Skype Causes Windows to Restart Suddenly

Sometimes when I am using Skype my computer will suddenly restart for no reason. What can I do to fix it? (Using Bootcamp 3.0)

It looks like Fast User Switching is enabled on the OS which seems to be causing your issue. The SSL VPN Client does not support Fast User Switching. Disable this feature

The topic kinda says a lot my N580GTX Twin Frozr II/OC is causing windows to restart. I did not originally have this problem however after a recent reformat I started to have windows crash on the loading screen giving me and error

However, after some testing on my own I discovered it was card and/or driver related to your card/driver. As when I start windows without a video driver ... it is fine every time. Yet once the driver is installed, bang, crash every time. The only time it did not crash was when it was updating windows, pre-SP1 on win7 ultimate. Which is some kind of wierd workaround the crash. Now it seems to be persistent and I do not plan to reinstall windows everyday kinda like I have had too the last couple days. Helps plz !!

Also could it be my Vbios is somehow corrupted or causing this as it always seems to happen when windows is booting up before I have access to my machine right when it would be accessing the vBios?
    Nope

Ok so if anyone ends up having this rediculously confusing problem like I did allow me to say, simply unplug your other monitors from your computer and then run the Nvidia driver software, works every time now. Only 1 monitor can be plugged in at one time while running the driver updates.

  • ITunes causing Windows to restart

I seem to have an issue at the moment with iTunes causing sudden system restarts quite regularly - usually when I am browsing the store. It seems to date back to when they added all the coverflow to each of the categories. It's not related to any recent Itunes update and only iTunes does it; no other program.
    Anyone else getting this?

  • ASA 5550 restart suddenly

    Dear all,
kindly show me what could be the cause of ASA5550 restarted suddenly. and where can I see the logs of it and how to rectify.
    thanks & regards,

If a firewall crashes for some reason, you might be left with few clues other than it reloaded or was left at the monitor prompt. You can configure the firewall to save a crashinfo image of its RAM memory as a file in Flash memory. The image also includes the output of many commands that show the status of the firewall and its resources. A firewall stores only one crashinfo file; subsequent crashes overwrite it. Therefore, only information from the most recent crash is available.
After a crash, you can examine the crashinfo file to determine the cause of the crasheven after a power cycle or reload. This information is useful to the engineers at the Cisco Technical Assistance Center (TAC) as they track down the source of a firewall problem.
By default, crashinfo collection is enabled on cisco ASA's firewall.
    Viewing the Crashinfo Information
    ciscoasa# "show crashinfo"
The show crashinfo command displays all the relevant process and stack trace information that was active during the crash. You should capture all this text output with a terminal emulator so that it can be saved to a file and sent to Cisco TAC. if you upload it i might find out why it creashed. also post the show version as well.

  • Printing duplex with HP Officejet Pro 8600 causes windows 7 OS to shut down/restart

Why when printing duplex with my HP Officejet Pro 8600 printer it causes windows 7( 64-bit) to shut down/restart. Windows message is "Windows has recovered from an unexpected shutdown.  I've ran HP Hardward Diag. Utility and Print and Scan Doctor which indicated everything is working properly with the printer.  Ocassionaly I can print duplex without windows shutting down and restarting, but most of the time it creates issue with Windows causing it to stop and restart.  Single sided printing seems to be fine.  I've already oncehad windows to "Startup Repair" in which ccase I selected restore to a previous working point.  Everything worked for awhile then a duplex printing session starting causing windows to shut down again.   THanks for your assistance.

Yes, the updated USB 3.0 driver corrects the issue and should be installed.

  • IPhone with w/pictures causes windows to crash

I have seen a lot on this topic but nothing seems to work for me.
    IPhone 3G (8 gig)
    Windows 7 OS
    2 gig ram
    IPhone OS 3.1.2
wasn't working then I deleted a zonet webcam and its related apps. I also deleted skype
I was able to start sync w/o crashing again.
I buy a new webcam (MS VX-5000), load it
    load skype
    load windows live messenger
I was then no longer able to sync IPhone as it crashed windows!
    I un-installed everything I loaded
    rebooted mult times
Still, unable to sync my IPhone.
    This is crazy!
    Any ideas?????
    Thanks.
    --One frustrated user

I have the same problem. I connect my iphone to my windows xp work laptop just to charge, not sync (Sync from macbook at home). I have been doing it for a month and no problems.
All of a sudden my computer won't even boot, just BSOD almost immediately, cannot load windows. I didn't think it was the phone but then I was using my coworkers laptop and put my iphone in to charge. When I gave it back to her, the next time she tried to boot she had the same problem as me.
Could the Iphone really cause such a massive failure?
These dells don't even have webcams.
    PLEASE HELP!
    Thanks

  • New 'Modern' Skype in Windows 8 Terrible!

    I hope Microsoft/Skype are listening.
I don't know about all you other forum users, but am I the only person who thinks the new so-called 'modern' Skype in Windows 8 is terrible?
The useability is so unintuative and frustrating. It seems that one can't do anything simply with this 'new' version.
Apart from being big and in your face without the option to minimize, running away in the background, I list the following 'problems'.
    1. Call quality has suffered. I seem to be 'cut-off' from my conversation a lot more frequently than below on the Windows 7 desktop version.
    2. After being cut-off and trying to contact the person with whom I was speaking again, they are inevitabily trying to call me thru' at the same time. This causes great confusion for the 'new# Windows 8 system, which keeps ringing (calling) in the background despite being reconnected!!
    3. You cannot seem to delete conversations, read messages and previous caller records as before.
    4. Adding a contact initially seems impossible! Only after 'faffing-about' for 10 mins did I realise that you search for a new contact via the Windows 8 slide-in right section. However, this does not seem right and hence why not obvious as it just looks like you are doing a search in the desktop/My Computer, despite not actually being in desktop mode.
I am certainlt not one adverse to change and welcome it. However when it comes to computing upgrades, change is support to be 'better', 'more helpful', 'easier', but above all, have continuity. Windows 8 Skype App has none of this.
I think Microsoft need to take a look at redesigning the Skype App for Windows 8 in order to incorporate once more the features that we have all been intuatively used to for so many years before the dawn of Windows 8.

I totally agree.  I just finished using skype on my windows 8 laptop and was very frustrated.  We had a group meeting and when messages were sent and/or documents forwarded, I could not find anyway or instruction that would allow me to share in those presentations.  Even after the group call, when I searched for an answer, I could not get instructions that would work on the screens I was using.  Everything that was presented, did not either work, or I could not find the area to click on to get to where I wanted to go.
Why can't I get the old skype screen back, where when a message came in, it popped up on the bottom and I could open and read, or I could type a message and direct it to whoever I wanted.  All I could do was listen and talk while watching all these huge pics and icons staring back at me.
I don't mind change, as long as you can get the same features you are used to and a way to easily use them.  Bad job Windows and Skype!

  • Windows XP restarts immediately after logging in

So, like the title explains, whenever I log in to windows XP, it immediately restarts. The problem started today when I went onto my Windows partition for the first time in about 5 days. Prior to this, I had installed Leopard back when it was released (I pre-ordered it) and it worked fine. I had run software updates, switched back and forth between mac and windows, and had no problems whatsoever. But today, when I log in to Windows, it immediately shuts down. I had run a software update yesterday, so I am not sure if that had something in it that caused windows to act so randomly. Any advice on how to fix this would be great. I have a MacBook Pro, 2gb RAM, 2Ghz Processor, Windows XP SP2.

I am assuming that Windows restarts as soon as the desktop is about to appear. I am assuming this since I am still not clear at which point Windows begins the reboot process.
Fortuny's response to your original question has one other step that you may or not have completed. That step is where he asks you to boot in safe mode and then:
    1. From the start button choose RUN
    2. You will get an option in a window to enter some text and you would enter MSCONFIG
This will open a window with several tabs and you should choose the tab marked STARTUP ITEMS (I am not sure of the exact name but is close).
In this window you will see a bunch of programs that run immediately at startup and the active programs are marked with a check. If you see a program that shouldn't be there then uncheck it and reboot to see if it made a difference. Careful, just because a program name appears strange to you does not mean that it does not belong there.
Out of my own curiosity I would like you to uncheck the program named KYBRDMGR (not sure of the spelling but close. This program controls the apple keyboard and assigns tasks such as CD EJECT, SOUND VOLUME etc to appropriate keys). Uncheck it and reboot normally to see if it made a difference. Let us know.

  • Got the mic working in Skype w/Windows 7 RC 64 bit on Mac Book Pro

I managed to get the mic working in Skype running Windows 7 RC 64 bit on my Mac Book Pro.
It's a Skype problem. The program automatically selects the DIGITAL input. You need to change it to the RealTex internal microphone.
From Skype, go into Tools -> Options -> Audio Settings and make sure the microphone is selected instead of the digital input.
    Works for me.

You may need to modify the installer script that may block anything beyond certain build; or install drivers individually.
Boot Camp 2.1 is now over a year old. There ARE newer drivers on newer later copies of OS X, both retail (10.5.6) and OEM, and in order to be "compatible" those are still 2.0.xxx versions. People have run into trouble installing their newer BC only to have BC 2.1 corrupt their install.
Snow Leopard includes later drivers and part of BC 3.0.
I bought Leopard (10.5.0) before I needed or wanted really to - I felt it would need six months to work out the kinks, but I also wanted 'new' Boot Camp, too. Well, it had 2.0 all right, but same drivers as Boot Camp 1.4 beta from Sept '07 and earlier.
Windows 7 is pretty good about finding what is missing or needed, but there are some motherboard specific drivers it may not provide. Some news sites have said that later builds than 7100 have support for Nvidia logicboards and others that were missing or problematic... but I'd hold off and avoid leaked builds.
If you can tolerate or live with limited functionality or source drivers and patch things, even the Apple installer and drivers, you may be okay.
I'm impressed, Windows installer, update, ability to rollback, check points, and how well it runs. Much more reliable and stable and problem free. One thing I would do is make sure you have enough room, and allow 20GB / 24% free space just so you have a couple restore check points in case you need to. It is all too easy to use 10-15GB for those and come in handy.
Any vendor that writes API and drivers has found they have their work cut out, and that of course includes Kaspersky and others.
The first and only time I attempted to install Apple Setup Windows put up an alert "Known Incompatible" known to cause stability issues or something. And I was and generally do use the Windows 7 Compatibility Mode for installing drivers (control click).

  • Skype Causes Certain Games to Crash

The past few months, I have been pulling my hair out as to why some of my games have been experiencing Timeout Detection and Recovery issues related to my graphics drivers. I've done a lot of research into this Windows failsafe and I used a couple of tools to see what was going on.
During this period, I was running Windows 7 x64 Ultimate.
Each time, the crash occurred on the display driver itself (I changed Windows TDR registy keys to bluescreen on each occurrence).
At first, I thought it was my graphics card (XFX Radeon HD7970) failing. I had noticed graphical artifacts during gameplay and horizontal lines flickering on my desktop during boot-up and shut down. I sent it out for warranty and the technicians concluded nothing was wrong with it and sent it back to me. In the meantime, I borrowed a friend's spare GTX 560. I performed a complete driver clean-up to remove my old ATI drivers and installed the proper nVidia drivers for the card.
Again, system crash on the display driver (this time, the nVidia one).
Today, I performed a fresh installation of Windows 8 Pro. As I was installing my apps again, everything was fine until I installed the desktop version of Skype. As soon as I log into Skype, I get horizontal lines that briefly flicker accross my screen. This happens EVERY time, without exception. Afterwards, Skype itself runs perfectly. I have zero issues with Skype once it's up and running.
However, after seeing this flickering occur, I decided to try something. I quit Skype and loaded up a game that was prone to TDR errors before (Metro 2033). I cranked its settings to the max and played for about 1.5hrs before quitting the game. I then loaded up Skype, and started the game again. Within 10 minutes, I got my first TDR. Tried it again. This time 5 minutes. Quit Skype once again, and played for another 2 hours without incident.
This test worked across 5 different games that were known to crash before on my Windows 7 install. After discovering the horizontal line flickers upon booting up Skype on Windows 8, I've since tried all these games with Skype turned off and nary a problem.
I looked around for issues related to mine, but all I could find were 4 year old posts about people experiencing lag issues in online gaming caused by Skype, or other graphical issues to do with Skype itself. As I experienced, it's far too easy to suspect a hardware or driver issue that's causing game crashes, so I wonder if others are having issues with their games crashing and thinking it's their hardware/drivers.
The one thing I haven't tried yet is installing an older version of Skype to see if the issue persists. I will try that out tomorrow.
Wondering if anyone else has been experiencing these issues, and if the Skype PR have anything to comment on it. I should note that all my games ran perfectly until roughly a month or two ago, probably after Skype was updated.
    System Specs:
    AMD FX-8150 CPU
    Gigabyte GA-990XA-UD3 motherboard
    8GB DDR3 1866MHz RAM
Windows 8.1 Pro on a Samsung 250GB SSD
    XFX Radeon HD 7970 graphics
Latest drivers, fresh install, etc etc.

Contact Lacie since it's their product you are having issues with.

  • Skype Causing PCI Compliance Failure

    Hi,
As part of my business, I have to undergo PCI Data compliance scans every 3 months. Everything has been okay, but I recently failed a scan, and received this message:
Description: Skype for Windows < 5.8.0.154 Unspecified Vulnerability (uncredentialed check) Synopsis: The remote Skype install has an unspecified vulnerability. Impact: According to its timestamp, the version of Skype installed on the remote Windows host reportedly has an as-yet unspecified vulnerability.
The suggested "Resolution" is to 'Upgrade to Skype for Windows 5.8.0.154 or later.'
I am running Wndows on VMWare Fusion on my Mac. Initially, I deleted Skype altogether from Windows and updated Skype on my MAC OS X, and still received the same message So I reinstalled the latest version of Skype for Windows, and STILL received a fail on the scan.
Is there some way to fix this? It looks like resolving this issue will fix up all the problems I've been having. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Hi there ... your post was a long time ago, but wondered if you managed to solve the problem of Skype clients causing PCI compliance to fail?  We are going through the same issues at the moment, all Skype clients updated, yet we are still failing every test.  If you managed to find a fix, would be great to know!  Cheers.

I use SKype everyday for work and this new layout makes it very hard to foolow long conversations.
Please add an option to get the previous version back.
