You have to enable it in SKYPE. Open up Sykpe click on tools then select options . When that windows opens select video settings. Then you well see select webcam click on White box select your web cam choices. Windos 7 HP computers it is called HP web camra filter. I just close out the filter stuff if I am not using it during chat session. Some HP computers call it cybrlink web cam. If your web cam isn't listed yet the web cam still works in other applications your Skype software might be corrupted. Just uninstall Sykpe and reinstated it back with a new copy download http://www.skype.com/en/download-skype/skype-for-computer/ If you are still having issues please let us know. Thank you frrw.

Skype not recognising web camera

I have tried everything to get skype to recognise my web cam again. It used to work fine in a previous version of skype but now nothing seems to work. I have tried reverting back to an earlier version and only get the message "page not found". Skype does recognise the microphone in my camera so I am able to do NO VIDEO calls, but I have seen sooooooo many complaints about this problem with sooooo many ideas from people trying to help and NOTHING works. The suggestion that going back to an earlier version is STUPID. You tell me I have to go back in time to fix YOUR **bleep**up. All I want to do is use Skype free to call video like I used to be able to do. Why does this program recognise the mic in my camera and NOT the camera.......... My suggestion is that Skype should be promoting OTHER free to call programs from other companies, as they dont seem to care about what caused this problem to happen to so many people, and seem uninterested in fixing the problem.. Screen share and simultaneous web cam

Hi all,
I have a 7 day trial premium account. When I make a video call and then share my screen, my video feed is then turned off. Is this functioning as designed?
When looking for an answer to this question I was under the impression that both screen share and web cam (from one caller) could be used simulataneously.
I am using Windows 7 with Skype version: 6.11.0.102. My Skype app says this is latest version although it looks like 6.13 is now avaialble...

Airport base Station and Wireless Web cams

I just tried to take a free CNET online course that purported to show me, step by step, how to set up a wireless Web cam with an Internet connection. Yea, right. I found that it was totally geared to PC users and almost no information was provided for us. Even the suggested hardware manufacturers (Linksys) said they didn't support Macs.
I have Airport card and base station and need to set up 2-3 outdoor security cams around a home in a remote location. Can anyone advise me along these lines?

Have you considered using Security Spy? http://www.securityspy.com/
They claim to support many wireless cameras....but it doesn't appear Linksys is one of them. Linksys historically doest not provide any Mac support, and I have personally learned to no longer support companies that don't provide some type of Mac support. (I've been a fan of Linksys historically, untill recently)
I hope Security spy works for you - let us know how it works out.

Normally, if my tablet is unable to play videos or live cams, I get an error message that provides me with details as to what needs to be downloaded. Two questions.
If I am looking at an apple isight on ebay is there a way to tell how old it is by model #? is there a batch that I would want to pick over another?
Is there a link or web page that tells which usb webcams are most compatible w/ macs.

The M8817LL started being sold around july 2003. The M9330LL was sold around Jan 2006. That makes it a newer version of the iSight external camera. Here are the links to Amazon for both cameras You can see the specs and differences there.

Isight compatability with PC and other web cam

I have just bought a powerbook and isight to use for VC abroad. I tried to conduct a VC with a friend who has a PC and it said that I did not respond. Can you use isight to VC with a PC or is it just apple to apple?

iChat will work with many cameras not just iSight.
MAc to PC need the PC to be using AIM 5.9 or Trillian whilst running XP. (AOL's Triton does not work with other Apps yet)
The AIM is free and the Trilian cost $25 for the Pro Video capable version.
AIM need setting up with Tuning These instructions work for AIM 5.5 as described in the link and AIM 5.9 but access to the 5.9 properties is via My AIM menu > Options > Properties and not as described in he link.
Both AIM and Trillian need enabling through the XP firewall. Service Pack 2 instructions here AIm is described but just do the same for Trillian.

The IP address should be the IP address of the computer that should receive your transmission. If you want all the computers on your subnet to receive the transmission, then use 255 as the last number in your IP address. For example, "192.168.1.40" can be used for a point to point transmission and "192.168.1.255" can be used for all computers that are on your subnet. .
The base Port number can be any port number that is not in use by any other service on your computer. For example, you can use "22222". Make sure that it is an even number. The first media track will be transmitted from the base port number. The next track will go to base port number plus 2 and so on.

Flash player and second web cam

I'm trying to use a different webcam with adobe flash player. I'm not able to switch to the alternate webcam( which is a usb webcam). Anyone know how to do this? I've launched iChat to make sure it could see both iSight and the magic webcam, and it does allow me to use either one.

Toshiba Portege Problem: *Battery is not charging and web camera initialization failed.*

Hi,
I am having problems with my Toshiba Portege laptop. 1) Once laptop opens, window appears which says, "Web camera initialization failed. Please check your camera device and restart application or computer." Not sure what happened why the web cam application did not run properly. 2) Battery won't charge. When clicking the battery icon, it just says, "0% available plugged in, charging." I can not open my laptop when the cord is unplugged.

some web cams on USB ports do take some time
been initialised especially when attached via hub.
Windows boot sequences do not wait until they finished.
if the camera is working after a while than thats here the
case despite that message and it can be ignored.

forget the software symbol for the purpose of the question -
on any notebook you should see a battery symbol/LED
somewhere on the case. its yellowish/orange when
charging green when battery is full. if it doesn't change into green
(overnight charging) the battery is faulty or even missing...

Also check the BIOS, on some models there is an option to disable the Webcam in the BIOS.
And also ensure Skype, Messenger, or other programs that use the webcam are not running, only one application can use the webcam at a time.

WEb camera initializtion failed in Satellite P750-114

Dear All,
I am facing a problem with the web camera in my Toshiba Satellite P750-114. The laptop is less than two months old and the web camera was working fine, then it suddenly stopped working. The error message is "Web camera initialization failed. Please check your camera device and restart application or computer". The Microphone stopped working as well, as it is related to the web camera device. The operating system is Windows 7 64bits. It seems that the operating system is not seeing that there is a webcam anymore. I tried the following things:
1- I uninstalled the web camera driver, downloaded the most recent driver from Toshiba website (the link is http://uk.computers.toshiba-europe.com/innovation/jsp/supportMyProduct.do?service=UK) , and installed it, but it did not work.
2- I restored the original setting for the laptop, but still the web camera is not working.
Two ways I am using to test the web camera: the Skype and "Web Camera Application" from Start/Toshiba/Utilities
Please if someone has any idea on how to resolve this problem, the laptop is band new and it is fantastic, but this problem is annoying. I searched the Internet for similar problems, some Toshiba models suffer from this problem but not P750-114,

Generally speaking, after recovery image installation all hardware components should be recognized and installed properly so with this factory settings everything should work as on the day after you purchased your notebook and started it for the first time.
If the cam doesn't work with factory settings I can imagine there is some hardware problem.
I recommend you to contact nearest Toshiba service provider and ask for help. They can check cam functionality using their diagnostic tools and exchange cam if necessary.
Of course it will be covered by valid warranty.

Web camera Quit

Please Help! I'm a soldier away from home and I just want to see my family. The last time I was gone (6 months ago) I was able to use my Web Camera on Skype. I've never had problems with it. I just called them on skype and now my Camera isn't working. I tried run Camera Assistant Software and get a :Webcam is either disabled or has failed.

If your webcam is working fine in other applications, except in Skype or Face Recognition, it is not a hardware problem. It is some kind of software or update problem. You could look at your Windows Update history, and/or try to think about any software, or software update, you may have loaded that might use the webcam and try uninstalling that.
If nothing comes to mind, let's try to reload your core set of drivers, and your webcam driver/utility once more. Download these drivers to your desktop and double click on them to install in this order:
Intel Chipset SW Installation Utility for Windows XP/7 (32/64)
Intel Rapid Storage Technology Driver for Windows XP/7 (32/64)
Intel Turbo Boost Technology Driver for Windows XP/7 (32/64)
Intel Display Driver for Windows 7 (64)(v8.15.10.1986)
You need to check which sound driver you have, it could be either of these, load the appropriate sound driver next, then your webcam utility:
Realtek Audio Driver for Windows 7 (32/64)
nVidia HD Audio Driver for Windows 7 (32/64)
Toshiba Web Camera Driver-Application
