Tools section of the Start Menu. The System event log will show details of IO subsystem problems. The Application event log will show details of SQL Server problems.

Can someone please tell me how to make Growl available to more than one user account? I have one account that I use mostly but it does not have growl anywhere that I can find. On another of my accounts it is in the systems preferences and applications folders. Both of these accounts are Admin so I don't know why I can't see the application on both.
Also can someone please tell me if I can use Growl as a notification software for phone calls. I have dial up and I miss lots of calls when I'm online so I wanted to find something that didn't cost an arm and a leg to use as a type of caller ID, notification so I can see if I miss any calls. I was told that I could do this with growl. I don't need anything with a lot of bells and whistles, just something to show who is calling so I can know who to call back when I get off line.

To be available to all users, the application must be in the main Applications folder at the root of Macintosh HD.
If it's in a User/Applications folder it will ony be available to that user.
For the notification problem I would have thought Growl's developer was the place to ask.

Convert doc to PDF and make it available for workspace

Hi,
is there a way, how to convert a doc file to PDF file and make it available for the workspace (accept - deny scenario)?
Lets say, that I have a contract that has to be approved by my manager. I convert the doc to PDF file and send it to his to-do queue. He than decides if it is a good agreement or bad one.
I see couple of tricks in this. First, the converted file needs to have process fields included, so it has to be a form.
Converted file is a flat PDF. I tried to use DDX to merge flat PDF and form with process fields, however that throwed and error.
Workaround could be creating an envelope saying, hey, look in the attachments section, there is something you need to review.
I can create an attachment in the form with DDX code, however only in the DDX UI interface, for some reason, it wont work in the process in LC.
Also, I have difficulties with routes after user hits the accept, deny buttons in workspace, nothing happens :-(
Could you please give me some advices, what kind of variables I need, what types they should be and how the process should looklike? I want to invoke it over the WSDL so at least one document has to be passed over it. The envelope can be in the resources section in LC (makes sense, but I do not know how to address it in the DDX and afterwards)

I can add the converted document to PDF as a attachment to the XDP form in the workspace.
I am strugling now with that envelope (the XDP), cant render it to PDF and than workspace enable it. I will have a look around the web because it will be there. One question is can I control permitions on the attachment? I want just read only permitions.

How to make PDFs available for viewing online only

Sorry for the odd thread title — it is the only one that makes sense.
I work for a small non-profit historical group. We are digitizing to archival standards a collection of newspapers and periodicals and want to make them available to the public. However we do not want to just put the PDF out there as that offers opportunities for theft. Some of the already released material has already been lifted from Archives.Org and is now being sold on CDs and the Internet by for-profit nefarious people.
So..., is there a way to take the PDF and have it so that it will not work unless it is viewed on our website? In other words, if a person downloads the file to their computer it will not work? I think it should be possible to include a java script routine somewhere whereby if the file is opened online, it opens. But if a person downloads it to their computer and tries to open the file and does not see a small script file, it does not open. OR, is it possible to give each file it's own certificate for online use only?

Thank you for the response George and Isakten.
I found my solution, and better yet it will not break the budget. CopySafe PDF Protector while perhaps a bit unwieldy for a first-time end user, offers all I needed. It forces the end user to add an add-on for their browser and we all know that can be difficult at best, but the program takes care of it handily.
