Skype Call Quality Terrible on Windows 8.1

I really need help. I think I'm gong to lose it here.
I can't afford a cell phone at the moment. So I'm relying on Skype Calling to make calls.
Yes, my router is brand new. The brandwidth appears to be ok with the recent test showing 2Mbps download, and 0.57 upload. I know, not the greatest. But this should be enough to operate Skype calling, right?
This is a brand new computer, with Windows 8.1. I have looked at my CPU and have gotten it down to 2-3% while operating Skype - But still - the phone quality is useless and no one can ever hear me.
I can usually hear the person on the other end 100% fine, but they can barely hear my voice, it just breaks up intensely. My headset is new. I have eliminated the headset, wifi connection, router, or CPU being the problem... Where does that leave me, and how on earth can I PLEASE get my phone quality to work??
I have also tried downloading the latest Skype for Windows 8, and using the Skype 'Application' program that comes with my new Windows computer. Never running them at the same time. Like I said, even with my CPU being at 2%, it won't work. Both programs have the same result, every one says my voice breaks up too much to hear anything.
I'm so tired of not being able to communicate with any one.. it's depressing, and exhausting.. I hope some kind person out there can help me with this.
Thank you.

Really, no one can please help me with this? Three days later.. still screwed. sitting here like a duck on Christmas even and can't even talk to my own Mother.. Wow, I can't believe no one is willing to help here...

  • Disable Call Quality Feedback

Morning all, Does anyone know how to disable the call quality feedback that keeps popping up after making a call. I use skype for business purposes and have the call quality feedback box popping up all the time. Very frustrating. Can anyone assist please??? Thank you in advamce!

    Dear Skype support,
I have a huge problem with your Skype call quality feedback. I use Skype to talk with my friends and play together full screen games online like CallofDuty7 BlackOps. We have a big community and we have our own discussion which we never leave, we use it to talk while we play the game together (instead of the game team speak). We do this all the time but with your new add "call quality feedback" popup window it throws me and my team mates out in Windows to ask us about the quality of the conversation. This happens everytime someone from the group decides to end call, while the caller and everyone else are still talking on the discussion. This interrupt out game and sometimes the game even crash and Skype ruin the experience with this unwanted and offensive popup. Please fix this problem at your next version of Skype or me and everybody else I know that is a Skype lover but have a problem with your harrasing way to ask people about every conversation - we will leave Skype and go on something else. I have friends, family and co-workers that use this to contact me and they all would change Skype with something else just because I cant stop this harrasment !
    Best regards,
    Yours truly user.

  • Hardware to Maximize Skype Video Call Quality

Looking to build two Windows desktop computers solely to Skype between them.  Both machines will have Internet at 20 Mbps up and down, and two-to-three selectable (one-at-a-time) webcams per machine.  Want to absolutely maximize video call quality; audio and overall cost are less important.  What specifications for the motherboards/cards/webcams would you suggest?  Suggestions of brand and model are acceptable, but detailed specifications are more important.  Replies very much appreciated.

I answered a similar question to this in the past, so you may find this thread helpful:
    http://community.skype.com/t5/Hardware/Buying-Computer-for-Skype/m-p/1662779/highlight/true#M4076
Do understand that unless you have something managing the feed for multiple webcams/video feeds prior to coming into your machine, the load will be put on your processor.  Webcams can be very resource demanding.  If you chose to run multiple versions of Skype that may be as well.  I wouldn't expect 1080p or in some cases HD video in scenarios where you may be taxing even a very fast processor.  Since there can be many variables it's hard to say what will work in your scenario.

  • Skype 7.x missing "Check call quality" icon

    Hi,
In old version, next to the "add participants" icon, it have a call quality check icon, which i can check the "Connection speed in between me and other side.
In new Skype 7.x, i cannot find anymore, only found this icon when already startup the call.
Where i can check call quality before the call startup

Try to reset all Skype settings.
Quit Skype or use Windows Task Manager to kill any Skype.exe process. Go to Windows Start and in the Search/Run box type %appdata% and then press Enter or click the OK button. The Windows File Explorer will pop up. There locate a folder named “Skype”. Rename this folder to something different, e.g. Skype_old.
Next go to Windows Start and in the Search/Run box type %temp%\skype and then press Enter or click the OK button. Delete the DbTemp folder.
    Restart Skype.
N.B. If needed, you will still be able to re-establish your call and chat history. All data is still saved in the Skype_old folder.

  • Terrible call quality disappoints

I LOVE my new Charge as a device (except for the terrible battery life, but I can work around that) but am finding the call quality here in Dallas to be unacceptable. Callers are frequently asking me to repeat myself and calls are dropping. Usually I can hear callers fine, but on two occasions they became so garbled I had to get off the phone and use google voice on my computer. I am within my 14 day window with the device and am considering either getting a different device or just switching back to Sprint which is starting to look pretty good from here. I thought switching to Verizon would be a step up. And of course, with Sprint I had complete google voice integration. Any advice?

Well, I don't LOVE my charge but I do like it - I have had it for a week.  Except that Verizon seems to like giving you features on a phone and then slowly taking them away and making you pay for them (tethering, encoding voicemail passwords, tiered usage plans, etc) which isn't related to the individual phone.  That being said, my Charge's call quality is really bad at various times in places where I have always gotten great reception.  I have tried *228 but it doesn't make a difference.  At the VW store, they all acted like they had never heard about bad call quality with the charge.  So they ordered me a new (refurbished) phone.  I went through multiple HTC Tbolts with the last one being unable to latch onto a GPS signal before they decided to move me over to the Charge.  Now I have my doubts about this phone... We'll see tomorrow when the "new" charge comes in the mail.

  • While in a Skype call in Windows 8, the volume of other sounds lowers

    Hi everyone,
I am reposting an issue ride is experiencing when using Skype in Windows 8. Ride writes:
I am having a problem when using Skype as well.  While taking a Skype call, sounds on other programs are lowered in volume.  I have selected "do nothing" in the sound card communications settings section, but the problem still persists.  Is there any way to fix this?  I am using windows 8 with a Compaq CQ45 computer.
    Hi ride,
I've noticed that the Skype app on the Windows 8 Start screen does not do all the things that the desktop version of Skype for Windows 8 does. I heartily recommend installing the desktop version of Skype, as well as the Start screen app, and logging in to both. That way you'll still get updates in your live tile on the Start screen, and you will still be able to get voice messages on your desktop version of Skype. It's the best of both worlds.
I managed to listen to an online radio station full blast while making a Skype call. Here's what I did:
First, I installed both the Skype app and the desktop version of Skype for Windows 8 (get the directions in the Installing and setting up Skype for Windows 8 and the Installing and setting up Skype for Windows desktop sections of the Using Skype to Make Voice and Video Internet Calls (Windows 8) document.)
Then, like you, I selected the Do nothing radio button on the Communications tab of Sound menu (press the Windows + W keys; type Sound into the search field; and then click Sound in the search results.) I then restarted my computer.
I made a Skype call using the desktop version, and then made a new Skype call from the Start menu app. That's when I started noticing that the volume of the radio station was not reduced. Also, when a friend sent an instant message, I heard the little ping sound full blast.
I'm not entirely sure why that all worked, but it did, and I hope it works for you, too. Will you reply to this post to let me know if it helps you?

  • Skype call share screen not working on Windows 7

To see the Skype version, in Skype open Help -> About Skype.

Hello Skype community! I have a little bit of a problem with my share screen function. This is on Windows 7, and it used to be fine before. My friend's screen, (We'll call her Flower for now), can show up just fine on my screen. But Flower cannot see my screen on her skype call.  Screenshot Flower's Laptop is also running Windows 7. I've tried quitting Skype, and even re-downloading it. Sadly, I'm not so sure what version of Skype Flower's running, or mine. Any help is appreciated!

  • Windows XP sounds muted after skype call

I have been running skype on my wndows XP system with no problem until today. I've recently updated to the latest skype (ver.7.2) and just made my first skype call since the update.
What happened after the call is that all windows sounds have gone mute.
I've checked all sound settings both in skype and XP, rebooted the system - nothing helps.
But i've noticed a weird thing - when I start a skype call (e.g. sound testing service) all sounds come back on! When I end the call, the system goes mute again....
Any ideas on how to solve the problem? I'm pretty sure it's a glitch of the latest skype version. Is there a way to roll back to the previous version?

I have the same problem since using Skype yesterday on a laptop running Windows XP. Skype is the only program that seems to be able to produce any sound, both with onboard speakers and headphones. Does this have anything to do with the latest Skype update?

  • Skype calls not coming through on Windows Phone 8....

Hello All, I have a Skype number and am travelling in Europe. My wifi is working and I can email, make calls via Skype, etc. I just can't get incoming calls. I do get emails saying that I missed a call and people that call me then text me and say that my phone number goes to voice mail. I have already uninstalled the app and reinstalled it per Skype support. This did not work. Not sure what to try next. This did work when I was in the US - I tested it by calling from another line. Regards, Rob

  • Recording Skype Calls on Windows 8?

Hey guys, I just updated to Skype 7.0 on my Windows 8 Pro PC. I just wanted to know how I can record Skype conversations for free. Is there a "built-in" feature to Windows 8 Pro I can use?
    Thanks!

There is unfortunately not any built in feature/program to windows 8 that I am aware of.
I tend to use a program called Camtasia but there is one which I have not tried called Adobe Captivate 8 http://thankyou.adobe.com/en/au/products/CP/v4/1106_captivate.html?sdid=KHSMT&skwcid=AL!3085!3!45057...
Unfortunately most programs like these are costly and most come with a free trial

  • My LG G3 has terrible call quality.

My LG G3 has terrible call quality. It's fine for first few minutes, but after about 5-10 minutes of call, the person I'm speaking to can't hear me because my sound becomes jittery and /or fades out. I can hear them fine but they can't hear me.

You might Try pulling out the Battery and then removing the sim card for about 10 min. then re-install the Card and re-power the phone see if your call Quality improves..
Note: remove and re-in-stall the card with caution Sim Cards are extremely sensitive in the Gold contact Area..

  • Skype Calls messing with Windows sounds

Dear community,Lately I've been having some trouble with Skype, mostly related to sounds. The first thing that I noticed is that it won't allow most songs in my music folders to be played: an error message appears in Media Player as if the file is not executable. Thing is, some songs will play after trying once or twice. Also, the songs that weren't "executable" will play on the first attempt after the Skype call is ended.Another thing I've come to notice is that sometimes, when a Skype call is happening, my Steam games will launch with no sound whatsoever, and it won't return unless I end the call and re-launch the game. The third thing that is bugging me is that Bandicam will fail to record any sounds if I'm in a Skype call. As soon as I end the call and re-launch Bandicam, however, it will record any and all sounds with no issues.Does anybody know how to fix this or what's causing this? It's really a pain, since I can't record, game or even listen to anything while also talking to my friends. Thank you.

Try to uninstall McAfee SiteAdvisor. http://service.mcafee.com/faqdocument.aspx?id=TS100162

  • Data used for a 25 minute skype call

    Hello,
I am using skype 7.0 for windows PC to make 25 minute skype calls for work. I am just on an 800mb limit per day. According to my ISP's Web site, 800 mb is enough to make 4.5 hours of skype calls. But I saw that for just one skype call, my statistics tab showed I consumed about 350+mb already after just one 25 minute skype call. So if this is the case for every skype call I make, I can only make 2-3 25 minute skype calls before my ISP limits my internet usage for the day.
How much data is used for 1 25 minute skype call using PC ?
I think my ISP's Web site is misleading about skype calls.
    Solved!

You can still have your video on and your student can have their video off.  If they "call" you instead of "video call" you, their video will never be engaged and you can just turn your video on from that point.  The big problem with ISP bandwidth restrictions is that their limitation tends to count upload and download which greatly reduces your overall real bandwidth.  You can use this as a guide as well to guesstimate.
    http://community.skype.com/t5/Windows-archive/Bandwidth-Consumption-Question-Again/m-p/2887243/highl...
Be aware that this only accounts for one-way communication.  If you were to both have your video on at the same quality the figure would double.  If your student only has audio engaged then you would only add 25 minutes of "äudio" to gauge an approximation.  Since Skype is "automatic" call quality can go up or down.  Netlimeter or it's equivalent is the only real way to lower the video quality other than using a much lower resolution camera.
In regards to your ISP's "video conferencing" calculation, it's not pulled out of a hat.  It appears to be calculated off a total video conferencing rate of 384k which is generally at a CIF/SIF resolution (~352x288 or lower).  Skype's video quality operates at a higher rate that even supersedes their 90-minute movie estimate they provided as well.  If you were to compare either a 90-minute DVD quality video or a 90-minute Blu-ray quality video the bandwidth would of course be surpassed as well as downloaded/watched movies vary in quality as well.
I believe the average amount of bandwidth consumption for typical households can be upwards of 150-300+ Gigabytes a month.  Low metered accounts are generally for mobile devices or people who don't plan to use the Internet beyond basic web searching and e-mail.  I personally would use a plan like that to get Internet in remote places but I wouldn't plan to do anything beyond the basics.
In regards to overage of bandwidth consumption ISPs either:
    1.  Terminate the data service for the month when exceeded
    2.  Charge you overage charges at a set cost per MB or GB.
    3.  Allow you to continue to use the service but cap your Internet speed to twice that of dial-up (115kbp/s) or possibly even lower.
