  • Fresh Install of Win XP Pro SATA Driver's don't work

    Hello
I apologise first of all if this is posted in the wrong forum but as this is the motherboard I am using here goes: ( System configuration is in signature)
I recently purchased a Seagate SATA HDD 160gb and fitted to the VIA 8237 chipset Sata_1 connection. Then the problems begin...
SATA is enabled in the BIOS onchip (not the Promise controller)
Press F6 during installation of Win XP Pro and install VIA 8237 SATA RAID driver - from USB external floppy drive - for Win XP and continue installation. After Formatting the hard drive the installation now asks for me to insert the diskette again and press enter 'Please insert the VIA Combo RAID Driver Diskette', and I do so and press enter...nothing happens!!! I have tried using the disk provided with the board and have also made a disk from the drives at the MSI website, both to no avail.
I have also tried this process with the Promise controller i.e. attaching the drive to the Ser_3 connection and installing the drivers from the floppy during XP install and yet again I am requested to insert the floppy labelled Promise 579/518 Controller, and again when I do nothing happens.
I would appreciate any help you could give as I now have no PC to use and want to get this sorted asap.
    Thanks

I have always left the floppy in the drive from boot, only trying otherwise when it kept failing. However could it be to do with the fact this is an external Floppy drive connected by USB that it wont take it? I notice there is not any activity from the floppy drive, no matter whether I take the disk out and re-insert or just leave it there.

  • I cannot acess files onmy Win XP Pro server from my three win 8.1 umits

Okay, I'm finally off of most of the medicinal drugs and I still cannot get my share/use commands to work.
My environment is 4 PCs local network (one win 8.1 laptop (wireless), one win 8.1 desktop (hardwired and wireless), one win 8.1 tablet (wireless) and one win XP Pro - SP3 desktop (wireless) - the drive is an NTFS formatted drive.
On the in XP server with simple file sharing turned "OFF", I created a net user command that added a user.  I set a password for this account and then the /add: operator. I used the /homedir: option to set the home
directory to the root directory of drive "C".  I used the Net localgroup command to move don.farr into the administrator group.  Both commands execute properly on the XP server.  I also issue a net share command to share the root directory
    of drive "C".
Using the laptop (Win 8.1) I do a net use command with the password for the drive appended to the end of the net use command.
When I try to access the files on my z: drive, I get "access denied" messages regardless of which method I use to get to the data files.  For example, using "cmd" I switch to z: and cd into the root directory.  I can do
a "dir"and see all the files, but if I try to do a "type" or even open the file with notepad (example "autoexc.bat") I get an access denied message.
Now, just to make matters more interesting, if I do "remote access", I can get to the drive and do just about anything I want to.  Also, if I issue a "Net Session" command, I will see the user (don.farr) as a listed user but instead
of seeing the proper fullname. I do see the IP address followed by the user name.
On the win XP Pro system, if I issue the Net user command, I see user set up in the administrator group.
So I ask, what in the world am I doing wrong that is preventing my in 8.1 from full access to my in XP Pro drive.
This only became an issue of late because I am recovering from knee surgery and my ability to move to the different computers is a severe challenge at this immediate point in time.
    Please help me!

The most probable reason  stems from difference between SMB versions. W XP is SMB 1 and W 7 and 8.x are 2 or more. Lower higher version Windows to lower SMB. Sometimes other configuration items may play the role, namely
autotuning. Also versio 6.x Wiindows has different mechanism for neighbor discovery.
Root directory is usually shared by default and is accessible to local administrator.
I do recommend to place your question into public forum answers.microsoft.com

  • 10g shared install on Win XP Pro

    Hi,
I would like to make my 10g DB env (DB & Software) available to all users having an Win account on this computer (i.e., local sharing; no network access).
How to do so on Win XP Pro ?
I tried to install in "C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Documents" but the OUI does not want blank spaces in pathnames ? I tried using double-quoting but it rejects it too ? How to solve this ?
    Thanks in advance.

I found this other post (Thread: New install 10G on XP professional) with the same problem.
Using Firefox instead of IE solved the problem.
I tried changing the security settings and pop up blocker settings but still could not get IE to work. If anyone knows what to change on IE to get it to work I'm curious. Other than wasting 3 hours of my life I'm good.
    Thanks.

  • J2EE Install Problems - Win XP Pro

I have been trying to install J2EE 1.4 on my Win XP Pro machine. Each time the installing hangs on the "Selection Installation Directory" screen. I have tried to install to a different location (d:\usr\bin\Sun\AppServer) as well as just accept the default.
The symptom is that you click "next" and the bottom row buttons stop interacting - the browse button still works as does the close button (allows me to close the installer nicely).
I have looked in my %TEMP% directory and have found no log errors and don't see any other location where log files are stored or Java errors are being raised.
I have tried this with the bundled installer as well as the individual AppServer installer - both have the same issue.
Any help would be appreciated - I could not find a similar issue searching the forums or through google.
    Jeff

This sounds like productregistry deadlock problem and you should be able to resolve it using the procedure described in this article:

  • Any recommendations on how to do a clean install of Win 7 Pro OA?

Hey Guys, I just got my new x201 and I'm looking to do a clean install of windows 7 pro (oa)
any ideas on how to do it without using the rescue and recovery? im trying to avoid all the factory programs being installed, so i dont want to use the rescue and recovery option. my main concern is activation, but im also wondering what CD/DVD i would use to install the OEM/OA version since it didnt come with any media. does lenovo provide this if i need? i can already see performance decrease in some applications, and in just general use of the computer. any help would be GREATLY appreciated.
i was also wondering if it would be a big deal if i got an SSD for this laptop, would thre be any activation issues with the OEM/OA version?
    thanks in advance
    nick

Another note Rescue and Recovery can create OS only disks instead of just factory reset and can also create as is which copies exactly how the PC is now. Not sure why no one on this forum knows that or atleast does not tell anyone. weird. Those options are under the create disks tab. Great for like what your needing to do. Install all the programs and make the as is disk to put on all 99 other PCs. Cheers! EDIT note: Nevermind my useless info posted above. I just confused R&R with OKR AGAIN. Does someone know how to use R&R that could post info. Can R&R create disks of the system as is like OKR can?

  • OSX Lion cannot be installed on used macbook pro

    Dear all,
I inherited an old used macbook pro (2009 model) from a colleague.  He cleaned it and it was ready to reinstall when I received it.  I purchased a new OSX Lion set to install.  As the macbook is a present for my daughters birthday, I purchased the software on het apple ID.
When installing (after entering the related apple ID) I get the following message:
This product is currently not available. Try again later.
Can I solve this without having to go to an Apple dealer.  My girls birthday is this Friday, and I'd like to have the macbook ready before that date.
    Thanks!

In order to install Lion (which all 2009 MBPs are capable of) you need to have Snow leopard (10.6.8) installed first.  The simplest path is to order this disk from Apple:
    http://store.apple.com/us/product/MC573Z/A/mac-os-x-106-snow-leopard
    Then download the combo update:
    http://support.apple.com/kb/DL1399
Then the MBP will be ready for a Lion install.
    Ciao.

  • Installing on Win XP Pro

Is there a set of developer's tools or something that will install on XP Pro SP2 with no trouble? I'm looking for something that will give me at least a basic download of Oracle so I can learn it and practice working with it, and then later develop front end apps in Java and .Net. 10g doesn't install. I've only got a desktop machine with XP. Don't understand yet what the deal is with loop back plugs, etc. Just want to install some version of Oracle so I can practice and learn. Suggestions?
    Thanks much in advance.

What product stack (and version) of 10g family are you trying to install and what is the error or problem you are seeing?

  • HUAWEI E303F Software is not installing in Win 8 pro when iam pluged into usb port help me

iam using windows 8 pro but huawei e303f is not installing the software but it works on win7 help me please......................

On Windows8, often it is not required to install software/drivers for mobile broadband devices, because Windows8 already has many such drivers and features included.
Windows8 will also contact windowsupdate.com to download missing drivers, in many cases.
    Or, you could try:
    http://consumer.huawei.com/en/support/products/downloads/detail/index.htm?id=18474&pro=E303Fs
For further assistance, contact your mobile internet provider/supplier, or, the manufacturer of the device:

  • Can't log into Ent.Man after 10g install on win xp pro.

I've been reading posts about this all day but still can't login.
I followed the instructions and installed a loopback adapter first.
    10.10.10.10
    255.255.255.0
Then I ran the install and that went fine.
The services are started, DBConsole service, listener service, oracle service, sqlplus service.
I followed the instructions and checked the local security policy for the "log on as a batch job" policy.
I can log into sqlplus with sysman/password that I created during the install.
Followed the instructions to make sure the accounts were unlocked with sqlplus.
Through internet explorer the login page comes up fine for
    http://kir_64xp:1158/em
http://kir_64xp:5500/em - the second database I created with the database config assistant
    http://10.10.10.10:5500/em
If I try to login with sys as normal, I get a message telling me to log in with sys as sysdba.
When I change to that it just refreshes and comes back to the login screen - no error.
If I try sysman as normal it just refreshes back to the login screen.
If I try sysman as sysdba then I get the error that I am using an incorrent username password.
If I use the administration assitant for windows I can connect to both of the databases with sysman or using OS authentications as sysdba.
I disabled my firewall software - that didn't help.
    Any information would be appreciated,
    Thanks.

  • 8i Personal or Standard Install on Win 2K Pro

Help!!! I've been trying to install the CD Trial pack and keep running into the same problem. Everytime I start either the setup program or the autorun program it loads the menu, allows me to use the browse or documentation functions, but when I click on the install/deinstall button, the program stops without displaying/generating an error message. It doesn't lock my system up, just quits.
I've tried copying the files to my hard drive, and even download the nt817personal.zip file from the net, but that has the same problem.
I've got 384 MB of RAM and 50 GB of hard disk (one NTFS partition) so those shouldn't be a problem.
The oracle web page has the following address listed but my e-mails bounce back [email protected] Does anyone know what the correct address is? OTN sent me this address, [email protected], but that bounces back too.
Any help you can provide would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.

  • Trying to install on Win 7 Pro 64 and import Outlook 2003 settings

Thunderbird installs and looks like it's importing everything but only mail is and nothing for settings or filters. In fact I can't find a means to even add the e-mail account settings. This is nothing like my older versions of Thunderbird were but that's been a few years ago. I could use some advice. I'm trying to install version 24.6.0

Ok Tools menu > account setting. To check that no account settings come over. The absence of an account in the left hand pane is no indication nothing transferred.
Tools menu > import to import individual components such as address books that did not import. If you have had a partial import, avoid the everything option, as it is not going to work for you.

  • Client 11gR2 install on Win 7 Pro fails java.lang.NullPointerException

I'm attempting to install the Oracle 11gR2 Client on a windows 7 professional (32 bit) system and the install is failing.
I've downloaded the latest client files from this web link:
    http://www.oracle.com/technology/software/products/database/oracle11g/112010_win32soft.html
I launch the install with a user account that is a member of the local machine administrators.
A command window opens, the text says that the system passed the minimum resolution test and that it's preparing to launch the Oracle Universal Installer.
After about 10 seconds an application error window pops open that says java.lang.NullPointerException with an OK button. Pressing OK ends the install session.
This is a new Dell (E5400) laptop that has never been deployed. It has the latest java version (and updates) installed,
Does anyone have an idea on how I can resolve the install issue?
    Thanks!
    Vince

The folder C:\Program Files\Oracle\Inventory\logs does not exist.
    In fact, there isn't even a C:\Program Files\Oracle folder.
There is a folder in c:\users\uname\AppData\local\Temp\OraTnstall2010-04-29_10-13-44AM
In that folder is a file named installActions2010-04-29_10-13-44AM.log, the contents:

  • Installing Full Retail Win 8 Pro on a Lenovo System supplied with Win 8 Standard/Core

    Hello,
So I have a Thinkpad Twist that came with Windows 8, and I am trying to reinstall Windows 8 Pro on. I have a copy of Win 8 Pro OEM and I don't want to purchase the upgrade since I already have the full version. I would like to put this machine on a domain in my test lab, and only able to do that running Win 8 Pro.
So, I booted off a USB DVD and installed the OS, however once it was installed, I noticed it was still the standard Win 8. So I tried it again, with the same result. When I do the reinstall I am partitioning and formatting both drive on the Twist, so I'm not sure why it's reverting back to standard Win 8. Also when I install Win 8 Pro it never asks me for a key, so something is odd, and it's pulling that old standard Win 8 info from somewhere.
I went into the BIOS and noticed there are some security settings to avoid letting you install a new OS. So I disabled all of those, and tried the install again with the same result. I don't get it.
Does anyone know how to totally clean the disk(s) so that I can just do a clean install of Win 8 Pro? Or what settings I need to change in the BIOS to allow it to let me do a fresh install? I have been working on this for over 8 hours now.. starting to pull my hair out.
Any info would be greatly appreciated.
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

Thanks for the input guys. I ended up finding the solution here..
    http://support.microsoft.com/kb/2796988
I had to do an unattended install which supersedes the product key embedded in the BIOS flash memory.
