Skype call not connecting between 2 Windows 8.1 ma...

I have two Windows 8.1 computers, both bought brand new in August. We can not get them to connect to each other at ALL. Both accounts were converted from Skype name to MS Accounts. We have been having to switch to competing products to talk 90%+ of the time.
I don't see any way to diagose the problems within Skype.
When I attempt to call, I don't hear any ringing noise most of the time and it just shows "connecting..." Then I get a "call, no answer" in my chat screen. The other end may or may not have any ringing.
If the other end calls me. It rings, I answer, it shows their profile picture but no audio or video passes and then after 20 seconds or so it says "We're trying to get the call back..." and then fails.
Both ends are behind NAT firewalls. One end is a home and the other a university. Competing products work.
I feel like I have been transported back to the mid-90s with netmeeting.
What can I do to fix it/troubleshoot it?

Still having issues. No help provided. Anyone out there?
Hope to try today by using a different network and this weekend by being on the same network. Are there any troubleshooting statistics that Skype used to have available in monitoring or elsewhere to see dropped packets and the like to see what and where the problem lies?

Hello All, I have a Skype number and am travelling in Europe. My wifi is working and I can email, make calls via Skype, etc. I just can't get incoming calls. I do get emails saying that I missed a call and people that call me then text me and say that my phone number goes to voice mail. I have already uninstalled the app and reinstalled it per Skype support. This did not work. Not sure what to try next. This did work when I was in the US - I tested it by calling from another line. I uninstalled and reinstalled sype many times, installed the last version, I tried all suggestions in the FAQ,, same result:

My imac running lion can not connect to a Windows PC on my network

My imac runing lion 10.7 can not connect to my Windows 7 pc on my network. When i select connect to server, I can see the windows computer but when i try to connect, i get the error message:
Connection failed. There was a problem connecting to the server. Ther server may not exist or is unavailable at this time. Check the server name or IP address, check your network connection and try again.
I entered smb:// computer name and I tried smb://IP address. Neither would connect.
I am able to connect to the imac from my Window PC and access files but not I can not connect my iMac to the Windows PC.
I am trying to connect the two computers so that I can use a printer that is attached to the Windows 7 pc.
When I first downl;oaded and installed Lion, I was able to connect to the Windows 7 pc and use the printer attached to it.
I have tried 5 or 6 different suggestions to no avail. Both computers are up to date and the printer drivers are up to date.
Please let me know if there is a solution.

Be sure to make the network Workgroup name on the Mac and Windows boxes the same.
On the Mac it is in System Preferences, Network Preferences, Advanced, WINS
On the Windows machine check in the Control Panel where you will also find the Computer name listed. I don't have my PC running right now, so I am not sure exactly where it is. Only assign a Workgroup, do not create a Domain.
You can also search in Windows for Workgroup.
I can link/network Lion to Win7 and vice versa without any problems.

Bluetooth speaker does not connect automatically in windows 8.1

before the upgrade (?) to 8.1,if i turned on my bluetooth speaker,it automatically took over from the speakers of my laptop.No drivers,no further changes needed.
After upgrading to 8.1 i have to disconnect the speaker,connect it again,then set the speaker as my standard speaker.then it plays.every time again and again.

I've learned while being a part of a smaller market share having had a Windows Phone for several years now, the solutions come quietly and sometimes go unnoticed. Only later will I find myself thinking, "Oh yeah it works now, they've created a solution".
Case in point: Red Laser stopped working then shortly thereafter there was the Eye icon available at the Bing screen that can scan just about anything that can be scanned. Is there a similar thing happening with my Bluetooth device drivers from my 8.1
PC and I need to manually push something? When there is a solution, will you please alert me and the rest of this thread? Thanks much in advance!

Same problem here. I have skype on my Win7pc and Win8.1 on my laptop...but my win7 won't connect...but on my Win8.1 on my laptop its working fine. I'm unistalling and reinstalling skype on Win7 but even the installation is taking longer than usual. Internet connection is fine and I'm even on my pc right now logging in to the skype website and there are no issues. Only with skype desktop. I'm not linked to my Windows account and I don't want to change my password because I login using facebook which means I have to change Facebook password too. Anybody have any solutions yet?

Please logon the problematic computer by using that user who was redirected My Documents folder, then run
gpupdate /force command and monitor the result.

Please type
regedit in Run to open Registry Editor and follow the path:
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\User Shell Folders\Personal
HKEY_CURRENT_USER \Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\Shell Folders\Personal
Please check if Value data was set to correct path.

Video calls not working on upgraded windows 8.1

Hi,
I upgraded my desktop to windows 8.1 and I have problems with Skype since. Whenever I make a video call the persons I call can't see me, I can see them though. Also the little window for my video doesn't show on the screen while I'm on the video call.
I upgraded from windows 7. My camera is a Logiteck QuickCam Communicate STX my system: AMD Pahntom II X6 (CPU) , ASUS M5A99X EVO AM3+ motherboard, 8GB of RAM. In the device manager the driver for my camera seems to be ok.
Also if I use google hangouts the videochat works just fine.
Please help.

I'm using last version of skype 6.10, windows 8.1, new toshiba laptop...and I can't see other person and can't see myself in little window on skype...but other person can see me...on old pc - old is perfect.

Skype Calls not received when MacBook Air is asleep

My MacBook Air is running Mountain Lion OS 10.8.5 with Skype 6.14. Skype video calls are received normally with notification sounds as long as the MacBook Air is not asleep. It will also receive a video call one time while asleep if Skype has first been restarted. After that when the MacBook goes back to sleep a Skype call is ignored. I haven't been able to solve this by changing Energy Saver settings in OS System Preferences or anything in Skype Preferences. I tried deleting the Skype Preferences file plist but this didn't make a difference. Could this be related to the loss of Skype sound problem widely reported? Has anyone else had this problem? Any ideas on how to fix this would be appreciated.

Update - I ended up spending about an hour on the phone with a very helpful rep from AppleCare. He was also stumped by this problem. We ended up solving it by using a remote screen-share app that allowed him to see what my video card was sending to the external display, and he directed me over the phone to change the settings (quite funny really - it was literally "move your mouse up a tiny bit, now click, now left, etc).
So, my problem is solved for now, albeit in a very cumbersome way. Still amazed that there's no way to fix this properly.

Could not connect to X11 windows server

I am using OVM Server 2.2.1. I am having one VM which has Oracle VM template 10.2.0.4.
I want to start GUI and install another Database. I have export DISPLAY variable to localhost and then try to start DBCA but failed to start and giving error. "Could not connect X11 server".
I have tried below items:
1- I have already stop "service iptables and ip6tables".
2- I also did "/etc/inittab - run level 5" but still not able to start GUI.
3- I already doing "xhost +" but also giving error " unable to get display of "localhost". or I already give the localhost IP Address also. Still is failed to get the display.
4- I also try to open "vncviewer" but its not giving the display also.
5- there is not any /etc/gdm directory.
Any idea how to enable display on this?
